Output to DVD - NTSC Size Challenge

We have put together our first slideshow. Everything worked great except for the slide titles/captions. When preview on the PC everything looked fine. When viewed on the TV, the titles/captions were cut off in the horizontal. How can I correct this?
Using: Photoshop Elements 5.0
Thanks,
Drew

Shoot 30p. Capture as 29.97 NTSC DV... you're done. no interlacing should be introduced.
There's a lot of confusion about frame rates, because we're using new terms for recording formats. Like 24p is a recording format that is really NTSC video - 29.97 fps with a pulldown pattern of fields in a DV camera... 30p has no pulldown pattern. it's really 29.97 too. make sense?
There are cameras that record 60 fps, and flag the frames you choose, like the varicam. And I thought digital video would be easier than analog. LOL...

  • Bluray Project Output to DVD

I am working a Premiere project that will be output to DVD or Bluray. I exported a timeline as H264 Bluray and created a Bluray Encore project. I see that I could change the export format from Bluray to DVD, but I am curious to know how Encore calculates the disk info. I assume the H264 media will be transcoded from one compressed format to another. How does this affect quality? I would prefer to export DVD from a Bluray project than to create an identical project for DVD.
I would also like to know if this is the best way to output to DVD while maximizing quality. Prior to CC, I dynamic linked the Premiere project to Encore and it would calculate disk size automatically. If I now have to do it myself, it seems very time consuming way to go. In my case, the media will exceed DVD size limitations. If so, which of the Premiere export parameters are safe to tweak in order to size down the files to fit the DVD?
If these questions have been covered in another thread, please lead me to it.

  • 30p to dvd ntsc

    Hi everyone,
can 30p project in fcp output to an ntsc dvd & play on tv Ok? or it would be tearing down by the interlacing of ntsc as 60i?
reason I ask is that the new sony V1u can record 30p & if that 30p project can mix with SD30f uncompress project then I would want to shoot in 30p instead of 24p.
**have to mix with some Dbeta footage* when mastering so what is the best way?
shoot 24pA & digitize into fcp as 60i (that the sony automatically did that).
    or
shoot 30p? ( don't know the edit process yet)
    thank you,
    JP

  • CS4 and pillarboxing 1920x1080 AVCHD to 16:9 DVD NTSC

    I'm new to Premiere CS4.  I'm using Canon HF11 30p MTS files, so I'm  using the 1080i30 (60i) settings.
I Import my AVCHD files.  When I try to  use Adobe Media Encoder CS4 to downsample the 1920x1080 AVCHD to 16:9  DVD NTSC or DV I get  pillarboxing on the sides of the DVD file.  I don't in  any of my other video editing programs.  Why do I ONLY see this in Premiere, and  how can I fix it?  I've never seen a video editor not 'stretch' the video to fill the entire 720x480 'screen' with the correct aspect ratio played on the TV.
I read about and already understood apect ratios:
    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/PremierePro/4.0/WS03BF7479-8C7B-4522-8C75-210AD102524Ea.html#W S9058AE69-455C-49c2-AD1B-35DA227B376Aa
And this sounds like it's about my problem but doesn't help since the MPEG2-DVD setting in AME doesn't allow me to choose square pixels:
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/325/325883.html
Here's the output showing the pillarboxing:
    Here's the source tab:

For CS4, Adobe "fixed" the non-square pixel aspect ratios to conform to BBC and Orange Book standards.  For years Adobe apps have had the wrong PARs.  It's now been fixed across the entire suite of Adobe applications.  The technical solution involves Production Aperture, Clean Aperture and more math than I care to review.
If you'd like to try to get your head around it, this link may be helpful:

The bottom line is that what you are seeing now is correct.

  • Going HD 24fps to standard DVD NTSC

    Hey everyone,
I've been working with HD projects for a couple years, but I now have to bring them to DVD NTSC format to ship out to potential employers. I mainly work in the following format:
    1280x720 HD (Square Pixels)
    24 fps
    Progressive (No Fields)
So, what's the best way to get this down to proper format (720x480, 0.9 pixel aspect, 29.97 fps) without hiccups and quality loss? I have the Adobe suite, so access to Premiere, AE, and Encore are no problem. HD/Blu-Ray formats are also out of the question. Thanks for the help in advance! :D

  • CD DVD print size is missing from Apple print menu options

    Hi all,
I wonder if anyone has this same problem I'm trying to fix. Thanks for you input, is much appreciated.
When I bought my Canon Pixma MG 5350 that can print over blank printable CD or DVD, there was an option to choose the CD / DVD size. You could even choose to print 120 or 80 mm sizes. But after a while when I went back to print a DVD, those sizes were gone for good and there was only one size labeled something like "Disk tray G" (my system is not in English so it can be different for you).
I tried it although I didn't know how would this succeed if I had to print a small DVD and it failed. A portion of the DVD was not printed and left blank because the DVD position was moved away from the real tray size, so there was this portion not printed in the DVD but printed over the tray plastic!
I reseted the printer configuration, tried to update it and everything possible but CD / DVD sizes are just gone. I can print using the Canon software, however I'd like to use Apple printer dialog as I'd like to print from Photoshop, Illustrator, Pages etc. directly. My solution now is to export an image and print using the Canon software but this is not how it worked before.
I contacted Canon about this and they are "investigating" this. As the problem is in the generic print options in the System maybe this can be a driver problem or a change. It happens in both an iMac and a Macbook with OSX 10.9.4, everything is updated and working normally. Printer has the latest firmware and software and I reseted the print configuration in the Mac, also reseted the printer to factory defaults, etc.
Does this happen to anyone trying to print CD / DVD from the System print options? Thank you.

As far as I know, you can only print CD/DVD's on Canon's MG and MX series from Canon's Easy PhotoPrint or Image Garden applications. I've never seen a way to print from non-Canon applications. So I would say that what you are experiencing is specification and I would be interested to read if Canon came back to you with a solution.

  • Can I create hdtv slideshow output on DVD

Can I create hd output on DVD?
Can I create 1080x720 video and write to dvd's to play on a commercial dvd player for my Hdtv?
    the highest output I see is 720 x 480??
    thanks,

    >HD output from my commercial progressive scan DVD player
Not possible... to have HD output you need one of the "announced but not shipped" players, since the DVD specification does not provide for HD content that will play out to your HD Television... you simply can't stuff HD content on a DVD and have it play from the DVD to a TV

  • Outputting a DVD To Flash Video in Encore 3 Under Leopard

This topic is indirectly related to Final Cut Pro 6 (since it is the source of my Quicktime movies in Encore 3) and I post it here because I have had no luck getting any responses on other forums including the Creative Cow and Adobe forums.
I have recently purchased the Adobe Production Premium package and successfully prepared several Blu-ray and standard definition DVD's using Encore 3. However, whenever I attempt to output any of these DVD's to Flash Video by selecting Build>Output to Flash from within Encore 3, my menus transcode, but when Encore gets to my timeline video, the progress bar goes to about 20% almost instantly and remains there forever. I have tried several different types of video files including short Quicktime movies created in Final Cut Pro as well as other formats in the Encore 3 timeline. The result is always as given above. When this happens, I finally have to Force Quit Encore 3 because selecting cancel on the transcode give me an endlessly spinning beach ball.
I am running Encore 3 (latest updates installed) on an 8-core Mac Pro (Early 2008 model) with 12 GB of RAM and under Leopard 10.5.4 (latest version with all updates installed). I have successfully transcoded these timelines that seem to freeze Encore 3 using MPEG SlipStream so I know the files are OK.
Is anyone else having this problem? Is there any solution to the problem? Does output to Flash simply not work under Leopard?
I have written to Adobe Tech Support. I have received no response from Adobe. I feel that someone on this forum must be using Encore 3 (since it is one of the few ways of getting Blu-ray DVD authoring on the Mac) and has tried to output the DVD as Flash video from within Encore 3. I am simply trying to determine (1) if this is a known issue when running Encore 3 under Leopard; (2) if there is any fix to get Output to Flash working from within Encore 3.
Thank you in advance for responding.
    Tom

    David,
My hat is off to you for persevering with Encore 3 and getting it to output flash video. AFter reading that you had gotten it to work, I was inspired to try once again. This time I encoded my timeline to DVCPro HD by exporting the FCP project to Compressor. I then took this timeline (an 11 minute video) into Encore 3 and tried to build a flash DVD. I have a main menu and scene selection menu, and they both transcoded fine in about 20 minutes, but once again when Encore got to my timeline, the progress bar moved to about 1-2% and simply stayed there. After 7 hours I finally gave up and canceled the transcode which had never progressed any further and did a Force Quit on Encore.
I noticed in doing the above, that during the transcode of the menus Activity Monitor shows my cpu is reading 170-190 and varying as you would expect. Once Encore hits my timeline and begins the transcode of that, the cpu drops to 100 and remains there with no real sign of activity.
Can you tell me if your DVD that you successfully output to flash with Encore 3 had chapter marks in it? I am wondering if they could be the trouble. Some people have indicated that they solved the problem by going back to an earlier version of Quicktime. I am using version 7.5 of Quicktime, which is the latest version. Can you tell me what version of Quicktime you are using on the Mac that succeeded in outputting to Flash video using Encore 3?
    Thanks again for your help.

  • Output from DVD Studio Pro plays on computer but not on TV DVD?

When I output a DVD from DVD Pro (16:9) it plays fine on the computer (and other computers) but not on a conventional DVD player. What am I doing wrong?

I don't want to take over this thread, but figured why start another when I am having this exact same issue. I create my project, everything is good, I simulate it and everything is good, I burn it to disc and play it on the computer and everything is good, try it in a conventional player and it says it's unreadable and kicks it out. I've tried it in Two different players that both have been able to play movies created in iDVD just fine.
I browsed my disc I created and it didn't have the standard files (VOB etc) so I thought maybe I mistakenly burned it in HD, checked the encoder settings adn they were set to HD. Fixed that so it was 16:9 SD, burned another and same exact result. Do I need to create a whole new project so it will encode the whole thing in SD? I did do a new movie track and it should have encoded it at SD but I think everything else (Menus, Slideshow, etc) are all in HD still (maybe???). Any suggestions or help are greatly appreciated.

  • What compressor settings settings are best for 1080i  to output to DVD using DVD Studio pro?

What compressor settings settings are best for 1080i  to output to DVD using DVD Studio pro? I used FCP 6, exported using Quick Time.

DVDs are only SD. There was at one time HD-DVDs, which DVD SP and Compressor can make, but HD-DVDs will only play in Macs and, now obsolete HD-DVD players. HD-DVDs will not play back in standard DVD players or Blu-Ray players. If you want to make a "DVD will be played on DVD player for TV" disc, your only choice is SD.
If you want HD video on a disc, then you want Blu-Ray. You will need a Blu-Ray burner (Apple does not make a Blu-Ray burner so you will have to buy a third-party Blu-Ray burner), Blu-Ray discs and software that will make a Blu-Ray disc. That could be the latest version of Compressor, or FCPX, or Toast, or Encore.

  • Outputting to DVD - Best Format?

I am new to Premier Pro and have a Canon Vixia HF-R50. My footage was filmed at 60P (AVCHD) and I want to output to DVD (non-Blue ray). What is the best format for this?
    Fantastic forum here, btw

As long as you export a compatible file from Premiere Pro (MPEG2-DVD works) you may continue to use Encore CS6 as long as you have a computer and operating system that will run the program
Since it currently appears Adobe is not going to spend the time/money to build an Encore replacement "from scratch" you will have to look elsewhere
I do NOT use these, so have NO idea if they will do what you need

    -or http://www.deskshare.com/dvd-authoring-burning-software.aspx
-or http://www.videostudiopro.com/en/ replace PPro and Encore

  • Pixma 330 fax output error check paper size

I received a fax on my Pixma 330. The document came through fine, but now I have "fax output error, check paper size and press OK". The paper size is correct, and when I press OK, it prints out the original document again, then gives me the same error message. If I turn off the machine, when I turn it back on, it again prints the document, then gives me the error message. The machine will not let me do anything except press OK. How can I get this to go away? Thanks.

    Hi JWK,
Please make sure that the paper is loaded correctly and the settings are correct.  To do this, please follow these steps:
    1. Flatten the four corners of the paper before loading it.
    Note
Align the edges of paper neatly before loading. Loading paper without aligning the edges may cause paper jams.
If paper is curled, hold the opposing curled corners and gently bend them in the opposite direction until the paper becomes completely flat. See Paper is curled..
To avoid curling, handle paper as follows.
    - When you do not print, remove unused paper from the Rear Tray, put them back into the package, and keep it on a level surface.
    - Take out only the necessary number of sheets from the package, just before printing.
    2. Load the paper.
    (1) Open the Paper Support, raise it, then tip it back.
    (2) Open the Paper Output Tray gently, and open the Output Tray Extension.
    (3) Slide the Paper Guides (A) to open them, and load the paper in the center of the Rear Tray WITH THE PRINT SIDE FACING YOU
    Important
Always load paper in the portrait orientation (B). Loading paper in the landscape orientation (C) can cause paper jams.
    (4) Slide the Paper Guides (A) to align them with both sides of the paper stack.
Do not slide the Paper Guides too hard. The paper may not be fed properly.
    Note:
Do not load sheets of paper higher than the Load Limit Mark(D).
    After loading paper
When using the machine to copy or print without a computer, select the size and type of the loaded paper in Page size and Media type of the settings screen in each mode.

  • Poor Output Quality DVD vs. Mpeg

I recently scanned some slides at 360 dpi to a 4 by 6 size when I place them in the timeline they looked perfect. When I burned a DVD the quality was off a little bit especially at 1080p. When I exported as a computer file " MPEG HDTV 1080p 29.97 High Quality " and played it on the TV it was perfect...any suggestions why the DVD output quality was a little off  (faces appears to be mottled and lines are pixelated).
I've tried different project settings and the results are the same except anything that's interlaced seems worse, more pixelated.
The Properties for most of the slides are as follows
    Type:Jpeg
    File size: 1.8mb ( and higher )
    image size: 2159 x1439
    Pixel Aspect Ratio: 1.0
    Bill

    fader5
Could you please clarify your question and its details because I am reading your details as 1080p formats as AVCHD DVD versus HD MPEG2.mpg file.
I am interpreting your question with no involvement of DVD-VIDEO on DVD disc.
I think that you have burned some photos in Premiere Elements
    Publish+Share
    Disc
    AVCHD
    with Presets = H.264 1920 x 1080p NTSC Dolby
and would like to see a bit "better" when at playback on your TV's player.
    The following
When I burned a DVD the quality was off a little bit especially at 1080p
same except anything that's interlaced seems worse, more pixelated
    forces my focus away from
    Publish+Share
    Disc
    DVD
where there are no progressive offerings, just interlaced ones.
I am assuming that your player is a Blu-ray player that supports AVCHD DVD or one of the multi media players that supports AVCHD DVD.
Now when you export the Timeline content to file
    Publish+Share
    Computer
    MPEG
with Presets = HDTV 1080p29.97, the MPEG2.mpg that you obtain displays better on your TV. What is the MPEG2.mpg on...USB Flash
    Drive or memory card?
Please review and consider and clarify. Please excuse if I have misinterpreted your question. If I read it correctly, then I will offer comments
    for the possible whys.
    Thanks.

  • Reduced DVD image size with HD to SD footage in Encore

Using CS5, when I encode an SD sequence from Premiere to Encore, all works well.  When I downconvert an HD project through AME it looks fine and shows full screen in Encore, but when I burn a DVD and play it, I get a reduced size image in the center of the screen.
I'm shooting 1080 24p with a Panasonic HPX170 camcorder.  I create Microsoft AVI files using On Location.
I use a Matrox MXO2 Mini with Max display unit, so I'm using  these Premiere project settings:
    Matrox HD
    1990x1080
    [email protected]
I'm exporting the Premiere timeline using the recommended settings in the Jeff Bellune CS4 tutorial for converting Premiere HD footage to SD for DVD burning
    FORMAT: MPEG2-DVD
PRESET NTSC 23.976p Widescreen High Quality
    VBR 2 PASS
    Maximum Render Quality
    Min bit rate 2.8
    Target bit rate 7
    Max bit rate 8
    GOP SETTINGS  M frames 3  N frames12
Audio 48 kh PCM 16 bits
    Multiplexer NONE
When I render files and build a project with Encore, the timeline and menu image appears full screen in the Encore monitor.
When I burn the project to DVD, it displays properly in letterbox on a standard def tv.
But, when I play the DVD on an HDTV, I get a great looking picture in proper aspect ratio, but it displays at about 3/4 size in the center of the screen with black surrounding it.  I can change the display setting on the HDTV to 'Zoom" and fill the screen with the picture without distortion.
I have the same issue creating footage at 1080i 60 fps and 1080p 30 fps and building projects with appropriate settings in Premiere and Encore.
I'm wondering if I'm missing a setting in AME or Encore. I thought I'd followed Jeff Bellune's excellent instructions on HD to SD settings in AME to the letter.
I'd like to create DVDs that will play full screen on HDTVs and in letterbox on standard def TVs without viewers having to change the settings on their HDTVs.
FYI, I'm shooting in HD, partially to get really clean keys during the edit, using the Ultra keyer in Premiere. This works great.
    Thanks for any assistance.

    Jeff,
I went back and checked all the PAR settings and looked at the monitors in 100% mode.  Didn’t solve the problem, but here’s what I found.
I’m using an avi film clip shot at 1080 24p on the Panasonic HPX170P.
In CS5 Premiere, I checked the interpret footage setting on the clip.
It read: Pixel Aspect Ratio: DVCPROHD(1.5)
I right clicked the timeline to see its properties and saw: PAR 1.5.
When I checked the monitor at 100% it zoomed in to a close-up of the middle of the image, compared to a full-screen image in “fit.”
In AME, I used the settings from your Scaling HD to SD using CS4 tutorial and the 1080 24p option.
When I changed the monitor view to 100% and switched back and forth between SOURCE and OUTPUT views, the SOURCE view was tightly zoomed into the center of the frame, and the OUTPUT view was slightly zoomed in, only losing a bit of the sides of the frame.  Unchecking "Aspect Ratio Correction" squeezed both source and output monitor images horizontally. I rechecked "Aspect Ratio Correction."
I imported the encoded clip into Encore and checked its PAR.
The PAR was set to “SQUARE 1.0”
The 100% view in the monitor was just slightly zoomed in from the “fit” view.
I tried changing the PAR on the clip in the project window to “Conform to:SD NTSC WIDESCREEN 1.2121.”
This did not change the 100% monitor view.
I saved the project and burned a DVD, but saw no change in the menu or clip size. Still small image centered.
Next I changed the PAR on the clip in the Encore project window to: “Conform to Anamorphic 1.333.”
This shrank the 100% view to show a letterbox view of the clip, showing the entire clip image.
I saved the project and burned a DVD.  On the DVD, the menu appeared unchanged, still small and centered. The clip played in full 4:3 aspect ratio, not distorted, with the edges side cropped.
Any other PAR settings I missed I should access and change?
Any additional things for me to try?
