Output iTunes Video via Firewire

Anyone know if it's possible to output video via firewire from iTunes? I have some music videos in my library, and I'd like to route them through my DV deck to my television for viewing in another room.
Is there any way to accomplish this?

I'm aware only of this solution:
CTRL-Click on the file you want to put on firewire: "Show Song File"
A Finder Window will pop up.
Drag that video clip onto an application that can export via FW like iMovie HD

  • Simultaneous import of video via firewire and audio via in-line audio port

I have a converter that takes the S-video and audio input from my DVR then converts both to DV format, and then outputs via firewire. I hook the firewire up to my G5, open iMovieHD, and the application recognizes that as a camera and imports wonderfully.
Well, the audio comes through with a MAJOR buzz or hum. It's probably the converter, but the buzz/hum is not enjoyable.
So, I removed the audio from the converter, and the video converts wonderfully in iMovie without the audio. I have the audio coming in through my audio line-in.
I start to import my video, and iMovie starts recording the video. But I want to record the line-in audio at the same time. But when I switch to audio to turn on the input from the line-in, the video stops capturing.
When I start to capture audio first, then switch to capture video, then the audio stops capturing.
Is there any way that I can capture the video via firewire for one "track", and my line-in audio for the other "track", and have them play simultaneously in iMovie during capture??
Any help would be appreciated. thanks Adam

    hey there badkitty 42,
i don't think you can do that. it sounds like your issue is electrical. try turning the plug around on each piece of gear in the chain & listen for the buzz. if it's not heard you've found the cause of your ground loop. you can also pick up some of the 3-prong orange or grey electrical adapters from Lowe's or Home Depot to see if you can "lift the ground" to get rid of the buzz. i'd try one on the convertor 1st. one last thing, do you have any flourescent lights in use on the same circuit or in proximity to where you're doing your transcoding? these are notorious for inducing 60Hz hum in audio & video gear.
    good luck.

  • Having trouble outputing to tape via firewire

I'm trying to output to tape via firewire. However I'm only recording audio and not video. Device control preset is Firewire NTSC. Video playback preset is Apple Firewire NTSC (720 x 480)
    Any suggestion?

Make sure the your Video out is set to ALL FRAMES along with the firewire.
I've no experience with the deck so can't offer any help with it's settings.
As a trouble shooting measure, does the video show up if you use another DV/Analog converter (then on to a TV monitor to visually verify)?

    tyler57,
it would be better to direct that question to Gary Loftis, since my MacBook Pro doesn’t have a Thunderbolt port.

  • Problems Capturing Video via FireWire

I have had problems capturing video via firewire on my MacBook Pro. It is an early 2008 model. I have tried capturing video using multiple programs, cables and cameras. In both Final Cut Express and iMovie ('08 and '09) I loose the connection mysteriously. It just stops sensing my camera mid capture. I can shut the computer down, programs down and cameras down but nothing seems to work consistently in getting it to work. The weird part is that it does work some times. Recently I tried an auto capture of a whole miniDV tape through a sony handicam via iMovie '09. It got 20mins of the tape then stopped and rewound the tape. When trying it again it read "connection error". I could not get it to work. I put the computer to sleep and came back later. It worked but only captured about 10 minutes then shut down the whole camera and import completely. I switched to manual import and it will now only let me capture about 20 seconds at a time. What is going on? To me it seems like the port itself is malfunctioning and disconnecting the signal randomly. Has anyone else experienced this? What is the cause and what can I do about it?

I've been reading the forums and it seems that there is an issue with the Firewire port in general. I have an external firewire 800 HD and when copying large files or a large number of files the HD gets dismounted unexpectedly. Your case seems similar in that we are both transferring large files via Firewire. Anyone have any fixes for this?

  • How do I output Audio through computer speakers while outputting video via Firewire to TV

I'm outputting the video and audio streams via a FireWire connected Camcorder to a TV display (used as a third display), but I want the audio to output through the computer speakers and not through the Camcorder speakers as is happening.  If I disconnect the Camcorder, the audio outputs through the computer speakers normally.  This must be an audio out setting issue but I can't remember which settings to adjust.  I used to do this in an earlier version of PRE but I've forgotten the settings.  I'm using PRE 9.0.  If someone can understand what I'm trying to say, I hope that person can help me.  Thanks.

Good thought.  I was thinking the same way, and I tried  adjusting every
setting that's there but without any luck. It must be  a setting within PRE
that would allow the video output stream to be split from  the audio output
stream but I just can't find the setting.  As I mentioned  in the posting, I
used to do this in an earlier version of PRE.

    Interesting question.
Not sure that the answer will be  there, but I would go to Edit
Preferences>Audio Hardware, and look very  closely at the settings there.
Good luck, and hope that it's just  the matter of a  setting?

  • Output video via firewire/ilink?

I just got a new Sony TV and of course it features their "ilink" aka a firewire 400 6pin input and I was wondering if there is anyway to have my powerbook output audio and video via its firewire port because it would be slightly better quality then S-video out, at least I presume it would be...

Oh, I see, just to use the computer itself. I guess you could try, but now I think that jack on the TV is probably for playing video back directly from a FireWire video camera, of which Sony sells plenty.
S-video is just a bit above NTSC video. It is not high-resolution by today's standards. You can probably do better than S-Video, check the other ports on the TV.
A VGA port will provide much more resolution than S-Video. It might be labeled RGB. VGA is what we used to use to plug in an analog CRT computer monitor. You can send VGA video from your PowerBook with an adapter that probably came in the box. Get a VGA cable and connect the adapter to it.
A DVI port, if your TV has it, will give you the best and sharpest image of all. Some high-end TVs have DVI input. DVI is the all-digital standard currently used to drive the high-resolution LCD computer monitors sold by Apple and others. You have a DVI port on the side of your PowerBook; you just need to buy a cable.

  • Can't transfer video via firewire

I'm trying to import video onto my desktop via firewire and have tried several cables to no avail. I don't even see the connection on my desktop. Does anyone have any suggestions?

You don't say from what you are trying to import the video, the software, etc. Since this is likely to be a third party device like a video camera it would also make sense to see what the manufacturer's technical assistance has to say.

  • Import video via firewire not allowed by Face Time

I am trying to import video to my harddrive via firewire. Every time I open iMovie and click on the video camera icon the only device seen is the Face Time camera. There's a little drop down window but it only has Face Time as the option not my Sony DCR VX1000 video camera which is turned on to VCR mode to allow exporting of video content. Is there some way to get my camera recognized by the macbook or at least to disable Fact Time?

You might contact Sony for some technical assistance.  In the past they have not been Mac friendly.
    Ciao.

  • How do I get video via firewire to an external device?

I want to see video projects for client preview on an LCD TV feeding it NTSC analog video. I am using a Panasonic MiniDV recorder with a DV (firewire) input/output connected to the firewire connector on the back of my G5. At this point I'm using imovie09 software. I intend to upgrade to Final Cut, but for now need this video output. Any ideas, am I missing something?
    Thanks.

Is your mini DVD recorder mentioned also have video/audio out jacks in the rear of unit? If so, try in iMovie under preferences "Export to Camera" this way when you play iMovie it outputs into the firewire of the DV recorder and eventually gets analogued to those RCA outputs and to the monitor. Also check the DV recorder input settings (check with the instruction Manual). If that does not work, tru the same thing but using any mini DV camera that has firewire connections and the analog A/V out. Put the camera on Record mode for this, you will not need to have a tape in it.

  • Video via Firewire

Does anyone know if apple has crippled bootcamp regarding video output over firewire ??
It seems no matter what we try , we cant get bootcamp to recognise any Firewire video device.
Basically we have clients that have requested a Windows based Protools System (typical IT dept), Outputting video with an Avid Mojo , and of course we would rather sell them a Mac , rather than any other PC Manufacturer... At least , Just maybe , They will start to boot into OSX and understand why the mac platform is so good.
Yes... We have all the SP2 updates and have also tried a canopus ADV110,,, It just doesent see the devices , however firewire drives are fine.
I'm hoping we get an answer for this issue as it means we can sell alot more macs into PC ingrained companies.

I'm having a similar problem with firewire audio interfaces. Firewire hard drives work OK with Windows XP under Boot Camp but the audio interfaces aren't even recognized. This is happening with interfaces made by PreSonus and RME.
The same interfaces work just fine with OS X (Leopard on the Mac Book Pro and Tiger on the Mac Pro). Those same interfaces also work fine on non-Apple XP systems.
I would love to solve this problem. That would allow us to go with Mac computers exclusively and use Boot Camp and XP for those few (very few) applications that will not run on OS X.
I'm also using the latest version of XP with all the updates. I have tried disabling the ISight camera and Bluetooth with no success. USB audio interfaces (Sound Devices USB Pre) work fine under OS X and XP.

  • Capturing video via Firewire does not work on CS6

    I recently installed 64 bits Windows 7.
The capture function in Premiere CS6 does not work with my panasonic camcorder NV-GS500
Windows recognizes the camcorder, but I cannot do anything with it in the Capture window.
This not an Premiere-specific problem , because also wit Nero I have the same problem.
I expect that the Windows7 driver for my camera needs to be upodated, but Panasonic cannot help me.
Is there anybody out in the Premiere community who knows a solution?

Windows 7 Changed the standard 1394 driver from XP which allows Win 7 to Throttle bandwidth on Firewire devices. This is why Ann mentioned the legacy driver which is basically the old XP driver. The bandwidth throttling causes allot of issues with certain cameras during the Handshake process which is why you often have deck control but no preview or primary video stream. If you follow the instructions in the link above or the paste below to set the Legacy driver for the 1394 controller , that will often resolve these issues. However some firmware on different manufacturers Firewire controllers include these C-State Bandwidth throttling sets so it still may not work. In that case you want to get a Firewire card with a TI chipset. The firmware on TI chips are clean and dont include the C-State changes.
Solution 6: Use the Legacy FireWire driver (Windows 7 x64)
Click the Windows Start button; type "device manager" into the Search box and select Device Manager
Swivel open the "IEEE 1394 Bus host controllers" item
Right-click on your listed 1394 controller; select "Update Driver Software"
Click the "Browse my computer for driver software" button, followed by the "Let me pick from a list" button
Select the option that has "(Legacy)" at the end of the name; click Next and let Windows install the driver
Make sure you restart the system after you make the change to legacy. Also do not have the Firewire device plugged in when changing the driver to Legacy.
Close out of dialogs and retry capture'

  • Get still image, but no motion video via firewire. Help!

This is really kicking me in the behind. I'm trying to do a print to tape, but before I get to that stage I have this problem where I can see my timeline video play fine in the canvas and I can see the still frame that I'm sitting on on the NTSC monitor, but that's all. If I try and play the video all I see on the NTSC is the still of the last frame. That is, until I stop the playback & then I see the frame I'm now on. So I have the data flowing from FCP 4.5 to my Sony DSR-20 and then to my monitor, just no motion video! I've gone over Shane's list of quick answers & I can't find anything wrong. What am I missing? I'm running 10.3.9 and QT 7 (not 7 pro).

Well guys, thanks for the suggestions but I am in all
frames, I have image selected as well as RGB. Any
    other thoughts?
Forgive me for what may be a silly question: are you sure there is no codec incompatibility between your sequence and your device?
I ask because the only time I've gotten this issue is when I was working with 8-Bit Uncompressed (aka BetaSP footage) but still had my external monitoring pointing to my DV Deck. Just as in your case, I wouldn't get motion, but whenever I paused, I'd get that frame (externally).
Of course, you could have stumbled upon a whole new can of worms.

  • Recording Video via firewire + camera

I do not get the same options in my menu as my mac. It does not offer video recording even if I plug a camera that is recognized by windows. I read everything carefully and I did not see this apparent difference so I must be doing something wrong here.
Does QT Pro for windows offer the same features as QT pro for OSX?

    Welcome to the discussions, Jerry.
The Windows version of QuickTime Pro doesn't offer video recording.

  • Free/cheap utilities to send video via firewire to a DV deck/camera?

I know FCPX won't do this - but I need it, hence the search for a workaround. I wondered about iMovie, but version 11 seems to convert all DV material to progressive and I would like to keep it interlaced. I just need to be able to get a cut story back onto tape now and then.

I may have a workaround Mark if you email me (click on my name in the forum).
