Outputting All Macbook Audio via Airplay

I'd love to cut the cord to my speakers entirely. So... is it possible to output ALL audio from my laptop to my various Airplay devices?

  • Can't stream audio via Airplay to Denon X4000 receiver

I have a late 2013 Macbook Pro with 13-inch Retina Display. It came preloaded with Mavericks. I'm trying to stream audio via airplay to my Denon X4000 receiver which is airplay certified. For some reason airplay only works with iTunes. If I go into the sound preferences in Mac OS X my Denon X4000 receiver is listed as an audio output device but OS X won't let me click on it. It immediately reverts back to the laptop's internal speakers. I just recently started having this problem as of tonight when I tried to listen to music from Google Play Music. Has Apple decided to force iTunes down everybody's throat? How do I fix this?

This is from the Web page at Denon, confirmimg what you have found. I don't know if it is a Denon restriction or Apple.
    http://usa.denon.com/us/product/pages/productdetail.aspx?catid=avreceivers(denon na)&pid=avrx4000(denonna)
Equipped with Apple’s AirPlay function, the AVR-X4000 lets you stream your favorite tracks from your iPod touch, iPhone and iPad via your home network. You can also access your favorite iTunes tracks from your computer or connect your portable device directly via the front panel USB port.

  • My apple tv was previously and now all of the sudden stopped playing sound from my macbook air via airplay

I was using airplay to stream from my macbook air on my tv via apple tv and when i paused the sound stopped and now will not resume.  I have reset both and both are fully updated. Please help

Dowload the program BEAMER, its far superior to AIRPLAY, theres a free 30 day trial. See if it works on that. Beamer is the best app for wifi of VIDS to your AppleTV
    http://beamer-app.com/
also, try a diff VID format, AIRPLAY doesn’t support all VID formats (beamer does however).
I cant live without beamer, you can multitask on your Mac  WHILE beaming high-def to your Apple TV, ….Airplay wont do that reliably.
    Process of elimination diagnosis!

  • How do I connect Bowers & Wilkins speakers to my MacBook Pro via AirPlay?

The speakers connect with my iPhone & iPad no problem but the speakers do not show under the AirPlay icon on the top toolbar of my MacBook Pro.
When I go into Preferences > Sound > Output, I can then see the speakers but my Bluetooth speaker connection seems to take precedent - i.e. I can't change it to the B&W - I actually want to use both as the speakers are located in different rooms.
    Thank you

The Airplay Icon on the menu bar running along the top of the screen, is for 'Airplay Mirroring' to an Apple TV. Audio is managed by Sound Preferences.
In Sound Preferences you can only select 1 audio output device as this is associated with 'System Audio' (from Safari and notifcations).
In order to use both the Bluetooth speaker and an Airplay speaker at the same time, I recommend using iTunes, as you're able to select multiple speakers.

  • Can MacBook Pro output digital audio via usb?

I'd like to output digital audio via usb. Can it be done from iTunes? This would allow me to go directly to my dac and then to my preamp.
    Thanks.

Russell, there are quite a variety of devices that accept digital audio over USB from any mac with a USB port - see http://www.trendsaudio.com/EN/Product/USBAudiodesc.htm for one example.
Try a google on MAC USB Audio OUTPUT any you should pop up some useful options.
    Cheers

  • Apple TV won't send sound from video (via AirPlay) to Sabrent WiFi Audio Adapter

    Hello All.
    First, my basic setup is:
Apple TV, connected to projector via HDMI, also connected to 2.4gHz wifi network
Sabrent WiFi audio receiver (model WF-RADU), connected to 2.4gHz wifi network
MacBook Air (2013), connected to 5.0gHz wifi network (specifying the wifi spectrum as having the macbook and Apple TV on same spectrum had previously led to significant lag)
In the Apple TV settings, I've selected the Sabrent device as the AirPlay speaker. This will work for streaming audio if I play music directly from the Apple TV (such as streaming an iTunes album I'd purchased). However, when I connect the MacBook to the Apple TV (via AirPlay), the audio comes out the projector speaker, NOT the Sabrent device. My goal of course is for the video from the Apple TV to be sent to the projector, and the audio to be sent to the Sabrent device (plugged into a standard speaker).
Seriously flummoxed here, as I expected this to work seamlessly. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Ryan

No, do not have micro usb cable. if it is a big deal, I can get, although have restored back to factory settings which 'appeared' to be successful. Although did not solve issue

  • Streaming from MacBook Air to Apple TV via Airplay mirroring causes stuttering

So... I'm trying to stream video from Safari on my Mac to my Apple TV via Airplay mirroring. Most of the time, the video starts off just fine, but after a while, it begins to stutter and lag on my Apple TV. The video is playing just fine on my Mac, but as it's mirrored over to the Apple TV, it begins to stutter and lag on the Apple TV only; not on my Mac. I then quit out of Safari, turn off wifi on my Mac, restart the Apple TV and restart my Time Capsule. Once I do that, it works fine, intermittently for a bit, and then starts to give out again.
I have a 2013 13" MacBook Air with 8 GB's of RAM, an Apple TV 2 and 3, a previous generation Time Capsule (802.11n), and 50 Mbps wifi from AT&T Uverse.
What gives? What am I doing wrong? Shouldn't this stream just fine under these circumstances?
Thanks for any help you can provide.
    P.

    Hey vazandrew,
Thanks for the update on the encryption piece. I didn't know that. I thought you meant something like using a VPN.
And yeah, 4 years is a while. I just figured if the drive was still humming along all should be well. I didn't think that performance could be affected in this way just from using an old router.
The issue does occur on both Apple TV's. Near the Apple TV's are just my TV sets. One ATV also has speakers nearby it. The ATV's are not sitting inside of a closed space. They're on top of the entertainment unit. The rest of the appliances are below and inside the unit.
Near the Time Capsule is the Uverse Gateway modem for my cable tv, a Motorola SB6141 modem for my internet with Atlantic Broadband (I mistakenly mentioned initially that my internet was with Uverse), an APC battery backup, my HP printer, a USB hub, a power strip, and a couple of unplugged external hard drives.
    Thank you again.

  • Why is my Macbook audio output not working in stereo?

    Hi,
    I'm on a Macbook 5.1 (aluminium unibody), running 10.6.8.
I'm using some iPod headphones. I've checked the audio separation on them by running some test tracks through them on my iPhone. They work fine.
The left/right balance seems to be working on my output. The left/right balance in 'Sound' preferences works fine. Likewise, in Audio MIDI Setup,  I can mute either the left or right track.
However, all the audio that I'm playing comes out in mono. In particular, I've been using this test, http://www.richardfarrar.com/are-your-speakers-wired-correctly/.
Does anyone know why this might be happening? The fact that I can adjust the left/right balance and mute one of the channels suggests to me that it is not a hardware problem. Any ideas would be much appreciated!
    Thanks,

  • Having difficulty -- via airplay -- w/ streaming sites from ipad2 to g2 apple tv -- get audio but not video -- what gives???

having difficulty - via airplay --w/ streaming sites from ipad2 to g2 apple tv -- get audio but not video -- what gives???

What site are you trying to watch?  I just tested 3.  The you tube app streams from the pad to apple tv fine, as long as the source video format is ok.  Checked a site called funny or die.com. Most of the videosmthere stream to apple tv fine.  A few have a different format, and do audio only.  Netflix does not stream at all, but you can get to netflix directly from apple tv.  Whether or not it streams is directly related to the format of the video.  Some do, some dont.

  • Unable to relay audio to AirPlay speakers VIA AppleTV.

    Hi,
    So I just bought a Pioneer SMA4 Airplay speaker, which in itself is working perfectly (amazing sound BTW);
    - iPhone > Spotify/AirPlay audio/video to > Pioneer: Check
    - Mac > iTunes audio to > Pioneer: Check
    - AppleTV2 > AirPlay audio/video to > Pioneer: Check
However, when I send audio/video from either iPhone/Mac to AppleTV2, it does not relay the audio to the (default selected) AirPlay speaker. The AppleTV then just sends the audio to my TV speakers (over HDMI).
(All software/firmware on all devices is up to date.)
    Background;
    Two reasons for doing this:
    - I want to be able to watch movies on my Mac and stream the audio/video over AppleTV the AirPlay speaker.
    - I would like to set this up as a multi (two) room solution; one speaker on optical audio + one speaker via AirPlay.
Hoping for a solution, or I'll return the AirPlay speaker...
    Cheers, Joost

Ok thanks! I would say it is a design flaw, but that’s my 2 cents.

  • Audio output in Macbook.

on my macbook when I open "audio midi setup" under audio output it says "output is not supported". the output works fine, the speakers or headphones work, I plugin an optical cable and in DVD Player it detects the "digital output" but I can't select to change the output settings in audio midi setup. anyone know whats wrong?

Are you using a miniTOS optical cable in the headphone port?
I just got one today which I use with my amp. In audio MIDI setup, under Audio Devices, my default output and system output are both set to "Built-in Output".
Then when I select properties for "Default Output", I can configure speakers, source, format etc.
I assume this is a normal setup, because everything is workign fine, so just check that you have all the same options selected as me.
I haven'y yet tested 5.1 or encrypted audio or anything with a DVD yet though.

  • MacBook Audio Output Not Working, Except for Garageband?

    Good day everyone,
I have a 13-inch MacBook '08, current version 10.6.8 (can't upgrade to OS X Mavericks – hardware is too old), and I've had a serious problem, and I feel that I've tried EVERYTHING to fix it.
My Macbook audio output does not work AT ALL while trying to stream video (i.e. YouTube, Vimeo, etc.) or listen to music. When I play with the audio adjustment buttons, it doesn't even make the "popping" sound. It DOES however have audio output when I open Garageband and play the instruemnts i.e. Grand Piano. It also plays the "start up" sound when I boot my MacBook up. Otherwise, the audio seems to not work at all.
I've played with the "Sound" settings on "System Preferences." I've played with the audio jack (note: there's not red light, so that's not the problem), I've blown into the hole, stuck paper clips in there and fiddled around... nothing. Please help, I'll take any advice!
    Thanks in advance.

Well, even though the input jack had no red light, I performed the actions demonstrated on YouTube in the video "How to fix macbook red light head phone jack" and the problem is fixed.

  • Can an iPod Touch Stream Live Audio via Wifi through airplay?

I would like to stream the audio from a PA system running in one building to another building on the same site. The distance is too far for a wireless speaker system, as well as for a strictly Airport based network. What I am wondering is if it would be possible to use an Ipod Touch to input audio from the PA and use airplay to output the audio via an Airport Express in the other building?

What I am wondering is if it would be possible to use an Ipod Touch to input audio from the PA and use airplay to output the audio via an Airport Express in the other building?
Sorry, but no. The basic issue would be how to get the PA audio "into" the iPod Touch.

  • How can I get an itunes movie from macbook to apple tv via airplay, how can I get an itunes movie from macbook to apple tv via airplay

how can I get an itunes movie from macbook to apple tv via airplay?

You don't use Airplay.  You set up Home Sharing on both and under the Computers section of AppleTV you'll then find it under Movies (or Rentals if rented), assuming it's in a compatible format.

A black airplay info window floats around on my HDTV screen when sending audio content via airplay up to sound system w Apple TV.  How can I get rid of this?

Had this happen to me after a recent update, was super annoying.  To turn off, go to Settings > AirPlay > Conference Room Display > Off.
