Output Module - Video for Windows - trouble selecting Audio Format

Good day, people.
Need help setting up AE to output .AVI with customized audio format, in my case it should be .mp3, but I would accept anything but the default uncompressed audio. (audio Output Format button is disabled when Video for Windows is selected)
Of course I can output as-is and use external tools to repack audio data, but it seems awkward. If AE can output MP3-only audio, why wouldn't it output AVI with MP3. Probably I just don't know the right set of options, but I googled to find the answer for over a month with no success.
Any hints would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Because it's a hack?! Even Microsoft does not officially support or endorse such combinations, it just has become common place when DivX and others introduced it, which is a whole different matter. If you get my meaning: On one end there are specs and standards, on the other end programmers that tend to get creative in the wrong ways. Anyway, the behavior you are seeing is correct. AE only supports uncompressed audio for AVI.

  • Setting format and format options in Output module settings for render queue item

    Hello,
I am unable to set the "Format" and "Format options" for video in output module settings programatically using After effects apis.
I referred the after effects cs3 sdk guide for the apis.
I find apis for all other options in the "outputmodule settings " like :
    AEGP_SetEmbedOptions
    AEGP_SetOutputChannels
    AEGP_SetStretchInfo
    AEGP_SetSoundFormatInfo
But there is no api listed for setting the options available in the "Format" tab and "Format options" tab.
The "Format" tab and "Format options" tab is available in the dialog that opens when user clicks on the Output module settings for the render queue item.
The format tab when clicked shows a drop down list with aff different formats. By default "Video for Windows" is set.
The drop down list contains following format options
    Adobe Clip Notes
    Adobe Flash video
    Quicktime movie
    Video for Windows
I need to be able to set the "Quicktime movie" option in the Format tab programmatically and then set the compression type as "Animation" in the compression settings programatically using the api functions available in AE CS3 SDK
Please suggest the suitable api to do so.
I need to write my own plugin to export to Quicktime movie using the after effects apis.
I follow below steps to do so.
    1. AEGP_InsertMenuCommand and add export option to AE with my own plugin name
    2. In the command hook, select active item using AEGP_GetActiveItem
    3. Add it to render queue
    4. Set the output module settings for 0 th output module using
    suites.OutputModuleSuite1()
    5. Use different functions from suites.OutputModuleSuite1() to set the output module settings like EmbedOptions,StrechInfo etc.
    6. Till this step, I am doing it right. But I am not able to find any api for setting Format options using suites.OutputModuleSuite1()
I also checked all other suites available for setting FormatOptions but no luck.
    Please help.
    Thanks,
    -Namita

    Hi Namita,
I am experiencing the same problem.
I am using AE CC SDK, and I am unable to change the outputmodule format to any of the other movie format types (mov, mpg, flv, etc.).
It is always set to "avi"
I even compiled and ran the Queuebert example in the SDK, and there I get the same problem: the path extension is always left on ".avi"
Does anyone know how to change this?

  • Export to anything, but Video for Windows causes crash in CS4

I am running the latest update to CS4 on my PC, and while I have had no luck exporting my timeline full of MPEG-4 material to QT, H.264, etc...using the render que, I am having success choosing the Video for Windows 8-bit 4:2:2 codec.  I am running the latest drivers for QT and whatnot so why does anyone think this would be?  It also causes a crash using the Export function in the File tab.  Thanks for your help!

Here is an update to my last post.  Anyone want to chime in on what could be causing this issue while exporting to an .avi? Thanks for the help!

  • Output Module Settings for QT?

I am trying to set the output module in AE CS3 for HD in Quicktime but cannot find any combination of settings to make the final movie come out as HD.  Details, original footage *.m2t (1440 X 1080 p30).  The render seetings are Best Settings using the defaults.  In the output module, I select format as QT Movie, video output as default which is compression DV/DVCPRO-NTSC, progressive, 16:9.  I get the same results if stretch is checked off or on.  If off, it comes up 1440 X 1080 custom, lock aspect ratio to 4:3.  If on, I have tried HDV 1080 29.97 which changes nothing, and HDTV 1080 29.97.  I note that the later does change the module to 1920 X 1080 lock aspect ratio to 16:9.  IN EVERY CASE, the QT movie comes out as a 4:3.  When played in the QT Pro player is it 4:3. When reinput to AE it is 4:3.  When a single frame is saved and opened in photoshop, the canvas size is 16:9 but only partially filled with a 4:3 image (i.e., it has  white columns on the sides).  So is there anyway (or set of settings) that will give me a genuine, 16 X 9 movie that I can use in QT.  I note that I have no trouble getting exactly the right output when I set it for *.avi.  Help...Thanks, dale

Thanks Rick, I understand your ideas.  My ultimate goal is personal
entertainment using BD disks and my HD TV.  Eventually, possibly entering
amateur contests such as sponsored by Videomaker Mag or Muvipix.com.  The
reason I'm pursuing QT is simply there is no better way to learn than to
work a problem until it is solved.  I am using AE CS3 to implement visual
effects vignettes which is where my real interest lies.  To get to BD, I use
Adobe PE4 as my NLE which is more than adequate.  In so far as I know, AE
and PE work equally well with avi as with QT so I'm OK.  On the other hand,
I also use PS CS2 which is married with Image Ready which seems to prefer
QT.  PS is great to roto with it's many tools.  I realize the new PS has
incorporated the Image Ready functionality and Image Ready is no longer
supported.  Nonetheless, It's what I will have for the foreseeable future.
If worse comes to worse, I can always use AE (or PE) to output a sequence of
stills that can be imported into Image Ready and then shifted to PS for
work.  If I had QT available, QT Pro outputs image sequences more quickly.
Image Ready, however, only outputs QT as footage.  Dale

  • Output 24pn video for television?

Here is the situation. I’m working on a video which I shot 720p 24pn on my HVX200. I need to output the video onto tape to play on local TV channels (so I'm assuming i need to make the tape NTSC 29.97 interlaced, 720x480)
I’m using fcp 5.1.4. My sequence is set to 'DVCPRO HD 720p60' with the frames per second set to 23.97.
*This is my question- What is the best workflow step by step going from the 720p24pn timeline to a NTSC tape?*
Can FCP add the pulldown to the 720p 24pn footage? Id so how do I do that? If not, do I need to use an external plugin like Graeme Nattress GAddPulldownDown to do the pulldown and then convert the frame size with compressor? Any other suggestions? Then do I bring that converted video file back into a FCP DV NTSC timeline and print to tape?
I am not familiar with handling progressive footage and 24fps footage so any advice is much appreciated- I just want to make sure I do it right and it looks the best it can.
    Thanks

Where in Montana? I lived half my life in Missoula, and went to college in Bozeman.
You gotta talk to the channel as to what they will take. SD 29.97 NTSC doesn't say much at all. BetaSP, Digibeta, DV, DVCPRO 50, 3/4" Umatic, MII (they had MII at the PBS station in Bozeman...ugh). Don't figure on anything...ask them. Just because it is Montana doesn't mean it is completely backwards. I have no doubt they have beta and digibeta tapes. But, being as low cost as the TV stations must be, I'll wager that DV and DVCAM are more the norm.
If you have a DVCPRO HD deck and you are ouputting DVCPRO HD, ONLY THOSE DECKS will remove the pulldown. And an HVX-200 isn't a DVCPRO HD tape mechanism, that is DV. You cannot downconvert from DVCPRO HD to DV via firewire, much less remove the pulldown, and just dropping a DVCPRO HD 23.98 clip into a DV timeline and rendering won't do it either. FCP is horrid at removing the pulldown. Find a deck and export, or export a self contained file and take it to someone with a Kona or Decklink card.
Man, the faculty at MSU have approached me with the idea of teaching as an adjunct for a year. That is heavy on my mind...

  • How do I get Quicktime Pro for Windows to save audio files?

No matter what I do QTP for Windows only saves .mov files. I am trying to create a new audio recording but the only file type I can save is movies. I bought this product specifically to try and migrate old cassette music to itunes. Any clues as to how I should go about it?

Have you tried Audio Capture software? This is dead easy on a Mac, plug it in and use something like SoundFlower (free) or Audio Hijack Pro to grab the sound.
If you have registered QT Pro you should get:
Menu > File > Export (Options): a wide range of formats
May I ask why you are doing this? Unless the tape version is unique, you should avoid recording from old tape as it is the worst of all worlds. The quality is bad and changing it to digital is not going to make it better even with a lot of editing.
Just bite the bullet and get CDs (which you can easily save to digital from iTunes) or buy the digital version directly. That way is much less painful and you have something you may actually want to listen to.

    Julia,
You need to format the iPod for Windows use.
Download the iPod Updater, install this to your computer, restart the computer, run the Updater, then connect your iPod when prompted, then follow the set up procedure.

You are going to need to have two versions of the video file. One for Mac Quicktime users and one for WIndows Media Player users.
WMV Studio Pro looks like it could meet your needs.

However you will need a Windows Media Server to stream the WMV file otherwise it will act as a download only.

  • How do I reformat an IPod Touch for Windows that has been formatted for a Mac?  All instructions I have been able to find use ITunes or Device Manager to reformat.  My IPod is not being recognized by ITunes or in Device Manager.

I have an IPod Touch that has been formatted for a Mac.  All instructions I have been able to find use ITunes or Device Manager to reformat the device for Windows.  This cannot be done if Windows doesn't recognize the device.  Is there another way to set the device back to the factory settings directly on the device without using ITunes?

Ipod touch is not formatted one way or the other at all.
Just sync it to the new computer using itunes.

  • Reformat 60g ipod video for windows

I would like to reformat a recently purchased ipod already mac formatted (and loaded with files) to windows. The idea would be to use the ipod and itunes with both pc and mac.
I haven't purchased any songs from itunes and plan to use my existing music as mp3s rather than m4p or m4a on the ipod.
I have an external hard drive (formatted fat32) which can be used to back up music/video files which reside on the mac computer (and are also present on the ipod), transfer them over to the pc, then back onto the ipod again after formatting.
I've read that apple does not officially support a windows formatted ipod to be used on a mac. I've also read that using an ipod formatted fat32 on a mac slows down read/write in itunes, etc, but not sure if that also applies to the latest ipod video units.
Can someone verify this? I would like to be able to use the ipod on both platforms.
Can I just format the ipod with windows into fat32, or do I have to use the apple software to do this?
Would using the ipod like this be more trouble than it is worth?
    dell   Windows XP

    Thank you Niel.
I have an old winme computer that I've been using to format my external hard drives to FAT32 and have had success for 200g and 300gb drives which xp and mac then recognize, but there probably is some advantage in using Apple's refomating software for the ipod, so I will use that.
The ipod will be used on both xp and mac. I came across a post regarding using one of the older ipods formated in FAT32 and how that file system slowed certain functions with the mac as opposed to HFS formatted ipod and was wondering if anybody has experienced this with the ipod video.
When using ipod with both xp and mac, are there any other issues to be concerned with, like syncing with itunes, etc?

  • No Audio Output Device is installed Windows 8 - no audio device detected in Device Manager

OS: Previously using Windows 8.1, now rolled back to Windows 8.
    HP Pavilion p7-1423w
    Product Number: H3Z92AA#ABA
This just seemed to happen on its own follwing a standard Microsoft Windows update. Suddenly, there is a red X on the speaker displayed down in the taskbar area, with the message: No Audio Output Device is installed. This originally happened using Windows 8.1. I tried numerous suggestions and nothing seemed to relate to my problem. Checking the Device Manager is Windows is useless, because no audio device is even detected. Drivers cannot be updated when no device is recognized as existing. I checked in the computer setup prior to booting to Windows and I cannot find anywhere to turn audio on. I thought that possibly audio had been disabled, at the source. Either that or the onboard audio on the motherboard has completely failed.
Hoping that a reset to factory settings would help, I backed up all of my data and proceeded with the reset. Now back to Windows 8, the same issue exists with the original factory settings. No audio output device detected.
Can onboard audio be enabled somewhere in the setup? OR is my motherboard's onboard audio fried?

Only option that I see in the BIOS is under Security.  Audio Device: Hidden or Available. It was set to available and I left it at that. Still no audio.
Really? Nothing? This computer is one year old. Absolutely no reason for this to be happening. What a joke.

  • HD video for windows 7

    Hello,
I downloaded iTunes latest version onto my PC-Windows 7. I bought an HD episode, and it is not playing back correctly. Sound is warped, and video playback is off course with audio. Any suggestions, please? Also, I would like to write an email to Apple in general about other things. When I looked up who to properly contact, I did not see an email address for general inquiries/complaints/comments, etc. Maybe you know? Thank you for your help!

Does your system meet the minimum requirements for playing HD video?
To play HD video, an iTunes LP, or iTunes Extras, a 2.0GHz Intel Core 2 Duo or faster processor, 1GB of RAM, and an Intel GMA X3000, ATI Radeon X1300, or NVIDIA GeForce 6150 or better is required
I would like to write an email to Apple in general about other things. When I looked up who to properly contact, I did not see an email address for general inquiries/complaints/comments, etc.
Apple does not provide technical nor customer support via email. If you have an issue you wish to discuss with them, you need to call them. If you just want to comment and don't need a reply, use the feedback pages:

  • No video for windows 10 upgrade

Okay guys I am having the worst time trying to figure out how to solve this. I have recently upgraded to windows 10 and now skype doesn't seem to want to work anymore. Whenever I try skyping someone my video doesn't show up. It only shows that it's loading, but it never loads. The receiving video works as well as the audio. It's just my own video that doesn't want to work. I recently thought it was a problem I had with Microsoft store because skype didn't seem to want to update, but I finally got it to update, but it still did not solve the problem. Does ANYONE think they know what is causing this? I feel like it's just skype itself because windows 10 is still new, but I'm a pretty impatient person and would like this solved as soon as possible. Thanks to anyone in advance if they know the problem or may think so!

Make sure your hardware and drivers are compatible with Windows 10. Your video driver is most likely the issue. Video drivers in Windows 10 is a known issue and will most likely need an update. Download the latest Skype version; http://www.skype.com/go/getskype , download a current windows 10 compatible driver, remove the old video drivers,  reinstall video drivers and Skype if you do not have the lastes version allready (7.7.x.x help > about Skype). If you still have issues, please let us know if you did a clean install (upgrade > refresh system), or is on a upgraded system containing old files/drivers etc. Be adviced that you cannot install a clean windows install without having a key ( before an upgrade is done ), so if you did not refresh or posses a Win 10 key for clean install, your just upgraded.
