Output to Quicktime trouble

I've finished a piece in After Effects 7.0, with art created in Flash. It outputs to avi nicely. But I need a smaller file size. I use the Sorensen 3 codec to output and the Quicktime comes out as colorful flickers with no image, but full file size. So I upgrade to AE CS 3, and the same thing happens.
But if I take the avi file into my very old Adobe Premiere 6 LE that came preinstalled with this Sony computer about four years ago it outputs with Sorensen 3 perfectly. What could this be about?

Actually it's not weird. Sorenson/ sorenson 3 are legacy CoDecs no longer officially supported. You will notice that they do not even natively show up with the latest versions of QT (They're stil lthere, though). Cell phone support is very tricky. Support for given formats is merely dependent on the device. that's why for all intents and purposes you should always export such content from Flash or Photoshop via Device Central. Flash Lite is merely a subset of Flash and does not support all features and likewise things such as animated mobile bitmaps work differently. Can't really help you with the specifics, though. I never really have done anything along those lines as I'm not very interested in this stuff. Maybe ask some questions on the respective forums. I'm sure you'll find some geeks who buy a new mobile every month...

  • Improper cuts appearing in my final output with Quicktime

Hi everyone. I've been struggling to output what, in my opinion, is a fairly simple project I've edited from an old home video (originally shot on miniDV). It's mostly just cuts and some simple text titles. Forgive me for some ignorance regarding Final Cut Pro; I've used it for a while now, but not terribly in depth.
It's a little hard for me to describe this since I lack a lot of technical terms but here goes: Every time I output my final project, certain shots begin with a single frame that is dissolving over the previous frame from the raw footage. In other words, there is a frame that does not belong, overlaying the first frame of the shot. Sometimes it's difficult to notice in real time, but at other points it looks absolutely horrible. This is supposed to be a gift for a friend, and I really just want the cuts to look normal.
A couple bits of information. First of all, not every shot starts this way. Only certain ones - always the same ones as far as I can tell. I was first outputting using Compressor, since my ultimate goal is to burn the video onto a DVD. I then tried outputting using Quicktime Conversion to H.26, PNG and Uncompressed 10-bit 4:2:2, all of which suffered from the same problem. My first theory was that it could be an interlacing issue, since the offending frame appeared to be interlaced perfectly with the previous frame in the raw footage. However, after checking "de-interlace source video" during my output to Uncompressed 10-bit, the result was simply a blurrier dissolve between the two images.
I've tried deleting all of my render files and outputting again, but that has not worked. I viewed the raw video in my capture scratch folder to make sure that there wasn't some kind of frame overlap to begin with, but there wasn't. The video looks totally fine in my timeline, and all I want is for my output to replicate that. The only thing left I can think of doing is going shot by shot and cutting out frames in my timeline, which will take an extraordinary amount of time, not to mention the fact that I'd have to output all of my videos, slow down each and every cut, and find the bad frames that I haven't noticed yet.
I refuse to believe that there's no way for Final Cut Pro to output these videos properly, but I certainly haven't found it yet. Hopefully someone out there has some experience with this problem or can at least venture a guess as to how to fix it, since I'm all out. Thanks for any suggestions you can offer!

@Jim Cookman: If that's true that would really suck. You're absolutely right, those offending shots don't have handles (so far I've only noticed it with regards to in-points, not out-points) But the thing is, I'm not doing any transitions with those shots. They're just simple cuts. I don't see why Final Cut Pro can't output a cut at the frame I want it to cut at. The problem is that the video I'm editing is home video with very short shots and people's phrases being cutoff. It wasn't shot with editing in mind. Nevertheless, I've had handles where I put dissolves and whatnot, I just don't have them here. It's not like I'm unwilling to trim one or two frames here or there, but the real issue is that it would be a crazy amount of work, especially after everything I've already done to get the timeline just how I want it. There is some music and effects, and there are a lot of cuts; going through every one of them would be very difficult.
So I guess with regards to handles, the question is: is there any way to select a clip, or set of clips in a timeline, and have FCP automatically trim the first and last frames, while simultaneously adjusting music, etc.? If so, then that may very well solve the problem. But if not, well, then I have a lot of work ahead of me... Thre's always next year!
Anyway, I appreciate both of your inputs. Thanks for taking the time to help me out.

  • Quicktime trouble

Quicktime is fubar. I have re-installed and re-installed Quicktime, but it is having some serious issues. I posted a few days ago, but no one has responded. Since then I have looked for answers and help on the internet with no success.
I cannot watch movie trailers from the Apple site (the Quicktime Q comes up, faded with a question mark). I have not tried to watch any other kinds of Quicktime videos. Under MIME Settings (in Preferences, Browser), there is nothing checked under "miscellaneous".
Occassionally the following message has appeared. "Some of the file types associated with Quicktime applications are currently associated with other applications. Should I restore these file type associations to Quicktime? Yes No". I have said yes. I'm not sure what applications it is referring to. Any ideas how I can track that down?
When I try to open the Quicktime Player, it seems to have loaded improperly (the prompts such as File, Edit, etc are shown twice, one below the other. There is a black horizontal space, and there is a white with blue border vertical space. When I have tried to click on the latter, a title seems to appear - Untitled 2. I have not created any documents or anything with Quicktime. Otherwise it is unresponsive; it is useless.). This has been the same everytime I have re-installed.
I went to the Quicktime trouble shooting page. The Quicktime Q's are the same - faded with a question mark.
I'm sorry to put this here twice. I know not being able to watch movie trailers is not the end of the world. But it would be nice to be able to use this application.

I have a similar problem with 1 of the 2 MacBook Pro's. The one having problems with displaying web contents (Quicktime question marks all over the place) at www.cartoonnetwork.com was configured new by importing all files from a PowerBook G4, which also has the problem at www.cartoonnetwork.com. The other MacBook Pro does not have the problem because it was not configured by importing files from another machine. I have tried emptying all cache and resetting Safari to no avail. Any ideas? Thanks.

  • Direct Digital Output through Quicktime?

I've used iTunes for years (ever since my first iPod) and I've never had a problem with it. However two years ago I got a HiFi receiver. Nothing fancy or anything, but ever since I've been wondering if I could some how bypass my soundcard's DAC and get iTunes (through Quicktime? I'm assuming iTunes uses Quicktime to decode audio. If I'm wrong could someone please move this thread to the iTunes for Windows sub-forum?) to output directly to PCM through S/PDIF? My soundcard has the ports (both coaxial and Toslink), but the only way that I've so far found to do this is either with an Airport Express (which is pretty much $100 to connect my HiFi which is 2m away from my computer, although currently this is pretty much my only option) or through the 3rd party plugin, multi-plugin (and foobar 2000). Unfortunately multi-plugin doesn't support a version of iTunes that will support my iPod.
Does anybody know of any other way to get iTunes/Quicktime to output PCM directly and bypass my soundcard's DAC? I can get it to pass it to the soundcard, have the soundcard decode it and recode it to PCM/AC3, but that's basically going from digital to analogue to digital again which is a lossy conversion. 3rd party plugins are fine as long as they work with iTunes 7.4 or newer.
Plugging my iPod into the HiFi is not desirable as I would like to control the music from the computer.
    Thank you for reading.

Anybody? Are there any 3rd party plugins for iTunes/Quicktime that I haven't heard of?

  • Hot to output in QuickTime, codec H264, at 30fps

Hi.  I'm using Premiere Pro CS6.  I need to output my footage in QuickTime with H264 Codex at 30 fps - but when I use the drop down to select QuickTime Format and select H.264 as my codec, I don't see any place that lets me change my frames per second rate.
If I select H264 as my format in the Export Settings (instead of QuickTime), then I'm given a FrameRate drop down (this gives an mp4 file instead of mov file)
    Thanks

    Jon and Joe -
Thanks for the replies, especially the screen shot.
Not sure what was going on yesterday.  I just opened a new project and the Frame Rate drop down shows up (as in your screen shot).
Then re-opened the project I was working on yesterday and that works fine too.
Only thing I can think of is that the way I had my windows sized, my Basic Video Settings in the video tab must have cut off above the frame rate dropdown and I didn't notice the scroll bar to the right, indicating more content in that window.
Thanks again for the help.  I'd worked around things yesterday by creating a new sequence and giving it the required properties from the start, but was worried this would be a recurring problem.

  • 5.1 sourround sound output from QuickTime Player

Hello all, first time in the QuickTime forum (and I think I already answered an iBook question!). I have a 1.4GHz G4 Mac mini with an m-audio Sonica USB to get digital optical audio and 5.1 audio out of my computer to my stereo. This combination works great with Apple's DVD Player and the VLC Media Player and I get surround sound out of my DVDs and video files. However, QuickTime files, like the HD movie trailers, which say they have more audio tracks (and they're enabled), only play through the right & left front speakers. For Apple's DVD Player, I had to select the m-audio device as the digital audio output device. However, I can't seem to find an option like that in my QuickTime Player. I have Mac OS X 10.4.5 and QuickTime 7.0.4 (Pro). Is there something I'm missing to get all the tracks to play directly from the QuickTime Player?
    -Doug

There's a little bit of confusion going on here I think..
Okay, let me clear this up for you all!
Quicktime uses AAC 5.1 as it's 'surround' format. Most 5.1 (Optical) Speaker systems have a decoder which will only be able to decode Dolby Digital or DTS. AAC is a different format to these two, so.. the speakers end up having to just decode in to 2 speakers.
The solution would be either, in my case, a usb/firewire 'soundcard' which has 6 channel output direct for my Logitech Z-5500. Then the OS would know that the soundcard can handle 6 specific channels and you'd be able to select this in Midi Setup. Then Quicktime would happily decode AAC 'locally' on the mac and play each channel through the soundcard.

  • Output of Quicktime File from FCP 7 for iDVD

I just finished a client project using FCP 7 and he seems to have issues doing the following (on a MacBook Pro):
    1) Placing the file on the main hard drive
    2) Importing to QuickTime, or iMovie, iDVD
Ideally, my client would like to have the ability to burn the file onto iDVD.  Is there an Intermediate Codec for SD that may be supported?  My observations so far is the Intermediate Codec is in HD.

Does your client have the codec needed to read/play the file on his system?

  • HDV output to Quicktime problems

We have edited the trailer for a feature shot in 24p HD with the Sony V1U. The imported footage and trailer timeline are both set to 1080i60 at 29.97.
We are now trying to export the trailer (which is a little over 2 minutes) as a Quicktime file. The picture quality of the exported file is excellent, but each snippet of footage seems to end a beat or two earlier than how it plays in FCP. We have tried many different settings for the export and the problem persists. Anyone have a similar problem or know a solution?
    Thanks!
    MacPro   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

The problem is not just at the end. Each individual clip in the trailer (of which there are maybe 35-40 clips varying in length from 2 to 10 seconds each) is missing a bit at the end.
I found a helpful suggestion from stevemitchell on CreativeCow.net: "i'm also having a similar issue. things look and play fine from the timeline but when I export as a QT Conversion there's a problem...the video is out of sync by about 2 seconds. BUT, when I make a self-contained QT from the timeline, it exports fine."
I tried this. The exported file is a Final Cut movie file, so I had to add the .mov extension and then tell it to open in Quicktime. This fixed the timing issue (hooray!), but now the image quality is terrible (lines through image, etc). Also the file size is HUGE.
    Anyone have any ideas?

  • Exporting from Motion to Quicktime troubles

I have made a video montage in motion where I have several talking head clips scrolling from left to right. When I export my project to Quicktime the images are showing glitches. I exported through H.264, 24fps, 30fps, 60fps, Mpeg4 24fps, 30fpc, & 60fpc. all times with best quality selected. Any suggestions?
I am using Mac OSX G5, version 10.4.8, Processor 4/2.5 Ghz Power PCC, Memory 2GB 5DRAM, Motion 2.0.2 from FCP HD package.
    Thanks in advance

Thank you very much Chris. I works perfectly! You're the best!

  • Imovie output using quicktime problem

I need to place a .mov file that I created with imovie08 on a web page. I exported the move using quicktime. After posting on the webpage all of my PC friends couldn't view the movie. Some could hear the sound but not view the video. I told them that they needed to install quicktime, but they are still having the problem. Is there a better format in which to share the movie which has to be posted on a webpage? Is there an easy solution for these folks - most aren't very computer savvy.
    Thanks
    Steve

Thanks for your reply. Actually I can't post a link - the subject matter is somewhat confidential - it is a police training video for reserve recruits in how to write traffic citations. The content probably isn't all that confidential but it would be improper for it to get out into the web. The problem you mentioned is what I thought it would be. I can borrow a PC and see what results I get with it.
The real problem is that 99.5% of the people who are suppose to be watching it are probably running PCs.

  • ITunes and Quicktime Trouble

My iTunes was working fine but then I upgraded to iTunes version 6.0.5, only my music files will play now and all my music videos and other quicktime video formats don't work at all. In fact it say there is a problem with iTunes and it needs to shut down. I have tried to uninstall-reinstall but nothing I try fixes it.
Can anyone recommend something I can try to fix this? Thanks in advance.

Thank you Katrina S. for the recommendation. I tried it and the same thing happens. So it must not be anything that windows startup or other services that load up at startup. I believe it's something wrong with this version of Quicktime cause it was working fine before this version.
When I play a song in iTunes it plays fine. When I play a music video the program shuts down and the report a problem to Microsoft box pops-up. The same thing happens if I just have Quicktime only loaded. At that point I was trying all the taskbar options, that's when I found out about the update problem. I wasn't really trying to see if there was an update cause I have the latest version now. But the error I did get I should not have gotten, right? It should just come back and say you have the latest version, no updates available.
I have Norton Internet Security with Norton Anti-Virus installed with the latest updates installed. Run a virus check, no viruses reported.
At this point I really don't know what to try next. Can you think of anything else? Please HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    Thanks again folks.

  • QuickTime troubles with iTunes &

I have iTunes 6 and I'm trying to upgrade to 7. It seemed to download without any problems, but when I try to install it, I get a message saying "QuickTime was unable to install. iTunes requires Quicktime." I've unistalled my previous iTunes and QuickTime and tried again, but I get the same message. How do I install iTunes 7?

I get a message saying "QuickTime was unable to install. iTunes requires Quicktime."
with that one, let's get an itunes 7 installer log to the Apple engineers for a look.
    1. Open a command prompt window. (Start menu -> Run. Type in "cmd". Hit return.)
    2. Drag and drop iTunesSetup.exe onto the window so that the full pathname of the file is at the command line prompt.
    3. Type in a space, then the following line:
    /l*v C:\log.txt
    4. Hit return.
    5. The installer will create a log file:
    C:\log.txt
Find that file and send it as an attachment to this email address.
in the email to Roy, be sure to include the following information:
    - A link to the thread on Apple Discussions where the issue is being discussed
    - The username you are using in the thread
    - The version of iTunes you are using or trying to use
    - the version of Windows you are using (mention service packs)
    - A concise description of the issue you are seeing
    - The exact text of the error message you are seeing

  • Export quicktime trouble with splitted audio

Hi, I'm getting 4 movies of audio when "self contained" as a quicktime movie. It is a regualr NTSC 720x480 sequence. I put the "self contained" movie in my drive to share and nobody can read it Besides, I cannot burn DVDs anymore with those results. I really don't know what happened. Anyone getting something similar?
Thanks in advance for any comments.

I put the "self contained" movie in my drive to share and nobody can read it
Kevan has the answer to the file-splitting problem. But once you have that straightened out, the reason others may not be able to play it may be that they don't have FCP installed on their system. Right-click on the self-contained file and choose 'Get Info.' Change the 'Opens With' to QuickTime Player and add a .mov extension to the file name if it doesn't already have it.

  • Quicktime Export Error: "An output module stopped responding."

I'm experiencing an odd export error whenever I use any Quicktime codecs:
"After Effects error: An output module stopped responding. The file may be damaged or corrupted. You may need to restart After Effects."
Similarly, Adobe Media Encoder hangs when outputting to Quicktime codecs. Neither program makes any progress at all before the hang occurs. At that point, I have to manually "end task" to exit. Also, it doesn't seem to matter what I try to export. In AME, for example, I can simply try to convert one video format to another and have it hang, so I don't think the problem is due to a problem with the source settings or effects. Also, I'm not attempting any multiprocessing since I don't really have enough RAM for that. Other output modules work, so I'm just exporting image sequences for the time being.

Any thoughts on this? I've seen very few references to this error in other places, and not really found a solution that seems to apply to my situation. Thanks in advance for your help.
    Josh

Thanks for setting me in the right direction. Clicking through to the 25 :: 101 error page (http://myleniumerrors.com/2013/01/06/25-101-4/) led me to a reference about other software, such as remote access software, using the same ports that AE needs for communication with its various processes. In my case, LogMeIn was the culprit. I had no idea that AE even used TCP for these types of operations, so that's very helpful to know.
    *EDIT*
That worked temporarily, and now it doesn't work. I ran into a similar effect when I first disabled the Windows Firewall. But of course, as I type this and piddle around, it works again. It SEEMS like if I open AME and click into the output settings and scrub through the video preview, it makes everything work when I go to actually export. That's exactly the type of thing I would say is completely unrelated under normal circumstances, but at the moment all I know is that it is currently working and I don't want to test anything else until I finish the rendering I need to accomplish today. I'll work on it more later and post an update at that time.
    Thanks,
    Josh

  • IMovie Quicktime Output Whitewashed on PC

I'm seeing something strange when I output my iMovie HD output to Quicktime. It works just fine on the Quicktime 7 player on my MacBook Pro. But the Quicktime Player on a Dell PC (Windows XP) is displaying the .mov file nearly completely whited out. Is there a trick to this? I know the Quicktime Player on the PC works fine in most circumstances, but I had to output the movie to AVI (yuk) so I could get the movies to my target audience.

    Sue,
An interesting article, but since it applies to QT playback on Macs, it probably doesn't diretly apply to viewing his clip on a PC.
However the QT CODEC used and color profile used probably ARE where his problem lies.
    hajush,
What QuickTime encoding did you use? If yoy can't remember, open the clip in the QuickTime Player on a Mac and select Window>Show Movie Info
