Over data usage = mail locked ?!

I went over my data usage on Sunday, got the alerts but was ok to spend the extra money once so didn't increase my monthly allowance.
Since then, the email on my iPhone does not update anymore. I can access it through Safari but not the mail application.
I re-entered the pwd under Settings, no luck.
I have not changed any setting since the weekend, so ut does look related to the data usage but why? Even at home with wifi, it does not update.
Any ideas, welcome!

The new share everything plan is doing something.
I've been receiving overage alerts in my data since my sign-up for the new share everything plan, and Verizonwireless could not explain how 1.2gb in one week was used when my normal usage is only about .25gb/month for the past 2 years.
I need to know what is going on and the call center was no help.
Well you do realize with Share Everything ALL the line on the account share the data. Before you each had your own data allotments. Also going from .25 GB to 1.2 GB is using an extra 32 MB a day which is really nothing. Especially if you leave apps on auto update or have background data on 24/7.

  • Over Data Usage Already!!!

    I am absolutely furious at this moment.  I just upgraded my phone last week and I knew I would be losing my unlimited data and had to go to at least 2 GB until my Dad upgraded his phone. However, I looked at my bill online today and I was livid!  It says I'm already over my 2GB of data!  There is absolutley no way I could be over it!  I wasn't even close to it on last months bill!
    The only way this could have happened is if they combined my usage from my old phone to this new phone (WHICH YOU DID NOT TELL ME ABOUT!) This is ridiculous! I refuse to pay additional charges for something you did NOT explain to me!  You would think that once I upgraded I would start with fresh 2GB of data, but no!
    I am NOT happy what so ever!  If this keeps up I will be moving my family over to another carrier!!  The customer service is horrible as well!  I want to talk to a person 24/7 not a robot!

    I have been with the Verizon for 9 years and this is just the icing on the cake!  I don't really have to worry about coverage so much on my end because I leave close to Philadelphia, but I'm concerned with my Dad because he's a truck driver.  I just did pricing with Sprint and it will cost me just as much with them as it does with Verizon AND I'll have unlimited data.
    Plus my mom and I have discounts through our companies, they're very similar in regards to savings so we've been using hers. I pay the bill for my family (one less bill for my parents) and I'm not happy anymore with Verizon.  I will be calling them tomorrow because this is ridiculous, I need to be able to read my emails I'm actually out of town right now for work and now I can't check my email for fear of already being over my data usage and them socking me who knows how much!

  • Why is my line all of a sudden going over data usage?

    @Please excuse my ignorance,  but  all of a sudden, my line is the one going over the data usage limit and I don't understand why, aside from using Facebook, which I've been using all along.   I would have thought the overage would be due to my son.
    I don't think I'm doing anything different.
    I also find the plans to be confusing.  I thought with the new Edge plan,  I would be saving money, but I'm not.
    I'm paying way too much for a phone plan, even with my discount.
    What the heck am I doing wrong?   Do I need to sign out of facebook  each time or is there a way to clear it?????
    I don't know.....I'm working too hard to deal with this crap.

    Were you ever able to solve this problem? If so,
    how? If not, did you see the same slowness copying
    the files in Windows Explorer from the NAS to the
    iPod?
    No I wasn't. To be honest I have essentially given up as even if I can fix it, disk space is cheaper than life is long!
    Using the NAS in general is no problem. In fact, once iTunes got beyond the initial working out of what needed to be removed from and copied to the iPod, having all my MP3s on the NAS and copying direct to the iPod was no issue.
    Following some sage (and frankly scary!) advice at ilounge (http://forums.ilounge.com/showthread.php?t=163611), I've decided to keep two copies of my MP3s. The fact that my fiendish NAS plan has failed is hurting more than the not-all-that-traumatic reality of duplicating 140GB of files if truth be told!

  • IPhone 5 suddenly using an excessive amount of data and my phone usage has not changed so why am i going over data 3 times this billing cycle?

    My iphone 5 has been hogging data like crazy the past two months. I have not used my phone anymore than I normally do, in fact I would say I use it less often than normal. I have gone over the family share data limit of 15GB three times this billing cycle. The first time i had 121500 MB of data used. I thought it was rhapsody that was causing all of the data usage but my sister uses rhapsody on her iphone 5c and she hasnt gone over at all! So its not that. I decided I would turn OFF all cellular usage on apps like facebook, instagram, rhapsody, twitter, even MAIL! I am basically not able to use my phone outside of my house now which is NOT okay! I took screen shots of the cellular usage and at one point after I had completely shut off celluar data on all apps, i checked my cellular usage and DNS services, Mapping services, Data and syncing all had racked up data! I hadnt used any of those services! I also turned off all location settings and maps and siri! phone is still using data like crazy!
    I saw in recent posts about this issue that Apple replaced peoples iphones because it was a bug in the phones software that was causing the data to go haywire! I have an upgrade but I dont want to use it if I dont have to! I also dont want to get another iphone 5 if this problem is happening with iphone 5's. I have not seen very many complaints about iphone 5c  so that might be the route I go.
    I also restored my iphone last night cause I saw a discussion which said to try that. So far it is still using data and im on wifi!
    Any suggestions as to what to do now?

    Contact your carrier for their advice.

  • Any way to determine which app is causing a spike in my data usage, I've gone over my monthly limit?

    In 2 separate 2 hour periods, my phone went through 500MB of data each period - pushing me close to my monthly limit on Verizon. I turned off Cellular Data completely, and have been trying to figure out what app is doing it.  It seems to be something that happens quite suddenly, as I've noticed that the phone gets really hot.  And no, I'm not streaming video, I don't have iTunes match, or any of those obvious issues.
    So, I've downloaded Dataman, My Data Manager, and Onavo, but unfortunately, none of them allow you to see which apps are doing the data hogging. My Data Manager does allow me to see data usage on WiFi (the other 2 don't, assuming that all you care about is cellular data)....and it at least confirmed for me what I thought.....After a day of minimal data use, I suddenly had a spike of almost 20GB of data use in 1 hour.  Yes, you heard it 20GB!!!!  It's as if my entire iTunes music library was being downloaded (and no I don't have iTunes wifi sync enabled, and besides, I had just previously synced via USB, so there was nothing new to sync).
    My guess is this is related to this:
    http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology/2012/oct/17/iphone-5-iphone
    Apple needs to figure this out -- Verizone needs to compensate all of us --
    But in the meantime, does anyone have any ideas on how to figure out what apps/services are using the data?

        GV2,
    I'm glad Mrhelper was able to shed some light on this for you! In iPhones, the amount of data you're seeing under each app is for the "Current Period." Just above that list you'll see info about the Current Period and Current Period Roaming. This is just an overall snapshot of total data usage for that period of time. The Current Period does not reset on its own, so it will be counting everything from the last time you reset it through now. You can reset it by scrolling to the bottom and tapping on "Reset Statistics."
    So, for example, if you reset your statistics 3 days ago and then there's 1GB used under App Store you'll know that over the last 3 days 1 GB of data has been used for the App Store.

  • After enabling cellular data, i am receiving mails even if disable "use cellular data for mail", due to this data usage usage use is more, if we have fix please let me know

    Phone Model and OS
    Model - iphone 5
    IOS 8.0.2
    Problem Description
    After enabling cellular data, i am receiving mails even if we disable "use cellular data for mail", due to this data usage usage use is more, if we have fix please let me know.
    Steps:
    1. Enable Cellular Data
    2. Disable mail on "use cellular data for mail
    3. check whether mail is received or not
    tried multiple times and i am getting more billing amount because of data usage

    Mail isn't the only app using data. Turning it off there has no effect whatsoever on whether the rest of iOS or other apps you have installed. In fact most apps use data these days, at a minimum for Notifications and often for gameplay and other features.

  • What's up with data usage on the iPad over LTE?

    I am using the new iPad. This is not my first as I have had an ipad since version 1 (at first with a VZ Mifi, though now I have the one with LTE). When I first set up this iPad i did it on a prepaid account and so I have a baseline of experience (both with the mifi and with built in cellular) that is nothing like what I have experienced recently.
    When I first activated, I averaged 1GB of data use. I activated on prepaid as I thought I might actually turn it off once in a while and I didnt want to have to go through VZ to do that - I don't have an hour+ to waste in store every time i want to do something with my devices. I later decided (silly me) I was not ever going to turn off the data, so why not put it on my regular plan.  The real rub here is my data usage still didnt change. I leave both radios (wifi and cell) on all the time. So when I am home, I am wifi, when i am out, I use cell.
    The odd thing here is, since LTE has come to town, my usage has tripled. Now, some of this is because I have once or twice watched a movie or streamed some audio. But as this has happened only once or twice in a month, it does not explain lump data charges of 500-1,000mb charges hitting my device 5-6 times in a month. Consider this timeline:
    On Saturday afternoon, I decided to use the NFL app to listen to an audio broadcast of the NE patriots game. I did so walking around town. I was easily streaming for 2 hours or more. According to VZW, the charge in data use for this (nearest to time) was at most 47mb.
    Roll forward 2 days during which the two largest charges are 23mb and 13mb - I can even relate these charges to a couple apps I upgraded in that time frame and some podcasts that auto downloaded.
    I see that at 3am on 9-18-12 I had data usage of 900mb. huh?
    My wifi is always connected when I am at home
    Even if, as some suggest on here, the wifi turns off when the device sleeps
    There were no updates to be found
    Movies don't download over Cell as they are over 50mb (though they will stream I think)
    IOS does not allow podcasts or software updates over 50mb anyway so if it was either of those, it would have had to be like 30 of them!
    I have a couple of theories:
    Verizon charges for data as far as timing are way off. They really don't know WHEN data is being used. The system posts involve lags in update of data from towers. (server to server transmission, whatever)
    There is a problem with LTE usage stats on Verizon. I am tempted to turn off LTE for a while to see if the usage goes down.
    I don't want to turn off my cellular all the time as that defeats the usability of the thing. I just want it back the way it was and for these phantom charges to stop. There is nooooo way my ipad used 900mb overnight by itself. There just isn't that much data to be had to bring into the thing when I am not using it.
    Please reply to this with answers only if you KNOW something. I know many will want to be helpful, but if you want to be really really helpful, you will differentiate speculation from fact.
    Has anyone else noticed that LTE data usage is higher? (and not just because having faster speeds makes you want to do more stuff)

    Sorry Tominique, great answer to the question I didnt ask. I know how to add data to my plan.
    My point is, my usage pattern has changed little. yet I am using at a rate 5 times what I was before. And I rarely stream content so I know thats not it. And the times I do, does not coincide with those ridiculous usage figures.
    I get that having more bandwidth will open a stream "wider" so to speak and cause more data usage in order to get better quality. However, in the case of Audio, that extra usage doesnt even come close to justifying these kinds of figures. Much less when posting at 4am when I am fast asleep.
    And forgive me for being a bit curt, but does my post read like I needed to be told that using wifi will save me cell data usage? I know it was pretty long, but at least read it carefully before proposing something so mundanely simplistic.
    And Brian68- Yup, I agree Spot on with you on song size. A 10mb song is a 10mb song. Doesn't matter how fast the stream is. I could see music being compressed, but it most definitely doesn't get any bits added just because the bandwidth opens up. lol What? VZW somehow upgraded my itunes match content from 256kb up to lossless? doubtful.

  • Huge increase over past few months on data usage.

    Huge increase in data traffic, even at times when systems are in sleep mode - like at 6am in the morning.  For months by usage levels varied between 10Gig and 12 Gig and I would adjust my plan as needed to prevent single Gigabyte overcharges.  However, in the past 4-6 months I have had to go to 15GB then 20GB, and what we actually do internet wise has not changed any where near that much.  Yesterday I had 600 meg of data transferred at about 6am when all systems were either off or in sleep mode.  The usage tool on verizon is no help in identifying what is driving this other than broad categories.
    Last night I turned off the MiFi device and there was no data recorded until I turned on at 8:30am then it recorded 800 megabytes only based on turning on the PC and not even using it.  And the hard file light was on solid for a long long time.
    I really need a tool that runs on the PC that shows what program or service is doing this much internet traffic.  I have seen disk I/O using Windows Task Manager that shows a number of Chrome services actively working I/O, as well as Google sync, but there is nothing new here that I have done over the past 6 months - my usage is very consistent. And that tool does not show who is driving the MiFi load.
    How can I get a handle on this?  This is getting very expensive and there is no obvious answer why.

    Personally, I use BitMeter OS for my PC. Any bandwidth from your computer (down/up) is logged & you can view certain days to see when it was used.
    https://codebox.org.uk/pages/bitmeteros
    Also, you may be able to view Mobile AND WiFi data usage (separate tabs) on your mobile devices, under Settings > Data Usage. Click the 3 dots for options.
    I had the same issue, but it was due to Verizon Cloud backing up... all 12gb (mostly pictures I don't even care about!).
    You may have that or another app that syncs data. It should tell you under Data Usage, though.
    I disabled Verizon Cloud through the App Manager.
    Hope that helps!

    I'm using a 16GB iPhone 4S, with the latest version of iOS 8.1.1. Whenever I go to the "Cellular" settings on the main settings page and turn OFF cellular data usage for native apps like mail, app store, contacts, photos etc , the moment I back out and come back in, all the native apps I turned cellular off for are back on again. Exact same question as ankit1986, specifically with the photos while on cellular-only, and as simple as it sounds, I tried the hard reboot Ingo2711 suggested.  Still experiencing the same error with the native apps reverting to on.  It's killing our shared data-plan (2GB).

  • OS X Mail - excess data usage

    I have been struggling with extreme data usage - approaching the 300GB/mo Comcast allotment.  I do not stream HD content or play multi-player games, etc, the normal drivers of high data usage.  Other investigation of Wi-Fi looking for pirates, etc show no unexpected devices using my modem/router.  I closed the router firewall to bittorrent, kazaa, etc.  I finally noticed in the Network tab of the Activity Monitor that Mail was the highest consumer of inbound data, to the tune of 250 KB/sec, which can pile up a GB pretty fast!  Restarting Mail clears the problem.  I finally was watching the monitor while moving through mail messages and when I hit an HTML message with several images, there was a long pause trying to display the message content and eventually just broken images displayed - and usage went to the ~250 KB/sec level!  Going to another message and returning to the "trigger" message showed the images fine, so they HAD been downloaded/cached, but perhaps Mail doesn't know it and is in a retry loop?  Usage stays at this level until Mail is restarted, then all is well, even when going back to the trigger message (as expected due to caching).
    This is occurring on an iMac running Yosemite, but I have NOT observed the same behavior (yet?) on MacBook running Yosemite with same Mail config.  My usage has been high for several months, but I had not investigated until recently.  I had been using Postbox as my mail agent since Mavericks due to the IMAP issues with Gmail.  Since Yosemite seems to have solved that I switched back to Mac Mail.  A Comcast level 2 agent said he had heard of some data-loop issue with Mailplane - another Gmail client app for OS X.  Since I do not/had not used Mailplane, I discounted that cause, but it eventually made me wonder and now this issue has surfaced.  Current Mail config has 1 iCloud, 1 Exchange, 3 IMAP Gmail and 1 IMAP Comcast accounts defined.  The trigger message was in a Gmail account, so is that the common denominator??
    Is anyone else seeing this behavior?  Any ideas for a solution?

    The iOS view vs classic view in Mail is not the problem; I've already configured for classic view.
    Mountain Lion itself is.
    My short list (to date) of crappy Mountain Lion behavior; items marked with a double asterisk (**)represent the worst of Mountain Lion for me.
    ** No up/down arrows in scroll bar slider;
    Expose` not as easy to navigate as in Snow Leopard;
    Mail does not request passwords for either receive or send;
    No "Save Draft" icon in Mail compose window (workaround: use command-s);
    "Save As" selection missing in most app menus;
    No separate Search window in Safari (workaround: use Firefox or Opera);
    ** Can't export Mail from Mountain Lion into Snow Leopard if downgrading (I compiled this list before I stumbled on the method in this thread, but I'd prefer to effect this with Unix symbolic links);
    iWork 09 seems to have "circled the wagons" re compatibility with MS Office or LibreOffice (workaround: just use Libreoffice);

    YES.  YOU GOING TO DO A PLAN CHANGE.  WHEN IT GIES YOU DATE OPTIONS YOUR GOING TO BACK DATE IT TO BEGINING OF CYCLE.    ONCE THAT GOES THROUGH DO ANOTHER PLAN CHANGE BACK TO IRIGINAL PLAN AND FUTURE DATE TO BEGINIGN OF NEXT BILL CYCLE.  THIS ALL CAN BE DONE ON MY VERIZON OR IF YOU FEEL SAFER CALL CUSTOMER CARE AND THEY CAN DO THSI FOR YOU

  • Data Usage went up 3GB in one day!!!  Never went over in 6 years!!

    To start with, I have a broadband card for my computer.  Today I turn my computer on and I have three emails sent yesterday from Verizon.  First was 12/11/14 @ 3:53 p.m. 75% warning.  12/11/14 @ 4:27 p.m. 90% warning and 12/11/14 @ 4:49 p.m.was a data usage overage alert!!  I went on the site to look at "my verizon" and I'm almost over another GB!!!  I looked at the breakdown and it states that I used 2.1GB at 1:15 p.m. on 12/11/14 (which I didn't even have my computer on!!)  then on 12/10/14 at 3.27 p.m. I used 1.1 GB on what?????????????  Is there a way to know exactly what took that much data usage??  I never go over because I watch what I'm loading etc.  If I would want to load a game or something, I would check first how much data I have left.  Now I have to pay for this extra data when normally I don't even use all my data.  That should accumulate like prepaid minutes on a cell phone.  Can anyone help me figure out what happened??  Thank you!

    Upon further investigation, It could possibly be that windows 8.1 loaded on my computer without my knowledge??  It takes about 3.6GB to do this which is about what my data was over.  AAARRRRGGGHHHH.    I don't even see a difference from windows 8!!
    One of the reasons why I have always chosen to have updates notified that they are available so I can choose when to install them even though I have a landline internet connection without a data cap.

  • After getting a txt message from bell today saying I went over on my data usage , I can not access my web browsing at all... There is no restrictions on my account. But I still can't load safari

    Downloading apps, listening to music(streaming) using social media apps, and multiplayer/online games. Email sending and receiving.
    Icloud backups and there's a lot more. Imessages uses data and not SMS unless data connection is down.
