Outside audio

Is it possible to use a mini jack headphone extension and go from the itouch headphone out to audio input on your stereo ? thanx

Yes, this is possible. The cable required can be gotten at any store that sells electronics, Radio Shack, best Buy, Target, etc.

  • Recorded Audio Ruined by conforming when importing outside audio.

I've been having an issue where I record a commentary for a gameplay, and the audio comes out perfect when sampled at 48000hz, but then if I try to import some outside mp3s for sound effects, it changes the pitch of my voice and the other audio is imported at its regular pitch. How can I reverse this so that if anything, my gameplay commentary is not ruined?

    Welcome to the forum.
One thought would be to convert those MP3 SFX files to PCM/WAV @ 48KHz 16-bit.
For any MP3 music files, I do that as part of my normal workflow. However, I have several collections of SFX files in MP3, that have never caused an issue - those, I just use in their supplied MP3 format. However, other collections might not work so perfectly, and MP3's, in general, CAN cause issues.
Hope that helps, and I would try converting just a very few and testing.
Good luck, and let us know if that helps,

  • HP Mini 1030NR Bad audio, very Tinny and low...

I purchased the mini around christmas of last year and I was hoping this would have been resolved but the audio driver is still nothing like I expected.  It is far too tinny and low even after it has had the latest updated drivers.
I have been unable to find help online or with tech support.  They have recommended trying other driver sites, but they have no direct links to specific drivers and will not support outside audio drivers.
    Any ideas?
Everything else about the machine is great!

I have heard this complaint about the MINIs from other people as well. To the best of my knowledge there is nothing really to be done about it. The speakers in those notebooks are about the size of a quarter, they simply do not put out much noise, or very high quality noise. There are speakers of that size that put out better sound, but they cost considerably more, and the concept of the MINI is a ultra-portable notebook for an affordable price, and the speakers are one of the trade-offs. I would recomend, if the sound quality is important to you, putting the money that would have been in the cost of the notebook towards a nice set of earphones or travel-sized speakers.
They may eventualy release a driver that could concievably make the sound better, but no driver will ever be able to change what the speakers are physicaly capable of.

  • Rerouting ONLY SPECIFIC PROGRAMS/AUDIO to microphone

    Hello,
I'm a soundboard junkie that likes to play them in games such as MW2 or any game that has voice chat. I have an x-fi xtremegamer soundcard, it was cheap. In order to play sound files through the mic I have set my recording device to "what u hear". In order to play a specific sound in a game I use a keyboard/mouse scripting program to depress the transmit key in the game, mute the game itself (because it is outputting music that I dont want to transmit), play the specific audio file for a specified length of time, then release the transmit key, and unmute the game. This way works well for transmitting crystal clear audio through voice chat. The downside to this is that the game itself is mutted and I cannot hear the other players while I am transmitting.
More recently I have hooked up my laptop to the microphone jack on my desktop computer. This allows me to keep the recording device set to microphone (which is actually the laptops sound output) and bypass any volume controls as the only sounds playing through the mic is whats playing on the laptop. The downside to this is that I have encountered a lot of line noise which is due to the jack on the laptop (as I move it around the noise increases). The laptop is a cheap ol' Acer with a realtek soundcard.
My question... is there a way, with some sort of mixer program, to have the soundboard sent to either "what u hear" or the game itself?
I have searched the internet somewhat and realize that this probably isnt possible, unless you are running an older game like TFC or CS that will accept outside audio inputs. I just thought I'd ask the experts.

If I recall correctly, WWDC introduction to Mavericks 10.9 they showed this feature to come. But maybe that is just the same Dock on different moniters.
You can certainly add mutiple desktops but the Dock is the same.  Mission Control move mouse top right of screen for +

  • The Audio Output Signal is very weak and distorted. The Buil-In Speakers work ok. Whatcould be the problem???

    Hello,
I spilled some liquid on my desk close to the Laptop. I proceeded immidiately to remove the MacBook Pro from the spillage site and dried the outside. The MacBook was not in use at the time and the lid was closed. Two hours later my wife used the computer and initially it functioned alright, however, after about 20 minutes it all of a sudden died and could not be re-started. Later that evening I tried a few more times to re-start and was partially sucessful for a few seconds at the time. The next day I opened the Back Cover and noticed the dried residue of the spillage on the battery cover as well as on the motherboard.
I proceeded very cautiously to remove the stains and followed up with a hairdryer to remove any possible residue of moisture.
After that, the MacBook Pro funtioned normally again, with the exception that the analogue audio output no longer supports an earphone, or any outside audio amplifier or TV set. I must add that there is some presence of audio when I increase the volume setting to high, but the bass sounds are very distorted.
My question is, do I have to exchange the "Motherboard" in order to resolve this problem?
I would very much appreciate any suggestions you may have!
    Regards,
    Hank

  • HP Pavillion dv6 notebook audio recording issue! (windows 7, 64bit)

Hello! This is my first post here, as this is my first issue with this computer. My microphones won't pick up any sound- this computer has two different ones, an integrated one and an outer one, and yet neither work. Troubleshooting only picks up whether they're enabled or not, and I've tried recording after enabling them and disabling them, restarting, etc. I've checked with Beats Audio and they're turned on there as well, and the drivers say they are up to date. Yet nothing is working, when I used to voice recognition test it wouldn't even pick up any outside audio.
I should note that the webcam doesn't work as well, because when I bought it, it would disconnect the internal camera often, and when trying to fix it, someone uninstalled the driver or something - though at the time, audio still recorded just fine and I didn't need the webcam.

Hello katrapezo.  I understand you're having some trouble recording audio.
Have you tried recording in another application such as Sound Recorder?
I'd also like you to remove your audio drivers and allow Windows to reinstall them.  Here are the steps.
Click Start, type "Device Manager," and press Enter.
Expand the "Sound, video, and game controllers" section.
Right click on your sound card and select "Uninstall."
    Reboot your computer.
    Verify whether the problem persists.
Also, what is your notebook's product number?  This document can show you where it is located.
    Have a wonderful day.
Please click the white star under my name to give me Kudos as a way to say "Thanks!"
Click the "Accept as Solution" button if I resolve your issue.

  • Audio sync problem once burned. Everything great in iMovie, once exported to iDVD and burned audio is 20 minutes out of sync.

My movie is a wedding, so it's 1 hr 35 min long. I've used 3 songs from iTunes and no other outside audio. I've tried the following already:
Changing the encoding settings from Best Performance to Professional Quality. (becuase an error came up saying movie is too long, change encoder setting)
Changing the Single-Layer Disc to Double-Layer Disc.
Splitting the video into 2 parts to make it shorter.
Getting rid of the noise reduction on a few of the clips.
    Optimize--Full.
I get things that say 'error -41' etc. but I googled this and nothing came up as to what that error code means.
Is the amount of free space I have on my Mac a possible problem as well? I have 40 GB available. I tried moving all of the rejected clips to the trash and an error came up saying not enough space to delete.
Can I uninstall '11 and go back to using '09??

    Hi
Error -41   mFulErr  Memory full (open) or file won't fit (load)
So if You've really got 40Gb free space on Start-Up (Mac OS) hard disk - Others DO NOT count as neither iDVD or Mac OS can use space there for it's temp files.
Then I would close down Mac even disconnect Mains - Then re-start it and see if it got's it's memory right.
    Else
    • Audio from iTunes - use to give me problems - so I do - in iTunes
    • collect the needed audio into a new PlayList
    • Burn this out as an Audio-CD (.aiff) - NOT .mp3
    • Use thge files on this CD in movie projects
    Works for me.

  • Understanding Audio Mixing

I'm trying to understand audio mixing. Is this the same as FCP audio tracks being in stereo? This question stems from a project that is still in the rough cut stage that was put to DVD where one channel of audio couldn't be heard. When other DVD's of the project where played on various DVD players (stand alone and computer) both channels can be heard. Usually when I create FCP projects I'm dealing with narration/dialoge and any b-roll audio that may be needed; therefore, I pan my A1 channel to -1 and my A2 channel to 1. This works for outputing to DV cam for an outside audio house to do the final mix. Due to budgeting constraints I'm now being asked to "finish" projects and just want to understand what mixing is and how do you go about doing it.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Mac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   Final Cut Pro 5.0.4

I can't imagine any DVD player would be mono. DVD is a new enough technology that all DVD players should be capable of a stereo audio signal.
So, if your important audio is panned up the middle, the problem isn't your stereo mix, and it's not the DVD player. It's that someone has set it up wrong. And I don't mix my programs down because some moron can't set up their DVD player properly.
Sounds to me like someone left one of the audio plugs out of their player/tv connection. Or the TV only has one input and they didn't bother bridging the R/L together.
Call me an elitist, call me an a*hole, whatever you want, but I mix my program so it sounds good. From 5.1 down to stereo. I don't mess with mono unless a client specifically requests it.
Imagine what life would be if classic action movies like Seven or the Fifth Element had been mixed for that moron with a cable unplugged in the back of their tv. I'm not going to dumb down my program for these types. Hollywood isn't, why should I? They've obviously become used to only hearing half the program.
If your client specifically requests a mono program, do it. I'm generally my own client, and I wouldn't put out a mono program to cater to the folks who can't hook their equipment up properly.

  • How do I get my old Surround Mixer recording sources back?

I recently had my computer repaired where I basically had a complete overhaul. In the process they installed a second soundcard (the one that went with the new motherboard) alongside my original Creative Sound Blaster Audigy card (Sound Blaster Audigy Platinum eX). Before, when I would record audio into my computer, I opened the Surround Mixer software and in the record pulldown menu it showed all of the inputs as they relate to my Audigy interface (SPDIF, Aux In 2, Line In 2, etc.). Now when I open the Surround Mixer software, I only get generic options such as Analog Mix, CD Digital, Microphone, etc. and therefore I can't get any outside audio into my computer.
I figured the computer?was defaulting to the?new sound card so I disabled the onboard audio in my BIOS and then installed the Creative Sound Blaster Series 2 Driver. I clicked on the driver and it said that it needed to uninstall another driver that was already there. The install went a little funny and it got hung up a couple of times. Then, I couldn't get Surround Mixer to work at all so I went to the Creative website and installed Software Auto Update. I downloaded and installed all the critical components?but that also went a little funny. It took about three tries and it didn't seem like it actually finished installing, but when I checked on Auto Update again, it said that I was up to date and that everything had installed. I noticed at the beginning that it installed a new version of Surround Mixer but when I opened it later, it still had those same generic options, not the the ones that match my external interface.
What do I need to do to get my original settings back?

    >Re: How do I get my old Surround Mixer recording sources back?p audiodrome,
Is the external Audigy Dri've properly connected? Does the Plat Ex have the rear jacks? If so, can you record from the rear LineIn or mic jack and play sound files through headphones or speakers? What happens when you run the Creative Diagnostic? What does Device Manager show? Otherwise, yes, uninstall and reinstall the Creative software. If your install CD has a repair option, try that first. However, you may find you need to remove the Audigy from your PC, reboot without it, and then reinstall everything. Some Soundblaster cards don't play well with some integrated soundcards, so you may also want to disable the integrated soundcard in BIOS.

  • Varying volumes...how to adjust them?

I've found that with most master mixes from artist to artist, the volume won't be all quite the same from song to song. Anyone who has put together their own personal mix to CD knows this.
Same deal goes once brought into DVDSP. You will have varying volume from clip to clip. For example, the loop brought in for Menu 1, could be louder than a selected Track.
Is there a way to make all of my audio clips the same volume? Or put a different way, any way to make any audio brought in for menu looping be the same volume as the Tracks?
I hope you don't say that you have to use an outside audio editor, because that to me would be rather ridiculous for such a powerful program not to have some sort of basic audio editing capabilities. A volume control for clips? Genius!
    Thanks!

There is absolutely no control of the volume in DVD SP. You need to do that to the original videos in FCP.

  • Moving projects to external drive to save space

    Hey guys,
My internal hard drive is running low on space. However, I have an external hard drive with plenty of space.
Some of my projects are up to 3-5 gigabytes in size. I'd like to know how to properly transfer these projects to my external hard drive so that I can have more room on my internal hard drive without affecting my project.
What I've tried is moving a project folder to my external and moving it back to my internal if I try opening it up again. The issue is that a lot of the audio files cannot be found once when I re-open my project off my internal (or external) hard drive.
What am I doing wrong? How do you guys deal with this issue of running out of space and needing to move your Logic files to an external hard drive? Thanks!

    castlljs wrote:
Maybe I need to better understand how a project refers to audio files. This is how I understand it...
Whenever an audio file is made within a project (bouncing a track, recording vocals with a mic), that file automatically gets created in the "Audio Files" folder. If a project is referring to an audio file that exists in a different project folder or something else completely different (not sure why it would,
...I think there are many people that have audio files that are used in several projects. Not too odd.
but just hypothetically), then is it supposed to be able to find and refer to that audio file in it's non-project folder location since it didn't "move" with the project folder?
Right. A socalled "absolute path" is in the project file: on +that exact location+ it is. So only if you somehow move that file to any other location (or rename any folder in its path), it'll no longer be found by your project.
However, I think Logic does not use absolute paths anymore, just relative: it should be in "This project folder/Audio files" , no matter where "This project folder" is. So move or copy, the paths travel with it and do not change.
If not, is it possible that when I move a project folder to my external, the project attempts to change...
No, a file that is not open cannot be accessed. The CONTENT of your project file will not change.
...where it refers to an audio file? In other words, does the project know that it should refer to audio files folder within the same project folder, even if that project folder moved from my internal to external hard drive?
That is what (I hope) I explained above.
But then it gets messed up since the audio file was something out side of the project folder to begin with?
Depending on what the ... you did with those audio files (have you looked for them already?), it COULD be that the project file has an absolute path for "outside" audio files, and that you moved those audio files or whatnot, and the absolute path has gone and the project cannot locate it. But if you have not touched them, the project should locate them anyway.
Just trying to figure out why one of my projects transferred successfully while the others didn't.
You first have to remember where your files were, or are. Find 'm!
And when in doubt, use *Include Assets* .

  • How do I record an audio source outside of Logic while in Logic?

Hi everyone, I have a question I would like to address to the forum.
How do I record an audio source outside of Logic while in Logic? For example, I would like to record the audio off a youtube video or dvd to be then used in Logic. I am using a Dididesign M-Box Mini for both my audio input and audio output i.e. all sound is coming in and out of the M-Box. I hope this is an easy question to answer (I am a new Mac user). Thanks in advance.

Use the 3.5mm audio out jack on the back of your computer. Connect it to your audio interface, and record like normal. You need an adapter cable. ( 3.5mm stereo to two 1/4 inch mono) see link.

I am importing a video and in iMovie the video is now white. the audio still plays and I can play the video properly outside of iMovie so any help is good?

I going to recommend again, downloading and installing some video helper applications.
    1. http://perian.org/ (this will add a number of different file types to the ones QuickTime already plays)
    2. http://www.divx.com/en/software/mac (will add more file types to what QuickTime can play)
Either one of these might be necessary to get MPEG Streamclip to export the video. Failing that the only other thing I have found is an obscurve discussion thread on Avid.com:
    http://duc.avid.com/archive/index.php/t-277791.html
I've figured out what the problem is on my end. The video came from Avid on a Windows machine and was encoded with Squeeze. I found out that the 2 seconds of black at the top of the video were at a different frame rate than the rest of the video. I chopped off the 2 seconds of black and started at the first frame of video, exported it with Quicktime Pro and was able successfully view the video in ProTools. Apparently Squeeze will let you create a movie file that has different frame rates within the same movie... This fixed my issue that was exactly as you describe, hopefully it might work for you.
Lastly, you could try converting the video clip using HandBrake

    Hello Fellow iBook Authors!
Today I received the same error that you all have been discussing.  I tried selecting the DRM
and this did not work for me, though I'm glad it did for some.  Here's what I did as a work-around. . .
Since iBooks Author did not have a problem with Videos, I simply used one of my video programs, ScreenFlow to turn the audio into a video file m4v.  I added an image and extended the length or timing of the image to span the length of the audio file.  Then exported as an .mov.  I then opened QuickTime and opened the file and exported the file to iTunes.
You can use iMovie, Camtasia or any other progam that will allow you to export the audio as a movie file.  Does this make sense?  I hope this helps, at least in the short-term.
