Over 400.000 Spoolfiles in three days
Hello together,
we have several V6R1 partiotions. Since a few days I have on two partitions a lot of Spoolfiles with the following content:
Switch to user QSECOFR failed
This is the only text in the spoolfile.

How you can see, this spoolfiles came from a job named QPRTJOB.
This Job is generated from the system for DRDA connection and other things.
Dokumentation for this job:
http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/iseries/v5r3/index.jsp?topic=/rzalu/rzaluqprtjob.htm
or here:
http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=nas145751e5b298957558625713b0053b33e
When I use the command:
wrkjob JOB(474754/QSECOFR/QPRTJOB)
I can see the following in the joblog:
Job . . : QPRTJOB User . . : QSECOFR Number . . . : 474754
Job log not displayed or listed because job has ended.
But the job is still running and creating 2 or 3 spoolfile every second. 24 hours a day.
This is a lot.
BTW:
I have installed PTF 09279.
We use 620 Kernel with Level 314.
We have application Servers with Kernel Level 315.
How can I find the source of this running serverjob?
best regards,
Carsten Schulz
FYI - we are running IBM O/S V5R4 (most of these links refer only to V6R1) and we also experienced the same problems after installing Solution Manager 7.0 EHP1. The WATCHDOG job would start attached to user QSECOFR and generate thousands of spool files that contained only the "switch to user QSECOFR failed" error message. We corrected all of these problems by applying all of the patches that were referenced in SAP note 1252258. Just wanted to alert anyone running V5R4.

Encore 2.0 Using over 400,000 kb of memory
I am having some issues with Encore using up memory resources. I have a pentium 4 3.0ghz pc with 1GB of memory. Everytime i run Encore my computer slows way down, and encore itself is very slow...I can't even think about opening Photoshop CS2 at the same time!!! Because everything will just become un-responSive, and therefore i'll have to shut down.
Just for your reference, i am shutting down all other resources that aren't critical to the functioning of windows, but encore is still using over 400,000kb of memory.
Does anyone know what could be wrong?
Caleb, Oklahoma - USAWell, I use AE, Encore and Photoshop all at the same time on a regular basis. There is some sluggishness when switching apps, but nothing that would cause me to want to close some apps or reboot.
If you have 400K just for the Encore process, I would consider that unusual.
As a further reference, I have ZoneAlarm, ProcessGuard, TrojanHunter, a CPU monitoring utility and a memory usage monitor all running in the background at the same time that I have the Adobe apps open. I haven't had any of the Adobe apps become unresponsive.
I consider "unresponsive" to be more than a minute after I try to switch apps or perform operations in a single app. Typically I experience less than 10 seconds switching between apps and almost no delay when performing operations. The longest delays are when opening the programs. AE and Encore take the most time, but it is always less than a minute.
I think you should start with a thorough system tune-up that includes such things as disk defragmentation, registry cleaning, temporary file removal and error-checking of your hard disks.
I think the videoguys.com web site still has a guide for optimizing your system for video editing, but I haven't checked their site for a while.

I have been working on a wedding slideshow for days and have over 3,000 pictures in albums on iPhoto. It suddenly will not open without upgrading to Aperture and I can't find any of my photos!!!! I need these photos, to complete the video, not to mention I don't want to lose them. I have had trouble ever since upgrading to Maverick.
Try the following:
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down to open the First Aid window.
2 - Run Option #4, Rebuild Database. -
can someone please help me on this. i am a complete novice when it comes to the iphone. im a pay as u go nokia user normally. my husband took out an orange contract with the iphone 4 as the handset as a gift for me. thought(and still do believe) the phone was an absolute fantastic piece of technology, so clever yet simple and user friendly. however the phone, three days after the contract was taken out, has been disconnected. the service provider (orange) has informed us the mobile internet useage has reached over a £1000!!! is there a possibility that mayb i havent clicked off the internet when im not using it. i thought i tap the safari button and that would automatically connect and tap the home button to disconnect from the internet. is this right? please help as we dont want to b paying so much for three days worth of having such an incredible handset.
When pressing the home button to leave Safari, Safari is suspended. A web page or multiple pages that remain open when leaving the app should not be updated in the background.
If you are accessing an email account or multiple email accounts with the iPhone's Mail app and the accounts are checked for new messages automatically in the background or if you are accessing an account that supports Push access for received messages with Push access enabled, when there are new messages received at the incoming mail server the messages will be downloaded in the background.
When selecting and using any app that requires internet access, when you are not connected to an available wi-fi network, data access via the cellular network will be used. -
Three computers shut down over the course of three days non will reboot
I wonder if anyone can help me - over the course of the last three days my three home computers have all shut down and all will now not turn on. It started with my daughters eee as us netbook, which powered down and wouldn't switch on. The battery and power light are on but you press the start up button it flicks on and then two seconds later shuts down and won't boot up. A day later my iMac stopped working, similarly it shut down and wouldn't switch on, then the next day the same things happened to my dell netbook, same problem. All three computers will not power up. The only link between them is out home wireless system and electricity supply. Anyone have any ideas?????????
When I say it should be between 110 and 120v, that is if you are in north America.
If in Europe, it should be around 220 to 240V
Many Asian countries are on 100v.
Do all of the machines power up but fail to boot?
Is there a power light turning on on all of them?
If nothing at all is happening, it could be the power supplies that got fried by a power surge or even the hard disks. -
I am migrating about 450GB from my MacBook White to my MacBook Pro, wirelessly and it will take over three days, having spent 18 hours on the first 15%. Is it possible to interrupt this migation without damaging either source or target?
On reflection I should have used a wired connection or migrated at a later time but is it possible to interrupt the process now and rerun with a wired solution without damaging either laptop?I have two iTunes libraries - about 172GB that I keep on my MacBook Pro and 500GB+ that I keep on an external drive. If you wanted to do something similar - keeping that precious internal space to a minimum - you can just create two libraries and hold down the option key when opening iTunes: this allows you to select which library you want to open.
Just a thought...

I have an iphone 5s, When i checked for the avialable space it said i had over 3Gb of "Other" files in my iphone. I'v only had my iphone for three days, is it normal to have that much "other" data?
Around a gig is normal.
Also, if you tend to send/receive a lost of MMS messages, that will cause other to increase. Especially if you keep those messages. -
I have over 50,000 photos in the current iPhoto Library. I need to download 3,000 more from trip to Spain. Can/should I make a new iPhoto Library? How do I do that?
1) I had the same problem bedeviling me for over a month
(with the Apple Store people unable to figure out a solution!).
It turned out that the solution was exceedingly simple and easy:
http://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/18554/why-isnt-iphoto-11-showing-an-eve nt-present-in-the-library
I have no idea how it happened, but like Asbjornu, "I had managed to sort the events "manually" (View > Sort Events > Manually) which hid the newly created events in-between my rather large amount of existing events. Sorting by date (View > Sort Events > By Date + Descending) shows my new events first in the list as they should."
I left out a huge whoop when this (simple) command solved everything.
2) Yes, you can create another iPhoto library
http://support.apple.com/kb/PH2505?viewlocale=en_US
To create a new photo library:
Quit iPhoto.
Hold down the Option key as you open iPhoto.
In the window that appears, click Create New.
Type a name and choose a location to store the new photo library.
Click Save.
Afterwards, iPhoto will sometimes ask which library you want to open.
3) As far as the corrupted iPhoto is concerned,
trash or anything else, try rebuilding iPhoto (but
only after making a copy of your current iPhoto
library on an external disk, naturally).
Once the copy is made, close iPhoto, and
wait until you won't be using iPhoto or your computer for a long time
(like before you go to bed). Close all other apps, or as many as possible,
and reopen iPhoto while holding down the Option and Command keys
at the same time. Keep the buttons down until you get a page with a series
of half a dozen unmarked boxes or more, mark them ALL, launch rebuild,
and come back in the morning… -
I have set up over 5,000 photos in events and accidentally deleted my photo file
Can I go to a prior date for restoral? What kind of backup do you have? Time Machine?
-
My concern is I accidentally deleted something associated with the application; I was trying to free up some space on my Mac. I have over 10,000 photos in my iPhoto!! I should figure out how to back up my photos, assuming I can regain access to them.... Why will iPhoto not open....it just spins then gives me this lengthy problem report.
THANKS A MILLION.... but please remember my username when you reply, I am so new to Macs that you may need to dumb it down for me...

From Finder, hold down the option key on your keyboard and click on the Go menu at the top of the screen
Select Library from the drop down menu
Then navigate to Application Support > iLifeAssetManagement > assets
Right click on the 'sub' folder and choose Compress
Drag the resulting zip file to your Desktop (as a backup)
Go to your System Preferences and choose iCloud
Turn OFF the iCloud Photos option
Go back to Library > Application Support and DELETE the iLifeAssetManagement folder
Now, in System Preferences, turn the iCloud Photos option ON
iPhoto should now be able to launch. Give it enough time to re-download your Photo Stream content. if you are missing any of your My Photo Stream photos (more than 30 days old), unzip the sub folder on your desktop and drag that into iPhoto. -
So I recenly got a new rMBP and have begun using the Mail app. I've had a bunch of problems with Gmail and the app but my my biggest gripe is that it seems to have downloaded over 2,000 messages from the server (of which I have no idea where its getting them because I've deleted pretty much everything in trying to solve this to the extent of completely wiping out my email folders). I wouldn't have such a problem with it except that it seems like its actually downloaded the 2,000+ messages onto my computer, no dobt taking up space (and its mildly annoying to me to always see 2,514 to the right of the "Gmail" folder in the left window)
I have tried emptying my mail completely including emptying the trash+deleting mail account from all apple devices and then restarting them before adding the mail account back.
Looking in random folders to make sure I haven't lost my marbles and theres a stash of emails lurking somewhere...
Again, deleting the accounts, powercycling the apple devices and then setting up mail again (just incase the first three times didn't work) and I'll mention that EVERY time I set up the account it imediately starts downloading the 2,000+ emails all over again (little windw shows up in bottom left counting down how many it has and how many there are left to go).
Any advise would be appreciated- I know its not huge but its driving me crazy!!
Just FYI I'm using the mail app simultaneously on a rMBP, iPad 4, and iPhone 5...Go to Gmail (on the web) look in the folder named All Mail, they will be there, delete what you want.

The subject iine pretty much describes what happened.
I am wondering if it is anything to do with what looks like an odd file in the directory ~ Library -> Application Support -> Address Book
As well as the "real" database file there is this zero bytes one:
AddressBook-v22.abcddb.0F392545-78F2-4AE6-8D30-457C138332B2.unknown
From the date, it might be something to do with installing and linking Cobook to Address Book maybe?
These are the files and folders in that directory (sub-directory files not shown):
I have enabled the debug menu in Address Book but have not been able to find any info about how to use it. I lie! I did read that I might possibly have been able to "retrieve" the contacts using the debug menu "Force Refresh" - however that was after I had started to resync with Gmail contacts.
I realised that something odd was going on during resync when I saw that there were over 4,000 contacts being processed rather than the 2,000 or so that I was expecting. Initially, none of the contacts groups from Gmail were showing in Address Book after this partial sync (I stopped it when I saw what was happening). However, after quitting and restarting Address Book, the groups appeared again.
I have not lost my contact data - as well as Gmail contacts I also have an Address Book backup from about two weeks ago and also the backup created by Cobook about two weeks ago. (Installed Cobook as it looked like a very efficient way of getting to view individual contacts quickly - Quicksilver just isn't finding them at all). I used third party app "Contacts Sync for Google Gmail" to link Address Book with Gmail as it gives you options about what to do for each duplicate card that it identifies.
I then spent a lot of time sorting through the contacts on Address Book, finding duplicates, updating data, etc. with the intention of managing contacts in Address Book from then on, rather than in Gmail. Not all of these changes are reflected in the Cobook backup or Gmail.
My worry is, with Lion being such a god-awful Pig's Ear in so many more ways than this, that this Address Book mess might happen again.
I seem to have spent most of my time over the last month wrestling with the numerous problems that keep cropping up with Lion and getting little to show for it.
WARNING! FOOT-STAMPING WHINGE ABOUT LION - LOOK AWAY AND DOWN TO THE HOWLING FACES - IT WON'T BE ANYTHING THAT YOU HAVEN'T HEARD BEFORE:
I gave up on OSX when I tried Panther - that was dreadful - but was lured back by Tiger, have used Leopard very comfortably for about 5 years, had a very happy couple of months with Snow Leopard and now - this mess that is Lion! I have repaired OSX install permissions and "home user" permissions time and again, TinkerTooled it until I am blue in the face and it seems that every few days I manage to fix something and then almost immediately something else screws up. I can't upgrade to Mountain Lion on this machine and am seriously considering installing or running Linux as these problems with Lion are just never-ending - and then there are all the other stupid changes that have subsequently been sensibly reverted, mitigated or worked around in ML).
I have never bothered much with Address Book or Mail in the past as I have found them too limited. I have used either the Gmail web interface or Thunderbird. However, Gmail has started crashing my favourite browsers (Seamonkey and Firefox), Thunderbird has got just a bit too complicated and I cannot get Quicksilver to play ball with Gmail. The Lion version of Address Book is better than Gmail Contacts and Mail Smart Folders can emulate Gmail filters and labels - a huge improvement. So, just when these apps look good enough to be worth bothering with, they come part and parcel with what I have seen mocked, and rightly, as "Apple Vista"!
Sorry for that but I am about at the end of my tether with it all ;-/
I would be very grateful if anyone can offer any advice about:
1) That strange looking zero bytes file in the Address Book folder.
2) Whether the Address Book debug menu options might be of any help in this situation?
There seem to be lots of people having problems with Address Book in both Lion and Mountain Lion, if not exactly this issue, so maybe the answers will help others too.
Fingers crossed!
Ms Mousette
ps. In the product list to tick for this question they are grouped so I cannot specify that this is actually nothing to do with the iPhone. I have got a load of contacts on my iPhone too but I am not going to sync them until I have got this issue sorted out.Could this font be the cause of the problem?
Possibly, since that font is not the one that Address Book uses and there is no method to specify or change the font used by Address Book. You could have recovered your Address Book contacts without syncing, so that could also be part of the problem. You should always make a keep a backup of your Address Book on your computer and in another safe location whenever you make any change to it.
May I ask why you haven't updated to 10.4.11 yet, as it provides various bug fixes and security enhancements?

In iTunes, is there any way to do a mass copy and paste of song titles from the "name" column to the "sort name" column? I know it can be done with individual titles but I have over 6,000 titles in my library.
Thank you. I have heard of Logic Pro 7, but I have never personally used it. I'm still growing in the world of Composition, and I know that it is something I will be studying in one of my Computer Music classes coming up for my degree. I think it is something I will look into getting once I can justify the price of it. I guess for the time being, I will continue to play and grow in my ability to use and take advantage of GB, and then see what I can do about or with Logic Pro when I'm ready. The thought of spending $1000 for a program is hard to bite, because I've already spent a lot to produce my music, not only electronic music, but also chamber music and so on. I had no idea it would be so expensive to dive deep into the world of composition! lol.
Finale 2007: $500
Sibelius 4: $500
Jam Packs: $400
Midi Keyboard Interface: $100
PowerBook: $1700
Printer for printing scores and analysis: $150
Logic Pro 7: Oy!
As you can see it adds up very quickly...that doesn't even include my personal instruments and study materials.
Thank you for your input, as I haven't really worked much with LP, and therefore didn't know which features are available. I will talk with some of my Composition buddies, and professors and see what they have to say as well, and who knows, I may be able to get the express version through one of them. -
Hello everyone. I just wanted to post some of my likes and dislikes of the Macbook Pro 15" 2.8 GHZ model for those searching this forum for reviews.
The computer I have is completely up-to-date, with the latest 10.6.1 OS, with Logic Express to boot. So far I have found the computer very responsive for my uses and fast. When I first received the computer, I thought it had Snow Leopard already installed. It wasn't until last night (I purchased the computer on Saturday) that I realized that I still had 10.5.7 Leopard installed. After installing Snow Leopard I am pleased to say I noticed a considerable improvement with Logic Express. Before, the computer randomly had warning pop-ups while using the software. I was a bit annoyed and did contact Apple about potential bugs with Logic. Of course, after installing Snow Leopard everything is running great.
As for the 5400 RPM drive, for my uses, it is very fast and very responsive. I don't think I will be upgrading in the future because any audio recording I do is on an external 7200 RPM hard drive. If the prices for SSD come down considerably, I may choose to upgrade my hard drive then, but for the time being I am very, very happy.
I will say that I am not as impressed with i-photo as I thought I would be. I really enjoy the easy slideshow modes that it features, but I don't find the "face-recognition" that responsive. Maybe I am doing something wrong though. As I said earlier, I am new to Mac, and have only had the computer for three days now.
I got the Anti-glare screen model as well, and let me tell you, that is the best part of the viewing experience. I don't understand how some of you out there love the glare screens. Too much reflection for my tastes and less motion-sickness. The anti-glare screen is very professional looking in my opinion as well, and does not reflect the light from the keyboard at all. Also, if you are looking to extend your battery life to the largest potential possible, the anti-glare screen is still usable with the screen dimmed. I noticed with the glare screens, the glare became very apparent when dimmed, which left me with no choice but to keep it at near-full brightness.
Fit and finish of the machine is amazing. Much better than my previous HP Pavilion DV6000!
I also bought a clear Speck hard-shell cover for the Macbook Pro too. I want to baby this computer and keep it in good shape. If I had to rate the Speck shell, I'd give it a 9-out-of-10. It works great, but allows some dust to come through, hence the 9 rating.
This laptop is also GREAT to use outdoors, in sunny conditions! I am guessing that is due to the anti-glare screen, and the highly bright, LED LCD display. I love it, and while that is cool, why use your laptop outdoors?
Anyways, so far, I am very happy with my Mac purchase. I felt obligated to write this because when I used to search these forums for advise, most of what I came across were horror stories and complaints, which really skewed and worried me. I want potential buyers to see some positives too.
PS: I have been trying to push my computer to get the dreaded beach-balling phenomenon that some users describe. I have had the beach-ball pop up, spinning in it's hyper color glory, but it lasts for the most a few seconds, and pops up when I load up a bunch of apps at once (like 6).
Have fun and be safe!
-BudThanks !
Great comments Bud! Glad you got a kick out of my handle. ;o) I thought is was a fitting title considering how many Macintoshes I have around here! ;o)
I am sure that you will probably encounter some "issues" with using you new MBP, but I am pretty sure it will be related to "unlearning" the Windows way of doing things! lol!
I always tell people that the best part about a Mac is OSX! 10.6 is proving to be an EXCELLENT step forward in this great OS' long history! Being kind of a techy, I know how much "under the hood" improvements this new version has going on. Many of these improvements will benefit you as a musician as you start using your machine for music related purposes. Just wait until we start seeing more support for 64 bit! :o)
As for the screen debate... Yeah, I can't understand the appeal of the "GLOSSY" screen either. I guess when you don't consider these things as a TOOL, you are more concerned with the BLING factor than you are with accuracy and useability of the device itself.
I have read a lot of very flippant remarks on here and elsewhere aimed at those complaining about the previous lack of the Matte screen option. Some saying that the percentage of users who would want that version was in the single digits. Guess they didn't see all those POLLS on photography web sites, where the percentage of those preferring a MATTE screen was in the 90+ percent range. ;o)
I would remind those "consumers", that it was "Media Professionals" that kept Apple in business during the "dark" days when everyone was predicting the demise of the Mac and Apple as a company. It was nice to see Apple finally give a nod to these "Professionals" by finally offering the Matte screen option we NEED again on their "PRO" line of laptops.
Just checked my order and see that it is PREPARED FOR SHIPMENT! :o)
My only worry is the possibility of a STUCK PIXEL. I have never had a problem with this before, but it is always something I worry about every time I buy a new machine with an LCD screen. I am hoping that the MATTE screens get a better QC going over than the Glossy models do.
Thanks again for posting your thoughts! It is always rewarding to read the impressions of a recent convert!
Cheers. :o) -
My ipod has over 7,000 pictures and there are 5,00 i could easily delete but it wont let me do anything! it just has a loading symbol that converts into an apple logo and then back again. Ive tried pressing down the home and sleep/wake button down at the same time for 10 seconds. The apple logo does appear, but it goes back to the loading symbol or a white screen. Its been like this for 24 hours and is unresponsive. Please help.
- Connect the iPod to the computer and see if iTunes sees it. If it sees it try to get the photos off the iPod.
- Next let the battery fully drain. It will likely take days. After charging for at least an hour try again
- Last, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.
