Over sensitive touchscreen

I have a iPhone 3gs (which is still under warrenty... just) & it has developed an issue over the last few days.
It's touchscreen has become difficult to use as it is over sensitive. You can select something while your finger is a good 2cm's away from the screen. This makes general use of the phone VERY challenging!!
Obviously this is not normal, but is it a software issue which could be rectified with the correct setting adjustment or factory setting restore via iTunes. Or is it a hardware issue that would require a replacement iPhone from Apple under warrenty?
Many thanks in advance for anyones help or advice.

Hello again Modular747,
As advised, I have removed the case & screen protecter & cleaned the screen with a lense cloth. I have tried a soft & hard reset & also resorted to an OS restore from a backup & without..... I even cut my finger nails!!!
None of these resolved the problem of being able to activate the touch screen without actually touching it.
Unless I have developed telekinesis, it appears that the iPhone has developed a hardware fault. Therefore, I will be using the power of my mind to book a Genius appointment at my local Apple store for first thing in the morning!!!
Thanks again for your advice Modular747.

  • Over sensitive double clicking (I think!)

Sorry guys, this isn't exactly AE but I though you might know what's going on.
This is a recent thing after we changed the user on the PC that we're running CS5 on.
Often when I click on say, a PreComp layer in a Comp it will bring that PreComp's timeline up rather than simply select it.
Also there are other cases like when I'm selecting characters in text it seems overly eager to select the whole word rather than a group of characters.
It's very frustrating, I can't put my finger on it but it doesn't feel right, I have to keep corrected my selections.
I thought it was just over sensitive, then I thought it was that the double click was too sensitive.
This is with a Wacom tablet. There are many parameters to tweak like:
    Tilt sensitivity
    Tip feel
    Double click distance
    Sensitivity
    Click threashold
Obviously I have tried messing around with these, but when you're being deliberate about testing the pen all is well. It's just when I relax and start to work faster it starts happening.
Has anyone had this and found suitable settings?
    Cheers

My phone is still under warranty so I sent it back for repairs. It seems to be a hardware issue.

  • My iphone keyboard gets over- sensitive

My iphone keyboard gets over sensitive sometimes, entering the letters as my fingers hover above the screen. This makes it impossible to type anything meaningful. Sometimes it is ok, then suddenly goes crazy, and vice versa.
What can I do to solve this? Please help.

  • My trackpad is overly sensitive?

Over a week or so, my trackpad for my iMac has been overly sensitive. It will click randomly even with a tap on the track pad (i went into settings and made sure the tap setting was off), it will highlight randomly, the list goes on and on. It makes browsing and typing difficult. Is there any way to solve it? I also made sure that my trackpad is clean and i was not accidently putting another finger on it.

If your Mac remains within its warranty period (one year in the US / three years with AppleCare) definitely bring the MTP to Apple for evaluation. Make a Genius Bar reservation: http://www.apple.com/retail/geniusbar/
There have been very rare anecdotal reports implicating wireless interference as the cause of erratic or unreliable operation. If the MTP works reliably for you on another Mac or in the Apple Store, then consider other wireless devices in your home that may be contributing to the problem.
Poor power quality from your electric utility, inadequate wiring - in particular, missing or inadequate grounding, or power anomalies caused by other electrical appliances in your home can also cause the symptoms you describe.

  • Lumia 620 - Over sensitive screen, is this a fault...

    Hi
In certain situations the screen on my lumia 620 will turn mega sensitive. It will detect my thumb above the screen and input letters and characters I am not touching. Sometimes it will even input letters on the bottom row when my thumb is over the top row, or it will think I am long pressing- and I will get accented characters pop up as if I am holding the key.
Locking and unlocking usually solves it, but just now it did it twice In a row. Is this a fault, or just a quirk?

It is generally on the onscreen keyboard that is affected. It becomes impossible to type when it suddenly registers every movement of my thumb- as if I am dragging across the screen, when I am not. Do you imagine this to be a hardware fault?

  • Overly sensitive touch pad

My iBook is coming up on 3 years old. The past several days Iv noticed that my touch pad is becoming smoother and smoother. It's also become very sensitive to any movement. One small touch and it's toally across the page. Iv used a number of things to clean it off, but it's not helping much. It remains sensitive. Is there a normal life span for the touch before it needs to be replaced? Or is this just an individual problem? No idea is it's a simple item to replace. Any one have any hints?

There is a document about touchy or erratic trackpad operation:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=17228
At some point in the past, there also was a way you could try
and reset the trackpad by holding your palm over the entire
pad surface, for about a minute, then pull it away in one motion.
Not sure how that was supposed to work, but I tried it on an iBook
G3 dualUSB model and it seemed to make the trackpad less
touchy at the time. I have not had a need to do these things with
my newer mid-2005 iBookG4 1.33 12" machine, so far it just works.
Hopefully the part won't need replacing; that can be a service job.

Good luck in this, and happy computing!

  • Am I Over Sensitive

In trying to track an order with installation due tomorrow I received this interesting snippet. The formatting is BT's.
"There are no orders that match the details you have entered or that are associated with the account(s) in your BT.com profile. Please check the sales reference, (which is case sensitive and needs to be entered in capital letters) and/or postcode and try again."
It made me cringe - not the first time. More serious is the fact that installation is due to happen tomorrow and my order has apparently gone away. Despite the fact that they should be open although it's Sunday, the help desks I have tried are not.
It's even more serious because I have been trying to get this order in place since 8 August. My log of what has gone on (or not) currently extends to seven A4 pages, and I have spoken/chatted to 63 (sixty-three) BT people up until now.
Let me know if you would like me to publish the log if and when I get what I have ordered.
    Solved!

  • Over sensitivity

While reading the Workflow Forum, I came across the Workflow related tables. Urgent. Please help..  It became a discussion over the use of Urgent and the matter of what questions should be answered.  To my mind this brings up a problem which we should address.
In this case, the question was basically ignored when the answer should have been something like: "here is the basic answer, but this is the way you should look at it".  What we had was someone from a more "classic"ABAP background asking questions about workflow reporting.  We should be reading the questions with a thought to why they are being asked and how we can phrase a response to assist and educate the questioner, with the aim of everyone moving forward.
This would mean that I would hopefully find on sites less uninformed solutions based around bootstrapping a technology, and more solutions using a correct and logical use of the technology.
In short, we are getting overly focussed on what is 'wrong', and less on how we can assist people to learn.  If we take the view that you must be a genius to ask questions, then I wonder who will be left with the 'qualifications' to ask.
It is true there are a lot of time-wasters out there (although I would argue the overall percentage is low) but if the question is too silly/lazy/fatuous then the best response is not to answer.  They will be fielded and possibly mislead by 'point-hunters' at any rate.  (My answer to this is to reward all points with a tshirt saying 'I am a complete idiot and get my clothes from IT fora").  But if the question is a sincere quest for knowledge and understanding, then it really is evident in the text.
At some stage we have all felt ignorant or even scared by something which is new to us, and I think we should all bear this in mind when answering forum questions, with the exception of the truly omnipient.
    You know it makes sense.

    Hi NXO
To a degree I agree that if someone if trying to bluff their way in, then they should stew in their own juices.  What I am more concerned about is that the question itself rings some warning bells to me.  If someone is thinking of programmatically aceessing workflow tables in the first instance, it leads me to suspect they do not know how workflow actually works, which is why I suggested to the person to use the WAPI functions.  At least with this knowledge, their attempt to bootstrap workflow will be conducted in a way which will not be risky to the overall system.
    > If we take the view that you must be a genius
    > to ask questions, then I wonder who will be left with
    > the 'qualifications' to ask.
    > I don't see where anyone suggested that.
The suggestion is my own as an extrapolation of where we go if we are too protective of the forums.
    >  If someone urgently needs to know the names of tables, it's either because
    >  he's managed to bluff his way into a role he can't actually perform, or he's about
    >  to try to.
Maybe not.  When running a workflow course a few years ago I was asked the same question (without the "urgently") by a person who had many years ABAP experience, because they had the impression you could "shortcut" a solution by placing all logic outside of the workflow tempate model.  At the end of the course they had recognised this wasn't a good way to do things and had discounted the idea.
Point is, have you noticed the quality of reply appears to correlate to the quality of the question in a lot of cases as more and more people simply decide not to answer overly simple or silly questions.  And if the point system wasn't around, I believe most stupid questions would go unanswered.
<  But we (or at least I) didn't abuse internet forums to leech other people's
    >  knowledge and experience. The fact that the internet wasn't invented then is
    >  merely a coincidence.
Finally, as someone else whose professional career predates the internet, I agree that things these days require a lot less work than it used to, and there is far more methods of getting a quick leg up without doing the work, but I am pretty certain such people get found out, along with those who pad their resumes and cheat in interviews.
But there is a number of consultants (I think of them as the SAP diaspora) who go from country to country as they fail to complete a project or unit of work successfully.  I have often thought that coming clean and asking for help and mentoring would have reaped them better returns.  And once again I have digressed.
    Cheers

  • W520 Overly Sensitive to Static Electricity- Return or Repair?

I just got a w520 with baseline configuration except for the 3x3 wireless card. I have upgraded the laptop to 16gb of ram and added a MSATA ssd. I love the laptop except for one issue: any amount of static electricity crashes the laptop. The laptop goes black, often with some quick graphical errors and then reboots.
Simply sliding the laptop across the bed causes it to crash (I can swing it around in air as much as I want). Putting the laptop into the padded (nylon?) sleeve in my backpack will also cause it to crash, even while the laptop is in sleep mode. I have had this issue since I have got the laptop on day one (before any upgrades). I was hoping the issue would resolve itself as a software issue. I have since realized it is a hardware issue I have no control over as it is repeatable even while in bios.
This situation leaves me with a dilemma: Return the laptop and possibly get one from a different model/manufacture, or turn it in for repair.
There is currently a huge thread about the issue and other sudden shut downs with the W520, so others have had the issue. However, given the number of laptops sold, I know most must not be having issues. In that case, sending the laptop in for repair should fix things. However, I have heard that the repair service does little to recreate situational problems and would not see or fix my issue, so I would be better off sending the laptop in as a return. However, a return might cost me some additional money and would surely take longer given the long lead times for the W520. Anyone have advice on what to do or any fixes?
Its unacceptable that my laptop has issues right out of the box.

    Return it.
One thing about spending money wisely is to spend it on things that gives you the least problem, especially right out of the box.
If you spend it on a laptop that's already having issue straight up, why should you spend even more time on it to rectify the issue instead of having the manufacturer dealing with it?  Money should be spent on things that are problem-free (as much as possible).  Money should not go to something or someone (a company, in this case) that doesn't work right.
While my W520 is working fine now, I do feel your pain.  I've gone through similar headache (not the same issue) with two W510.
Lenovo might try to charge you for a re-stocking fee, but they SHOULD NOT.  It's as simple as Lenovo didn't provide you with a fully functional and stable product.
Let Lenovo know the issue is that they are incapable of producing products with high consistency of quality control, with low tolerant margin.  It may be a tech design issue, it may be departmental polical issue (e.g. QA doesn't think a certain level of test is needed), might be a cost issue (too expensive to fully test every system), might even be a case of workers are working long hours...
Whatever it may be, it's an issue on Lenovo's end, not yours.  it shouldn't become your problem, the customer's problem.

  • W520 overly sensitive to movement..HDD crash cause?

I had an HDD crash on my new W520 so I ended up getting a new hdd but wondering now if my W520 is sensitive to vibration.
I will sit in a chair with the laptop on my lap and when I get up I will life the thinkpad and then move it laterally to sit it on the table.  Today, I noticed the system stuttered (streaming music) one time and the second time it just shut down when I did this.   I then moved it side to side laterally and actually was able to recreate it -- system paused (music halted) and resumed.   I checked the airbag monitor and see no warnings -- not sure if it would say anything.
I do not think it is a loose solder connection since the movement is quite gentle and I have used think pads for years like this without any issues..even had one to a belly flop from 3 ft and survived -- was running at the time.
Given I had the hdd crash I did get to replace the HDD, it is now accessible from the bottom.  What I do not like about the design is the hdd door has a backstop that holds the hdd into the connector (slides in the pocket to engage a non-latching connector) and then access door has the feature to keep the hdd from sliding back.  It does not seem to be "padded" so more a hard stop. It does have the blue side absorbing.
The chair scenario is just what was going on when the HDD died for good so see this as a clear indicator of something going on and think it is a design attribute.
    Just wondering....

Ah, so not always the two SSDs. Any chance that you are having issues with the Ultrabay III adapter? Others have reported that the loose fit caused disconnection issues, but I believe that you reported that all was well in your experience. There will be a new EC firmware release for a different power management issue (CPU throttling), but I've got no clue as to whether it will inadvertently address the random shutdowns too. I don't think that the engineering team has been able to reproduce a consistent shutdown scenario in spite of having some systems that did do this when in the customers' possession. It's difficult to fix a problem when you can't determine the failure mode scenario.

  • Space bar is over sensitive

anyone else noticing that they're hitting the space bar a lot more accidentally since the iOS5 update? feels like anytime I get near the bottom row I hit it and accidentally insert a period, just me?

Yes, they changed the keyboard a bit. Most of my accidental keyboard hits come from almost accidentally hitting the Siri icon, so I'm kinda glad its a bit more sensitive.

  • Trackpad is over sensitive

After changing a few of the preferences on my trackpad it seems to have become so sensitive to touch that it will jump to a new page or otherwise move around even if I only brush it with my finger.  This is extemely annoying to say the least, as it happens with no intent on my part.  It seems I no longer need to click the thing, just touch it lightly.  How do I get it back to being clickable for actually going to a new site?

i have found that my sensitive trackpad was caused by contamination inside the laptop...   i removed the battery and cleaned the surface that touches the bottom of the trackpad and got some electrical contact cleaner at radio shack and sprayed the bottom of the trackpad and the top of the trackpad where dust and grime can get down in the space around the trackpad...   the electrical contact cleaner has a liquid in it that does not conduct, but i sprayed immediately with the canned compressed air to blow it off and dry it more rapidly...   since cleaning, the trackpad sensitivity has disappeared....
