Over active harddrive

My MacPro is constantly busy and noisy even though I am not doing anything with it.
It has this constant whirring sound part of the time like it is hunting for something but the rest of the time it has this rhythmic sound of 3 beats then a silent space then 3 beats again and it just keeps on repeating itself.
Even though it is not overly loud it is annoying as it never stops .
I don't have anything in the CD slot.
Does anyone know what causes this, it hasn't always been like this I've only begun to notice it in the last few weeks.
I read where the computer performs some kind of self testing but usually during the wee hours of the morning. I keep my computer on all of the time so I wouldn't think it is doing stuff like that.

Backup first off. Then test it, repair it, run Disk Warrior against it. Clean it up.
I like to break in new drives to loosen it up, test the sectors. Break it before I use it rather than later. Takes a few days to warm it up and settle down.
Most drives today are quiet. Mac Pro has metal mesh. Seagate OEM Apple drive? can be noisier than most. WD and Samsung are preferred for quiet.
Depends on what you do, but most drives spin down, park the head, and if they do a self test it is every 10 minutes or something.
Possible you have some program that is constantly checking and probing the drive for SMART status or such? less is more when it comes to background stuff.

JScript Error when mouse over active session chart.

Whenever I mouse over the chart to change the vertical box indicating the time slice you're dealing with I get an error.
It says:

Exchange calendar over Active Sync not working - Email does work

Hi all,
I am having some strange issue with my iPhone calendar sync with Exchange (not over iTunes but over the Air with the new business features).
I happen to connect to the exchange server and exchange Contacts and Email without any problems but when it comes to the calendar it stops working. I have no Idea why though?!
IF I create a subfolder on that Calendar and fill it with info it works, appointments are shown but my normal real calendar is not shown at all.
Weired isn't it?
I would be very gratefull for any help.

Same problem here...but mine seems to be caused by changing the Exchange settings for testing and then changing them back to what they were. Email and contacts work perfectly, but calendar is dead. What makes it even weirder is that when I click in the calendar I can see the items start pouring into the list view, then they all disappear and it remains empty.
Anyone have any ideas? I tried a restore but I didn't have a backup before I made those changes so it is obviously still happening...

Confused over Activation Date and Engineer Visit D...

Placed an order for the full lot, phone, internet, TV. This is for a new development, with "BT lines pre-installed" (but not activated).
I will recieve the equipment tommorow and the (estimated) activated is also tommorow, however I have just come to realised the scheduled engineer visit is not tommorow but the day after (Monday), this was moved/changed without notifying me.
I gave BT a call, the kind gentleman on the phone suggested to me because it is a new development, chances of work needing to be carried out inside or anywhere within my property is extremely slim, maybe just to test. I agree here as it seems my neighbours all have working phone lines very quick with minimal hassle.
For fun, I decided to give my own phone number a ring. It connects fine, but because there's no dial tone my phone didn't ring on the line; I assume the activation hasn't been carried out yet.
So my query here is the activation carried out elsewhere or by another team, while the engineer just comes and checks if everything is ok? Best case scenario is that I recieve my equipment tommorow, mainly the phone/router and my phone and internet works when I whack it in, I could care less for the TV right now.
Just to reiterate this is a new development/block of flats and the developers have done everything to make it as easy as possible, as initially they said "just give BT a call and they will activate it for you". I haven't questioned my neighbours yet on how they got their's so fast yet as due to my awkward working hours I can't easily get hold of them without disturbance.

The activation is usually done automatically (may take upto midnight on the day of activation) and then the engineer who will run tests on the line to check that it is stable will make sure it is in running order.

Over active voice control

I've apparently turned on some voice feature where Siri speaks everything, such as screen locked, spells out names in my address book as I scroll over them or when calls come in, speaks the time, etc....just weird stuff that's never happened before. Help! Has anyone else experience this?

Adobe helpless in providing support since 3rd Feb 2014 over activation of genuine product :

How to wake senior adobe people to realise we pay for full software not for trial versions. And you have no rights to damage our reputation for your problems?
My complain number is 185174908 I asked for genuine product to activate since 3rd of Feb. My sooftwares are showing 30 day trial even after full payment from credit card of they already took it.
Complained on 3rd Feb, relooked for review on 7th to know status (Nothing done) Recalled on 10th they generated a complain number and said they will excelerate this case to higher team. I waited & waited & waited nothing happend.
On 17th they wanted to know problem and called me put me to same back status of forwarding it to Higher team and get back when resolved.
"Simple problem that trial version is active in my account is actually stopping me from both using cloud space of 20gb. reduced to only 2 gb. And software are showing 30 days trial. So they had to only close that 30 days trial and I hoe everything would have been done."
No one in adobe seemed to correct the basic issue. And showing me how technical they are. This is damaging my reputation in front of my student when they sit in the pc and see trial version software and make fun of it. I think I am too civilized to treat Adobe people good.
I thing there is no one with moral ground in Adobe who act responsibly to stand for right approach. Shameless approach of adobe to billing people for trial softwares and to damage there reputation in front of there client. No ethics at all.
Can anyone tell me if there is really someone senior there who could show me some real standard of what Adobe poses or I have to turn myself out of Adobe.

Over active CPU/Fans (MBPr 15")

First of all, I know that most of you are thinking this is the same fan issue regarding 15" MBPr w/ SanDisk SSDs that was addressed in an update not too long ago. You are wrong.
I purchased my 15" MBPr in late July shortly after release. Everything was fine until I began experiencing image retention issues in September/October. I took it in to the Apple store and they sent it in to have the screen replaced. I guess I was one of the unlucky few to get an early LG screen. Got it back and everything was back to normal. However, not long after I got it back I began to notice my fans were coming on during almost any use of my laptop. With all applications closed except for safari, something as small as an advertisement on a simple website drove the fans up to max until I left the site or closed safari. Any form of constant scrolling drives the fans to max as well. Essentially, any extended use of the CPU, no matter how small the process, drives the fans up to max. I eventually installed iStat menus and found that very small tasks would bring the CPU temp up to around 104 degrees even if it was 80 to 90% idle. The fans would soon follow and remain on until the temps dropped back down. I eventually took the laptop in to the Apple store again where they said it was most likely the fans that were causing an issue and that they would overnight some replacement fans and have it fixed the next day. I insisted this was not the problem but they refused to believe me so I crossed my fingers and left it with them. Get a call the next day telling me its ready. Show up to the store, have me sign some paper, give me my laptop and say its fixed. After asking what was done to fix it and several store employees having no idea, I eventually ended up talking to the store manger. She kindly told me that the issue was not the fans (surprise) and that it was a known issue with fans coming on randomly and that Apple would most likely release a software update to fix it. I questioned this because my issue hasn't been fans coming on randomly. However, she emphasized everything checked out on diagnostics and insisted I wait for the update because there was nothing else that could be done. The update came and went and nothing changed. I lived with it for a little while longer but finally decided to format and reinstall as a last hope. As soon as the install began the fans came on full speed (surprise) and remained on at full speed the entire time. After the install they even remained on for another 10 minutes or so at full speed. I let it sit there, not touching anything until they finally came down. The first thing I did was open Safari and attempted to login to Facebook so that I could scroll endlessly through pictures and see if the fans came on (they always did before the reformat). As soon as safari begins loading Facebook the fans came on to max speed. I got halfway through entering my password before Safari froze. Let it sit there for a few minutes while my laptop continued to sound as if it was about to blastoff. I eventually force quit safari and started over. This time I made it through and as expected the fans came on full speed while scrolling through pics until I stopped and let it sit there for a minute. I've done this repeatedly side by side with my friends MBPr and his fans never come on. So now that I know the reformat hasn't fixed anything I'm stuck. I afraid if I go to the apple store they're just going to say its working as expected. But I can't deal with this anymore, it's incredibly distracting and I did not spend this much money for my laptop to sound like an AC unit any time I try to use it. I've even had people ask me why my laptop is so loud sitting in class.
If anyone has any suggestions I would greatly appreciate it!

To be clear, the temp is 104 degrees C.

Fan continuous problem (different to over-activity)

I have a fan making a continuous powering up and then down in level noise from when the computer is switched on to when it is switched off. removing the plastic air flow piece tempoerarily stops it, but otherwise it is continuous.
Just before this happened I installed a pci ethernet card and I think a screw fell into the innards away from access. So that's the probable cause but I can't access the bit at the bottom and no end of tilting will release it (or shift it at all).
The mac works fine, but the noise is incredibly annoying being somewhat like an alarm siren in form if not volume. I'd love an app to change settings for and diagnose fan problems.

DSO activation in Production

Hi Experts:
I added two new fields in DSO in dev and my transports are moving in production. As a cut-over activity I have to delete data in DSO and the the PC will run to load data in DSO. My question is:
In production do I need to activate the DSO request manually after the DTP monitor is green as we do it in Dev and in Quality?

Hi,
As you know that standard DSO is having 3 tables 1, New table 2, Active table and 3. Changle log table.
After executing DTP data will be moved to new table. At the time of activation data will be moved to other 2 tables.
In your case
1, If you are loading the data manually then you need to activate the DSO request manually to move the data from New table to Active table/Change log table.
or
2, If you are using this loading step in process chain then Activate DSO will be autmatially selected with the DTP step for DSO. So no need to include do it manually. If the activation step fails then you can activate the DSO request manually or you can directly repeat the load step after fixing the error.

Firefox 17.0.1 cache activity on multiple hard disks?

I upgraded OS of my desktop PC from Win 7 to Win 8 (install from scratch).
I also loaded latest version of Firefox 17.0.1
My C system disk is a SSD (therefore no moving parts). I also have a second mechanical hard disk only for data (no software installed on it).
I noticed that; when I scroll up & down in any web page (sometimes just moving mouse over active areas) I hear exactly syncronized activity sound from my mechanical hard disk. So Firefox is inducing some read/write activity on that drive (which normaly it shouldn't have anything to do with it).
I didn't have this with my previous Win 7 - Firefox 16 combination (on exact same PC setup).
I'm only using few extensions (that I've been using on my previous setup as well).
It only happens with Firefox. Scrolling in no other software causes such activity on my secondary mechanical disk.
So I assume that; Firefox is throwing it's cache operation on every single drive it finds available around.
I couldn't find any setting (under Options) to specify location of cache file.
May be it's not the cache file; but it's absolutely caused by Firefox.
I have a virtually silent PC - currently spoiled by Firefox.
Any idea how can I have Firefox run using only the resources of my C (SSD) drive?

If you want a version of Firefox that stores everything in its installation folder, get Firefox Portable. It's designed to be run off a USB Flash drive, but it can also be installed to a local disk. Just make sure to put it somewhere other than the Program Files folder, because over there, Windows UAC would prevent it from writing and modifying files.

As for finding out what Firefox is doing, you can use Process Monitor. Create a filter for Process name: ''firefox.exe'', then open the '''Tools''' menu and choose '''File Summary''' to examine disk activity.

Satellite P205 - mouse activation of FN display

I am using a Satellite P205 with Vista OS. The Toshiba FN functions are displayed by either pressing the FN key or moving the mouse over the top of the display screen. It is the mouse over activation that bothers me.
Often enough, in general use, my mouse will enter the area that triggers the display and if I use the left mouse button the associated function is activated. If I am working quickly this will happen unintentionally. I am finding this increasingly annoying and would like to disable the mouse over activation. If I want to use the FN option, I want to do so with the FN key.
Does anyone know how to disable the mouse over display?

To be honest I am wondering you ask this. I know, it sounds now stupid but I will tell you why.
If you don't like some function it is logic to check all available options for something.
So if you open Settings for Flash Cards you will find one option there *Allow the mouse to bring up the cards.*
Just remove the check mark for this option and the Flash Cards will be shown when you use FN key only.

Activating a VOFM Routine

Hi Folks,
I have made a VOFM routine in data tranfer->Sales activities.I have activated the program and also the entry in "Maintain:Data transport sales activities" But still i am getting an error "No frame work was found for the Include RV44A601".I have no idea which configuration is missing now please help.I have also tried using SAP program RV80HGEN first and then Standard SAP program SDINVOFM used to identify and repair missing table entries in the VOFM control tables TFRM and TFRMT but in vain..:(

There is no need to activate the standard programs like SAPLV43A or RV**NNN program separately when you are creating a custom routine.Once you register the Custom Routine in SAP Service Market Place you will get the SCCR key so that you can proceed with the coding.Once the coding you can activate the routine using RV80HGEN.This will activate the routine.To cross check whether the routine has got activated or not you can check if there is an entry with your custom routine program name in the corresponding RV**NNN program.This is only for confirmation and there is no need to separately activate other standard programs or transport these program along with your custom routine.
Running RV80HGEN will take care of activating the routine.The same activity needs to be done again once the TR is imported in the target client.
If you want to run RV80HGEN automatically ( instead of performing it as a cut over activity once the TR is imported to target client ) you can tag RV80HGEN as XPRA along with your custom routine in the TR and get this imported to target client.XPRA will set RV80HGEN for execution once the TR is imported to the target client.
You can refer to SAP Notes 86161 and 327220 for more info.

DAG Sporadic Entire Server DB Fail Over

Hi,
I have been having this issues for a while now, I have two physical exchange servers in a DAG, both on Exchange 2013 CU1. Randomly, every few days and various times, Server1 will fail all of it's databases over to Server2. I'll redistribute them, and again,
say Server2 will fail all databases to Server1. In short, both servers at times have failed their databases over.
I started with this: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd351258(v=exchg.150).aspx which led me to setup monitoring of the Microsoft-Exchange-ManagedAvailability logs. I can tell you that replication tests work fine, and the health of all the
databases are fine.
My monitoring turned up the following errors, in this example "EX0001" was the server that failed all of it's databases over to "EX0002". It seems pretty clear to me, that Exchange Managed Availability, is finding an issue with
EWS, attempting to restart the MSExchangeServicesApp pool and cannot due to "Throttling" so ti fails the DB's over, that's my best guess...the problem is I dont know how to fix this...I've run through troubleshooting EWS Healthset, nothing

Based on the error message, throttling rejected the operation. I recommend you use the Get-ThrottlingPolicy | fl cmdlet to view EWS settings in throttling policy.
You can modify the default throttling policy and set the basic settings for EWS. Then restart the Microsoft Exchange Throttling service and recycle the MSExchangeServicesAppPool to check the result.
