Output Resolution Settings

I recently installed a Canon MP495 series printer on my iMac and when I try to print anything from Pages I get the following error message:-
The Output Resolution option 600 x 600 dpi is not available hen Output Resolution is set to 300 x 300 dpi
If I ignore the message the printed item is produced in a very small font size.
This problem does not occur with Word for Mac which makes me suspect Pages.
Can anyone help please?

Look through your Printer options in the Print dialog and also I'd check with Canon.
It sounds to me like a printer driver issue, output is mostly generic from OSX which uses the UNIX CUPS engine to output postscript to printers.
Probably Canon has done something quirky. Word probably uses Microsoft code for output which happens to match whatever Canon has done for Windows.

Halftones and resolution settings - why and reasons?

I am taking continuous tone images, color and B&W, converting to greyscale then halftone dots so that the images will print better via desktop laser printer of some dpi value output.
Photoshop applies a Bitmap resolution, then asks for and 'Output' resolution.
The dot style menu then asks for a dot resolution value.
I understand that the smaller dpi produces a more contrasty, newspaper type image. Conversley, a higher dpi will allow for a better gradation of tonality, but may block up depending on the reproduction method.
Do these two resolution values correlate?
Are you resampling the Bitmap resolution when you input a different value?
Will a higher Bitmap resolution provide greater tonal range if using a higher dpi?
Since the printer output will define how well a particular dot will be built up during printing, is there a relationship or method for entering dpi values that will provide a good output?

Can't you control DPI and LPI in the printer settings without destroying the image in Photoshop? You are making Photoshop do something it should not need to do.
The difference that you observe in newspaper images relates to lower LPI, not necessarily a change in DPI.

Setting format and format options in Output module settings for render queue item

Hello,
I am unable to set the "Format" and "Format options" for video in output module settings programatically using After effects apis.
I referred the after effects cs3 sdk guide for the apis.
I find apis for all other options in the "outputmodule settings " like :
AEGP_SetEmbedOptions
AEGP_SetOutputChannels
AEGP_SetStretchInfo
AEGP_SetSoundFormatInfo
But there is no api listed for setting the options available in the "Format" tab and "Format options" tab.
The "Format" tab and "Format options" tab is available in the dialog that opens when user clicks on the Output module settings for the render queue item.
The format tab when clicked shows a drop down list with aff different formats. By default "Video for Windows" is set.
The drop down list contains following format options
Adobe Clip Notes
Adobe Flash video
Quicktime movie
Video for Windows
I need to be able to set the "Quicktime movie" option in the Format tab programmatically and then set the compression type as "Animation" in the compression settings programatically using the api functions available in AE CS3 SDK
Please suggest the suitable api to do so.
I need to write my own plugin to export to Quicktime movie using the after effects apis.
I follow below steps to do so.
1. AEGP_InsertMenuCommand and add export option to AE with my own plugin name
2. In the command hook, select active item using AEGP_GetActiveItem
3. Add it to render queue
4. Set the output module settings for 0 th output module using
suites.OutputModuleSuite1()
5. Use different functions from suites.OutputModuleSuite1() to set the output module settings like EmbedOptions,StrechInfo etc.
6. Till this step, I am doing it right. But I am not able to find any api for setting Format options using suites.OutputModuleSuite1()
I also checked all other suites available for setting FormatOptions but no luck.

I am experiencing the same problem.
I am using AE CC SDK, and I am unable to change the outputmodule format to any of the other movie format types (mov, mpg, flv, etc.).
It is always set to "avi"
I even compiled and ran the Queuebert example in the SDK, and there I get the same problem: the path extension is always left on ".avi"
Does anyone know how to change this?

Display resolution settings not storing since upgrading monitors

We have (2) Mac Pros and since upgrading to larger monitors we have been having issues with the resolution settings not "storing" in display preferences. The computer setups are slightly different, and the monitor sizes and make/models are both different, but the problems are the same:
1) Mac Pro DVI out > VGA switcher > Monitor VGA input
2) Mac Pro DVI out > VGA switcher > DVI switcher > Monitor DVI input
(*Note - I know this whole setup seems ridiculous, but it's the way each of the rooms were hard-wired)
With both machines the problems intermittently vary from the resolution itself changing at random when turning on the machine each day, to the desktop background being about 2/3 the size of the screen, while all of the icons and rest of the desktop being normal sized/extended to the edges of the monitor as it should.
It seems that if we change resolution to anything else, and then change back to the desired resolution, that usually solves the problem.
Does anyone know why these settings won't save?
(*Note - we recently upgraded to Lion, but the issue was there before and after the upgrade.)

I need a symbol to remain center screen on my web page no matter the screen resolution settings.

Im trying to create an animation with functions inside a symbol. I need the symbol settings to remain seprate from the other settings of other items on the page such as "stage" and "background image" which are set to % height.width,longitude,latitude . It is important that the symbol stays in the center of the screen. I also need this symbol to always remain in the center of the screen no matter screen resolution settings that are likly range from 1360x768 to 1920x1080.

I solved the problem. but by solving the problem with centering the symbol on the stage I created another one, a very strange problem.
Firstly the solving of centering problem:
I left all settings of the symbol by px, (means no responsive layout), set 0 px o for position, and wrote a css which then centered the symbol on the stage,

The symbol products is behaving just as supposed. The problem I created and which I don#t understand at all: I created another symbol (news) made the very same adjustments, but the symbol is not positioned as supposed. (of course I change the name of symbol in css). What the heck???

Just connected apple tv. Everything works perfectly but the screen is not in color. I have tried reversing the HDMI cable and changing the output in settings and restarting. Any ideas of how to fix this?

The internal switch in the audio output port is stuck. Try inserting the earphone plug a few times. If no success, try jiggling a tooth pick inside in order to trip the switch.. If still no success, have the technicians at the Apple store genius bar do it for you.

Output resolution

I remember reading here when version 3 Apple TV software came out that there were problems with the program crashing when setting the output resolution to 1080i. I think the fix was 720p, which I have had my Apple TV set on since that problem. I have had no problems since then. My current software version is 3.0.2. Is it safe to now set the output resolution to 1080i or 1080p?

I've never had a problem with my ATV1 crashing with the output set to 1080p, but it did drop down to 720p at random until I moved it to another room and connected it to a different TV.

I have a 13" MacBook Pro, and am using the Dr. Bott Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter Pro with Optical Audio to connect to my Samsung LE22B47 TV.
The resolution of the TV is 1366x768, but the best output resolution for it my Mac offers is 1344x756. It's ok, but it's not great.
How can I change the output resolution so it fits the screen perfectly? I've heard about ScreenResX - is that any good and easy to use?

Changing resolution settings in OfficeJet

Hi everyone.
I'm scanning a few old family pictures, size is approximately 5x3 inch.
The scanned picture I get is very small, 900x600 give or take.
I need to print those pictures in a photobook and this size is way too small.
Is there a way to get bigger pictures?
I tried to increase the resolution, up to 9600, but the result is the same.

Screen Resolution settings on T61P

Hi,
Has anyone adjusted the screen resolutions settings on their T61P from 1680X1050 to 1440X900, or even lower? If so, does everything still look crip and clear at 1440X900?
I have the need, as do others at work to be able to drop the resolution a bit for various reasons.

Thank you for your tips..I run XP and it is not very clear if I lower the resolution to get a larger font I also do not have very good eyesight so this is a pain....on my old Dell laptop I could use the CTRL + scroll the mouse to enlarge the screen....on my T61 (no mouse) I do not know how to do the same thing...any other tips?

Change Output Device Settings @ Runtime?

This will sound silly, but there is a good reason for it :). Also, I am not much of an ABAPer.
We have a requirement to change output device settings on the fly in a program. For instance, in case A, we would like to use the output device as it was originally configured in SPAD. However, in case B, we would like to override the output device's access method and host dynamically in code.
Is there any function module or technique that can change these output device properties via code at runtime (printtime)?

Alternative Resolution Settings

I am running an iMac 24". The highest resolution settings are:
1344 x 840
1920 x 1200
Ideally, I would like a setting that site inbetween, but I do not appear to have the option. Can anyone tell me if this is possible?

Browsers render based on pixel dimensions, not ppi. So, assuming that
you maintain the pixel dimensions and just alter the ppi, nothing will
happen to the file size.
If however you alter the resolution and let Fireworks scale the file,
then yes, the file size will change, and the image quality will also
change, generally not for the better.

Does Frequently Toggling Between Screen Resolution Settings Harm PowerBook?
Since the 12" screen real estate is both limited and sometimes difficult to see (email, etc.), I often toggle (6-12 x a day) between screen resolution settings on a 12" G4 PowerBook (1.5GHz, 768MB RAM). Can anyone please confirm whether or not this harms the video, screen, motherboard, etc., in anyway?
I'd hoped to avoid buying an 17" LCD monitor to address this concern, but would do so if this shortens the lifespan of the PowerBook in any way.

Comp settings vs. Output Module settings

Oh geez I hate to even ask this question:
What the heck did I do? Maybe I'm losing it here...
I've been rendering HD videos in H.264 for some time, but all of a sudden I'm getting "settings mismatch" in output module settings.
And my animations are always 1920x1080
Could somebody give me a refresher on selecting comp settings versus render settings? Please?
If I know I'm going to use output module setting of H.264, what size should my original comp be? Does comp setting have to be 1280x720? Cause I've been using 1920x1080.
I've cycled thru just about every output module setting and every render is all grainy and unusable.
Maybe I changed something somewhere and not aware of it?
My Comp Settings:
Preset: HDTV 1080 29.97
width: 1920 px
height: 1080 px
What's got me stumped is the fact that the video/graphics look so crisp and clear while editing and previewing, but rendered video is all grainy and blurry.

H.264 renders out as progressive scan, but 1920x1080 is typically upper field first for most editing applications.
What's the field order you're using? Add the comp to AE's Render Queue and check the Render Settings.
How are you viewing the rendered file? In an editing application? In a viewer?
Personally, I'd be tempted to use 1280x720, 59.94 frames/sec if I had a choice.
