Output to Monitor ?

Can one output to a production monitor for viewing before burning ? How ?

if you have a Decklink card you can set the card to mirror the desktop to the production monitor. You cant send a signal directly from DVDSP to a production monitor.

Why does final cut x not recognize the sharp PN- K321 monitor ( European version ) as output video monitor, and premiere yes?
Working with two cinema display and PN- K321 and I can not preview the output video at 4K by DisplayPort, whereas with premiere and after effects I have no problems

Look, you can build an HD DVD with an SD movie, just as you can build an SD DVD with an HD movie. This is not a bug, it is most likely user error. Apple will not be addressing it.
Just start over, and ensure you are building an SD DVD by bringing up the inspector for the disc (click on the background in the Graphical tab).
Make sure SD DVD is selected:
(If you do the same thing on your ill fated project, you'll see that HD DVD is selected)
Build your DVD and you'll be fine.
Patrick
P.S. You will need to google HD DVD and Blu-Ray if you want to understand the difference between the formats. The reason that DVDSP included HD DVD was that its format was similar to SD DVD's. Blu-Ray is something else entirely.

• HDMI output to monitor not displaying all colors

I am trying to use a second monitor on my Satellite S55t-b5152 and am able to get 1920x1080 output from the HDMI port through an adapter to either VGA or DVI into my external monitor, but with either adapter the colors look washed-out and not all the colors that are displayed on the internal monitor show up on the external monitor. For example the position indicator in scroll bar on some apps shows up on the internal monitor, but disappears when I drag that window onto the external monitor. I've tried multiple monitors and they all have the same symptom. I've investigated this some on external forums and it seems to be that the HDMI output under some conditions assumes that it is connected to a TV instead of a monitor and it limits the output color range. On some graphics drivers it is possible to override that assumption and get the full range output from the HDMI port. I haven't found a way to do that for the graphics driver on the S55t-b5152. Has anyone figured this out?

through an adapter to either VGA or DVI...
Just want to comment that I'm not at all surprised that an adapter does not produce true colors. I'm sometimes amazed they work at all.
Yours is HDMI 2.0 which complicates things still further.

• Output to monitor options

My late 2011 13" MBP only has one TB output which I currently use (TB to hdmi adaptor ) for my samsung hdmi monitor but would like to use the TB out to connect to a TB HD that also only has one TB port. What are my options if any?
Many thanks
Dave

Thanks for your help, I was just referring to
>> Since Thunderbolt displays should always be at the end of a Thunderbolt chain, I'm not surprised that the display you're looking at has only one TB port.<<
It's not a TB Display as I said & understand that if it was why it would only have one TB port, but this point is a little redundant/confusing as it's not relevant to "this" conversation.
I have however looked at TB hubs & the Caldigit TB hub seems like a good option especially at below $200. --> http://eshop.macsales.com/item/CalDigit/TSUS60/
There also seems to be a much cheaper option ($58) USB to hdmi/VGA option both at OWC . This of course ties up a USB port but I might try this first because of price--> http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Newer%20Technology/VIDU2DVIA/
Many thanks again

• Output to monitor/projector

Will iOS 4.2 have the ability to output to an external monitor/projector?
I know Apple left it up to the software developers to enter in this code but why can't the iPad just have this ability out of the box? Those that have jail broken their iPad already have this ability in the settings. That just shows that the iPad could do this but apple won't allow it.
Apple why can't we have this functionality? I would love it for myself for various reasons, but I work for a large school and the faculty members that have purchased iPad's want to output to a projector as part of their teaching.
Heck...apple didn't even add this functionality into Safari.

We are all users here. We do not know why Apple does/does not do what it does. If you want to make a suggestion go here:

• V210 won't output to Monitor

Had to replace my old v210 with a new one. The new one did not come with a video card or DVD-ROM, so I took them out of the old server. The DVD-ROM works fine, but I either get no output on the monitor, or if I do, it looks like a sync'ing issue (horizintal multicolored lines). The only difference between the old and new server - besides no video and DVD, is the new server is dual-cpu with 8GB RAM, whereas the old one was single CPU with 4GB RAM.
I cannot locate any information on Oracle's site on how to troubleshoot a video problem. I downloaded all the manuals they have at (http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E19088-01/v210.srvr/index.html) but nothing is covered in any of them.
During boot and diags, the monitor does come on as it polls the bus, but it does not stay on, or has horizontal lines. I'm posting the output of my POST and eeprom settings in hopes someone can help.

Why would you expect a monitor to show anything, when the new system is using its factory default configuration?
output-device=ttya
input-device=ttyaBy the way, that is the preferred method to administer those 1U systems.
Connect another system to the serial console port and set that system up as you want.
Did you even take the opportunity to tell the OS of the existence of that card? There isn't any Plug-n-Play as your personal Microsoft PC might have. You likely will need to do a reconfiguration reboot, then install drivers for the video card then more reboots. Have a Sun USB keyboard/mouse kit connected as well, else you may still never see any monitor output.
Go get the V210 documentation and use its guidance to set the system as you want it.

• Cheapest video output for monitoring

Hi
I currently have my final cut pro setup to output via firewire through my panasonic video camera and to my monitor.
I've decided its time to liberate the camera, and perhaps get something dedicated for conversion.
I don't need much, I'm not editing for broadcast or anything - just viewing dv through firewire mostly.
Is a canopus 110 the cheapest simplest way to go, or is there something else I haven't heard of?
Cheers,
Chris

Chris, there will always be something 'cheaper', perhaps something from Pyro, or you could undoubtedly find a no name brand that may even be the same product without the badge ... however, I would vouch for the Canopus ADVC110 as a robust device with a deserved reputaion for quality.
Cheers

• Output to Monitors

Hey Everybody,
I was wondering what the best way to output to studio monitors probably the (m-audio bx5a pair). I figured the best quality would be through and audio interface. But would it be possible and be good quality to go through a hosa cable with a mini jack input on one end with 2 xlr connectors on the other.
Thanks,
Alex

You should get an audio interface, the difference between the sound quality coming out of a good one (e.g. TC Konnekt 24D or higher / Live, apogee duet or higher, MOTU units, etc) is pretty noticeable.

• SX20 main cam output on monitor 1 and monitor 2 at the same time

Hi Community,
we have an SX20 (TC7.0.2) and need to have the main source (12x Cisco cam) on both monitor outputs, because we need to record the VC session.
DD option is installed. Is there a way to get this configured ?
Regards
Jens

If you just want to record what the SX20 sends out to its main monitor to a second screen/recorder, you could just use something like a DA2 to duplicate the audio/video that is played locally.
In addition to what Patrick has said about the video from the local camera though - you're also not going to get the local audio through the monitor output - only the far end - so, again, this may not be what you're wanting if you're looking to record the whole video conference (audio and video from both ends).
I suggest you look in to the Cisco TelePresence Content Server product if you're looking to do recording on a regular basis.

• Setting output for monitoring playback

I have FCS 2 and something that bugs me in Soundtrack Pro now is that my output for playback seems to have to be the same as for my system. I have other things going on my Mac that might generate sounds while I am working in Soundtrack Pro and don't like hearing it all while editing. I generally use my optical jack for general purpose listening but when editing I use a firewire 410 going out to either headphones or a set of monitors. Is there a way to set Soundtrack Pro to use the firewire 410 for playback without having to change my system audio output in the system preferences? The only settings I could find in Soundtrack Pro were for recording.
Thanks,
D.J.

I use a Layla 3g audio interface, 8 analog I/Os, which connects via SPDFI optical to a LavryBlack DA 10 converter. In Logic Pro to hear my audio tracks I therefore set their output to Output 9-10.
I can find no way to do this in STP. I have the Layla 3g chosen as default both in my System Prefs and in Audio Midi Setup.
If STP only allows output assignment of a track to 1-2 this is extremely lame but perhaps i simply do not know how.

• Realtime output to monitor

I set up a new FCP suite, and wanted realtime output to a monitor (component connected) so I could edit and see what I was doing without a delay.
I got a Decklink HD Extreme card as a friend assured me this would give me realtime output.
But it isn't.
I am getting a distinct delay from pressing play to seeing the results.
If I hit play there is a pause before it plays, then when I hit stop it plays a bit more before stopping (again about 4 to 6 frames).
FCP does mostly jump back to where I hit stop, but it isn't so easy to edit dialogue with all this pausing.
I have a DVCAM sequence, and use the Decklink easy set up, but have the timeline set to DVCAM.
Is it the problem that the decklink card cannot play DVCAM in realtime?
I have tried to explain this to my friend, but he has not used an Avid so isn't used to a realtime system that has no delay.
Avid have managed to crack this with their Mojo, and as DV is only 25 Mbits it would seam quite easy to stream way ahead from my raid.
Any suggestions, or is this standard fair for FCP with a Decklink card?
Are AJA any better?

Hi Finalcutter,
what is the playback offset set to?
('System Settings' window > 'Playback Control' tab)
Default shoud be 4 (frames). Try to set to 0 (zero).
Hope this helps, Oliver

• Outputting to monitor and shutting Macbook lid causing sleep

Hi - my colleague has just set up a Macbook and is outputting to an external monitor and is running it in dual monitor mode. However when shutting the lid to the Macbook it is sleeping the Macbook and subsequently turning off the external monitor.
We'd like to be able to keep the Macbook shut and obviously run the external monitor but we couldn't find anything in Sys Prefs to let us do that (it's running Leopard).
Any help appreciated! Thanks

I would advise against this. The laptop dumps heat through the keyboard area and when you close the lid, you keep that heat inside.
What I'd do instead, is turn down the brightness until the backlight is off. This has almost the same effect.

• Satellite C660 - Blank screen - No output - External monitor OK

I recently bought a C660 from ebay as a non-working repair project, listed as having no output to the LED screen but working ok on an external monitor.
After stripping it down, I found that the 40 pin connector to the LED panel had 3 damaged pins on the left side, so assuming that was the issue, I got another cable and rebuilt it. However, still no output to the LED panel, but all working fine on an external monitor.
As I have a spare new panel in stock, the next move was to replace the LED panel - still no output, except to the external monitor.
I have checked the setting for the video output (Fn+F5) and it is no different on any setting.
I have seen a couple of threads on here where people are having issues with no video output after a BIOS update (however I do not know if this has been done or not in this case).
Does anyone have any ideas as to what else I could check for to see what the problem might be?
Any help greatly appreciated.

>I have seen a couple of threads on here where people are having issues with no video output after a BIOS update (however I do not know if this has been done or not in this case).
If BIOS update fails, the unit would not power up and this results in black screen but this has nothing to do with your issue. The external monitor works properly so BIOS is OK.
Your issue is related to faulty internal display or the connection between the display and motherboard.
Both should be checked!

• Apple Audio Output levels / monitor calibration

Hello all. I am mixing sfx and foley out of my macbook pro, and as a student on a very limited budget, I am forced to monitor with a consumer stereo - run of the mill Sony surround receiver, powering a pair of JBL Northridge N26II's. I know, bad reference and probably a frequency curve that is not even close to flat, but it is all I have access to right now for the bulk of my work. I have limited studio time with monitors, and I plan to use this to touch up these mixes that were done on the JBL's. The idea is that I do the bulk of my work, then bring it into the studio, hopefully to be able to salvage the mix. At least it is better than headphones.
Anyway, I am attempting to calibrate my system, and I have a few questions. To get the audio out (at line level I believe, through the headphone jack on the MBP), I am wondering at what level I should set my system volume. Is the zero at the highest setting, as indicated on the volume slider in the Audio Output section of the Audio MIDI Setup program in OSX? Or is this amplifying the signal?
Also, I have been told that I could use the ref. tone generated when one puts the bars up in Final Cut Pro to calibrate my monitoring setup, thus assuming that every level slider is at zero on the way from the audio source (say tone in FCP, or tracks of audio in STP or logic), I could adjust the receiver's volume control to playback the tone at a comfortable level and keep it there for the duration of the mix. Is this legit, or do I have some flaws in this plan?

Replace monitor cable with a good one. If machine still won't boot then...
Follow Bejon's instructions carefully (remembering to remove power cord and waiting 3 minutes before opening case to reset cmos, then closing case after you have reset cmos as described in the user manual, and reattaching power cord after case is reclosed). Once you can boot (with one stick of ram in slot closest to the cpu if you cannot boot with 2 sticks) hit "del" key to enter bios, select "optimized defaults", enter "cell menu", set dram/memory voltage to 2.75 (or higher if manufacturerer of HYPER X memory recommends more power - don't worry about flashing red warning, memory can handle it), then use "F10" and "yes" to save settings in bios. Good luck.
