Output only in left channel

So I recorded a song and various instruments... everything was going great but I don't know what happened, suddenly sound was only coming from left channel and right channel only gets like reverbs and stuff. At the bottom only one of the bars is showing sound bouncing. How do I pan it back to normal?

It could be that we're both missing something obvious that someone else would see.
However, trashing Preferences (and to a lesser extent Caches) is a way to get rid of GB "ghosts" that mysteriously show up for no reason and mess things up. It often fixes mysterious problems that can't be fixed any other way (short of a complete uninstall and reinstall). When you get rid of preferences, it makes GB appear fresh to the computer. Caches are just temporary files - you can trash all of them and they simply grow back like weeds when you run the program.
If you're concerned about the risk, you could put them into folders, put the folders into the trash, and restart your computer, but don't empty the trash so the prefs and caches stay there "just in case." Open up GB (it will look like it's being opened for the first time), and new preference files and caches will be generated automatically. However, you could always retrieve your old preferences and caches in the trash, and swap them out for the new ones (although it's really better just to trash the old ones).
This won't effect your other projects and may not even help this one. However, it may fix the problem as this sometimes does fix ghost-in-the-machine problems, and is along the lines of housekeeping. It's refreshing some files that occassionally get corrupted, forcing the program to generate pristine new ones.

iMac into cam adaptor into garage band works, but GB only sees left channel. Do you think it's the wiring of iMIcs USB vs. the camera adaptor? Or is there a switch in GarageBand that will bring in both channels? Thanks!

Sorry, I meant iMic into Camera Adaptor, not iMac. (no option to edit and re post ones own post)

  • Airport Express only outputs sounds through left channel

Recently purchased a new airport express.
Sound is only audible through the left channel. Sound through the right channel is barely audible even at max volume (speakers and iTunes).
Speakers are fine (they work fine through the stereo, iPod earphones also only work through left channel).
If I turn sound enhance on and up to high, I can finally hear through the right channel, but only at about 40-50% of the left.
Is this a software issue, or bad hardware?
I've hard reset the airport express multiple times. Same issue whether wirelessly or connected via ethernet. This is running from iTunes 7 for Windows using a Linksys router.

Doesn't sound promising for the AX. Since it was
recently purchased, do you have the option to visit
your local Apple Store to either return it for
replacement or, at least, have them verify the
    problem?
The reason why I thought it might be software related was due to this effect of changing the sound enhancer, i.e by turning the sound enhancer on and setting it to high there was a considerable increase in sound output. If there was a loose connection somewhere I don't think I'd expect this behavior. It's almost as if the balance has been set all the way to the right.
Given that no-one seems to have seen this problem before (other than a unresolved single old post on the Airport Express board), it does seem that you're right and the AX needs replacing.

  • Power Mac G5 Audio is outputting only the right channel

I have an audio problem with my PowerPc Audio card, I presume. It is only outputting the right channel. I have a set of computer speakers and when I go into System Preferences and move the balance slider, there is only sound coming from the right channel. Absolutely nothing from the left.
I found this problem when editing in FCP and needing to do a split track with VO on channel 1 and Nats and music on channel 2. I could see the meters showing the audio output from channel 1 but no sound coming through the Mac's left channel output.
Also, I have a DeckLink extreme card in my system and when I test the L-R channel output I get the same problem. I do not know if the decklink is somehow using the Mac audio card for help with its output. I would think that it is using its own hardware for generating the audio output from the card.
Hardware issue? Time for a Mac Genius repair? Don't know if there is any workarounds or fixes before I go that route. Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks
    Doug

No I didn't but I run my Mac's output into an analog mixer and then out to my speakers.
When outputting through channel 2 only, both speakers work, yet when I pan to channel 1 the sound drops out. As I pan from full channel 2, where both speakers are up full, you can hear the sound fade out.
Also, I got the Deck Link card to work through my mixer. The L and R channels are outputting through separate inputs in the mixer and work independently and correctly. I even changed out the mini stereo cable just in case and still no left channel out of the Mac.
Very weird! I've even repaired and defragged my system disk in case it is some sort of corrupted code. Just grasping at straws before I take it to a Mac Genius.
Thanks for writing. I appreciate any and all suggestions.

  • Exports for DVD only include left channel of audio! Help!!!

Hi, I just realized that the files that I have been exporting using compressor have been only exporting the left channel. I am not sure what the problem is and would appreciate any help anyone could give me, as I'm on a big deadline and need to solve this ASAP.
The way I've been doing it, is I right click on the sequence name in Final Cut Pro and select Export > Export Using Compressor. Then I selected the DVD Best Quality 90 Minutes option. The AIFF file that is created seems to only have audio in the left channel. The original files themselves are definitely stereo, and play both channels in Final Cut.
I really don't understand. The Inspector within Compressor shows this information for the AIFF file:
    File Extension: aiff
    Estimated file size: unknown
Audio Encoder: 16-bit Integer (Big Endian), Stereo (L R), 48.000 kHz
It says Stereo, so I don't know what the problem is! Please help!!!

In the Sequence Settings, I see this:
    Downmix: 0
    Grouping: Stereo
I also checked the Audio Mixer window and nothing seems to be muted or solo'd. A1 is panned all the way to the left, and A2 all the way to the right, but I'm guessing this is normal, and just the way that stereo channels are shown?
I'm not sure if I have downmix enabled--where do I check that?
On somebody else's suggestion, I tried exporting a non self-contained Quicktime movie from FCP and then dragged that into Compressor and it seems to solve the stereo issue. Not sure why it doesn't work going straight from FCP, but there must be something going on inside there...
Thanks so much for your help. I really appreciate it!

  • USB Audio Device only plays left channel out both speakers.

usually i use my Yamaha Audiogram 3 usb audio device to record things in cubase, and when the cubase settings are set it is fine, but as soon as i close cubase, the left channel of any audio (like itunes playback) plays out of both left and right speakers in the headphones i use. this only happens when the Audiogram 3 is plugged into 1 certain usb port (of 2).
its even fine when i have cubase running in the background while i play music from itunes. it just doesn't make any sense. it also appears to recognize that its stereo in one port, but not the other.
i would suspect it has something to do with the drivers for the usb device (if there even are any), that the drivers it placed into the system only applies to that one usb port, but if thats the case, you would think it would install new drivers for the other port as soon as i plug in my audiogram, but thats not the case.
no cd for the audiogram. you simply plug it in.
ive tried restarting the computer, plugging it in again, trying to change the settings. nothing seems to work. i need the other port to work.

Try resetting the PRAM. Info here:

You may also want to take a look at the Audio MIDI Setup utility and make sure everything is configured properly there.

  • Sound only from left channel

I bout an IPhone 3G for my wife last friday. She complained about the music quality saying that her little cheap MP3 player sounded better. I plugged in the headset and found that there was sound only fro one channel (Left). I plugged my headset from my 3GS and it also only had sound from one channel. Any suggestions?

    Try restart, reset, then restore.

If this doesn't help, you may need to make an appointment at the Genius BAr ( Apple Store). The iphone has a one year warranty.

  • Airport Express: Sound only from left channel

I've got an Airport Express which used to work fine, but at some point in the past few months, I noticed that there was no audio coming from my right speaker when using Airtunes. I've check the cable and it does transmit both left and right when I hook my iPod up to it.
I've also got the low volume problem going on in the left channel that's working. And ideas?

I took the AirPort Express to the Apple Store and it turned out that it was a physcial problem with the hardware. It had to be replaced.

  • Sound only on left channel

    Hi,
I'm shooting some video on a JVC GR-DV3 (admittedly old but still does the job!) and am using an Audio Technica ATR 3350, omnidirectional Lavalier condenser microphone as the motors are too noisy for speech using the built-in mics.
When I import the clips into iMovie all the sound is on the left channel, not equally distributed between the two?
    Any thoughts or fixes?
    JC

I bet the microphone is a mono microphone. When you plug that into a 3.5mm stereo microphone input, all sound is "sent" to the left channel. You need an adapter cable or adapter socket.

  • Logic won't let me record stereo style! Only the left channel.

I was recording just fine with my keyboard connected to my TASCAM US-122 USB interface with an instrument cable today then all of the sudden I could only hear the keyboard in the left side of my headphones. I tried the other line-in and then I could only hear myself on the right side. What went wrong here? Keep in mind, it was working just fine but in between takes it cuts one side out. And all of my pan adjustments are equal.

If you are using a single, jack to jack cable you are effectively recording in mono, on one channel. When you are monitoring your recording signal you will only hear one side because your tascam is only sending it to one logic channel...
Your tascam has a mono direct monitoring switch - you should switch it on when recording with only one jack to jack cable - it will allow you to monitor directly through the interface whilst hearing your sound on both sides. You should record to a mono logic track and you will then be able to pan it afterwards as desired.
For a true stereo keyboard recording you would need to connect two jack to jack cables from your keyboard (if it has left and right outputs) into two separate mono channels on your interface. You could then record to a stereo track on logic, or two separate mono tracks panned hard left and right.
I may be wrong, but I reckon your problem stems from not properly understanding how the stereo field corresponds to recording channels.

  • Sound output only on two channels but system set to 7.1 sound

LabVIEW2011, Win7, Creative audigy 2 soundcard and/or USB sound device  set to 7.1 sound
The sound2.llb ... info found the card but only allow to open 2 output channels giving error 4811 when trying to configure for more than 2 channel output.
However the OS audio test 'ping' every speaker
    Any hints welcome
I attached my test vi. you will need at least one wav sound file ... (or try to rescue the diagram values... )
It runs with one or two channels but fail on higher channel counts.

  • Audition only recording left channel?

    Hi Guys,
I'm recording some records and while looking at the wav form I noticed that audition was only recording the left cahnnel but in stereo (both channels) I've looked at everything else and audition has got to be it. Recording is fine using Cool edit 2.0 but in audition 3 this is happening? Any info out there on this?
Also, in my recording travels. I tried recording through USB but found that the wave file looked somewhat compressed and unnatural. Looks great through a soundcard but through usb it looked very strange. is this natural?
    George

Check in the Audio hardware Setup page that you have correctly selected the stereo input. The drop down list that Audition usually list the Mono inputs first ie. 01M, 02M etc.. You need to look further down the list and select the appropriate stereo inputs usually numbered 01S, 02S etc. depending on your audio interface.

  • Gigaworks S750 + Audigy1 - Only hear left channel in left and right speakers

Since last week I'm the proud owner of a gigaworks S750. Since my new computer went RMA I decided to hook it up on my old computer with an Audigy (SB Audigy E400) audio card.
The original Audigy drivers come with this test program that tests all channels saying "front left", "front right" etc etc through the respecti've speakers.
However, when running this test program I hear the "front left" message through both the front speakers, and the "rear left" message through both the side speakers.
The "front right" and "rear right" messages I don't hear.
I've been looking through the settings of the audigy and reading the manual of the Gigaworks set, but nothing turned up.
My old Philips 4.1 speakerset did not have this problem, so my guess is it's something with the gigaworks.
    Thanks

U sure the speakers are set to 7.1 ? BTW u need Audigy 2 ZS or Audigy 2 Platinum to make all your speakers make the correct sounds. BUY A NEW SOUNDCARD!!!

  • [BUG N95]Radio only on left channel

Hi. Since upgrading to v12 firmware the radio is only playing on the left headphone. First I thought the headphones might be damaged but the music player works perfectly, its just the radio only going to the left headphone!
    Whats that about?!
The bug it does NOT depend on signal strenght.
i'have made more tests (deep reset inclusive).

Hi guyz.Just wondering if you have tried to set the Balance in the music-Player of N95?
I suggest you guyz play a song and then goto the setting of the music-player maybe then it should work, if you see whether the balance is out.... its worth a try.
You can then check in your phone(general)setting{tools->Setting->general->enhancements} that you have selected HEADSET as your default.
May be it should solve it!
Come on give it a try then post your results here.

  • Audio output from left channel only

My iPhone 5s (iOS 8.1.1) suddenly developed a problem with audio output last week after about 9 months of ownership. Through the headphone socket and Bluetooth streaming, only the left channel could be heard. I arranged an appointment at the Apple store and they confirmed after they carried out a restore (iOS 8.1.1) that there was only audio from the left channel. The phone was replaced under warranty.
My new phone was partially set-up in store and all I had to do was load my backup when I got home. I loaded the backup from my Mac and tested the audio output. To my surprise, the new phone had exactly the same problem as the one that was diagnosed as faulty in the Apple store i.e., audio output on the left channel only.  I contacted Apple support via chat and explained the issue. I was advised to test the new phone without my backup being loaded. I restored the phone and tested the output using both Bluetooth and the headphone socket and there was a stereo output as normal. I reloaded my backup and it returned to left channel audio only. I was advised to then reset the phone and this cleared the problem. Corrupt backup data??
What I can’t understand is that two phones exhibit an identical problem, with one being a hardware issue and the other apparently a software issue. Too much of a coincidence if you ask me.
Is it possible that an app could cause a problem leading to a hardware failure?
