Output presets lost in after effects cc

Yesterday i upgrade to After Effects CC 12.1, the last update, and it lost all my preferences.
Even when i click download the preferences from Creative Cloud, were i think i was saved with a copy from the early uses of CC (before the update to 12.1, on 12.0.1) it was gone.
Saad.

The After Effects CC (12.2) update fixes this.
You can migrate settings from a previous minor version of After Effects. For After Effects CC (12.2), you can migrate settings from After Effects CC (12.0) or After Effects CC (12.1).
To initiate the settings migration at any time, click the Migrate Previous Version Settings button at the bottom of the Preferences dialog box (in the General category).
When you initiate the settings migration, After Effects checks to see whether there are settings folders on the computer for 12.0 and 12.1. For each version for which a settings folder is found, After Effects presents a button with the respective version number, as well as a Do Not Migrate button. If you click one of the buttons corresponding to a previous version, then After Effects will copy and process the appropriate settings files from the previous version’s settings folder into the 12.2 settings folder. To complete the process and load the migrated settings, you need to restart After Effects, so After Effects prompts you to quit and restart.
When you start After Effects CC (12.2) for the first time with default settings, After Effects will automatically initiate the settings migration process.
Settings that are migrated include the following:
preferences
interpretation rules
workspaces
render settings templates
output module settings templates
composition settings templates
keyboard shortcuts (migrated from version 12.1, but not from version 12.0)
user scripts (i.e., scripts saved in the Scripts folder in the user’s settings folder)

  • After effects cc 2014 text presets can't import from bridge cc

I'm trying to use the presets for text animation but somehow I get the message that it doesn't support this file format. How come? and how to fix?

    > Any other ideas?
Note the last part of Rick's answer: You can still apply animation presets through the Effects & Presets panel in After Effects.
There is a bug in the After Effects CC 2014.1 (13.1) installer that causes the wrong startup script to be used. We're working on a fix for this now. In the meantime, you can just apply animation presets directly in After Effects.

  • My After Effects wont open!

It keeps saying "You have at least one output module template that refers to a missing output plug-in. Please check your output module templates

I have the CS6 Creative Suite and for some reason After Effects, Photoshop, and Premiere Pro won't open. I've never had this problem before and I'm not aware of any updates that I am missing. I'm on a Windows 7 OS. I recently took my computer to Best Buy to check the battery and when I got it back I was having issues opening the programs.
When I try to open After Effects for example it says
"After Effects warning: Unknown Exception" then
"After Effects AEGP Plug-in AEDynamic Link Server: Unknown error in Adobe Dynamic Link. (5027::12) then
"You have at least one output module template that refers to a missing output plug-in. Please check your output module templates) then
"After Effects warning: Unknown Exception" then
"After Effects can't continue unexpected failure during application startup" then
Another box comes up which says "Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Lib (I guess Runtime Library) Program C:\ Program Fi... R6025 - pure virtual function call"
I have no clue where to even check for output modules or plug-ins. Im at a lost.
When I try to open Photoshop it says "Unable to continue because of a hardware system error, but this error is unrecoverable"
Premiere Pro won't even open at all. Like period.

  • Output Modules Lost

I recently upgraded from CS3 to CS5 and I can't find the output Modules from CS3 to transfer to CS5 (the render settings are gone too). They are not in either presets folder. If I open CS3, the modules are there and I can use them but I can't find them. Spotlight can't find them either. Does anyone have any advice to help me find them?
    TIA

Output Module templates aren't saved as separate files.  (The data is embedded in your preferences file.)  You can save your custom Output Module Templates from After Effects CS3 as a .AOM file, which you can then import into After Effects CS5.  For more information, read the "Create, manage, and edit output module templates" section of the "Output modules and output module settings" article in After Effects Help.
Note that because of changes to how After Effects CS5 stores the data for certain output formats (including MPEG formats), some Output Module Templates from previous versions do not fully import into After Effects CS5.  In this case you will receive a warning when opening the .AOM file, and the format-specific settings for those templates will be reset to the default values.  You can change the template manually in CS5 to match the settings from the previous version.

  • Night vision in After Effects?/ Transferring a style from PS to AE??

    Hi,
I am just starting out using adobe software, Im currently doing a job for which I need a style/mask to make a video clip look like it was shot in night vision.
Is there any way I can do that in AE?
I have done it in photoshop so I have been trying to save it as a style and transfer it to AE but I'm not having any luck!
Can anyone shine a light on this for me?
    Cheers
    Tim

A Night Vision animation preset comes with After Effects.
Type 'night vision' into the search field in the Effects & Presets panel in After Effects.
For more information about animation presets, see the
"Animation presets" section of After Effects Help.

  • How do you fix Error Code:7 (After Effects CS5)

After a few minutes of working with any simple effects or presets in Adobe After Effects CS5 I will get this error below every time:
"Your hardware configuration does not meet minimum specifications needed to run the application. The application must close. Please visit http://www.nvidia.com/page/support.html for help. Error code: 7"
Once this pops up I have to close the program without saving. Why am i receiving this error and how can I fix it? By looking at the specs below of my laptop I can't understand how I could get an error saying that my configuration does not meet minimun specifications.
    Here are my computer specs:
    Lenovo IdeaPad Y570
    Intel i7-2670QM 2.20GHz
    8 GB RAM
    Windows 7
NVIDIA GeForce GT 555M with CUDA & dedicated 1GB RAM
    NVIDIA driver version 8.17.12.6844

Turn off your onboard intel graphics chip in the BIOS or configure your Optimus driver accordingly. Seems like AE is switching the graphics driver in the middle of things or the wrong one is used to begin with (that is the weaker intel chip). also simply updating all drivers may make the problem disappear.

  • FCE and After Effects

I'm working on a FCE project, and a friend will make an animation on After Effects for me to use in the project.
But I need to know if I will be able to open a After Effects file on FCE. Can anyone tell that?
If yes, is there any specifications I should give him to guarantee I will be able to work in the file?
If no, what program should he use? Flash? Something else?
    Thanks a lot.

A typical, safe way to output a file from After Effects for use in an NLE (or any other post-production software) is to render and export a QuickTime movie using a lossless codec, such as PNG or Animation at the highest quality settings. You can do things differently if you know more about how the movie will be used in the NLE, et cetera, but the way that I just mentioned is failsafe.
See this page for an overview of rendering and exporting.

  • Problems reinstalling after effects

so I got adobe cs3 master edition..
anyway, every program installed fine at first.. but here's the thing..
I had adobe after effects 7.0.. and a whole lot of plugins and presets.. and I tried to put the plugins and presets into adobe after effects cs3.. but I did a really bad job copying and pasting.. which totally killed the program. So.. I tried reinstalling it. It worked fine, but then got stuck on "repairing shared components".
so, I tried completely uninstalling it and then installing it again, and the same thing happens.
    Does anyone know what's wrong?
some other things (don't know if they matter):
    I have a vista laptop
I have plenty of memory left (like 88 gb)
I've waited about half an hour for it to finish "repairing shared components".. maybe it takes longer?

I have no clue what you did. It saddens me to say this, but the "Repair" function in the installer is useless, so most likely it has completely messed up everything. Therefore uninstall again and use the CS3 clean scripts before attempting a new install. Copying presets is ill-advised except for the ones you created yourself. Others from AE7 may not function at all in CS3, so there's no point in overwriting the ones the CS3 installer puts in place. As for your plugins - depending on what they are, a proper re-install of them may be required. Some plugins and plugin suites install additional files and store their paths in configuration files or the registry, so they may refuse to work without them.

if you see a dl error page, you didn't follow all 7 steps.

  • Moving After Effects Output Templates into Media Encoder

With the introduction of the CC apps, Adobe is encouraging users to export most content through the Adobe Media Encoder application. I'm happy to make the switch if it helps my overall workflow.
As part of moving over to the AME for all things in After Effects, I was hoping I could export all of my custom Output Module Templates to AME, as many of them are being used in an ongoing basis for existing projects, and I'd hate to have to configure the settings from scratch in AME.
I've been able to export the .aom file using (Save All) from AE. But haven't been successful importing those into Adobe Media Encoder as a preset.
Does anyone have a proceedure for this?
    Thanks!
    Stephen

There is no automated way to do this.
Just to be clear on what we're encouraging:
We are encouraging you to move all of your H.264, MPEG-2, and Flash Video output to Adobe Media Encoder. In other words, you should be creating files intended for distribution (for playback on the web, mobile devices, or television) using Adobe Media Encoder.
The After Effects render queue is still the right tool for creating image sequences and other outputs that serve as intermediate files to be exchanged between post-production applications, for mastering, for archiving, and other purposes that don't require encoding to a highly compressed format for playback/delivery.

  • After Effects warning: Couldn't open Quicktime video output component????

    Hello,
I was wondering why this warning is coming up every time I open After Effects-
(After Effects warning: Couldn't open Quicktime video output component.)
It also reappears every time I go to a different program then back into After Effects.
    I am currently on a-
    MacBook Pro running OS 10.5.5
2.6 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    4 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
    After Effects CS3
    Quicktime 7.5.5
    GeForce 8600M GT
2 external storage drives (Western Digital, Lacie)
    Matrox MX02
I just upgraded quicktime and this started appearing.
    ANY IDEAS.

    Sorry,
Here;s another. I have Quicktime Pro installed. I have CS3 installed. I also have AE v7 which runs a few plugins I am still thinking work in v7. CS3 runs OK but in version 7 it gives me the "Couldn't open Quicktime Video Output Component " notice. I had a client working in v7 so I tried to work in v7, it was a bad idea. I lost days of work and finally just went to CS3 to get the job done but couldn't use one anothers files between versions.
What can I do to get the AE v7 Couldn't open Quicktime video output component fixed. Make it simple if you can... I'm an artist.
    Thanks

  • Presets After Effects Mac?

Where is the folder i can install presets for mac?
    I use CS4 AE
I can't find anything on the internet.
And can you install windows presets?

    There is no preset folder:...
Im plugins is no folder presets and in the normal application folder of course also not.
If you don't see a Presets folder there, then something is wrong with your installation.
    > Where is the folder i can install presets for mac?
Assuming that you're referring to animation presets (as opposed to other kids of presets like, say, output module presets)...
See the first paragraph of "Downloading, installing, and moving animation presets":
"The animation presets that are installed with After Effects are in the Presets folder located in the Program Files\Adobe\Adobe After Effects CS4\Support Files (Windows) or Applications/Adobe After Effects CS4 (Mac OS) folder. Animation presets that you create are saved by default in the Presets folder located in My Documents\Adobe\After Effects CS4 (Windows) or Documents/Adobe/After Effects CS4 (Mac OS).   You can add a single new animation preset or an entire folder of new animation presets to either of the Presets folders."
    > I can't find anything on the internet.
I'm curious where you were looking. It's my job to make sure that you can find information like this, so I'd like to know what you tried.
    > And can you install windows presets?
Animation presets are not specific to an operating system.

  • Question from the After Effects team about audio output

When you render and export a composition from After Effects that does not have audio content, do you ever enable audio output intentionally (thus creating an empty audio track in the output file)?
If so, why, and what formats do you use?
We're in the process of making some improvements to how audio is handled, and we want to make sure that we haven't broken any common workflows.
(Note: If you're not sure about how to enable audio output, see this page: "FAQ: Why is there no sound (audio) in my output file?" )

For me, I can't think of a common use-case where that would be necessary. I suppose there are times when you want a file to conform to an existing structure, such as when you want to replace media in Premiere, and the new file needs to have the same number of audio tracks as the old file (which you may not have created). Even though that hardly ever happens (I remember replacing proxies when CS3 got the ability to import P2 footage... it was... not very cooperative), I wouldn't want to lose the ability to arbitrarily export an empty audio track, because I'm sure there are other edge cases which I can't think of. But, I wouldn't mind losing it as a default behavior.
It sounds like what you're hinting at is a feature where the render module detects whether there is any audio in the comp before committing to some kind of default audio track export setting. If there is no audio in the comp (or if all the audio in a comp is disabled), it wouldn't export an audio track.
As long as there is a setting to override this behavior (i.e.: enabled / if detected / disabled) that can be built into an export preset, I'd love such a feature.
I, too, often forget to turn on audio export, because most of my comps don't use audio (I sync audio in Premiere, usually) and I don't like having empty audio tracks I don't need. But in the rare cases I do need audio, it's really annoying to go back and re-export the audio because I forgot to turn it on (similar to forgetting to enable an alpha channel, which makes me feel really stupid).

  • After Effects CC Output Modules on Render Only Machines

Hi there, I'm having an issue with custom Output Module Templates and my renderfarm:
After Effects CC 12.0.0.404 (showing as up to date in Creative Cloud)
Mac OS X 10.8.4 (Latest Mountain Lion version)
Mac Pro 2.93 GHz 8-Core, Radeon 5870, 32GB RAM and with Blackmagic Decklink Extreme 3D+
Remote Machines (there are four) are Mac Pros as well (Quad-core, running 10.7.2 with 16GB RAM), using the ae_render_only_node.txt file in their user Documents folder.
    The exact error:
aerender ERROR: No output module template was found with the given name.
I am trying to get a renderfarm working with After Effects CC (see exact version above). Unfortunately, I need custom output modules and I can't seem to get the render slaves to recognize them. I found older threads on this exact issue, but no solution was found.
I am using commandline aerender in OS X terminal to start a render with a basic test scene.
To simplify things, I have tried testing this on one render slave machine at a time... Same result everywhere.
    Here's what I've tried:
I exported a .aom file from my main machine (where I have my desired custom Output Modules) and attempted to bring it in on the render slaves. However, because the render slaves are render only, (they have ae_render_only_node.txt in their Documents folder), the ability to import Output Modules is disabled in After Effects (it opens as the After Effects Render Engine, and the Edit>Templates menu is greyed out).
Next, I thought I'd try copying the main machine's /Users/(user)/Library/Preferences/Adobe/After Effects/12.0 folder over to the render slaves, thinking that would get whatever preference file to them that's needed to define the output modules. No luck. Launched After Effects (which loads as After Effects Render Engine) and reset my disk cache preferences (so they weren't still the main machine's). Tried aerender again... no luck. Same error:
aerender ERROR: No output module template was found with the given name.
After that, I thought it would be a good idea to sign out of Adobe Creative Cloud on the main machine, and try logging into the render slave machine with my full UserID and Password and temporarily remove the ae_render_only_node.txt file. Then, I'd import the .aom file in the full version of AE... I tried this and success! The renders work... they find the Output Modules no problem. Only issue is, as soon as I sign out, and switch to using the ae_render_only_node.txt file, the Output Modules are not found. Not sure what's going on-- if the Output Modules are being disabled by the ae_render_only_node.txt file? Or maybe signing out of my Adobe ID is removing the preferences that determine Output Modules? Don't know where the Output Module preferences are stored to be able to tell.
Next attempt: I thought I'd try syncing my preferences with Creative Cloud. I made sure to check After Effects Sync Preferences to ensure that Output Modules are set to sync. I did a sync where I uploaded my preferences from the main machine. Then, on the render slaves, I ran Sync Preferences, and chose to download preferences. Works when signed in, but not when used as a render only node. When it's a render only node, it still prompts me to Download the Sync Preferences and Quit the Application, which I do, but nothing seems to happen. I try aerender again, and still the same error:
aerender ERROR: No output module template was found with the given name.
I can't seem to find any info on where Output Modules are actually stored (apparently they're not anywhere in the User/Library/Preferences/Adobe/After Effects/ folder?). Are render only nodes not allowed to have custom Output Modules? Not even for something as simple as the Multi-Machine Sequence with a post-render action of Set Proxy enabled?
    Any help is greatly appreciated!
    Thank You.

I've verified this problem and filed a bug. Sorry about the hiccup.
I've trying to pin down why this happens, and while I don't have a full explanation yet I think I've stumbled onto a workaround:
Trash the prefs on the render machine.
    Enable the ae_render_only_node.txt file.
Launch AE and then quit. <- This is a critical step. More on this later.
    Disable ae_render_only_node.txt file.
    Launch AE.
    Add your Output Module template.
    Quit AE.
    Enable the ae_render_only_node.txt file.
After you do this, I highly recommend making a backup copy of the Adobe After Effects 12.0 Prefs-indep-output.txt file. Just in case. I've had the failure reappear.
Now test with aerender and let me know if that works. It has on my machine.
Why does this matter? When you run AE with the ae_render_only_node.txt file enabled, it appears to add a new section to the preferences: "Output Module Preference Section v28-TRIAL". It's the TRIAL part that is important. Without it, AE doesn't seem to be able to keep track of the OM's when in render_only_node mode. And if you disable the ae_render_only_node.txt file, AE has a tendency to destroy the TRIAL section (I'm still tracing why that happens).
Now, should this not work for you, I recommend you work around the problem by adding your comps to the render queue in each project. When you do that, and change your aerender flags appropriately, you can render to your desired settings without specifying OMtemplate parameter.
    > I can't seem to find any info on where Output Modules are actually stored (apparently they're not anywhere in the User/Library/Preferences/Adobe/After Effects/ folder?).
You probably already discovered this. In After Effects CC the OM data is stored in the Adobe After Effects 12.0 Prefs-indep-output.txt file. In older versions of AE, a single pref file such as Adobe After Effects 11.0-x64 Prefs.txt holds all of this data.
Let me know if that workaround does the trick for you. If I get more information on the cause of the problem I'll update you.
