Output only through midi keyboard

I have a midi keyboard plugged into my computer using m-Audio's midisport 2x2. i was trying to get playback from logic to speakers becides the ones in the keyboard, but i haven't had any luck. normal system sounds are good, and so is garageband. however if i change the instrument in logic, I get the midi sound that i just chose through the speakers, but also the sound the keyboard plays normally. i.e. i choose drums on logic and get both drum sounds and piano sounds from the keyboard. ive looked through the help, and tried searching through the forums, but could not find how to change it.

let me try to update my question:
I cannot get sound out of my system speakers. i can tell the midi keyboard is working because I can hear the sound of the program coming out of the midi keyboard. (the keyboard is very basic and has no midi controls) even if i use the built-in input, it does not give me sound. my thought is its a problem with the settings in the program, and it just wont play sound through the computer until I change it

  • Audio Output Corruption when using USB MIDI keyboard controller

recently, i'm getting intermittent corrupted audio output (short blips of distortion) while playing through my usb midi keyboard. i thought maybe some data got corrupted on the disk over time so i wiped the drive, reinstalled osx, installed all updates, hooked up usb keyboard and all worked fine. today, i plugged in the keyboard and the distortions have reappeared. i unplugged the keyboard and played with the Musical Typing- still distorted. i rebooted and tried Musical Typing- still distorted. I removed the usb midi keyboard device from Audio MIDI Setup, rebooted, and the distortions have disappeared when using Musical Typing. Connecting the keyboard causes the distortions to reappear. I'm at a loss.
    Any ideas?

  • I have my keyboard (m3) set up through midi

I have a korg m3 set up through midi with a m-audio profire.  I will record a sound from 1 setting on my keyboard through logic, search a different setting to find another sound and as soon as i switch settings (from synth to organs), it changes the previous sounds i had.  How can i fix this???

From you question it seems you don't have an understanding of what MIDI is and isn't. Rather than type a lengthy explanation I suggest going to Google and and type in...       What Is MIDI
Short answer, MIDI recording is only data, not sound. It simply plays back the recorded data (note, duration, velocity) to whatever sound the hardware is set to.
What you need to to is set up the keyboard in a multi-mode or performance mode. Different sounds assigned to different MIDI channels. Turn keyboard to "Local Off". Then as you select external MIDI tracks (set to separate MIDI channels) in Logic you should hear the independent sounds from the keyboard.
The other option is to record the audio from the keyboard.

  • I do not see the user interface for the Logic software instruments. I can hear them play through my midi keyboard but I cannot see them to adjust parameters. Please advise.

I do not see the user interface for the Logic Pro software instruments. I can hear them play through my midi keyboard but cannot see them to adjust the parameters. Please advise.

Couple of things - you can open the interface for any instrument or plug-in by double-clicking its insert slot on the channel strip. You can configure Logic to automatically open the interface for a plug-in when you first instantiate it in the preferences. Go to Logic Pro > Preferences > Display > Mixer, and check the box for "Open plug-in window on insertion".

  • Playing Keyboard through MIDI, while song is playing-lagging MIDI sound!

I'm trying to record a song from my MIDI keyboard, and I need to have the song playing while I record, but when the song is playing, the MIDI keyboard's sound delays by about 2-3 seconds, and it distorts the sound bit. Is there a way to fix this? please help!

    Hey, thanks for replying!
I think it's data triggering, and I've a MIDI USB powered A-800 pro plugged in. I have the MIDI set up as a buzz synth or something, and I inserted a song from itunes to play, and the song worked well, but while the song was playing, I can't play through the MIDI..well I can, but it's just really laggy. So I was searching through the settings, and I clicked "reduce MIDI data transmission" or something, and then the MIDI controller worked perfectly, but then the song wouldn't play at all. I really have no idea why its not working. I may have, while I was searching, clicked something that messed it up. And just to reiterate, if it's important, I saw to circles overlapping each other (like a venn diagram) next to the song title.

  • Midi Keyboard Won't Record On My Computer.  Need to figure this out quickly

Well it'll record, but sound only plays when my synthesizer (A Juno G) is connected. Once I disconnect it, an error message pops up and no sound is played from the recording. This is pretty useless to me since I won't use the synthesizer for live performances, just for at home recording. There has to be a way to record sounds directly from the keyboard, though the USB Midi port that I'm using, and into logic just like my MPK49 does. The whole reason I bought the synthesizer was to use the built-in sounds for my music.
Also, I searched through my keyboard and Logic manual and I do have the synthesizer's driver installed and all that stuff so I'm thinking it must just be a setting I have wrong.

Ok so the audio output would be a port that wasn't midi then?
Besides the midi usb output, it has a separate midi in and midi out as well as 4 individual A and B output jacks and the headphones jack. I'm assuming that I would have to get some sort of connector to use with the output jacks so I can connect it with my computer.
I tried connecting just a double male sided headphone jack wire to the synth and my computer but that doesn't work either. Didn't expect it to allow me to record from the synth onto my computer, but I figured it would play the juno through my computer speakers. It doesn't, though.
So how would I get Logic to play back the MIDI track and record the audio at the same time?
First, in the Preferences/Audio section you have to set the audio to built-in (not mic) Then you may have to go to Utilities/Audio MIDI Setup and select Line-in as the Audio Input.
The Headphone jack to computer should have worked, set the volume on the juno at 1/2 to start. The headphone output goes to the Line-in on the mac.
Someone else will have to jump in here as I need to start rehearsal work and need to empty any technical stuff out of my brain!
    Good luck
Oh, you record a MIDI track (create an external MIDI track) Set the Midi Interface to the Juno (probably already is) record the MIDI track, edit it, play it back while recording an audio track.
You REALLY need to sit down, read and learn what you're doing.
You can't expect the forum to help you every step of the way, how do you think we all learned?

  • How do i connect a Midi keyboard to my imac

I have a Yamaha Clavinova Keyboard with a midi output at the back, but i,m not sure how to connect it to the mac.
    Can anyone help me please.
    Chris

With only a MIDI OUT you'll need an interface. Here are a few examples:

  • IMac won't recognise USB MIDI keyboard in Audio MIDI Setup

I upgraded earlier in the week from a G4 eMac to a new Intel iMac. All appeared well until I tried to use my Evolution MK-361 USB midi keyboard from inside Logic. No midi events were coming through the system.
After some fiddling around I found the Audio MIDI Setup utility and the keyboard is not listed as a device in there. However, if I open System Profiler and select the USB information I can see that the keyboard is connected. According to the E-Magic web site this model of keyboard is class compliant and so shouldn't need a driver installed.
Originally I had the keyboard plugged into a USB hub. I've tried restarting the machine, restarting the machine with the cable plugged into different USB ports and different USB cables plugged into different USB ports. I've also downloaded all the latest OS / firmware / application updates and installed them.
I reconnected the keyboard to my old eMac and it shows up on there so I know it's not a fault in the keyboard itself.
The only other bits of gear connected to the machine are a Lacie external hard drive and my Saffire but these are firewire device so I wouldn't expect them to cause a problem (they certainly didn't on the eMac).
If anyone has any ideas I would seriously appreciate the help. As you can imagine I'm pretty gutted having forked out a grand for the machine.
    Cheers

    Hi Jon
So much for plug and play
    Yeah, it's great isn't it?
I emailed M-Audio tech support about it and apparently it's a known problem in 10.4.8 and they're waiting for a fix from Apple. I guess I'll just have to keep my eyes peeled for OS updates and go rummaging under the stairs for a midi cable instead.
    Ho hum.

  • Macbook no longer recognizes my midi keyboard

Hello folks. I'm having this problem where my macbook no longer recognizes my midi keyboard (M-Audio Radium 61.) I've had it working fine in the past through this midi to usb converter, and now the usb converter still lights up and shows data flowing when I have it plugged in, but for some reason the computer just doesn't seem to see it. The macbook also doesn't see this aggregate device I had working the other day too. But it sees other aggregate devices that are made up of the same outboard audio interfaces I have. Sunday was the first time I had my whole setup working with the keyboard running into Reason, out to Ardour via Jackpilot and out through my audio interface via the aggregate device (which is actually just made up of the inputs and outputs of my M-Audio FastTrack Pro because for some reason the computer sees them as separate devices... different point of contention...) Anyway, so now today was the first time I tried to set it all up the same way again since Sunday and I can't get them working. Any thoughts?

  • Osx 10.6.8 m audio midi keyboard issue, not recognised

    hi
after updating the OS to the latest snow leopard i'm no longer able to use my midi keyboard (M-AUDIO Radium 61 usb powered)
i'm using an M-Audio fast track pro usb external audio device and when i plug the midi cable, coming from the keyboard, none of my softwares recognise it (Logic pro, Ableton, Reason).
the monitor led for the midi signal is flashing indicating that signal is received but no signal at all seems to be sent to the OS.
i initially thought it might have been the audio device driver: outdated for the running osx (audio ins and outputs where behaving correctly anyway) and did update it. No changes
i've also downloaded the latest keyboard's drivers (for osx 10.6.8 32bit), wich seemed superfluous to me since i'm using it via midi cable only, with no results.
Tried by repairing disk permissions as well in disk utility (just in case..)
tried my devices on a diffrent macbook installing an older version of snow leopard and they're doing theyr job properly
tried using a Midi to USB cable converter instead (was working on the other computer)
i don't have (i'm not sure at least) a backup for the previous osx upgrade to restore (is there a way to find out what version of the os is backed up within time machine?)
any help will be highly appreciated
    Matteo

the issue persists with Lion os 10.7.3

  • MIDI keyboard suddenly does not work in logic

Well, I bought a new keyboard over the weekend because guitar center was having its sale.
Thing is, I have already tried it out, and it worked. It is connected to my PreSonus firebox, and I cant for the life of me figure out why it isnt working anymore. It turns on, it plays through the keyboard's internal speakers if I turn the volume up, it is connected to my audio interface, and logic plays tracks through it just fine. The only thing is that my keyboard isnt working as a controller. I have checked all the connections, restarted logic multiple times, and turned everything (except my macbook) off and on. Nothing.
So I went ahead and pulled out my old keyboard which I have not attempted to sell yet, and it didnt work either. So either there is something very simple that I am overlooking, or there is a problem with the MIDI cable, or with the jack on my firebox.
Any ideas? I'm hoping that I'm just being stupid...

Ah, it is a MIDI keyboard without an interface, so you send midi to the Presonus, which I think also has MIDI, right? Is there no setup software for the Presonus?
The fact that your Keyboard doesn't have its' own (USB-) midi interface, means that it will not appear in AMS - the Presonus MIDI ports should show up. You can create the keyboard in AMS though, and cable it to the Presonus MIDI. Just click "Add Device" and fill in the correct info.
And trying a different MIDI cable may be a good idea as well.
And check the Presonus for switches that may be in the wrong position.
That's all I got for you now...
    regards, Erik.

  • I have just bought Logic studio for my macbook pro, do i need to buy a midi keyboard?

Bascily just wondering if this would be essentail to the purchase i have just made, if not it's no bother. Thanks in advance.

I don't know how someone can purchase a $500 piece of professional MIDI/Audio software and even ask this question.
Of course you need a MIDI keyboard, unless you're going to work with canned loops in which case Garageband would be -more- than enough for you.
In fact, Garageband is a subset of Logic and is capable of producing professional grade output and is a perfect place to start learning about MIDI and Audio.
As a long time Logic user I admit it's difficult to see people using Logic without having a base of knowledge to build upon.
If you're going to use Logic you need to read the manuals and use the online help, there is so much good info there, it will give you an understanding of how Logic works and what it is designed to do.
Logic is not a hand holder, It will not walk you through how to use it, it's not a Mac program per se, you have to know what you're doing to learn Logic effectively. The best way to do this is to read manuals, watch tutorials and come up with a short list of questions that can be answered effectively... in short, intelligent questions.
Random questions of "what's this", "how do I do (fill in the blank)"  can give you an immediate answer but leave you clueless how that answer was arrived at. Knowing how to arrive at your own answers is a key to understanding and using Logic effectively.
Not ranting specifically at you LeGringe... just a general rant to new users who've aquired Logic without much former experience in MIDI/Audio...etc....etc.

  • Connecting a MIDI keyboard

I have found a nice cheap MIDI keyboard, which I must use with GarageBand. I have an iMic, with which I can plug in my guitar. But this keyboard only has a MIDI output port. Is there a MIDI to USB cable, or MIDI to 3.5mm (iMic) cable that I can use. If so, who makes it, where is it.
    Thanks Musical Macers.

  • Opinion on what to do with midi keyboard situation

So a few weeks ago I purchased a m audio axiom 61 midi keyboard to use with logic 9 on my mbp that is currently running snow leopard. I connect the keyboard through a usb cable and when doing so, the keyboard turns on but no noise comes out when I press the keys. When I hook up to the keyboard to any computer running leopard it works fine, the problem is only when I hook it up to computers running snow leopard.
The keyboard is class compliant so there are no drivers, updates, or software that will make it work. After searching all over the internet these past few weeks for a solutions and having a horrible response in terms of customer service from m audio I have basically lost hope in terms of having this keyboard work with my computer.
I am asking what you guys think the best solution is for this problem. I'm debating either having to purchase a leopard install disc just to downgrade so it will run with my computer or selling the keyboard and just purchasing another one from a different company that will work with my computer by default. Both of these solutions would be a nuisance and I'm not looking forward to going through the steps for either.
What do you guys think I should do, and if you have any ideas on what to do please let me know.
    Thank you.
    -Brian

I think we need to slow down here. You do not need to open Audio MIDI setup to test if the board works. Plug the thing in, open Logic, and simply look down in the transport window while you press some keys. You should see Note numbers flash just to the left of the CPU meters.
This is the critical step. CoreMidi is smart enough to know what is going on without even opening Audio MIDI Setup first. I do it all the time. I plug my M-Audio 02 keyboard in to the mac with a cable, and instantly get at least the notes coming into Logic in the transport as I described.
If you get the notes recognized, then your Axiom is fine.
As far as sound goes, that's a whole different story. You will get no sound in Logic unless you do several things first. I won't go into them all here, as I'm hoping you already know about going to the Preferences button at the top left of the screen and choosing Audio... from the list. Core Audio will come up and you can make sure you have Built-in Input selected since you don't have an external interface.
Then make a new track, choose a Soft Instrument, and a piano or something, and play away.
Audio Midi Setup control panel is for setting the SYSTEM's audio midi settings. Logic uses it's own settings. You need to set both to the same thing ideally.
But, say you get a firewire interface. Hook it up, go to Audio Midi Setup, you choose it as your choice of audio interface, and done....but Logic will still have Built-in Input set and you will hear nothing...so you have to again go and change it in Preferences > Audio.
bottom line, I use GarageBand as my test bed for things like this. It's a bit more "direct". The first track it puts in the line for you is a Piano...so you just plug the axiom in, and start playing.
Verify for us that you are getting note recognition in the Transport area.
One last thing - do you have a bunch of stuff plugged into the USB port with the Axiom? There is always the possibility there isn't enough bandwidth for the board to work if you have a scanner, iPhone, card reader, digital camera and keyboard/mouse all plugged in...longshot, but worth a mention.
