"Over using" the home button?

I recently had to go online as my Facebook App had crashed and I needed somehow to close the App as, when I shut the iPad down and turned it on again, the Facebook app would still be frozen on that page. I am new to Apple products, I should add.  I wanted to use Facebook but in order to do so, I needed to ensure it shut down completely first.
Anyway, I found the solution: basically, double-clicking the home button and then clicking on the "minus" key beside the dancing Facebook icon. Simple.
However, while searching for said solution, I saw a number of posts, on different websites, on which people said they hate to do this because it is "over using the home button". What exactly does that mean? Can you cause any kind of damage by over using the home button? I don't really understand what the problem is.
Apologies for sounding like a complete n00b.

Reports, even on this forum, of Home buttons ceasing to work (excluding devices that were damaged by the users) are exceedingly rare. The button is designed to be used. I wouldn't worry about it.
Best of luck.

Most intelligent people would not store such sensitive data on a device that could so easily be lost, stolen, or damaged.  Even if they chose to do so, they would use the device as designed and regularly sync and backup that device as described in the User's Guide.
Have you done so?  If you have, all of the data is either in iCloud or iTunes on your computer.  Replace the device and restore the new iDevice with the backup of the old one.

  • How to invoke the app by touching the screen (without using the home button)

Kindly  provide the solutions for the following issues
    1.       How to invoke the app by touching the screen (without using the home button)
    2.       Estimated lifespan running an iPad3 continuously 24x7

    1.  You can only invoke an app by touching its icon.
    2.  All depends on what your app does.

  • HT201412 Is there a way to reboot an ipod without using the home button?

My iPod touch 4th gen is unresponsive and needs a reboot, however the home button doesn't work. How can I reboot it without using the home button?

To reset the iPod without the hardware buttons,
    - Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings. You will have to rejoin wifi networks and repair BT devices

  • Does using the home button in 4s would result to being damage in the long run? I really don't like the assistive.

I do prefer using the home button. Will it somehow be 'damaged' in the long run? I just need assurance. *TIA.

Any mechanical component is subject to failure.  If it does fail, if your device is in hardware warranty, it would likely be replaced.  If you are still within the first year, purchase AppleCare to extend the warranty for an additional year.

ok my iphone 3g touch screen is not responding, i can recieve calls and it can charge and connect to itunes, but i cannot go any further than using the home button or the power button, it is only the slide feature and touch feature that has become non existent.  Also, i have a f'ew cracks in my screen for a while now and it was running smoothly up until saturday when i sat on it applying large amounts of pressure to the phone screen.  Is there a way i can fix this myself without having to recover my phone to factory settings or wasting 50 bucks to get it fixed??

  • My iPhone 4 wont stop using the home button commands.

Ive had my phone since they release the iphone 4, it has been through some ruff times but i havent done any damage to it in a long time. Today after i got home from work, i was using an app and while i tried to exit it i pressed the home button multiple times because it was not responding(it froze) this is when my aggrevating problem began, it will close apps by it self to go to the home screen, open the navigation bar, take a screen shot if i try to lock it or turn it off and voice control turns on by its self. The button isnt stuck & ive tried shutting it off for a long period of time. Someone please help!!

    Hi Ashyrah,
Have you tried rebooting the phone? Hold down the Home and Power buttons at the same time and continue to hold them until the Silver Apple appears (no data will be lost, but it may take up to 20 seconds to reboot and display the Apple, so be patient).
Once the Home screen comes up again, see if things are working a little more like you'd expect them to....
    Cheers,

  • Should i use the home button normally on daliy basis , or i have to use assestive touch to keep more long life for home button

is the home button durable or after some time will be lost

I have a 2+ year old iPod touch.  I'm always closing apps that I don't use in order to minimize background activity that uses battery power.  I've noticed that the home button has become much less responsive recently, no doubt because I'm compulsively hitting the home button to close unused apps.
Thus, the answer to your question is that it depends.  If you are like the vast majority of users, it will not cause a problem.  If, however, you have this strange compulsion to close apps, then it may degrade the response of the home button.  On my iPhone 6, I'm using assistive touch to avoid this.
(Note: I'm aware of the many posts stating that keeping apps open doesn't use up the battery or confuse the operating system.  I'm hard-headed, though, so I just keep closing apps.  By comparison, my wife routinely has 20 or more apps open along with 30+ Safari pages at any one time.  Different strokes for...)

  • Does it hurt the 4s to use the Home button to power on?

My on/off button has stopped working on my 4s.  I can turn it on with the Home button.  Will this cause any problems?

See what they say, but they will probably offer a replacement 4S for $199...be sure to make a backup, in iCloud if you can, before going in.  If they say you need a replacement, and you buy It, they can restore your stuff from an iCloud backup while you wait.

  • How do you change apps on your phone with out using the home button?

Just trying to see if there is an easier way.

You can enable Assistive Touch which puts a small square with a circle on your screen and can use that to switch apps/exit to the Home Screen, I believe.

  • My iphone 4s will not charge nor turn on and it does not reset. This has been going on for about 2days, at first it would only stay to 1% i turned it off to charge better and it will not turn back on nor reset using the home button and lock button.

I have no idea what to do, this is the second time that my phone has completely went dumb on me, the first time was March 2, and after 3hours of charging it finally turned on and charged completely now it does not do that. It stayed at 1% for a whole day (yesterday sunday) and now it does not turn on, and the home and lock button will not reset it. What do i do?? Help...

  • I used the home button for going home and multitasking like for a month because i dont have an idea about the circle thing that you just touch when you go home, so is it bad? Like is my home button is lready shrinking? How do i know?or any comments?

is it okay to use other adapter but apple charger to charge my ipod touch 5th gen. If not, why?
And why you didnt include adapter for ipod touch 5th gen? What if the user or consumer dontt have a laptop?

Would you rather upgrade to windows 8, BlackBerry or Android phones? Do you honestly think those don't have problems?
You waited a lot and chose to buy an early production model. Mistakes happen all the time a factory retools and workers relearn new skills necessary to keep US happy.
Exercise your rights.... Send it back for a new one.
In any case, I feel your frustration. Btw, I love Apple but use a Blackberry

  • The home button on my iPhone 4 gets stuck in when pressed

Periodically when i am using my iphone and i press the home button it get stuck in and is very difficult to get back out. This doesnt happen every time i use the home button but it is happening more and more frequently. It started happening about a month before the iphone warranty ran out and i didnt think much of it. However now the iphone has been out of warranty for a month it seems to be happening more and more frequently. Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix my iphone?

Even though it is out of warranty, take it into a nearby Apple Store (or email/call Apple) and ask somebody about it. It may be you are pressing to hard, or there is a fault inside the button which is causing it to get stuck sometimes.

  • How else can I activate Siri, without having to hold-down the Home button for 1 full second?  You see, I can't hold down the Home button for any length of time at all, not even one second. It's because I'm handicapped with a muscle weakness disease.

The only way I can use the home button is by giving it a firm tap, which my thumb just kind of bounces off the home button. I just don't have enough muscle strength to hold the button, I can only tap it. So I need a different way to turn on Siri, that doesn't require me to hold down any buttons. Cause if I can't even activate Siri, what's the point in me even keeping my iPhone 4S. Please Help.

I did a quick search, knowing that "Assistive Touch" can help with some features, but the only result I fouond from somebody who's tried it is here:
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3461618?start=0&tstart=0
basically you use a lightweight touch on the screen to access the Home button. Holding it down to access Siri might work but might not, according to the post.
    Good luck!
