Over exposed background footage...can I fix it?

I recently shot a Celebrity softball game and I have a clip of video where the person I am interviewing is exposed pretty good in the foreground but the 2 guys standing right behind them with white t-shirts seem to be really bright (their shirts). The background including the clear blue sky is really over exposed to the point where you cannot even see the sky. I had my zebra bars on, on the camera. I was shooting inside of a baseball stadium that had spots where it was shade and other spots of the field where it was bright. The sun was behind me in this screen grab shot. I have been fooling around with CC trying to get a happy balance but having a hard time. I am going to include a screen grab so you can see what I am talking about below. So basically I want to try to tone down the brightness of the background but keeping the talent exposed correctly. I have my scopes up and have been monitoring the levels as I go. I selected broadcast safe as a filter along with the CC 3 way filter.
thanks for your help!

As far as I can tell there's not much you can do. Your screen consists as a whole entity. Change one aspect and you change them all. The only way you're going to improve the image is to seperate the foreground from the background and work from there.
You might try layering and experimenting with masks. It's not gonna be great. Plus my experience with overblown whites is that they never get much better even with correction.
Watch DV record. It tends to be hot if your are used to shooting analogue. I set my camera zebra at 90% for that reason.
However, your subject's face is properly exposed. Many times unless you manipulate lighting during the shoot, you'll have exposure problems like this. Plus you have African-American folks wearing white. That's a bear. Anytime someone with a dark complexion wears white, you'll fight the choice between properly exposing their facial features while trying to avoid glowing clothing.
I used to work with an African American news anchor who insisted on wearing white because she said that she looked good in white. Well she did, but the human eye is much more complex than the camera eye. The camera hates those huge contrasts.
Try the 3 way color corrector and try to bring down the whites, but you're not going to get much improvement. Sorry.
Of course, I know enough to be dangerous so someone out there may have another idea.

Creating that blur using my brush. When I paint the area, which highlights in red, I bring the clarity down to create more of that blur but what ends up happening is that my entire image changes too and becomes blurry. Not only that but the area I painted also becomes over exposed. What can I do am I missing something here all I want is to blur a section and not change the rest of the area I am painted by automatically becoming over exposed. Does anyone else have this problem that can help me?

Do you think I should try to find a cheap mobo to OC my current CPU?  How about trying to find one (mobo) used?  I fear that my only realistic choice will be to scrap the CPU and eventually buy a new mobo and CPU, but as the CPU was only released just under two years ago I would value being over to overclock it with a cheap enough mobo to last me another year or so.
Who knows what additional problems may be run into by switching mainboards & such. The OS would have to be reinstalled fresh, etc. Money wise, it wouldn't make a lot of sense to invest more into a system that is rather outdated. The small performance gain making the switch to another board using the CPU you have, just doesn't really make much sense, especially if what you have now is completing the tasks asked of it. Save up some money, set it aside for a future build. There are plenty of new platforms in the works.

  • Over exposed interview

Hi guys, just looking for some creative ideas to salvage some over exposed interview footage I shot on my DVX recently. I used three point lighting but due to a power failure and a reset, the lighting dimmers got unbalanced and my AutoIris came on, and tried to over compensate the frame. (And that's when I lost the zebras) All my other stuff on Manual Iris is perfect except for one ten minute two-shot interview which is over exposed on the hair/back light and faces (I was using a Rifa light for fill). I wonder if there's any creative ideas if I can salvage it? It's not real bad on a computer monitor, but bothers me when it goes out to video and seen on a TV monitor from DVD. Any ideas or tricks (on a Mac, FCP) or filters in FCP that would give me control in the timeline? Your creative ideas are appreciated...I know, I know. Always check the AutoIris is off.

Yea, coming to think of it. They must have shot with badly over exposed footage too.
Was trying to hit it without power windows in FCP with mainly the built in FCP 3 way and the blowout fixer plug-in. Not really awesome, as you can see the colors are starting to neon out, and I didn't really manage to hit the hues cleanly (it's a little magenta, and there's no good white balance spot in there), there's still no detail in a few patches, and the lips are discoloured. Also there's too much cross talk in the highlights control of the FCP 3-way, as a result the speculars on the lady's hair light have been dropped too low while trying to compensate for the blowout on the guy's face.
Color will probably provide some additional precision.

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
I think that your Mac detects your hard disk, but the problem is that your new hard disk doesn't contain any operating system, so your Mac doesn't find any bootable partition and you see a question mark.
If your Mac came with DVDs, insert the Mac OS X Install DVD and hold the C key while your Mac is starting. Then, just install Mac OS X. If the hard disk isn't prepared to install Mac OS X, you will have to erase it using "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)". See > http://pondini.org/OSX/DU1.html

  • How can I fix this Footage

    Hi all,
    The Issue
So I'm working on this video clip, and I am currently having issues with what I believe might be called over exposure (still learning the nomenclature). If you watch the clip you will notice that from one angle the footage looks much more colorful than on the other angle (examples are :30-:40). I am trying to fix this and have no idea how to approach it. I have both PPCS4 and AECS4, I am still learning and having a hard time finding a YouTube video that will help me.
My goal is to try and match the color of the entire video, so it’s much more pleasing to the eye. It’s really a pain in the butt, especially on the parts’ where the softball is impossible to see.
What I did to cause this
So I figure knowing what I did to cause this might help you help me =)
So with of my buddies suggestion (with good intent), I lowered my Sharpening down, my contrast, brightness and saturation. I lowered them all, since he said it would look better if I added those back during Post-Production. Thing is is having the hardest time doing this in Adobe Premiere Pro & After Effects both CS4.
    I am using a Nikon D5200

    ^^ The video

To me the clip looks over exposed.
Try the levels in the Fast Color Corrector to lower the brightness.
The brightness of the adjacent clip needs to be raised.
And try not to cross the line; in the first clip she is throwing the ball to the right, the next clip she is throwing to the left.
You can draw an imaginary line between thrower and pitcher.

    Hi rhaughan,
I see that you have concerns about your operating temperature of your computer while using resource-heavy applications such as gaming applications. I have an article that will address some of the concerns you have mentioned:
Mac notebooks: Operating temperature - Apple Support
    http://support.apple.com/en-is/HT201640
While there are third-party utilities that measure the temperature of a notebook computer, it is important to understand that these utilities are not measuring the external case temperature. The actual case temperature is much lower. Never use third-party applications to diagnose possible hardware issues—instead, contact Apple or go to an Apple Retail Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider.

You say you have iOS 7 beta. If you are a developer you have access to the private OS 7 developer's forum

Otherwise you are on your own since you have a bootleg copy

To import music into your iTunes library on the computer go to iTunes>Help>iTunes Help>Add items to iTunes and follow the instructions
Delete the "songs" that do not play in your iTunes library and reimport them.

    This is what worked:
"In iTunes, I signed out of the store. I exited itunes and restarted it, logged back into the store (with my apple id), then I pulled down the iTunes menu in the menu bar and selected Check for updates.
At this point it said that iTunes 11.1 was available and I'm downloading now " Quoted from a fellow user.
    It fixed my problem.

Try resetting the phone. Hold the home and power lock button until the Apple logo appears. If that does not work, turn the phone off and take the SIM out and then put it back in.
If that still does not work, you may have a defective SIM, in which case you will need a new one from your carrier.

Hi I dropped my iphone 5 in water last night, it is working but has shadow over the screen how can I get this fixed?

Probably too late to do anything but replace the device at this point.
Once electronics get wet, the best thing to do is turn it off and put it in silica gels packs or uncooked rice for a minimum of 72hrs.  Only then should the user attempt to power the device on.

    Try this...
    Restarting your device
    1)   Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red "slide to power off" slider appears, and then slide the slider.
    2)   Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.
Follow these steps to reset your device
Note: Reset your device only if it is no longer responding and the steps above do not work.
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    Restart / Reset
