Output options for NI 9401

I am currently evaluating the CompactDAQ platform as a replacement for some of our older test equipment. In order to interface to my existing test setup, I need a digital I/O module that can tristate its outputs. I was looking at the NI 9401, but cannot tell from the manual if this module can do TTL high, low, and tristate. So, my question is, can you program the 9401 to tristate it's output?
Thanks in advance for any info. that you can supply on this topic.
Rob

Rob,
The 9401 is bidirectional, and when set to input, will function as a tristate output. There are a couple of things to keep in mind with this module: 1) When set to input, the lines still have a weak pulldown resistor with a min. value of 45 kOhms, as specified in the manual. 2) Line direction may only be controlled in banks on the 9401. This means that DIO 0:3 must all be set to the same direction, and 4:7 must all be set to the same direction. I don't have enough information about your setup to know if this will provide a complete solution.
Please post any additional questions, or more details about your application if you're still not sure whether or not this solves your needs.
Thanks,

• Best output options for EX1 XDCAM?

Does anybody have a recommended output option for a 50-minute film edited on a mix of primarily EX1 HD, but including DVCAM?
It needs to go to a post-house for grading and sound mixing.
I want to preserve the 1920/1080i HD quality – so should the video be rendered to one of the FCP codecs and delivered as a digital file, or played out to an HD tape deck?
If anybody has experience of this I’d be glad to hear about it. Thanks.

Ask the post house what they prefer. They can provide better info than a bunch of us Yanks can. They know what file formats/tape formats they can deal with.

• Smartforms: Output Options for Field Contents not working within table

Hello,
to display an amount and its unit I am using &GS_MM_IT_GEN-MENGE(R)& &GS_MM_IT_GEN-MEINS& with a line of a table. Unfortunatly it seams that the output option "R" (right-justified) is not working with the table context. Has anyone an idea, what to do?
Thanx,
Peter

Dear all,
thank you for your suggestions. I have found out, that the output option work pretty well as described in the documentation. The are output options of a field and not of a column! To get a right justified column, I had to change the attribute of the parapraph assigned to the column.

• Xslt output options for predefined entity references

Are there plans to include options for controlling the output of XSLProcessor for predefined entity references?
I haven't read the XSL spec by W3C, but I suppose that when <xsl:output method="html"> or method="text" is set all the XML predef. entity references (&;, ', etc.) have to be output as charachters, not as &apos, &#39, etc.
How is <xsl:output> going to be treated in the incoming version(s) with respect to entity references?
In any case may be it is better to include a programatic way of controlling the output?

I have a similar problem with the ampersand ent. ref. In the xsl file it has to be writen as and entity ref., but in the html output it must appear as character. However in the html file I'm also getting an entity reference.
By the way, are you using xsl transformations for the bulletin board? In the previous post the software translated the ampersand ent. ref. into character, but not so the apostrophe.
And generally can you tell me, how can I prevent the bb software from translating entity references :?)

• Output options for Web module

I have several suggestions to improve web gallery output using the Web and Print modules. First, and most important, should be the options to "Preview and Save", and "Export and Upload". With these options, when an event like an upload error occurs, the entire gallery doesn't have to be re-processed. Example: I attempted to upload a gallery of 400 photos this morning. After an hour or so, the remote server closed the connection causing me to have to recreate the entire gallery from the start, and another hour lost. Having the option to save the gallery locally in addition to previewing or uploading would be really practical.
Second, I'd like to have the ability to add info to the grid pages (html gallery), such as file name or rating. A simple drop down menu in the Site Info column...
Finally, how 'bout the ability to add text to the top of a contact print? Example: say I'm printing a grid of selected images from a shoot. I'd like to be able to add identifying info to the top of that printed sheet as well as file info such as file name with each photo.

• Best output option for video when doing adr and vocal recording?

I know this topic has come up before on occasion but I wanted to bring it up to hopefully reach a final conclusion.
Does anyone know the best configuration to use for ADR and other vocal recording in Logic when the mic and screen are in a separate room? The options I've seen so far are:
- Send video via DV firewire to a converter box and then to a monitor. With limited firewire ports already in use for the audio interface and dsp units, has anyone tried daisy chaining or using a firewire hub for dv output to a monitor?
or
- Use a DVI splitter to run to a 3rd LCD monitor(as a 2nd one is already in use) so the regular 'video window' could be dragged across to appear on the vocalist/actor's monitor.
These are the only choices I've seen seen so far but if anyone has any other's or recommendations on which of these to go for, I'd love to hear them.
Cheers
Paul

• Issue output options for reprinting output for delivery items

Hi Gurus,
I want to create the new output for delivery but at item level.
There is a standard proceduere available for trigger output at item level.
But I am not able to find the option to re-issue or see the print preview as that is not option is available in the standard menu at VL02N.
Due to this I am not able to debug the code as during triggering the output at item level both the program and script are called in background.
So is there any standard option available at item level to see the print preview as we can at header level.
If you requried any additional information then please let me know. Eagerly waiting for the reply.
Regards,
Sagar

Hi Arun,
Yes I want output to be trigger at the item level in the delivery.
If i tirgger the output that output at item level, i see the ouput as green (ie successful)
but when i got menu and try to issue to output i do not see this output type in the list and shows all header output types only..
Due to this i am not able to debug my program when doing print preview..
So i need a way where i can see the my program in debugging mode.
And VT70 is not useful to me i do no shippment no. but I have only delivery with me.

• I can get no sound out of my computer and the only sound output option I see is for headphones. Is that righ or is there something wong?

When I go to Settings and Sound the only Output option for me to select is Headphones. I'm pretty sure there should be other options. Problem? Ideas?

• Different Output's for PO's

Is it possible to have different Output options for PO in the backend, like for example if PO is created based on PR coming from SRM SC then the output must be of say type 1, but if the PO is created from the back-end PR or with no connection at all to the PR coming out of SRM then the output must be of type 2??, if yes can some one please tell me how ?? thanks in advance.

Hi. You could link your reqs from SRM to a new PO doc type in R/3.
That way the POs from EBP reqs would have a different doc type to other POs created in R/3.
Then you can have a new output type with a new form and use condition records in MN04 and MN05 to point to different outputs per PO type.
An even easier way would be to have different pruchasing groups for your reqs from EBP, and base the output type on purchasing group.
Regards,
Dave.

• Constraints/Output Buffer for FPGA Pins (e.g. PXI_LBLSTAR0)

Hi anybody,
is there a way to change the output options for the pins provided in the FPGA files?
For example: in the UCF file for the 8711R FPAG Board, there are constraints set for nearly any of the FPGA lines.
<snip>
NET "PXI_LBLSTAR0" IOSTANDARD = LVTTL;
NET "PXI_LBLSTAR0" DRIVE = 6;
NET "PXI_LBLSTAR0" SLOW;
<snip>
What, if i want to change the output driver to HIGH Speed?
Is there a way to do this in the LabVIEW project/VI
Thks in advance for your time.
/Tilman

Hi Tilman,
I am sorry. I asked my colleagues but it is not supported to change this ucf files.
There are several risks involved: Using this workaround will change this setting for any and all VIs compiled from this computer. This will affect any Reconfigurable I/O targets that you compile the VI for. In other words, this could cause problems if you are targetting devices other than the 7811R. There is no indication on the VI that the drive strength has been changed. Therefore, you must keep track of these settings. When changing the Driver Type to a setting other than the default, you are increasing the likelihood of cross-talk between Digital lines. Chaging other options in the toplevel_gen.ucf could cause some undesirable affects.
I hope you will get along with the default settings.
Kind Regards,
Vanessa

• Best options for uncompressed HD master?

I've just finished my first feature-length project in HDV on FCP, and I have some questions about output. In the past I've always been editing SD DV under 60 mins, so master output was always easy. But between the HDV and the 90 min. run time, things are a little more complicated.
We shot and edited in native HDV 1080/60i. We've rendered our final master sequence in HD ProRes, but I don't know where to go from here. These are my main questions:
1. My primary distribution is going to be SD DVD, but I want to keep an uncompressed HD master file backed up on multiple hard drives. What's my best output option for such a file? Can I just export a self-contained QT in sequence settings? Will that apply compression I don't want? Is there a better output option in Compressor?
2. Keep interlaced or deinterlace? Again, most people will be seeing this as an SD DVD.
3. I'd also like to get a local video outfit to make an HD tape master for more secure long-term archiving. What tape format is recommended?
4. Question I should have asked but didn't? Please, do tell.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Ken Summerall, Jr. wrote:
The absolute best quality that you are going to get is by exporting a QT movie using current settings and making it self contained. Since you shot and edited in an HDV sequence this will add no further compression (remember that HDV is already heavily compressed).
Uh-oh. That's not actually correct.
HDV is relatively unusual as shooting formats go, in that it's a GOP format, as opposed to an I-frame format. In I-frame formats, each frame of footage (or pair of fields, if you're shooting interlaced) is compressed all by itself, independently of all other frames (or field-pairs). But in a GOP format, a number of frames are compressed together — that's what "GOP" means: "group of pictures." The first frame is compressed independently, then the next frame is described in terms of what's different from the previous frame.
When you edit HDV +and then export it as HDV again,+ whether to videotape or to a Quicktime, the GOPs must be "conformed." As you edit, you make cuts that break the GOP structure, so the timeline cuts from the middle of one GOP to the middle of another without including the first frame on which that second GOP depends. So when you export or lay off, Final Cut has to go through and convert a bunch of I-frames to B- or P-frames, and convert a bunch of B- or P-frames to I-frames.
In essence, exporting or laying off HDV imposes a compression hit. You will reduce the quality of your footage.
Since the question was about the best option for mastering, HDV is +definitely not it.+ Would it be okay? That depends on the footage, and on how picky you are. But it's not the best option. The best option is to master to a (ha ha) mastering format. Uncompressed 8-bit, Uncompressed 10-bit and ProRes are good choices here.
As for tape … that's tougher. You can absolutely send an uncompressed or ProRes Quicktime file to a dubbing house and get it laid off to videotape, but the question is to what format? HDV is a poor choice, because of the aforementioned compression hit you take when conforming the GOPs. DVCPRO HD would actually be a step down for you, because it would downsample your 1440x1080 native footage (or your 1920x1080 master, if you chose to upres) to 1280x1080.
That leaves HDCAM and HDCAM SR. If you've done things like color correction or compositing in a 10-bit color space — or even long-slow dissolves to or from black, which is one of the places where 8-bit really falls apart on you — choose HDCAM SR. HDCAM is an 8-bit format only, and you'll lose color precision if you go to that format. But if you stayed 8-bit all the way through your workflow, then you can go to HDCAM without any real problems.
Note that both HDCAM and HDCAM SR +are compressed formats.+ Your only option for uncompressed HD videotape is D6, and good luck finding a Voodoo recorder nearby. But HDCAM and SR are good enough for professional mastering, so they'll surely be good enough for you as well. And they're both available in 94- and 124-minute lengths, so you can master your whole feature on a single tape.
(While you're at it, consider getting your uncompressed or ProRes master file dubbed off to a data tape format as well. You worked really hard on this project, so it makes sense to be a little paranoid about preserving the fruit of your labors.)

• IPhone4 Dock Connector Not Showing As Option For Sound Output

Hey All,
I'm using an iPhone 4 Dock Connector to output sound (via 3.5 mm cable) to a stereo. This has been working for over 5 months, but all of a sudden it doesn't show up as an option for output from the AirPlay button.
I tried a friend's 4S and it worked for him. I also cleaned out the pin connector area on the iPhone as there was a small amount of lint in there (from being in my pocket), but that didn't fix the problem either.
Any suggestions would be welcomed.
Thanks!

• What are best output options in DVDSP for playback on VGA Computer Screen?

I understand that DVDs were designed to be viewed on TV sets - not computer monitors with much higher resolution than a TV set.
However .... I'm curious what the best output options are within DVDSP3 for playback on a standard 19" VGA computer screen 1024x768 and not necessarily on a TV screen. Any ideas?
Will DVDSP3 address playback on a standard VGA computer screen any better than iDVD6? .... or are they both very much the same?
Here's my objective:
MiniDV>FCP HD >DVD SP3>DVD-R / Playback on VGA 19" Monitor only (no TV involved).
or...
MiniDV>iMovie6>iDVD6>DVD-R / Playback on VGA 19" Monitor only.
TIA
SDMacuser

George - I'm not a web designer, so I'm probably not the best person to respond but here goes anyway (FWIW):
(anywhere from 10sec to 2min) for website visitors to play (but not download). There can be multiple audios per web page.
No problem. QuickTime. X-platform and you can set whether it's downloadable or not - but that's really moot, as anything on the web can be captured, especially with the 'analog loophole' such as WireTap or Audio Hi Jack.
I need a combination of buttons from very simple round (or square 20x20 pix) to a bar style with volume control, both with the option to change the color to fit my site.
Buttons are your business - nothing to do with playback functionality. They are usually just a link to a file - your site should be set up to play anything, by anything, that's clicked on… Flash, QT whatever
a player that runs from my site and not somebody else's.
So you're hosting? I'd hate to go down that path… what if your site takes off? What if it goes down? You'd never handle the bandwidth. IMO better to buy inexpensive (but competent) hosting for $10 or so per month and avoid the headaches, and expand the hosting service as and when required.
See here for example:
http://soundpropaganda.com/blog/loudness.html
I have QT files, not downloadable (well, supposedly) from text links (check the green "Here's" links). The link method (graphic, text, whatever) is your design, not part of the playback system.
