Output resolution looks pixelated, project looks fine + more Qs :)

captivate 4.0.0
hi all,
I've just downloaded the latest captivate 4 as a trial and am starting work on a new project. Sorry if these things have been asked but I looked around and couldnt find anything.
I'm setting up a project template with a few standard interlude screens between the videos, while looking at them in Captivate in Edit View they look fine, crisp text, images look fine etc...
but when I preview, and output (in high quality flash 8 min) the text looks more bold, less clear slightly pixelated and image start to appear a bit fuzzy. Is there something I'm missing? my resolution for the cap videos is set at 1010x615 and I'm viewing it on dual monitors and both are looking ugly....
any ideas?
alos another quick Q, if I create a design template and base a project off it, then update said template, will the project update with the new stuff when I re-open it?
I expect to be asking a lot more questions over the next week or so as im not up to scratch on captivate at all.....thanks!!!!!!!

Hi there
Are you playing back at the same identical size as you recorded? If not, things may not look as expected. Captivate works best if you record and play back at the same resolution.
Cheers... Rick

  • Monitor has weird, pixelated colors, but external monitor looks fine

    I have a MacBook Pro. It is a couple of years old. Recently the monitor started fritzing out. At first it would happen only happen when I ran windows through boot camp. A couple of days later, it began happening in os x too.The screen seems to be operating on a reduced amount of colors, a preponderance of green and everything is pixelated. There are blobby shaped circles of rainbow all over the desktop. Windows on top of the desktop look better, but still way too green and pixelated. All parts of the screen are equally bad. I tried changing all the settings in display. Also ran disc utility. The display on the external monitor looks fine. Any ideas on how I can fix this?

    Some MBP have bad nVidea graphics chips that can do wheat you describe, except it usually affects an external monitor as well. It's covered by a warranty extension program here:

  • Open images in the Photoshop window look pixelated, but same images in Acrobat or viewer look fine. Help in resolving? Link to screenshots.

    Some files and images I open in the Photoshop window look pixelated or choppy, but when I open in Acrobat or viewer they look fine. This just started about two weeks ago. I reset my settings, and all of the the help topics come up for blurry images/re-sizing. I have had this problem with .tiff, jpg, and pdf files.
    Thank you!!

    That black degradation in the background at the top looks like an old ATI driver bug where if for a given pixel the red channel reaches zero all three colors of the pixel would go black.  I think that was a couple of years ago we were seeing that.
    See if AMD has released newer drivers for your FirePro card.

  • When using Final Cut Express, the video in the Viewer window looks fine, but when I insert the video into the Canvas Timeline it appears to lose resolution, and look fuzzy and blurry. Are there preferences or settings for the Timeline that cause this?

    When using Final Cut Express, the video in the Viewer window looks fine, but when I insert the video into the Canvas Timeline it appears to lose resolution, and look fuzzy and blurry. Are there preferences or settings for the Timeline that cause this?

    Thanks David. I had to convert the mts file to Quick Time (using AunSoft Conversion software) before I could import it into Final Cut Express. And I made sure I kept the size of movie (720 X 480 with letterbox) to compliment what I set my Panaconic AVCCAM video recorder at (720/60). Even after I fully render it, it still looks fuzzy in the Canvas window at the right that plays what I have editing down in the Timeline. A friend that edits some using Final Cut Pro helped me to narrow things down to this problem. This is also wierd. If my Viewer window at the left is set to 200% to get the person's head the same size in the Canvas window at the right we needed to put it to 400%. Does this make any sense. We think we need to control the Time line resolution somehow but cannot find any options from my manual, or the help, or in the various drop down menus. Do you have any clue? What is going on?

    Because something is wrong.
    You will need to troubleshoot to find out what needs to be fixed.
    One of these suggestions may resolve your trouble.
    FaceTime (and other video) quality problems can be caused by problems at either end of the connection.  Unless your video callers' FaceTime connections work properly with everyone else but you, both parities to the video call should consider these possibilities.
    (1) Restart your iPad and test again. Sometimes a simple restart fixes things.
    (2) Use a fast broadband internet connection for best possible FaceTime video.
    Broadband speed matters at BOTH ends, so you use something like http://speedtest.net/ to test both ends of your video connections.
    Speeds less than 300 Kbps (up and down) at both ends are unlikely to give best results.
    (3) Try from a different wi-fi connection.
    If the problem is ONLY at your current location, restarting your internet connection may help.  Shut down your iPad or turn Airplane Mode "on".  Then check your cable connections, restart your modem and wireless access point, reconnect iPad to the wi-fi, and test again.
    If the problem remains but ONLY at your current location, there may be a problem with your internet service.  Contact your ISP for help.
    (4) Always use as much light as possible for best images (including video) from your iPad.

  • Since I have installed iOS 6.1.3 on my iPhone 5 I have sometimes problems to start a phone call. Everything looks fine, but no ring tone... A workaround is to stop phone app in the multitasking bar. But this is more than inconvenient ;-) Any solution?

    In this cases everything looks fine, but no ring tone is there and after sometimes the phone informs me that no connection can be estabilished (its a German phone, therefore I am not sure about the message in English systems). A workaround is to stop the telephone app in the multitasking bar (double click on home button, hold the app symbol pressed for some seconds, close app). Next several call work after this.
    I am not sure if an incomming call would work in this mode...
    Faces anybody the same problems or has solution for it?

    Basic troubleshooting
    Restart
    Reset
    Restore with backup
    restore as new if required

  • Static image looks fine in media pane but renders with problems

    I have a project in which I am placing a few static JPGs over the video portion for a few seconds at a time here and there to illustrate certain things a speaker is touching on. The JPGs are usually not quite big enough to cover the entire frame of the media pane, so I end up having to resize them and make them bigger to either cover the rest of the video that’s still showing, or to effectively ‘crop out’ a portion of the JPG that I don’t want to see in the final output.
    Everything looks fine in the media pane. The problem arises when I output the final video to FLV. Some of the JPGs look fine – just as they did in the media pane preview. But a lot of them end up showing portions that I had cropped out, or even portions of the video that I know were covered up. It appears completely random. And when I re-export and try again, sometimes the problem disappears.
    Windows XP SP3
    Adobe Premiere Elements 9.0
    Export format: FLV

    One JPG sample is 960x720 pixels.
    The Project Preset Frame Size is 1280x720 pixels.
    For this particular sample, I stretch the JPG so that the text at the bottom of it falls below the media pane (since both the JPG and the project have the same pixel height). It becomes a little more pixelated, but that's fine. Sometimes it does get cropped out of the final FLV, sometimes it doesn't...

  • Page looks fine in browser, but layout completely messed up in DW

    I created a 2 column page in DW and it looks fine in my
    browser, even at different resolutions and text sizes. However,
    whenever I look at it in DW, the right column drops under the left
    column. It basically looks like a mess, and the person who will be
    adding content will freak out. How can I fix this?

    Never mind. I fixed it.

    I made an iMovie, 6.0.3 using music from iTunes and photos from the Internet. It looked fine on iMovie, but when I uploaded it to youtube, some of the photo near the beginning were corrupted on youtube. I tried a different photo, and the corruption took place at the same moment of the video. How do I prepare the video for export to get it ready for youtube? I wasn't sure whether to clik web or web streaming. Am I supposed to clik Quick Time after I clik Share?

    I unfortunately cannot remember where I got the 'trrndlines' plugin... I assume that it must have been from CFX (as it is located under /Users/Dom/Library/iMovie/Plug-ins/cfx/XXXtrrndlines.bundle).
    As for what it does, I also do not know, as I do not think I ever used it in my previous video projects.
    At this stage, I think I just need to uninstall it so that iMovie doesnt try to use it.
    Do you know how to uninstall a CFX plugin in iMovie?
    NOTE: I have re-installed iMovie 6.0.4 (instead of iMovie 6.0.3), but still encounter the same issue.

    Hi
    The value of the Channel Strip volume etc is not stored within the C Strip setting, as you have discovered.
    If you really wanted, you could add a Gain plug to the strip, with it set to give the correct output level with the Fader set to 0
    (Or just set the fader manually in MS)

  • Customer's PDFs look fine until "white space" is cut off

    We've got a commercial customer using InDesign CS2 and Distiller 7 that is having issues with the bottoms of their pages getting cut off when our RIPs (ECRM) delete the "white space" around their pages. In some cases (but not all), removing the white space also seems to be taking off the bottom two or three rows of pixels.
    The PDFs look fine when they arrive, but once the RIPs get them, the bottom of the page gets cut off (sometimes).
    I can actually see which pages are going to cut off by using the Acrobat crop command and telling it to "Remove White Margins."
    They're the only customers we have (and we have dozens) that are having this problem. What can I do to help them fix it?
    Here is the file as they've sent it. Standard white margin around the page and no oddball crop or art boxes.
    When I check the "Remove White Margins" box, however, this is what happens (and it appears that's what our RIPs are doing, too, as the results from the RIPs mirror this.
    It's difficult to see in the small preview here, but Acrobat is now cropping off the bottom of the image (not just white space). Question is, how do we stop Acrobat from identifying this text/image as white space and allowing it to be removed?

    I decided to take Jerrold's advice and converted the pdf to a jpeg to see if borderless printing was possible with a picture. Before printing I selected 'Scale to Fit' then 'Fill Entire Paper' and it worked! It printed the entire page including the 1cm at the bottom that was previously cut off.
    So bascially with this HP printer if I want to print PDF's without leaving a 1cm gap at the bottom of the page, I first need to open the PDF in Preview, Save as jpeg, then print using the settings above.
    A little annoying but at least it's a solution! Thanks everyone for your help!

  • PDF file looks fine on the monitor, but paths bond in print in both PS and non-PS printers.

    Hi,
    I have a printing from Illustrator PDF problem. I've got Illy CS4 in which I have a rather huge file with a map and I'm tring to print pieces of the map. The PDF looks fine on the screen, but there are straigt lines on the print leading from one end to the other of two longest paths in the file.
    The problem occurs when saving through Scripts to PDF, Scripts to Poscript in Illustrator CS4 (with all updates) and CS5.1. I also went to a friend who is using CS5 and a PDF made with it also had paths bonded. The problem doesn't occur when saving the file to a low version of Illy, opening it in Corel X4 and printing from a PDF made in Corel. Funny enough I also made a multipage A3+ print of an older version of the file and two of the lines showed up on the first artboard, none on the middle one and only one line in the third one (see the photo below).
    Guys at the printers and more advanced Illustrator users I've asked for help said the've never seen anything like this and have no idea what the problem is. Accually, anyone I know hasn't got a clue of what the problem might be.

    Any ideas of what I can do to print this properly? I'm pretty far from being an Illustrator expert and I ran out of ideas for fixing this and would really appreciate help...

    Hi Scott,
    Thanks for your reply. Print screen of the image I'm supposed to be getting in print, that is my PDF: http://imageshack.us/f/692/printscreenu.jpg/
    In the first jpg below are the only lines which are supposed to be printed (marked in red). The problem is that apart of what I'm supposed to be getting in print (print screen of the pdf above), I'm getting the lines I've marked in yellow in the second jpg below and which are not drawn in my .ai file neither in PDF. They show up in print only.

  • My RAW files look fine on my camera but turn darker with a purple tint on Photoshop and Bridge

    I took some pictures at a gig last night, the lighting was quite good for a change and I was really pleased with how they turned out. The lighting at the gig gave all the photographs a red tint which I don't like but they were all bright enough. As soon as I opened them up in Adobe Bridge they all looked fine one minute but then gradually started to change to a much darker purple colour! I opened them up in Photoshop and they were the same. I then put the card back in my camera and they were fine again, brighter and more detailed with a red tint. When I opened them up in Bridge again they were dark! Any suggestions on why this is happening?

    Here is what we're talking about:
    In another raw converter, RawTherapee, the image is almost entirely magenta:
    Likewise in a raw-analysis program called RawDigger:
    Finally, in Canon's DPP software we can see the image is using the Portrait Picture Style:
    But if we change the Picture Style to Standard, then the lighting appears to be more magenta, again:
    Which is especially apparent if we brighten things a little:
    So my analysis would be that the Adobe Standard was a reasonable rendering of the raw data and camera white-balance, it's just that the camera was set to some non-standard settings, so corresponding adjustments needed to be made in Adobe software to match.

    Alvast hartelijk dank voor de tips, de voorgestelde wijzegingen staan nu online. Maandag kijk ik hier nog verder naar, nu heb ik nog wat weibg marge links en rechts en staat het submenu nog iets te ver weg.

  • Page looks funny in IE, looks fine in Chrome, Firefox, Safari

    Hi Everyone,
    Any advice would be greatly appreciated. This page looks fine in Firefox, Safari, and Chrome, but the formatting gets screwed up in Internet Exploder. Since I'm on a mac, checking is rather difficult for me. Aside from fixes to the code to get this to display properly, does anyone have any advice as to how to check stuff in IE from a mac, aside from 1) buying a PC or 2) asking PC friends to take screen shots? Here's the link:
    http://www.sarahegeller.com/suggested.html
    Thanks,
    Nick

    Ok, that is weird.  It seems to only be altering IE 8.  I did a screenshot test of IE 7 and looked at it in 9 and it doesn't seem to be affected.
    I had run your page through the validator before and only came up with unnecessary code for tracing and missing alt tags.  Here is the block of code that first seems to be affected:
    <td valign="top" class="style9"><span class="style12">Astor Piazzolla (Arg.)<br />
    Alberto Ginastera (Arg.)<br />
    Camargo Guarnieri (Brazil)<br />
    Juan Orrego-Salas (Chile)<br />
    Paquito D’Rivera (Cuba)<br />
    Joaquín Nin (Cuba)<br />
    Carlos Chavez (Mex.)<br />
    <br />
    Manuel Ponce (Mex.)<br />
    <br />
    Silvestre Revueltas (Mex.) <br />
    Ricardo Lorenz (Venezuela)<br />
    Manuel de Falla (Spain)/ Arr. Kochanski<br />
    Xavier Montsalvatge (Spain)</span></td>
    I then look at "class='style9'" and "class="style12" right after that:
    .style12 {     font-size: 8pt;
         font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;
         line-height: 12pt;
         background-color: #FFFFFF;
         color: #000000;
         font-weight: normal;
    .style9 {font-size: 9pt;
         font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;
         font-weight: bolder;
         color: #0099FF;
         text-align: right;
    This tells me that you are not very familiar with code because DW created 2 classes named "style#".  As you can see, both classes are defined, and both want different things, one is 9pt the other 8, one is normal font-weight, the other is bold, but both are defined on the same element.  I see a pattern of this throughout your page which leads to apdivs that don't seem to have a purpose and a long line of <br /> tags to insert line breaks and create spacing instead of using margins and padding.  Most here will argue that while DW is a great tool, a knowledge of HTML & CSS will always be better.  Overall, I don't see any need for anything more complex than 3 styles; one for blue header, one for bold header and one for body text.  Then insert your header 1, header 2, body text, and then put the following content inside table and repeat.
    Based on what is there, in order to solve the problem efficiently, I would recommend starting at your template file (assuming you are using one, if not you should look at it for this type of layout).  Then re-layout the body content on the page with the template in tact using the suggestions above.  I would also recommend giving the below tutorial a quick read through in case some of the CSS comments I made did not make sense.
