Over half of my songs in iTunes will not play and they have the ! next to them!

I went to listen to my iTunes yesterday and over half the songs would not play.  When you click on the song the window pops up with a message say the song could not be located and asking you would like to locate it.  They were all playing fine earleir this week.  I really don't want to go through and locate each and every song it would be close to 3,000.  Is there a way to fix it all at once?  Any help you can give me would be greatly apreceated!

i dont think there is nothing u can do i have the same problem and i think its just the way it downloaded. the good thing is that it should be able to play on ur ipod/iphone/ipad but it doesnt play on itunes

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, or by a peripheral device.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode* and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Shut down your computer, wait 30 seconds, and then hold down the shift key while pressing the power button.
When you see the gray Apple logo, release the shift key.
If you are prompted to log in, type your password, and then hold down the shift key again as you click  Log in.
*Note: If FileVault is enabled under OS X 10.7 or later, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t boot in safe mode. Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
There will be no audio output in safe mode. The question to be answered by the test is whether any devices are listed in the Sound preference pane. After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

I purchased the Iphone5 and moved all my info, songs, apps from my Iphone 4 over to my new phone. Now most of my music will play but about 50 songs will show up on my iphone in my Music App but they will not play. I'm so frustrated. I can't figure out why they won't play. Can someone help me?

    Hey ronserickson,
Thanks for the question. If I understand correctly, the songs do not play completely. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help you isolate or resolve the issue.

  • Some off my songs on iTunes will not play

Some of my songs in iTunes are in grey and will not play for me

The message means what it says. iTunes can't find the actual music files. You can confirm that by trying to play the songs in iTunes on the computer.
    - Try:
iTunes: Finding lost media and downloads
    - Next reimport them

  • I have zinced songs from my PC to my iPad  and it has copied all the songs on my pc but some are showing very faintly on my iPad and these songs will not play. I have tried to delete them but they will not stay hilighted and show delete to enable me to do

Can anyone help me to delete the faintly listed songs on my iPad which I have transferred from my Pc but they will not play on my iPad.

Thanks for trying to help me.
First, in you reply (and i've read this elsewhere), you imply that i need to check a box that says "manually manage music."  OK, great, but where do i find such box?  Is that on the iphone or in itunes?  Also, i am afraid of losing what i already do have on my phone.  I have about 150 songs, some of which were purchesed thru itunes, but most of which i "dropped and dragged" from my older computer with the older version of itunes.  When i go to itunes with my iphone plugged in, all of the boxes are grayed out, except one at the top that says "Sync Music".  When i check this box, i get an error warning that says "Are you sure you want to remove existing music, movies, TV shows, books, and tones from this iPhone and sync with this iTunes library?  Music, movies, TV shows, books, and tones synced to [name of my iPhone] from other iTunes libraries will be removed and items will be synced from this iTunes library."
So, i have over 3000+ songs in my itunes library on my computer... obviously that isn't going to fit on my phone. So then, what is going to happen?  I'll lose everything that is already on my phone PLUS it will NOT be able to sync?
Is now the time to buy a Zune?!?  For the company that is supposedly "user friendly", Apple has really managed to screw this one up.
    Thanks, John

  • ITunes Will Not Open and I have Tried Everything Posted...

    Please Help!
I have downloaded the latest version, deleted it and tried again. I have deleted folders, turned off my Norton protection and still no go.
Can anyone here help me from this 7 hour nightmare? I had an iPod and iTunes on this computer before I traded in the old iPod and bought the new 30GB. Now the iTunes won't open and the PC doesn't recognize the iPod when I hook it up. Is there a solution??? It worked with the old one just yesterday, so why is there a problem today with the new unit?
    HELP!!!

Did you install the software that came with your IPOD. You may need to install the "Updater" for that model IPOD before ITUnes will recognize it.

  • Itunes will not open and I have tried fixing it!!

i double click on the icon and it comes up with this
The itunes application could not be opnened. An unknown error occured (0x666D743F)
    Thanks

    First see:
iTunes 7 for Windows: iTunes fails to launch with an unknown error
    There are some other possibilities
That error has been known to be produced by having Total Recorder or the Volume Logic plug-in installed on the PC.

  • ITunes will not play songs on NAS drive

I have a WD My Cloud NAS drive with all my music.  I've been playing the music through iTunes for the last year or so on my Windows 7 Professional PC.  I just upgraded to iTunes 12.1.0.71 and now iTunes will not play any of my music.  iTunes still sees all the music on my NAS drive but clicking the play button does nothing.  Only way I can get anything to play is to import the albums/songs into my playlist in iTunes, something I really don't want to do.

    Hi Josh,
I have exactly the same issue.  I also have many songs I purchased on iTunes that will not download.  It seems random.  I have 3 recently purchased albums that only half the tracks on one album will download, most on another, but only 2 on another.  It's annoying!  I keep tapping download and they just give up saying Cant connect to iTunes'. Even though it is.
Regardless, I have too exactly the symptoms you described, but had them periodically before today.  Again, not sure if its related, but have you recently got an Apple TV?

    Hello, quckvic.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
You will need to reset your Apple ID password via the steps in the first article below.  Take a look at the option that refers to answering the security questions.  Since you do not have access to the email account and if you are unable to answer the security questions, see the second article.

  • Had to have my hard drive rebuilt in my PC (not Mac). When I reinstalled my music library from iTunes, several of the songs did not download properly - they appear in light colored ink on my library list but the songs will not play and will not synch

Had to have my hard drive rebuilt in my PC (not a Mac).  When I reinstalled my music library from itunes, some of the songs did not properly download.  They appear in light colored ink, but will not play and will not synch with my iPod.  How can I get all of my songs back?

If your country's iTunes Store allows you to redownload purchased tracks, I'd delete your current copies of the dodgy tracks and try redownloading fresh copies. For instructions, see the following document:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
Otherwise, I'd report the problem to the iTunes Store.
Log in to the Store. Click on "Account" in your Quick Links. When you're in your Account information screen, go down to Purchase History and click "See all".
Find the items that are not playing properly. If you can't see "Report a Problem" next to the items, click the "Report a problem" button. Now click the "Report a Problem" links next to the items.

  • Downloaded songs frome itunes and internet went down and they will not play and it also caused other songs not to but most will what do i need to do wiyhout erasing everything

downloaded songs from itunes and the internet went down and they will not play and also caused other songs already downloaded not to play what can i do

You can try a couple of different things. First - restart the iPod and see if the songs will play.
Restart the iPod by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
If that doesn't help - delete the songs and then download them again. You can download purchased music again at no charge as long as you use the same Apple ID that you bought them with originally and as long as you live in one of these countries.
Previously purchased music is only available through iTunes in the Cloud in  Argentina, Australia, Belgium, Bolivia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, France, Germany, Guatemala, Honduras, Ireland, Luxembourg, Malta, Mexico, New Zealand, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Slovakia, Spain, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, United States, and Venezuela.
If you are running iOS 5 on the iPod - You can delete songs by swiping across the song in list view to bring up a red delete button. Tap the button to delete the songs. Download the songs again in the purchased tab in iTunes.
