Over the Air Deployment with iCloud Restore

Most of my devices are unsupervised,   I plan on taking the summer to Restore all the devices and then using a MDM to redepoloy them to the users in the fall using iCloud Restore.
My pilot case has hit a snag,   If I create and icloud backup then restore the device with iTunes.   I can initiate the OTA enrollment but it will not install any configuration profiles if I use the icloud restore.   If I use new ipad or if I restore to a different devcie it works fine.
How to I get this to work so my students can use the restore feature and still get their original device back?
thanks

I'd be careful with access to find my iPhone
if users use their personal account with find my iPhone and iOS 7
You wont be able to restore without the users iTunes account login and password
Presuming your mdm  solution has some sort of web based user portal. You might have to get the students to re enrol the device themselves if the device has been wiped, and a iCloud restore has been performed.
That should re install the certs and whatever profiles you have setup, you'd also have to have some sort of firewalled
provisioning wifi the students could access from the ipad to allow them to access the MDM for device re enrolment

Go to Settings>iCloud and set up the iCloud account you were using before by singing in with the same Apple ID.  Then turn the data you were syncing with your iCloud account back to On, and if prompted, choose merge.

  • Transfering over the air sync with an iPhone to a new computer

I am in the process of switching over to a new PC running Windows Vista. Having installed outlook and itunes on this new PC, my iphone continues to sync Calendar and Contacts over-the-air successfully with my old PC but I can't get it to sync with my new PC. iTunes on the new PC informs me that calendar and contacts will sync over the air, but it doesn't work out on this new PC.
I have tried reinstalling itunes, but the sync still does not work.
Does anyone have any ideas what might be wrong with the set up on the new PC?

I'm guessing your MM sync is not set up properly for your new machine check the links

  • Your contacts are being synced with your iPad over the air from iCloud

tl;dr: iPhone works properly with iTunes 11.1 and iPad does not. Can't sync with both iTunes and iCloud to separate, distinct Calendar/Contact/Notes groups.
    Explanation:
Ever since iTunes 11 was released (I'm on 11.1 now) I'm unable to sync Contacts, Calendars, and Notes via iTunes because I'm using over the air syncing from iCloud. As late as iTunes 10.7, this was okay, because "On My PC" groups would sync perfectly with iTunes, and iCloud groups would sync perfectly with iCloud.
In fact, this still works, today, but only on my iPhones.
However on the iPad I get the message "Your contacts are being synced with your iPad over the air from iCloud." (Well, yeah, I know that. My iCloud contacts should continue to sync via iCloud. I don't want to turn off this behavior.)
The "workaround" used to be sticking to iTunes 10.7, which had correct behavior for both iPad and iPhone. Of course iOS7 nuked that option.
Is anyone aware of another workaround? (Merging my professional Outlook stuff into my iCloud stuff is not a workaround.)

I can place a bounty. $20 USD to your Paypal account for a fix.

  • Can multiple iphones with multiple itunes accounts be synced to one mac keeping apps seperate over the air?

We have about 20 iPhone's in our environment and syncing and updating them has become a real chore lately.  Everyone has their own iTunes account and apps that they use. Is there a way that they can be synced, backed up and updated over the air (not iCloud) to the same MAC?  Because we are in the financial sector we will not be able to use iCloud. Should we look into some sort of private cloud and if so; any suggestions on how to accomplish it would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you in advance,
    J

We have several macs, several ipods, a couple of iphones, several itunes store accounts. So far no problem. You might have to share passwords if you want to share content. I think iStore accounts can only be used on up to 5 computers. We have 7, so have to be a little careful about that. I don't think there is a limit on how many iDevices can be used with one account. I also don't think there is a limit on how many accounts can be used on a single computer (might be wrong about that). You have to be logged into the iStore to download content, and your computer has to be registered with the account to use the content, but once it is on, and registered, syncing to an iPod is not a problem (you do not have to login in again for each account the content was purchased from). I'm just glad I only have two kids, and one wife - things could get trickier in a big family with . . .

  • Over-the-air sync of iphone 4s with windows xp pc

how do i sync my iphone calendar with a calendar on my windows xp pc over the air, that is without connecting by wire.

Your husband's Android is almost certainly probably synching with a server somewhere, not with his desktop computer directly. If you have your calendar on some sort of server - iCloud, Google Calendar, Microsoft Exchange, or the like - then you also can sync your calendar from your iPhone.
    Regards.

  • What does it mean, in iTunes, "your contacts are being synced with Microsoft Exchange over the air"?

    Hello,
I'm trying to sync the contacts on my iPhone 5 with my contacts on my Mac Book Air (merge them), I'm also using Outlook (Microsoft) to manage my email account and my contacts.  I used to sync my contacts from my previous iPhone (4S) with my contacts on my Mac and also with contacts on Outlook.
Now that I have iPhone 5 I missed that sync (iPhone-Mac-Outlook), so I figure it out that in iTunes there is this message: "your contacts are being synced with Microsoft Exchange over the air. Your contacts will also sync directly with this computer. This may result in duplicated data showing on your device"
Every contact created on iPhone doesn't sync with my Mac or Outlook.
How should I configure my iphone and my mac to sync properly??
    Thanks a lot!
    Kind Regards,

Not surprisingly there have been no answers to this question because the only person who knows how to use iTunes/iCloud/iPhone is too busy.

  • How the heck do I sync outlook tasks with reminders on iPhone 5c using USB?  Not at all interested in any over the air methods

Trying to sync my new iPhone 5c with outlook tasks using the USB connection and can't find any method to do this.  Due to data security I am not interested in sync'ing using any over the air method such as exchange server or iCloud.  Updated from a Blackberry to iPhone due to many recommendations but this apparent non-functionality by Apple is a major disappointment and a significant lack of capability.  Any help appriciated.

Windows still allows syncing over USB:

  • HT4191 i cant sync my windows seven contacts with itune because of the "over the air option cant be changed" help me

i cant sync my windows seven contacts with itune because of the "over the air option cant be changed" help me

This sounds like you configured the phone to sync contacts with iCloud or with an MS Exchange email account. If you want to sync directly with your computer you will need to disable the over the air sync settings on the iPhone.

  • Outlook 2010 won't sync over the air with my iPhone 4s

I got my iphone 4s at the same time that my work switched to Outlook 2010.  Now I can only sync calendars manually and not automatically over the air as I enter appointments.  Plus, only appointments entered on the PC will sync with the phone - appointments entered on the phone won't sync with my work calendar at all. What's going on???  I don't know if it's a phone issue or an Outlook 2010 issue, since both changed at the same time. I did notice that new appointments typed on my phone are a different color than those entered on my PC, if that matters at all (it may just be a new feature of ios5).

You're probably running into the servers simply being swamped. Thousands of people are all going for the software update at the same time. Give it a try again and if that doesn't work, then try plugging it into your computer and trying it that way.
I didn't get a notion of the size, it doesn't seem to be as big as the 700 meg 5.0 update, but it did take me 20+ minutes to download via cable internet so it's a large file. That in and of itself takes a while.
If you're trying to download it directly to your iPhone, you'll need to be on wifi since I'm sure it's well over the 20 meg file size limit for 3G.

  • Sync iCal with iphone using .mac over the air

I can't seem to get my iCal appointments to sync with my iPhone unless I use the USB cable. I thought it would sync over the air the same way my email does. can anyone help?

The iPhone does not support OTA syncing - all data is synced via a USB connection with your computer through iTunes only.
Server stored mailboxes for your .Mac account are kept synchronized since you are accessing the account as an IMAP account - the same applies to any IMAP account accessed with the iPhone.
