Output of slideshow to .wmv in PSE5

I created a slideshow in PSE5 that I saved as a .wmv file.  My Samsung bluray player would not play the file and Samsung support suggested it may be that the wrong codecs were used in the creation of the file.  The codecs supported are:
Video: VC-1 AP or VC-1 SM
Audio: wma
Does anyone know what codecs PSE5 uses when it creates a .wmv file?

Now I don't work for Adobe, but it is my understanding that these WMV files written from the PSE 5 slide show creation editor are intended for playback on a computer (most usually a Windows OS computer but also possible on an Apple computer with proper plugins).
Do you also buy Premiere Elements 3, when you purchased Premiere Elements 5 ?
Premiere Elements it is capable of writing the output of your PSE 5 slideshow in more choices of video formats. So there is a better chance that Premiere Elements could write an output that could be read by your Samsung DVD player.
P.S. I don't know which codec PSE 5 uses for the wmv file.  There are several utility programs that will display the info about a video file.
http://www.headbands.com/gspot/
is the site for a utility called G-spot that might be helpful for you to learn what codec was used for the PSE 5 wmv files that you have. People on the Adobe Premiere Elements forum often discuss interpretation of this information.

  • How can I output a slideshow so that it fills 16:9 tv screen?

When I output a slideshow to a wmv file I want to burn the file in 16:9 format to play on HD widescreen TV. I cannot view it without bars on sides. How can I output so that slideshow will be border less?

Search for .prx files on your computer and then select them from the Slide Size drop down. e.g. C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Elements 12 Organizer\Assets\locale\en_US\tv_profiles\12 - Widescreen Enhanced Definition.prx.
During the creation of the slide show you can still only work within a 4:3 portion of the screen, but selecting a 16:9 size will output without the vertical bars.

Can you output iphoto slideshows in video formats?  If so, which video formats?  Is output in H.264 format with 4:3 aspect ratio possible?  Thanks.

If you set the aspect ratio to 4:3 in iPhoto
you can use the Export button at the bottom of the slideshow window and pick one of the sizes you'd like.
That will give you this format:
If you want to do more customization of the output follow Terence's export method.

  • In PSE9, outputting slideshow to .wmv skews inserted text, but preview is fine.

In Photoshop Elements 9, I created a slideshow, which included text on the slides.  The preview looks
exactly how I want it, but when I output to a .wmv file, the text becomes over-sized and spills off the slide
(so only about two-thirds of it is visible).  How can I get the outputted .wmv file to look exactly like the preview?
    Regards,
    Chris

I did try re-doing the slideshow from scratch, and changing all the image sizes to match the output video (1024 x 768).  I still got the same problem - until I realized that re-sizing the text window over the slides causes this to happen.  I tried experimenting with the text on 2 identical slides, and each time when I re-sized the text box, the text skewed.  I can still move the text box around without incident.  Any further thoughts on why this happens?

  • Output  of slideshow to mwv file

i eated a slideshow and wheI did the output it stopped working at 52 percent.  I got a pop up stating the file was created successfully when really it didn't.  Had no problems creating the slideshow itself.  I recently installed the PSE 9 onto my new laptop.

You may have an additional layout for the .ctl file. That is a new set of frames and fields that gives you the .ctl file, without querrying again.
As for the after report trigger, it would be best not to use it. It is obsoleted.

  • Saving photoshop elements 7 slideshow as .wmv file

I have tried to export my slideshow from pse7 to pe7 and it wasn't working so i tried to save the slideshow as a .wmv file and it gets halfway through saving and it encounters a problem and needs to close what can i do about this new problem that i now have now i have 2 problems not able to export slideshow to premiere elements 7 and now i can not even save it please help

to troubleshoot your problem I suggest two courses of action at the same time
A -- you should create a new test slideshow which has only about 10 photos. In this test slide show use music (if your original slide show had music) and use pan/zoom (if your original slide show did).  When picking these approximately 10 photos, choose photos that are representative of those in your original slide show.
B - please respond to these questions
1 -- Have you ever been able to either save a slideshow as a wmv file or send a slideshow to Premiere Elements 7?
2 -- Have you recently cleaned out the Temporary Files on your computer ?  How much available space on your C drive?
3 -- How many photos are in your original slideshow (approximate number is OK) and what is the megapixel resolution (like were they from a 4 megapixel or a 10 megapixel camera or were they scanned)  for most of the photo files ?
4 -- Computer specs and what version of Windows?

  • PSE4 slideshow to .wmv fails?

I'm trying to create a .wmv file for a 14:25 slideshow in PSE4.  I've done this before with slideshows up to 15 min with no problem.  This one, however, has trouble creating the .wmv file if the screen resolution is too high.  I've done this on two computers running PSE4 with similar results: I can create a low res (160x120) .wmv file with no problem.  I tried a 720x480 and sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't (this for xfer to DVD via Premiere Elements, which worked fine).  But if I try a 1024x768 .wmv file (and sometimes with 720x480) the entire PSE program crashes with no error message or other indication.  The resulting file does play using Windows Media Player, but only for about 1/3 of the show, and Premiere elements doesn't recognize it as a valid .wmv file.  This may be system related because if I stop extraneous programs or run it in safe mode it gets a little further along, but not much.  I've also done this right after a reboot (in case of previous memory leaks) with the same result.
Any suggestions on what to adjust to get it to work?
Is it possible to create two or three .wmv files and stitch them together later using external software?
    Thanks

    Thanks for trying to help.
Actually, as noted above, it also fails (though not always) at 720x480.  Also, I've created several other .wmv files of similar length (15 minutes or so) at 1024x768 in the past.  Plus, 1024x768 is an option offered by PSE itself.
I've since been able to try it again on a newer computer with more memory (3GB) with the same result.
I don't know if this problem has carried through to PSE 7 or 8 because, despite Adobe's claim to the contrary, slide show creations do not convert properly to either PSE 7 or PSE 8 format.

  • Videos in slide shows

I have Photoshop Elements 6.  I have some photos and videos I took this summer and I am trying to make a "slide show" using both the pictures and the videos.  Can this be done, and if so, how?

I want to thank you for your time and trouble in helping me figure this out.  Barb_O from the Adobe Forum suggested I try changing the length of the viewing time but that did not work.  smriti from the Adobe Forum suggested I select the photos and video in the organizer, then select the Create Tab, then select the slideshow from the list.  Then smriti said "In the slideshow window that opens you can output the slideshow as wmv or pdf."  However I don't get the option on how to "output" it.  I get the message "The slideshowsupports only Photos, Photo Projects Formats and Windows Media compatible video files.  Your selection includes items of other types, which will be skipped."
This summer I took both of my grandchildren on vacation and of course I took pictures and videos of the trips.  Now I am trying to make a "slideshow/video" of our vacation, copy it on to a DVD and give it to them for Christmas.
Someone where my husband works suggested downloading Apple Quick Time, which we tried without any luck.  I tried to send the video back to my card so I could try and down load it again and try to change it to a wmv, but that didn't work either as I couldn't get it on my card.
I used a Canon PowerShot SX10IS camera.  I have Windows Vista, and Adobe Photoshop Elements 6 and Adobe Premiere Elements 4.  I have no idea what a codec is.  My videos end in .mov.
Although I would prefer on long photo - video - photo slideshow in chronological order of our vacation I'm thinking my only two choices are either to run one then the other OR several little ones, start a small slide show, when it ends do a video, then another slide show and so on till they are all on the DVD.
I am open to any other suggestions you may have that might help.
    Thanks
    Sue

    Subject: Videos in slide shows
    1. The support of video files in Organizer and slideshow depends upon the codecs installed on the system. If the supported video codecs are installed the files are displayed and played properly in Organizer and slideshow Editor.
    2. If the default slideshow duration is shorter than the duration of the video, the video does not get truncated if the supported codecs are installed. I verified in E6 where the slide duration was set to 2 secs and the video duration was 14 sec and the video did not get trunated in the slideshow.

  • Improve encoding speed for WMV output?

    Hi,
Firstly, apologies if I am posting this in the incorrect area of the forums. I'm not entirely sure it's a hardware issue, I think it might be codec related.
I am trying to find a way to reduce encoding times for a (on average) 4 minute clip using Premiere/AME CS5
My input format is either XDCAM HD or IMX50, my output formate is always wmv, 720x 576 (PAL) interlaced, currently single pass encoding (because of the time taken) using the Windows Media Encoder (wmvencod.dll).
There are no effects, nor transistions in my sequence. 2 tracks of video - 1 actual video, the second a logo overlay. 1 stereo pair for the audio.
Hardware is a single Intel Xeon, quad core 2.5Ghz processor, currently with 10Gb memory. I have tried doubling up on the processors and also increasing the memory up to 16Gb but the improvements are marginal. Switching hyperthreading off also provides a marginal improvement in encoding time.
I am running this on a server class 1u box. Currently it only has the standard vga server graphics card in it. I have mixed feelings about installing a graphics card as I have read conflicting information about whether it will provide an improvement in my encoding time.
I don't think MPE is relevant, given that I'm not doing any effects processing. Will the CUDA architecture provide a significant improvement?
I can only find 2 graphics cards that I think will fit in the box and these are the Quadro 4000 and Quadro FX 3800 that retail at around £650 - £800 + so it's a significant punt if they aren't going to provide an improvement.
In essence, I have a template (well a couple of) project that I add the source file to each time that gets dropped into AME for encoding. For HD source encoding takes about 4 times real time. For SD it's about real time.
If I chose a different output format, with the same input format eg h264 or DV (avi) then the encoding time is reduced to roughly 1/3rd of what I am experiencing at the moment. That gives me the impression that the wmv encoder is the bottle neck
Are there alternatives to using the standard Microsoft WMV encoder? If so, how do I go about getting AME to use them, given that prior to installing Media Player I didn't even have wmv as an export option.
Any thoughts on this would be appreciated.

I couldn't tell you whether or not it uses the same dlls as the Microsoft program... that's getting deeper under the hood than I usually go! :-) If it is, then you're correct in that going to an intermediate and using WME isn't going to speed up your process.
For more info on hardware, go to www.ppbm5.com and look at the test results page... see what folks were using who got the higher results. IIRC, your specific processor (even in its dual form) is a rather poor performer with this kind of stuff, and the Core i7 line is much better.
Out of my own curiosity, I'm running a test on my system to see if I can reproduce the similarly long encode times with WMV versus h.264. I've got a 4:23 AVCHD clip which I'm rendering first using h.264 MainConcept to PAL DV Widescreen HQ (the only reason I'm using PAL here isbecause that's what you're using, and I wondered if it would go differently than NTSC... I've never used PAL before). The full encoding time for that in h.264 was about 1:45, so a little better than double real time. The same clip, rendered with WMV using PAL Widescreen source to HQ Download is taking about 3:15, so pretty much double the h.264 clip's time, but still better than realtime, and nowhere near the results you're getting.
I don't remember what you said your HD setup was like, but make sure you've got multiple hard drives, preferably a RAID for your data disk. I learned that having a good disk configuration can really make a lot of difference, all other things being equal!

  • Posting slideshow  to video.google--size matters

I posted earlier about compressing a wmv file I had created to email and decided just to post it to video.google.
So I posted a slideshow to video.google but no matter what I do, I can't make it "full screen." See here: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=874330041612533639&q=Navy+homecoming
I'm not sure what is needed so here are the particulars: Windows XP, PSE5.0, and Organizer. I created all images as 800x600 at 72 dpi, layering the photos onto black pages. I had a couple scans and zooms. Again, the base "page" was 800x600 and I scanned and zoomed within that.
I output it as a wmv file at 640x480 and then uploaded it to video.google. And I don't get full screen
Has anyone had any experience with video.google and know what I'm doing wrong?

    Hi Barb,
I was a little rushed when I wrote my first reply, I had to go to the
dentist. I'm back from the appointment and did a little more research on
    Google Video.
It looks like things are a bit more complicated. Like YouTube and other
video services, GoogleVideo re-encodes the uploaded videos. When you play
back on the web in a browser, you're seeing a flash movie. In addition, you
can download it, and that seems to give you a mp4 for ipods or gvp/gvi
(custom avi format for use with the google player) for computer viewing.
The issue is the re-encoding. I don't know what Google is doing with the
video. At the very least, they are converting to different formats and
codec than the original (flash, mp4, and gvi). They also appear to be
resizing the video to a standard frame size. I didn't try the Google Player
download, but the embeded source for the web page seems to say that the
flash movie is 400x326. So, it doesn't look like John will be able to
benefit from a higher resolution wmv as far as GoogleVideo is concerned. In
fact, it could even make it look worse depending on how the resizing is
accomplished. A higher resolution wmv will certainly look better on a
computer. And, the resolution he has will be fine for viewing on a standard
    TV.
I don't upload to GoogleVideo so I'm not familiar with the process or the
    requirements.
John's choices for resolution are very reasonable if his main intent is for
viewing on a conventional TV. (NTSC resolution is 720x480 pixels but the
pixel aspect ratio is 0.9 -- this is equivalent to 640x480 square pixels)
In general, you'll want to resize the images to close to your intended
resolution before you make the slideshow with the exception of frames that
will be panned and zoomed which will need to be larger. Resizing in
Elements or Photoshop is generally better than what you would get scaling in
PE 3, for example, and using full sized 6mb images, for example, can result
in very long render times and may cause other problems if processed in a
video editor such as PE 3.

  • Highest quality slideshow saved to movie file is has terrible resolution in PE12, but PDFs look great. What's up?

I've saved a PE12 slideshow as the highest quality available, but the resolution is low when viewing. When saved as a PDF the resolution is outstanding. Does anyone know how I can get better resolution from the movie file?

How are you creating the video file? PSE itself can only record in the horrid outdated VCD format. Output your slideshow to a WMV file and then use PRE, if you have that, or whatever burning software you have to finalize the video.

  • Jerky horizontal panning in slideshows exported to QT

After having a few issues with iMovie 6 to create slideshows, I tried again in iPhoto, as the 'fit to music' bug appears to be fixed.
All is well - much quicker to produce than with iMovie - but photos that have ken burns applied which pan from left to right, or right to left, appear fine in iPhoto, but are noticably jerky once exported to QT.
Has anyone had similar problems, or know of any fixes?
    Cheers,
    Iain

You need to de-interlace before you output to QT and WMV. There's a basic de-interlace filter built-in to Final Cut Pro or you can get a higher quality 3rd-party de-interlacing tool.

  • Error when writing the diaporama to WMV

I created a diaporama with adobe premiere organiser8  and saved it in WMV. I made a dvd and after viewing it on TV and noticing some errors I returned to organiser8  and brought the corrections needed . I tried to save it again in WMV so that i could make another DVD but now it is giving me the message that an error occurred when trying to create the file and was not able to create the WMV.
I have done this procedure quite a few times and never had any problem.
I worked so hard doing this diaporama with comments and music I hope somebody can help me
Thank you in advance to whoever will answer and come up with a solution

You're talking about creating a slideshow using the Organizer's slideshow creator, right?
If so, you'd be best not to output this slideshow as a WMV, unless you plan to play it on a computer.
If you're planning to burn it as a DVD, your best workflow is to select the output option Send to Premiere Elements. Once the slideshow is in Premiere Elements, you can output a good, quality DVD from there.
And, of course, as always, ensure that your photos are no larger than 1000x750 pixels in size before you add them to your slideshow to guarantee optimal performance and minimal rendering times for your DVD!

  • PSE 8 vs PSE7 slideshow creation

I have successfully created slideshows in PS Elements 7.  After installing PS Elements 8, I no longer can produce a viewable slideshow.  Here is my procedure;  -- start the browser, -- select images to be included in the slideshow, -- , go to CREATE > Slideshow, select OUTPUT on the Slide Show Editor screen, then choose Save as a File , to make a WMV in NTSC format and hit OK, -- then name the slideshow file that is to be created on the Save SlideShow as WMV screen.  After creation, I am asked if I want to save the changes made to the slideshow--I answer YES.  A WMV file is created but it is unviewable -- when playing it, the screen is constantly black.  If I play it in the slideshow editor, the timeline advances properly but the preview window also remains black.

I am having a similar problem.  If I am in the slide show editor, and click the play button, the screen goes black, but I can see the thumbnails light up one at a time.
If I "output" a pdf slide show I can use it with no difficulty.  If I "output" a wmv file it is all black.
If I try to view a wmv from years ago that is in my catalog I do not have a problem.
    Any ideas?
Since my last successul slide show creation I have upgraded from PSE7 to PSE 8 and I have also upgraded Pinnacle Studio Plus to v12.  I am not using Studio right now, but wanted to be complete about what is on the system.
