Output Quicktime DV to HDMI/HDTV?

Looking for suggestions on how best to get an HDTV output from a mac to view Logic's quicktime movies on an HDTV monitor. Apparently there are cables for about $12 that translate DVI to HDMI; anybody going this route? I'm actually thinking about using my old Dual 867 G4 running ProTools slaved to MTC as the video player to take a load off my Dual 2Ghz G5; I'm already running dual monitors (24" & 20") just for Logic and would think that adding something like an HDMI PCI card would really bog things down. I've been using a firewire/S-video converter that looks pretty bad, would much prefer to use the HDMI input on my new screen...

Very interesting reading. I think I would keep that PCI card
out of the G5 as I believe you would be correct in it slowing
things down. Logic has enough excuses, dont give it another
one.

  • Output Quicktime to HDTV

I am about to upgrade to a new Mac Pro and was curious about the current methods for outputting a Quicktime movie that I am working with in Logic to an external HDTV?
The HDTV feed would be for clients to view the commercial/film while I work in Logic. It doesn't doesn't need to be stellar quality or resolution (although I'm curious about how taxing it would be to the system if the Quicktime were at a high resolution). Most of the files I work with are posted by editors and are low rez.

one way to accomplish this is to use the DVI output from your video card with an adapter to the HDTV. there is an otion in the video project settings to output the video to "digital cinema desktop" (if you have all the components of Logic Stidio installed) This assumes that you wil only use one monitor for Logic and the second is for video display. another way is to use a firewire video output device to send the signal to the HDTV. It would be low res, but it would gve you a third output option. This is also available in the video project settings.
A quick question for you. yours is the first post I've sen related to video. I am trying to work with video on a project in Logic Pro 8. If I only import the video it seems to work okay, when I import and use the audio from the video the whole system slows to a crawl. Any experience like this? any hints for working with video in Logic 8? I am using a macbook 2gig dual core intel machine with 1 gig RAM. thanks

  • Play my video in iTunes from iMac into HDMI HDTV

I am trying to display my own video on a HDTV from iTunes on my iMac. Trying to output through thunderport w/ mini displayport to HDMI cable.
    Thanx in advance

So far so good. It sounds like you have the correct hardware and adapters to connect to your TV.
Open the System Preferences and click on the Displays settings. If you are trying to display the same image on both the iMac and your TV then click on the 'Arrangement' tab within the display preferance pane, and then check the 'Mirror Displays' check box.
If you are experiencing problems with your setup then please let us know that is not working correctly. Are you seeing anything on your HDTV? Does the Display preference pane show that both your iMac and HDTV displays are recognized?

  • No sound output on installing a hdmi support graphics card on HP Compaq dc5800 Small Form Factor

when i inserted a HDMI support graphics card on g-force nvidia on my HP Compaq dc5800 Small Form Factor no audio output was availabe i need a support for this problem

You will have to switch the sound Playback from Speakers to the Digital Audio output.
Disconnect the speakers from the default output at the rear of your PC.  Sound will be output through the HDMI cable to the device it is connected to if the video device has HDMI sound capability.  If you have it connected to an HDTV it should not be an issue. All you will have to do is use the TV's menu to accept the computer input instead of cable.

  • Output not available on HDMI port

The above notebook is with AMD Phenom P960 process & with AMD M880G ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4250 display adaptor.
The display driver is ver 8.900.7.1000 dated 28/09/2011.
Before I was able to plug in the HDMI cable to my TV & extend my display.
Currently, I am unable to extend my display. My TV detects the source, but when I try to output the display, it is not able to output it to the TV. It outputs it only to the VGA port.
I have tried changing the HDMI cAbles as well as different monitors. The story is still the same.
I have disabled the drivers & inmstalled them again still no solution. I deleted the drivers & visited teh AMD site to auto detect & recommend the driver. This too gave no results.
    Please advise?

    Good Morning @Solutiongetter ,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
It is a wonderful place to find answers and suggestions!
For you to have the best experience in the HP forum I would like to direct your attention to the HP Forums Guide Learn How to Post and More
I grasp that you are unable to get your TV recognized when connected by HDMI but it was working previously.  You have updated the graphic drivers from the AMD site but no change.
Here is a link to the recommended software and drivers HP Pavilion g6-1a44ca Notebook PC Drivers.  Please note that the recommended drivers are not the same versions as the one you have currently installed.
I suggest you delete( not uninstall) the current driver and install the recommended driver.  If you were to just uninstall the driver, when you restarted it would automatically apply the latest driver.
When you download drivers from the manuafacturer's site as they have been untested the results are unknown and may or may not function correctly.  OEM's can and do alter drivers to perform with their system.

Please note there is also a bios update. If you have not done that yet, I suggest trying that first as in can make a difference.

  • 13" Macbook + DVI-HDMI + HDTV Problem

    Hello,
I recently bought myself a 13" macbook, which I'm now in love with!
so here's my question, I have a Mini Dvi to Dvi Adaptor hooked up to my macbook and a DVI to HDMI cable running to my HDTV (32") into the HDMI Input (on the tv.) When I goto plug it in ( either tv first or macbook first) My macbook screen turns to this hazy blue screen (looks just like the boot up screen) and Then my macbook freezes up. I've tried shutting down my macbook plugging everything in and then booting up, but still no luck it does the same thing. I just got my mac on sunday straight from apple.com .
any suggestion? I've heard this is a typical issue.
    Thanks
    Aj

no luck, I made sure the cables were super tight and plugged in properly. my tv says "no signal"
and my macbook freezes up with the blue screen.
This time I tried it two different ways, I shut down my mac book and made sure my tv was off. Turned on my tv switched it to HDMI IMPUT 1 and tightly plugged in my cables. then turned on my macbook.
After seeing the booting screen ( little apple picture and music) a light blue screen (that normally appears durning booting) appears and it freezes on that blue screen. then I tried leaving my mac book on and tv turned on to HDMI Input one and plugging it in, this time I'm able to see my desktop ( on my mac book, tv still says no signal) and I get this fogginess that appears over the screen. I can move my mouse but everything else will not respond.
any help or suggestion would be super!
    Thanks guys (and or gals)

  • How can I configure my new Mac Pro to output the timeline via HDMI

How can I configure my new Mac Pro to output the timeline in FCP 7 (yes, I have X, but I'm using 7 right now). I have two monitors running from TB2, but want to have the third for a client monitor.
If I use all three via TB2, it's literally three monitors, and I want to edit on my CineDisplay. I only want the client to see the timeline video on the third monitor. When I hook up HDMI I get no signal, in fact, I can't have the HDMI cable hooked up for TB2 to work with the third.

If you use all ThunderBolt displays, or stick with DisplayPort and Mini DisplayPort (free conversion between the two with only a cheap cable) you can have up to six displays.
If you attach "legacy" displays with "any-old adapter", you can have up to two, and the built-in HDMI counts as one if you use it.
    Any more requires ACTIVE Adapters.
The US$100 Apple ACTIVE Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI adapter works in every case, even displays over 1920 wide.
StarTech and Accell make US$35 ACTIVE adpters that work for displays up to 1920 wide.

  • How to get sound output to TV via HDMI on my Equium

I've connected to TV via HDMI to view downloaded BBC content.
How can I get the sound?

    Hi Misterg,
Normally if your notebook connect to TV the sound will automatically switched to TV as the picture. If I connect the notebook to TV I always have sound without changing some settings.
If not you have to set the Digital output device as default device. I have made a screenshot of this:

  • Is it possible to set the sound output to Firewire and HDMI at the same time?

I would like to use Amarra for playing music thru the Firewire to a DAC and I would like the family to be able to use the MacMini for streaming sources thru the HDMI without having to change any settings every time. I'm running 10.8. Is that possible thru any special settings or separate software?
    Thanks in advance
    Harry

The Apple Support Communities are an international user to user technical support forum. As a man from Mexico, Spanish is my native tongue. I do not speak English very well, however, I do write in English with the aid of the Mac OS X spelling and grammar checks. I also live in a culture perhaps very very different from your own. When offering advice in the ASC, my comments are not meant to be anything more than helpful and certainly not to be taken as insults.
Do some web searches for using software called Soundflower in conjunction with other 3rd party audio software to set up your own audio input and output sources.
That is all I know about it. I have read a few ideas for doing such things over the years.

  • Outputting Multichannel sound through HDMI

I've just got one of the new Mac Minis with an HDMI connector that I'd like to connect via a home theatre amp to be able to drive a 7.1 speaker system . I'm using a Onkyo TX-SR576, and the Audio Midi Setup program finds the HDMI device. It has the source listed as TX-SR576, and I can select the format (up to 192 kHz) and up to 8channels of 24 bit.
The problem is that I can't get any sound to go through. The Digital Optical link is working fine, but it's standard stereo.
Has anyone else managed to get 7.1 channel from a Minimac via HDMI? If so, what home theatre amplifiers work? Is there a restriction on which amplifiers can handle the 8 channel audio?

I think my problem is very similar.
I am not getting the option to select multichannel digital audio output for my HDMI connection in "Audio Devices" window of "Audio MIDI Setup."
I'm using the "Apple recommended" Griffin Video Display Converter for HDMI via Mini DIsplayPort with my mid-2010 MBP.
It successfully outputs digital STEREO audio which plays on the speakers of my LG TV (a 42LD520). That's all fine and nice. But, I'm trying to take advantage of the LG TV's digital audio passthrough capability (to pass-through multichannel digital audio) and am having problems.
Here's the setup I CANNOT get to work:
    1) Connect my new mid-2010 Macbook Pro to my LG TV (42LD520) via HDMI using the Griffin Video Display Converter.
    2) The LG TV (serving as a digital audio passthrough) is connected via TOSLINK optical audio output to my surround receiver (Sony BDV-E570... which, BTW only accepts digital audio input by optical or coax, NO HDMI)
    3) The Sony receiver decodes the multichannel digital audio (Dolby Digital, DTS, whatever), and everyone lives happily ever after.
In fact, I've SUCCESSFULLY gotten this exact setup to work with a Roku player: the Roku is connected via HDMI to the TV, and the LG TV outputs (passes-through) the digital audio via optical TOSLINK to my Sony surround system (BDV-E570), which decodes and plays back the multichannel DD/DTS. Yippee. Straightforward. Clean.
But, *DESPITE THE FACT MY LG TV ACCEPTS MULTICHANNEL DIGITAL AUDIO VIA HDMI*, OS X will NOT give me the option of outputting multichannel audio through the Griffin adapter to the TV via HDMI. I cannot select any multichannel output in "Audio Device Setup" for the connected HDMI. Why?
I SUSPECT this is because OS X, after ID'ing the TV through EDID lookup, sees my LG TV as ONLY compatible to accept HDMI audio as 2-channel digital, so it doesn't give the multichannel output option--- (this, of course, totally ignores the purposeful use of the TV's digital audio passthrough).
IF ONLY I could force OS X to override this "unnecessary" restriction and output multichannel audio through the Griffin adapter to the TV via HDMI. If I could, I bet this would all work.
I REFUSE to run 2 wires and run a separate audio output from the MBP with one of those stupid USB+3.5MM TOSLINK adapters. It's dirty and shouldn't be necessary. The HDMI wire carries it all-- that's the point.
So, in short, Is there a way to force OS X to output multichannel digital audio over HDMI?
If so, I think it'd work. Thanks for any help!

  • Trying to output Quicktime movies from shake scripts only geting iffs

I am trying to batch render shake scripts using Qmaster. My quickcluster is working fine except I am getting individual iffs instead of a single Quicktime movie. My fileout node is set to Quicktime output. What I am missing?
    Thanks.

Thanks for the fast reply. I checked my file out nodes and all of them end with .mov
For example: New Teaser (Shake) New Teaser Siren 1_2.mov
When I submit a batch, Qmaster creates individual iffs and also three scripts each with the proper filename, but no Quicktime movie

  • Recent Lion update -- HDMI/HDTV problems

After the recent Lion update, my MBP can't communicate with my HDTV, which was possible before updating OS.
There's just a black screen on my tv, with a small text: "Outside area".
I've tried changing everything on the tv and finding the HDTV on my MBP, but it won't work.
I haven't tried SwitchResx, since it worked without this program before.
I've searched the web alot, and it seems Macs generally have a problem with HDMI.
    Any suggestions?

Put in your password and press 'return'.
Wait till it finishes, it might take a while. Restart the computer and test.
