Over 24 hours to download less than 2-1/2 hours of TV reruns.

Is there some way of prompting iTunes Store to speed up a download to a rate of speed measurable in Kbps rather than simply in bytes per second?
For the past several months, iTunes Store has been really unreliable in mantaining a feasable rate of download. But this time really cuts it.
I bought 3 episodes of "The Universe" a good 18 hours ago and they haven't all finished downloading on a broadband connection that doesn't even notice what little bit of nothing iTunes is doing. I still have three files in the process of downloading: two low-def files showing 5 hours remaining each and one HD file showing 13 hours remaining.
I have experienced unpredicatably slow downloads from iTunes Store on two different broadband ISPs, both Norton and McAfee antivirus, neither of which is blocking iTunes from using the internet, and 32-bit iTunes on 32-bit XP as well as 64-bit iTunes on 64-bit Windows 7.
I have quit renting movies from iTunes because I can't get them when I have time to watch them and am considering consigning iTunes to the content I already have and buying all future content from other sources.
A complaint to the email support form on this site got a pre-written reply pasted in about what to do about something blocking iTunes from connecting at all. Probably too much to ask that my reply be forwarded to the supervisor of the employee who pasted that in to a response apparently without bothering to read the complaint to which he was calling himself addressing.

"Norton & McAfee? I hope they're not both installed on the same PC! You could also try temporarily turning them off - they might not be blocking the itunes store connecting, but real-time scanning the files being downloaded and causing that to be really slow."
I mean that the problem has come and gone unpredictably for a period of time during which I have changed each of those things. Different ISP (both broadband), uninstalling Norton and installing McAfee because Norton's website didn't want to function as advertised on the renewal and upgrade, trying instead to steer me to the more expensive new purchase of the upgraded product, and finally upgrading my computer from Windows XP to Windows 7, which required a clean install of a new system.
This and the sometimes does, sometimes doesn't nature of the sluggish downloads suggests to me that the problem is at Apple's end as a server getting busy and not wanting to send data out at a feasable rate of transfer. This because of the things I've seen happen on-line that is the one thing with which the problem is consistent, and happens regardless of what else I do or don't do on my computer while buying downloads. Not to mention the CPU meter gadget showing no difference in CPU and memory usage between downloading (at a fraction of dial-up speed over my broadband connection) or not.

    In additon to this forum, we contacted Apple Ibookstore support and this afternoon they may have provided the explantion:
    According to Apple:
    "iBookstore that change frequently including top charts and any featured placement sections (IE: New and Noteworthy sand other special or seasonal sections). All featured placement is solely at the discretion of Apple and isn't guaranteed. If your book was in one of these prominent sections or top charts before and is no longer there, this might be what you are noticing in your numbers."
    Fortunately for us, our authors probably got us featured placement for 2 years. Unfortunately for us, after 2 years it appears we were shoved aside for another pretty face. Thus, book sales imploded.
    We thank Apple for answering our inquiries and providing us with useful information as to how to (hopefully) drive sales back up.

    If I remember well with past ios for iphones and ipads, we were able to download one song/movie/serie etc at a time instead of three. I don't see anymore this option. Is it still possible?

    No, 25 is the smallest increment that you can set mail to retrieve.
    Something you can try is go into your gmail account > settings > pop and forwarding.
    Disable pop on the account and save.
    Now enable pop for email from now forward.
    Hopefully this will enable pop for just email from now forward.

    When attempting to sync, enable "Sync only checked songs and videos". Check off the songs you want and uncheck the ones you don't want. After that, iTunes will sync the checked songs.
    If you want (to reduce memory space), try converting songs into different format with lower bitrate (AAC+ 128kbps as example):

    try this
    Reboot device by pressing both the home button and sleep/wake (power) buttons at the same time for 10-15 seconds until the apple logo appears on the screen, then let go.
    if that doesn't work then connect to a computer and try to open the device in itunes

    I added a contact on my Mac Mini yesterday and it keeps adding the same contact over and over.. up to 4,600 duplicates and counting.. How do I stop it?
    Here was the exact sequence.
    1. Added a contact in Contacts.app on my Mac running OSX Mavericks 10.9
    2. Contact was added to Contacts.app successfully.
    3. Noticed only one contact in Contacts.app on Mac.
    4. Opened Contacts on my iPhone 5S running 7.0.4 and searched for contact.
    5. Noticed duplicates in Contacts on my iPhone 5S.
    6. Looked at Contacts.app on Mac, Still only one.
    7. Checked iPhone again, noticed several more contacts added and the data spin icon working in the status bar and more being added as I was watching.
    8. Opened icloud via web browser, noticed same thing in the Contacts section.
    9. Shutdown, Mac (thinking there was a bit of code open ended code)
    10. turned off all iCloud Contacts on all iOS devices linked to this icloud account.
    11. Less than 24 hours later... 4,600++ duplicate contacts in icloud and counting.
    12. As I am writing this I deleted icloud from my mac.. thinking this is the bug's origination point.
    what's next??

    Step 12 Stopped the duplicate contact.

    I am migrating to a MBP Retina running latest 10.7. I am using migration assistant to import a user from my new Time Capsule.   It's stuck on "Less than a minute remaining" for over a few hours that I noticed it.  What should I do?
    (Yes, I am on Wireless N and I do not own a ethernet adapter)

  • Why should it take over an hour to export a video that is less than 2 minutes long?

    The short clip I have is only 1;51 long, but Media Encoder has been slaving away at it for over 20 minutes and still says over an hour remaining. The only thing I am doing differently with this clip is I have sped up the action x10 to give it a "Keystone Kops" effect. (The duration of the raw video totals about 17 minutes.)  I've also added about three titles and an MP3 sound file. Tried to export first to F4V, then gave up and am now trying export to plain AVI, but it is taking forever!
    Dell T3400 dual core 3.2 gHz. Two 1T hard drives in a RAID stripe 0 configuration. 4g ram. Running Windows 7 Release Candidate (which I LOVE!).
    The clips are from my JVC Everio GZ-HM200BU HD camera set at lowest picture quality (for longer recording).
    Any ideas?

    OK, well... where to start...
    First, as to Windows 7, I appreciate your admonishment, but I have had no problems yet that I attribute to the OS. The main reason I switched to W7 is not for bonus points, but because Explorer will natively show thumbnails of the AVCHD files from my cameras. Vista would not do that. I am sure you'd agree that this is an important and very helpful feature. No other add-in program for Vista have I found would do that for me. It may be out there, but we haven't crossed paths yet.
    Secondly, I have had no other problem encoding video before this particular one. Most of the videos I produce are for our company website (http://www.topographic.com) to be viewed as a FLV or F4V file, and there have been no problems with that. I did create a video that was over 1-1/2 hours long that was written to DVD, but that took, without surprise, over 4 hours to complete, including the transcoding and DVD writing in Encore. (This one that was giving me problems is only 1-1/2 minutes in length, and is not being written to a DVD.)
    This particular video I tried first in F4V, but when it seemed to be drawing out so long, I canceled and restarted it as an AVI. And that one went on for well over an hour before it finished. The main thing that is different from this video, as I explained in my original post, is that the raw video was 17 minutes long, sped up by PPro x10 for fast action (you can see it here: http://www.topographic.com/video/booth_setup.html - I am the guy in the dark blue shirt).
    As a comparison, I exported another video that is not yet completed, just as a test. That video is 44 seconds long and it took only 5 minutes to encode. All things being equal, this video would have taken at least 30 minutes to encode if conditions were the same as the video I was having trouble with.  I have to believe that the problem would be the compressed timeline for speeding up the action.
    As further comparison, I created a test video with the raw clips for the troublesome video and exported it to an AVI file. It was a 17-minute video which took 31 minutes to encode. This seems to be consistent with my previous test.
    In all other aspects I have had no serious problems with my videos and PPro CS4. A few little niggling problems here and there, but mostly due to my inexperience with the system (as my previous postings seem to adequately bear out).

  • Terrible download speed with Infinity 2 (less than...

    I was a relatively early adopter of BT infinity.  When I first signup I recieved a consistent 70mbps+ down 80mbps up.
    Over the last few months this has dropped to around 40mbps down and 12mbps up.
    I posted here regarding the issue, contacted BT, and even Emailed the tech support guys recommended here on this very forum.
    Unfortunately nothing improved, however since 40mbps down was okay for almost everything I needed to do I decided to leave it.
    Now however, the situation has become dire.  For the last month my download speed has been consistently less than 4mbps with my upload speed being 2-3x as fast!
    The BT speedtester refuses to complete due to the test taking too long. However I have managed to get a screenshot from speedtest.net.
    To make matters worse, webpages down't always seem to complete, with many requests eventually timing out.
    I am at a complete loss and would like some advice on where to go from here.  I have for all intents and purposes lost faith in the standard BT customer service having spent hours on the phone with them before when my speed dropped to 40mbps a few months ago.
    Any advice would be very much appreciated.

    This is disgusting, the service is disgusting, cannot get an engineer out. For over 10 months i could get 60mbps steady downloads now i can't
    even stream a youtube video!!

    after firefox updated from 27 to 28, when i download a file, play music, watch a video, or run a speed test, normal speed is about 160 kb/s (dsl connection 1.3 Mb/s) - just opening another blank tab (not any address) or try to open another page like google search page, download speed drops to less than 5 kb/s - downloading stops, and second page does not open, why is this happening, it does not happen with internet explorer and the version of IE i have is out of date,
    history/cookies all clear automatically when close, i have disabled all add on, run malware, adware searches - show no problem, norton antivirus is up to date, i have spent hours on phone with ATT isp and connection is showing no problem - if i run a speed test it shows good, if i try to run a speed test and open second tab - speed fails and speed test will not even finish, ATT suggested I try the same thing in IE and there is no problem - so it appears to be an issue with Firefox 28

    What is the CPU load when this slowdown happens?
    Are you using a specific driver in Windows to mange the internet connection that might not get enough processor time to run properly?
    It is also possible that other (security) isn't able to do its work and takes additional CPU time.
    Boot the computer in Windows Safe Mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) as a test to see if that helps.

    You can try to create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problem if starting Firefox in Safe Mode didn't help.

  • Mac store downloads stuck at less than a minute remaining... Forever!

    So yeah, new to Macs but I'm pretty sure I haven't done anything wrong.
    Macbook Pro late 2011 15 inch, Lion 10.7.2.
    Got my new mac back home yesterday, very excited, and, very excitedly, opened the app store to buy Logic. Paid, cool, no problem, then I try downloading. Starts off a bit slow (8 hours for 400 something MBs) then changes to days after a minute, then changes to "less than a minute remaining" and then stops downloading. Left it over night to see if it would pick up and to my joy it did, overnight it reached 260 MBs, then left it downloading while I went to work, and it didn't move another inch. Tried downloading a free app or two and the same things would happen. Would hit the dreaded "less than a minute remaining" of death and stop downloading.
    This common for macs?
    Shouldn't be a internet problem. My windows laptop still downloads speedy as ever.

    If you are referring to Logic Pro it's only a 413 MB file...  shouldn't take more than several minutes to download.
    Try this...
    Since your are new to Macs it may be a bit confusing to find files.
    Click and hold the Finder icon in the Dock (bottom of the screen on the left) then click New Finder Window.
    Now from the menu bar top of your screen click Go > Go to Folder
    Type this in ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.appstore/Cache.db
    Move the Cache.db file to the Trash.
    Restart your Mac. Try re downloading Logic.
    Note...   If you installed anti virus software or any programs such as LIttle Snitch or Speed Download, alll three can prevent files from downloading from the App Store.

    Had the same problem and spoke with Apple Support. They had me reset the System Management Controller:
    Shut down the computer. With the computer off, on the left hand side of the keyboard press shift+control+option along with the power button simultaneously and release. Wait 5-10 seconds and restart the computer.
    This solved my problem and I was immediately able to purchase, download, and play an HD movie from iTunes w/o any error message.
