Output Monitor

Hi Gang, I am having Puget Systems build a new video editing workstation. (praise jeebus) (3.2 i7 Six core; 32 gigs RAM; 2 gigs GPU; solid state C drive...etc.) I have already purchased (and am using on with my current box) an Asus PB278Q 27" computer monitor. What should I get for an output monitor? How about a decent consumer grade HDTV and a matrox mxo2 mini? I am pretty much tapped out; don't want to spend a whole lot more. Also, I should add that I am red/green color blind so there ain't going to be any color grading on the machine...at least not from me. ("Green?!!! Looks like yellow to me.")
What say the mighty intellects of the group?
Thanks very much, folks.

right click on ur desktop>properties>settings>advanced>Nview tab> then click clone>apply and ur set :D

  • No images from timeline on output monitor?

After installation CC: “Premiere Pro, Audition, After Effects and Photoshop”, when I play from the timeline in Adobe Encore CS6, the output monitor gives only sound no images?
We have already install the newest drivers from Matrox.
Please tell me what to do?
    Best regards,
    Koos Wolf

Presumably by "Output monitor" you mean a monitor attached to the Matrox device - which I assume is an MXO2?
If so you will need to set Encore, as well as Premiere, to output the timeline through the MXO2.
In Encore go to the Edit menu, Select Preferences, then the Audio/video Out tab.  Go to the Video Out section of the panel, and select Matrox Player from the drop down list.
Now click on Set Up, and adjust the settings in the dialogue box to suit your format.

  • 27" iMac, HDMI/DisplayPort adaptor, LCD TV as an output monitor

I'd like to know few things before I dive into the world of FCP/FCE.
Is it possible to set your Samsung 52" Hi-def LCD TV to act as your output monitor (or secondary screen however you call it) from the DisplayPort on the 27" iMac? If so, how do you set it up?
Basically I'd like to view what I'm working on the FCP out to the 52" TV as if I'm watching the HD cable TV.
I already bought the HDMI/DisplayPort adaptor (1080p) made by Kanex. It's also designed to carry digital audio through the USB.
I did manage to duplicate the Mac's desktop on the TV but the image quality wasn't what I'd expect from the 1080p HD. I am using the hackable Panasonic GH1 camera.
Anyway I did try to set it up for the iMovie but couldn't.
I went to a few Apple Stores nearby but no one could answer my question.
    I'd appreciate your expertise.
    Thanks.

The display port sends out a COMPUTER signal. Even if you convert it to HDMI, it is still a computer signal, and not a VIDEO signal. Different characteristics. And the computer image isn't the proper gamma, it doesn't show interlacing properly among other things.
For proper video monitoring, like you'd see it on your TV from the cable service, you need an HD Input/Output device, like Matrox, AJA, Decklink, MOTU. Unfortunately with an iMac, your choices are VERY limited, if they work at all. The MOTU V4HD is your only option, as it uses a firewire interface, and doesn't take over the FW bus (Unlike the AJA IO HD).
What you have might be fine just to see things bigger, but not good for any critical judging of your image.

  • Canvas Remains Still While Output Monitor is Fine

Recently the Mac Pro station I work on was upgraded from FCP 6.x to 7.03. Noting that everything worked fine prior to the upgrade and everything works fine after the upgrade except this new problem:
When scrubbing the timeline audio and video playback fine on both the external monitor and the FCP canvas window. When I playback the timeline the output monitor works fine but the canvas window remains frozen on the first frame where the playhead was. As soon as you stop playback the canvas will update to the current and correct frame but it remains still or frozen during all playback except scrubbing.
    Thanks for any suggestions.

Oops, sorry, wrong answer - let me try again:
Go to the menu Final Cut Pro > Audio Video Settings and click on the A/V devices Tab. Make sure "Mirror on Desktop" is selected:

  • Output monitor not playing in realtime

I cannot get my output monitor to play in realtime. I have sound playing in realtime out of monitor but fotage only appears on screen when clip is stoped in the timeline of fcp

    #8 External Monitor Viewing.
    Shane's Stock Answer #8:
A simple path is mac > firewire > camera or deck > rca cables > tv
Then start up your camera and tv, then open fcp.
Then go View > External video > all frames
Video playback should be Apple firewire NTSC (If you are using an NTSC set)
Audio playback should be Audio follows Video
Techinially, this should send synched video to your TV
If for some reason you can't view your timeline on your external monitor, there are a few things to try:
    1) Make sure that the camera/deck is connected and powered on BEFORE you open FCP.
    2) In the Final Cut Pro menu select AUDIO/VIDEO Preferences and make sure your signal is being sent out thru Firewire DV.
    3) Go to the menu and select VIEW>EXTERNAL>ALL FRAMES.
    4) Click in the % box above the image and select FIT TO WINDOW.
    5) Go to VIEW->refresh A/V devices
    6) Make sure the Log & Capture window is closed
If you want it to play in both the canvas and the external monitor you need to go to the FINAL CUT PRO menu and select AUDIO/VIDIO settings and make sure MIRROR ON DESKTOP is selected under the PLAYBACK OUTPUT section

  • Live Type graphics interfering with audio on playback to output monitor

New to Mac, so bare with me.
When I drop live type graphics in timeline and play with the built in audio, plays fine. When I output it to mini dv to record via firewire, and hit play the audio is fine till the timeline marker goes past the end of the graphic, then the audio drops out for a few seconds, then its o.k. again. This happens on every graphic, no exceptions. Now the audio is coming through the NTSC speakers.
Funny thing though, we I play back the recorded tape, the audio plays fine.
The audio also plays fine on the built in speakers. Onlu when outputted to firewire to the mini dv.
    This is very annoying.
    Can someone help please?
Using a LaCie 500 gig firewire drive, via the 800 firewire port.
    Thanks

Not to be ignorant ha ha.
How do I mix down the audio? Do you think that if I hit play on the timeline and then hit record on dv, that might work?
Will give that a shot though!
    Thanks,Jerry

  • Output monitoring problem

    Hello All,
My problem is that my sequence plays perfectly in FCP. However, when I either want to check it on an external monitor, or, I try to print to tape - I get audio but no video, even stranger, when I hit the space bar, the picture comes up displaying the position the cursor has mover to. To make matters worst, I have other sequences in different project on the same external drive, and they work fine. My record deck is a Sony HDV, connected via firewire 800
    Any ideas?

The original footage was recorded in Digital Betacam, Captured in another system, then exported to my External drive as a .mov file. I do suspect that it may have something to do with the sequence settings because since posting I copied the assembled clips on to a sequence that was working fine in another project and it worked fine. So I copied the sequence and pasted it back into the current project. So now I want to do another version, when I copy and paste the second version the shots a blown up and no amount of attempt to resize it works.
    Very frustrating

  • Fabric Manager port traffic output monitoring

is there a way to collect historical port utilization stats in Fabric Manager ver 2.1.2(c)?

You can get it by using Performance monitoring, but it is Licensed under FM_SERVER_PKG.

  • Surround Output Monitoring

What would be preventing my system from outputting surround audio from Audition?  Creative SBX-fi Extreme Music, Windows7Pro, tested setup in Windows and all speakers reproduce perfectly.  Audition's preferences only give me ASIO Front L/R for mapping choices and a hardware choice of MME or ASIO, both only give me two speakers.  I'm sure it's a simple thing that my old brain is missing.  Thanks, rg

No, I'm afraid not. The only way you get full surround sound out of your Creative soundcard is if the audio file is already encoded as Dolby Digital or, perhaps, DTS. The Creative card decodes this to your 5.1 surround channels. Audition outputs six separate audio streams for which you need a multichannel soundcard which has multichannel drivers. The Creative one doesn't AFAIAA.

  • VisualVM: Automatic output monitor tab information as picture

Hi, I need to output the "CPU" and "Heap" graphs (i.e. this http://download.oracle.com/javase/6/docs/technotes/guides/visualvm/monitor_tab.html) as picture and saved in a folder very frequency.
Is there tool which can schedule to dump that page to JPG for several processes and save to a directories?

If you lack thunderbolt, you choices for CHEAP output is pretty much non-existant.  If you had Thunderbolt, I'd recommend the AJA T-Tap.  Thunderbolt to this and then HDMI to an HDTV...for $250.  BlackMagic Design offers a device too...same connectivity, for $150 (I haven't tested that one though...but I did test the T-Tap and it works great).
Without Thunderbolt...or Express34 that some laptops offer, and PCIe that towers have...your only, and I mean ONLY...option for output is the AJA IoHD. But it has been discontinued. YOu might be able to find one used, but it was the most expensive output device out there for FCP.  Connects via Firewire 800 and is great, but ONLY works with FCP Legacy, and really isn't cheap.
So unless you pony up for a new computer with Thunderbolt...you might be outta luck.

  • Monitor or HD TV output? Which is better?

    Hi,
I've been editing in FCE for about a year now using the tiny canvas as my only monitor (while editing). I think I'm ready to move up to the big screen. I've asked many questions, and read much, but I'm still unsure what kind of output monitor would be best. There seems to be no clear answer. I'm a simple man. But, I would like to ensure I don't waste my money, or regret my purchase. Can anyone offer guidance as to whether I should buy a small HDTV to use as a monitor, or if I should buy a widescreen high-resolution monitor? I'm using a MacBook Pro which I bought last year. It has a DVI port, if that helps. Thanks.

  • While multi-camera monitor is open video output looks strobed

While the multi-camera monitor is opne the video output to my DV deck looks strobed and soft.  Any ideas?  I have CS 6 with a Sony DV deck on a MacPro 5,1.  When I close the multicamera monitor the video on the output monitor becomes sharp again.  This is simply unnacceptable as I need to see the video in full rez while playing back.

The multicamera monitor has always had an "adaptive resolution" when it comes to playback, meaning the resolution would degrade if it needed to (based on your system's capabilities) in order to keep up real time playback, which is more critical for multicam editing than full res playback.

  • S-Video Output, FCP & PB 17"

    Hi
I've got a new 17" Powerbook, with FCPHD.
Is it possible to get playback of my sequence to a Television using the S-Video port on my Powerbook?
    Cheers!

Probably, but it is a video representation of a computer screen, not the same signal or quality you would achieve from a FW->Camera/deck/converter to video. You would hook up the SVideo cable to a monitor/TV and boot, then use Digital Cinema Desktop to use the second screen as your output monitor...

  • Second iMac as external monitor; Connection via firewire without a deck/cam

Second iMac as an external monitor; Connection by firewire without a deck/camera possible?
I spend a lot of hours to find an answer to the following question, unfortunately without any success:
I’m working with a new iMac (Intel, OS 10.4.11) and Final Cut. Additionally I have an old iMac (G3, OS 10.3.9).
I would like to use the FireWire port to transport a dv video stream from the new iMac/Final Cut to the old one so that the old one can be used as a monitor. So all I want is a software for the old iMac that shows an incoming FireWire dv-stream as a live picture.
I tried vlc, videoviewer, iMovie, Vidi and btv. The problem is always the same: Final Cut (on the new iMac) does not find any FireWire/dv-device nor do all these software on the old iMac find a connection to Final Cut. I think the problem is that both sides are seeking for a device-setup at the FireWire-port on the other side. And none of them sends a signal like „yes I’m here and waiting for a dv-stream“.
Another attempt was ScreenRecycler with VNC-client on the old iMac. Unfortunately on my old iMac Os 10.3.9 is the last possible OS and no vnc client on that system is fast enough to show a video in real time.
I also tried virtualDV from Apples FireWire SDK 20. It works so far, that it claims to be a dv-device (on the old iMac) and so Final Cut at the new iMac says: „okay I’ll deliver you that stream“. The problem now is that virtualDV only can record that stream, not show it in real time.
Is there any solution like virtualDV that shows a live preview and turns the iMac in a FireWire dv-device?
Is there any solution that Final Cut simulates to be a FireWire dv-device itself and that another computer finds that device and understand the dv-stream?
Thank you very much for your help.

    Don't think this is possible.
You're better off using a DAC (for example the one made by Canopus) and put your DV in and get a compatible signal out the other end for connection to your monitor.
I don't understand why you would want to go through a computer first, it would be a waste of time and add a huge delay to the signal.
Finally, I wouldn't use a computer monitor as an external display, it would be useless in my experience. Why not just preview on the one you've got by going full screen in FCP? Also using a computer monitor as a preview/output monitor is not a good idea since it's so different from a normal TV and won't show the correct colour space or issues such as flickering and interlace problems, underscan etc etc.
Seems like you're using a sledgehammer to crack a very small nut and that would be to use a DV camera via firewire and then connect up a monitor from that. (again using a convertor box if you have a connection problem.)
