First problem: You're fine. The hotter it gets, the more the fans spin up. The computer is designed so that at max load, at max fan speed, it won't overheat (unless it's obstructed by something, e.g. sitting on your bed swallowed by a comforter). It's not the best thing to keep it that toasty for days at a time, but a couple hours at a time shouldn't be a problem.
Second problem: If something in the trash won't delete, just use Secure Empty Trash and it should be fine. Since .torrent files are quite small, it should only take a couple seconds.

  • How do i sync photos from iphone over icloud to macbook pro?

I am totally confused as to why photos taken on my iphone or ipad do not sync over icloud to my MacBook Pro.
If I sync manually I end up with everything else such as calendar and contacts duplicated.
How can I get the photos to sync over icloud?

Photos taken on one device will sync to all devices via photo stream providing that all the devices are logged into the same iCloud account and photo stream is enabled on each of those devices.

  • Music on iMac how to sync over to new MacBook Pro 15"

I want to sync over my music off my iMac to my MacBook Pro. I have a Belkin Firewire 800/400 9-pin to 6-pin cable. I used this cable to sync over info from my MacBook (3yrs old) to my iMac.
    * I don't remember how I did this procedure. Plus I only want to put the music to this MacBook Pro, nothing else.
Not sure where to go to start the process, and to only check that I want the music.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Val

connect the two Macs with the firewire cable, boot the source Mac in _*Target Disk Mode*_, and copy the entire iTunes folder (not just the iTunes music folder) from <MacintoshHD>/users/<yourname>/music on the source to <MacintoshHD>/users/<yourname>/music on the target (overwriting the iTunes folder in place there).

  • USB Over Current Notice - Macbook Pro 2006

I had an external hard drive connected to one of my USB ports, and I think the AC Power adapter it was using flipped out. The drive no longer works at all. The port (front left) does not work with any devices (powereded or not) now, but the other two USB ports do (powered devices or not). I figured I'd have to take it in to the shop if I want to get the dead USB port working again. Or, is that something I may be able to fix? Anybody know?
Everytime I power up the computer now, I get this notice: "USB Over Current Notice, A USB device is currently drawing too much power. The hub it is attached to will be deactivated."
It must be referring to the front left port as a hub, right? And since the other ports are still working, am I correct in thinking that each port must be considered an independent hub from the others?
I find it notable that the dead USB port is reporting to continually be "drawing too much power." Maybe the circuitry is just fried so it keeps reporting it??? I have nothing plugged into the port in question.
Does anybody have any helpful ideas how I can remedy this issue besides taking it in to the shop? Anything I can do through software?

  • FireWire Audio Heat Problem (Macbook Pro, Late 2008) VIDEO proof

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JYHnX3CGUoo
After a lot of hours of trying to figure out WHY my macbook pro heats up (a lot) when i connect my newly bought Apogee Duet firewire audio interface, i found out that actually what was happening is that there are CPU spikes of extremely short period (so short that Activity Monitor and iStat could not catch) constantly spiking the CPU frequency from 1596Mhz (Idle) to 2572Mhz (Maximum). Apart from the frequency spike there is also a VOLTAGE spike from 1.0v to 1.15.
I know that this is normal due to speedstep technologies and such BUT the rapid spiking and alterations of frequency and voltage ALWAYS happening when i have my Firewire audio plugged is not normal to me. There is nothing else running, everything's idle and i only plug the firewire interface.
Also this is not happening when i restrict OSX from loading AppleFWAudio.kext (either by deleting, moving, renaming it). I connect the firewire audio interface, the leds are illuminating but no heat problem (thats to show you that is not because the interface is self-powered)
Whats going on seems to be similar with the problems occurred after Mac Pro Audio Update to users that was using FW audio devices. They were hearing a sine noise coming from their macpro and propably that was because the same thing was happening. Constant spikes of voltage to the CPU. I dont have a macpro thought so i cant apply the update Apple released for that issue.
Also, my macbook is using Lucent / Agere (LSI) firewire chipset (the particular and known revision 6) but i dont think that this is the cause since Apogee didnt have any problems with the chipset
Info: The app im using to monitor the Frequency and Voltage is CoolBook, can be found here: http://www.coolbook.se/CoolBook.html

Firewire Audio disconnected / or AppleFWAudio.kext unloaded = Idle temp arround 50 celcius (iStat)
Firewire Audio Connected with AppleFWAudio.kext loaded = Idle temp arround 60 celcius (iStat)
If theres a possibility that this is due to bus powered firewire device (cause i have an external FW hard drive that is self-powered and temps are not rising when i connect it) then AppleFWAudio.kext maybe manages something with bus powered firewire.
Maybe when i have the interface connected but the kext not loaded the mA sucked by the interface are too little for causing a temp rise but by the time the kext is loaded and the interface is converting audio the mA required tops up so the temp rise comes from the mA load on the firewire bus and not the cpu itself.
*Even if that's the case, the rapid spikes of throttling on the cpu by the time the Firewire Audio interface is connected bothers me. This isn't something that should normaly happen on an idling machine.*

  • Heating problem Macbook Pro retina 13 late 2013

I'm having problems with my Macbook Pro retina 13".
    I'ts a refurb one.
Can anyone tell me what is normal temperature of CPU on this model, because, it's my first Mac.
When is on my legs, not a flat surface, it gets hot. I'm surfing on the web, and programming in Netbeans, and the temerature of my CPU is about 81 degrees, and it gets pretty how down there, so I wanted to ask someone who has one, is that normal for all MBR or mine is damaged?
Sorry for my English if it's bad, 'cause I'm not from USA...

    mareyu,
I'm running at exactly 64ºC right now, too  fans are at 5189RPM, but I am running Windows via Parallels and just finished a big scanning job on the Windows side, so you're really not too far out of 'normal' range - Chrome does consume more CPU power as well as tasking GPU when watching videos on YouTube. So I would say that you're normal just now.
If you're worried about the heat being generated you should take your machine into an Apple Store or an AASP and have them check it out - there's no charge for a diagnosis.
Also make certain that you don't put the machine actually in your lap or on any pillows, blankets or other cloth surfaces as your MacBook Pro is not a laptop and having it surrounded by cushions and the like can clog the vents.
As I said, if you're worried about the heat, let an Apple tech check your machine - bur from what you're observing, I would say that it's just normal heat (especially when watching YouTube videos using Chrome!).
    Good luck,
    Clinton
P.S. In the time it took to write this, my temps are down and fans are at 3548rpms. I'm sure that once you stop watching videos, your machine will cool down, too.

  • Trying to re-install Snow Leopard over Lion and Macbook Pro is beeping like a memory failure

I installed Lion on my work 15" MacBook Pro i7 to give it a go, and it's not working with the system we use for Active Directory login, so I need to roll back to Snow Leopard.
I don't have a Time Machine backup, but I have pulled all the data I need from the machine, and have wiped the hard disk ready to reinstall Snow Leopard.
I have a retail copy of Snow Leopard that I've recently used successfully for fresh installs on other machines, but now once I insert the DVD into this machine that's had Lion on it, it's not responding and just making alarming BEEP BEEP BEEP noises.
I googled that and it might be bad RAM (possible, but unlikely? the machine has been running very well up until now)
I've wiped the PRAM, but the instructions for wiping the SMC are a bit cryptic for these machines ...
Does anyone have any clues as to what might be causing this? A firmware issue of some sort?
Maybe the hidden EFI partition on the drive won't let you install Snow Leopard over a disk that's had Lion?

Might be some useful info here:
    http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1175934
" I used target disk mode to install Snow Leopard on its partition. I used a friends Macbook Pro, but I put my machine into target disk mode and ran the installer from his user account and optical drive. From a couple things I read online, it seems that Apple recommends putting the other machine in target disk mode and doing it the other way around. I guess some critical files might not have been installed? I also used a retail copy of Snow Leopard instead of my grey recovery disk, so that might be it too. "
"Your machine is newer than the retail copy of Snow Leopard. Use the restore disks it came with.
The installation will need to be done from your machine. You may need to do a net install, so look at "Remote Install Mac OS X" in Utilities."
I'm currently installing from the macbook firewired to the other machine as recommended so hopefully that might help

  • Mail hoging CPU and heating up MacBook Pro

    Hi,
Since more than week my MacBook Pro, running Mac OS X 10.5.8 shows strange temperature behavior.
As soon as I open Mail (3.6), the temperature of my MacBook Pro rises (with as much as 25 to 30 degrees celsius) up to 85° and more, and the fan activates. When I close down Mail the temperature falls back to normal (+/- 55° C) and the fan shuts down. This happens within seconds.
I have SMS Fan Control running on the MacBook Pro, so I can see the actual temperature.
When I open the Activity Monitor I see that Mail uses around 99% of the CPU when it's sitting idle and when it's checking for new messages it uses up to 110% of the CPU. In Console I don't see anything concerning Mail.
I tried rebuilding every single folder in Mail but to no effect.
This is a new behavior. I have owned and used the MacBook Pro for almost 3 years now and I used to run Mail in the background permanently without any problem until last week. As long as Mail is open, the fans are working which is very annoying.
When I create a new user account on the MacBook Pro and open Mail, the problem does not occur. In the Activity Monitor I see that mail takes 0,0% of the CPU when sitting idle and around 25% hen it's downloading new mails.
Does anyone have an idea what causes this behavior and how to fix it?
    Thanks a lot,
    Ivan

Well, this is a complete puzzle. At this point I have no simple solution. I can offer only the option of cloning your system to an external drive, if you can. Do not worry about any possible problems at this point. Use a good backup utility such as Carbon Copy Cloner or SilverKeeper - VersionTracker or MacUpdate - or you can use the Restore option of Disk Utility.
    Now comes the "hard" part.
Boot from your Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the Erase tab, then click on the Erase button.
Now quit DU to return to the installer where you will reinstall Leopard. Upon completing the installation you will reboot to the Setup Assistant. At the end of the setup you will configure your initial admin account. Be sure to use the same username or short name that you were using. This will assure you not have any permissions problems trying to transfer from your cloned backup to the reinstalled system.
Upgrade the new system using Software Update to download and install any required updates to return you to 10.5.8.
Now when you open Mail you can recreate you email account after which you want to select Import from the File menu. You will have an option to import from Apple Mail. Choose that option, then navigate to the old /Home/Library/Mail/ folder on your cloned backup drive. Look for the Mailbox folder and select it, then click on the Import button. This will import your mailboxes. This only works for POP accounts. If you use IMAP for your mail then after you set up the account all your server-based mail will be there.
You can similarly restore your Address Book, calendars, etc. However, third-party applications may need to be reinstalled. And, applications support data for third-party applications will need to be copied from the backup to the new system. They are usually found in /Home/Library/Applications Support/. And, you will want to restore preferences from the /Home/Library/Preferences/ folder on the backup.

  • Moving email over to my macbook pro...

ok... i'm not transfering via FW to my new MBP... i have everything backed up that i need...
    EXCEPT FOR MY EMAIL...
How can I move all my old email and folders over to my new MBP?
    MBP 2.16     http://www.menuserve.com/

Which email application are you using? If you're using Mail or Thunderbird, you can just copy over the data directories for these and put them in the corresponding location on your new machine. For Thunderbird, this is
    ~/Library/Thunderbird
    for Mail, it's
    ~/Library/Mail
Make sure you're using the same versions on the new machine.
Another alternative is to use your mail server to do the transfer. If you're using an IMAP server, you can copy all your mail to a server-side folder ("archive", or something). Once it's on the server, just connect to the same account from the new machine and pull the mail down from the server to a local folder. OF course, this is only a reasonable option if you don't have an excessive amount of mail to move over.
