  • Charge for data that will not be used

    I wanted to upgrade my phone to an env3 and was told that I would need to pay an extra $20 for data access.  I informed the rep that I had no interest in data and have it blocked on my phone.  He told me that didn't matter I still had to pay the extra $20 if I wanted the env3.
    I think when my contract is up I will either find something different to quit using a cell phone.

    The enV3 does not require a $20 data plan.  At one point, it was classified as a "3G Multimedia" device, and required a $10 data plan.  People have reported on these boards that they have been able to activate 3G MM phones without a data plan by requesting a data plan when they activate it.
    I suspect that the rep didn't understand what phone you were talking about, since the enV3 is no longer sold by Verizon.  Just get your enV3 and then dial *228 to activate it.  If it tries to add a data plan, you'll be connected with a rep automatically and you can explain that you don't want data and request the block.

  • Charged for Data usage I didn't use

    I have been experiencing extreme amounts of data usage for the last two months.  I just checked my usage 6 days into the billing cycle and I am already at a gigabyte.  I have not changed usage habits since I have had this phone.  I have a Samsung Galaxy 4G phone, I do not download pictures, music, or video.  I usually get 10-20 emails a day and use the navigator occasionally. I do not use a mobile hotspot and use WIFI in my home.  I have contacted Verizon about this and they were no help. I noticed on the community forum that many people are experiencing the same problem.  My wife and I each have phones with Verizon and a Verizon home phone all of which are on expired contracts. We have done all the things recommended by the forum and I  now wonder if this is a ploy by Verizon to get us to up the data on our plan.  Is it possible someone can hi-jack the data from a cell phone?  If I don't get this resolved I will be looking for another provider soon.

    No there is no secret ploy by Verizon. Please people enough with the conspiracy theories. Explain how come we never have these issues? We have 5 lines on a 6 GB data plan. That's far below the 10 GB the website recommends. The most data we've used in a month in 2.5 GB. Now if Verizon had this plot to secret up people's data to get them to get higher data plans they are sure doing a lousy job if it on my lines. Am I on Verizon's "do not scam " list or something?
    You may think you have everything set right but obviously you don't. Most of the issues here are with iPhones because Apple stupidly set every to use mobile data as the default and in fact makes it where some apps ONLY work on mobile data. Some apps have background data that use mobile data and do it constantly. I suspect it's your e-mail app. Assuming your phone is a Galaxy S4( you don't really make that clear )  Go to Settings them press Mobile Data set the data usage cycle to the dates that your billing period is and it should tell you EXACTLY which apps are using data during your billing cycle. Then you can press the app and it will tell you how much foreground and background data that app is using.

    It would be a good idea to do close down all programs and do a permissions repair. Use the Utilities/Disk Utility application on your Mac hard drive and follow the on screen directions.
    After that, with iMovie closed trash the file com.apple.iMovie.plist file located in User/Library/Preferences. iMovie will create a new file on relaunch.
    If you are storing your project on an external hard drive, make sure that your external hard drive is formatted for Apple. Should be Mac OS extended. If you reformat, first remove all of your data on the external drive to another drive, because reformatting will erase all data on the drive.
    Update all of your iLife programs to current, particularly Quicktime.
    Finally, make sure that you have enough free disk space on your startup drive--at least 10GB, and more is better.

    Have you downloaded and installed an App Store app that you downloaded free from some website instead of from the App Store? If so, that's a stolen app, and you need to delete it.

  • HT201250 Can I partition my external hard drive and use one partion for time machine and the other one for data that i may want to use in different computers?

    I have this doubt. I've just bought an external drive, especifically a Seagate GoFlex Desk 3 tb.
    I want to know if it is recomendable to make a partion exclusively for time machine and let another one so I can put there music, photos, videos, etc that I should need to use or copy to another computer.
    May half and half, 1.5 tb for time machine and 1.5 tb for data.
    I have an internal hard drive of 500 GB (499.25 GB) in my macbook pro.
    Any recommendation?

    As I said, yes. Be sure your Time Machine partition has at least 1 TB for backups.
    1. Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to two (2). Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.

  • Verizon is billing me for data I simply DID NOT USE - huge unexplainable usage every 6 hours - and no one can explain it

    My wife and I both had iphone 4S' on verizon for years with no issues.  My wife recently upgraded to an Iphone 5c and ever since her data usage has gone through the roof.  After talking wtih Apple and Verizon countless times and getting no answers, im reaching out to the community.
    The issue is very VERY obvious in that our detail usage breakdown shows my wife being charged for some data usage every 6 hours for stuff she never did.  And, to make matters worse, my wife is home most of the time connected to wifi!   I don't know what it is, but something, somewhere, which on one can explain, is generating huge amounts of data usage on my wife's iphone 5c ( my phone is fine ).  I will attach a sample picture below which shows just one or two days of this, but this happens every dingle day.
    I want to upgrade my phone and actually get a third line, but im scared to hit this issue on two more phones.  I dont know whats going on here and why no one can give me a straight answer.  As far as im concerned verizon is scamming us by injecting this usage and hitting people with overages.
    Some points:
         - random usage on a clear 6 hour cycle
         - some of the usage is clearly in the middle of the night when we're asleep
         - MOST of the usage is when the phone is home connected to wifi
         - we have turned off background refresh
         - we reset cell data usage in settings and viewed it the next day, it did NOT show the usage verizon is charging me for
    I've seen other posts here and on apple discussion forums with other people having the same exact issue! I want ANSWERS or im going to have to cancel my contract and move to AT&T, which I would really hate to do because other than this verizon has been great!  I've also seen some people mention that verizon polls for usage data every 6 hours, can there be some bug there that is making it use WAAAY more data than needed? ( perhaps an intentional revenue generating bug...??? )
    Please HELP!
    Thanks
    - Rob
    USAGE:

    Hi .... I to have ridiculous charges...I went into verizon tonight and talked to a manager about my data usage which is **...I just got the iphone 5c on Saturday......I showed him how the phone says I used data while wifi and cellular data was TURNED OFF.....we reset  my data to 0 and he watched me turn on cellular data and I went into my APPADVISOR app ....it is a clean app which uses minimal data compared to the internet...I was in the app 10 seconds and I got out quick and made sure the app was no longer running in the background.....we watched me get charged for 6mb of data in 10 seconds which was not only in my settings , but reflected real time in my verizon app that checks my data usage which is what my billing is based on
    ...I have unlimited talk, text with my 4gig of data sharing I have with my wife that we pay 70 bucks per phone a month........he then watched me text my brother on iMessage and get charged 16kb....I message should be free of data....we then went to ESPN for another counted 10 seconds and I got charged 4.8 MB.....the manager was dumbfounded by me showing this to him in real time......he stated the following which I hope is not a lie:
    APPLE AND VERIZON ARE AWARE AND BEING FLOODED WITH DATA USAGE ISSUES WHICH SEEM TO BE REFLECTING SPIKED DATA CHARGES FOR THE IPHONE 5c and 5s ONLY.......APPLE IS COMING OUT WITH IOS 7.0.5 in the next week to fix these issues.....he gave me his card and he took my information and said if in this billing cycle I go over 4 gig of data, he will eat the overage fee.....we shall see what all transpires in the coming weeks but there is something jacked on apples or Verizon's end with the 5c and 5s phones...

  • Mapping feature for queries that cannot be expressed using JDO QL

    In the "Java Data Objects vs. Entity Beans" thread at theserverside.com,
    there was a question concerning the ways to use a query that cannot be
    expressed using JDO QL (for example SQL requests having no equivalent) .
    Among the possibilities mentionned in his answers, Craig Russel said
    that a JDO implementation could map an SQL query to a Java class
    directly :
    "This might be done by a JDO vendor who mapped a user-specified SQL
    query to a JDO PC class. For example, if you have a DEPARTMENT table
    that you want to write an aggregate query for "SELECT D.DEPTID,
    MAX(E.SALARY) FROM DEPARTMENT D, EMPLOYEE E WHERE D.DEPTID = E.DEPTID".
    You would map this query to a JDO PC class DepartmentMaxSalary which has
    a key field deptid and a non-key field maxSalary. The key class
    DepartmentMaxSalaryKey has a key field deptid.
    Now, construct an instance of the key class:
    DepartmentMaxSalaryKey dk = new DepartmentMaxSalaryKey(100);
    DepartmentMaxSalary d = pm.getObjectById(dk);
    System.out.println ("Department " + d.getDeptid()
    + " has max salary of " + d.getMaxSalary());
    When the getObjectById is executed a hollow instance of
    DepartmentMaxSalary is constructed by the PersistenceManager. When the
    d.getMaxSalary() is executed, the implementation of the method accesses
    the maxSalary field which causes the PersistenceManager to executes the
    query and return the result into the field.
    No implementation to my knowledge currently offers this kind of mapping,
    but certainly some will in future."
    Do you consider in providing this kind of mapping feature in Kodo ?
    Thanks in advance.

    Sorry for the delay responding to this question. The thread dropped out
    of my awareness until Rakesh's followup question today.
    We do not currently plan on providing a mechanism for configuring JDO
    objects to load themselves from arbitrary SQL queries at this point. The
    example above seems a little contrived, for a few reasons:
    - Presumably, this aggregate salary object would be read-only.
    Read-only JDO fields/objects are a whole separate topic that we
    have chosen not to address just yet.
    - Where would the complex SQL statement go? Putting it in the
    metadata seems less than ideal, as this would make for a hideous
    metadata file, and even more complexity and more debugging
    problems than using direct JDBC SQL calls. Putting the SQL
    statement into the class also seems awkward.
    - Kodo provides a mechanism for obtaining a connection to the data
    store. When aggregate info are needed or complex,
    non-object-oriented queries must be executed, standard JDBC calls
    to the data store are probably the most appropriate approach, as
    they give you complete access to your data store.
    If we see a significant interest in these capabilities, then we may
    consider them for a future release.
    Thanks in advance.Again, I apologize for the time delay in my response. I hope that this
    answers your questions.

  • Fix for data that isn't returned in responseXML field

    I have a problem where I have a very simple JSP that returns
    me back a list of URLs that are modified to use the correct path
    for where my application is running. This JSP doesn't return as a
    text/xml MIME type, so XMLHttpRequest is returning the data in the
    responseText field, no the responseXML field. Spry doesn't handle
    it, but the fix is simple.
    In
    Spry.Data.XMLDataSet.LoadManager.CachedRequest.prototype.loadDataCallback,
    I add this code:
    if (!xmlDoc && req.xhRequest.responseText)
    xmlDoc =
    Spry.Utils.stringToXMLDoc(req.xhRequest.responseText);
    right above:
    this.doc = xmlDoc;
    this.state =
    Spry.Data.XMLDataSet.LoadManager.CachedRequest.LOAD_SUCCESSFUL;
    This will check to see if the data could be in the
    responseText field, and setup things appropriately.
    I did figure out how to change my JSP so it returns, but the
    above still could possibly useful, so I post it here.
    -d

    Thanks for posting the workaround doug!
    I was actually thinking of modifying the XMLDataSet so that
    callers could get a hook when cases like this came up so they could
    either flag an error if it was unexpected, or if they knew that
    this non text/xml mime-type was really an XML format, go ahead and
    parse the doc like you did in your case.
    Another thing I was thinking of doing was splitting out some
    of the XMLDataSet code into a class that it could derive from so
    folks that wanted support for other HTTP based protocols had a
    starting point which had most of the functionality they needed.

  • How do I search for data that's not there?

    Scenario:
    The store managers are supposed to upload the previous days data by 11am the following day.
    I have a table of stores (74 records, 1 for each store) and a table of events (3600+ records,1 for each store per day). When I look at the event data selecting a specific date, I can see I only have 71 records, but I can't easily tell which stores are missing.  I want to gather all the events for a date, then look for the store records and report only if the store is NOT there.  I have tried the following linking options:
    store.store_no (equal to link) event.store_no (gives all 71 event records, as expected, but not the ones that aren't there)
    store.store_no (not equal to link) event.store_no (gives all 71 event records, for each store record, store1, event 1, store1, event2, store2, event1, stove2, event2, etc) I believe this is because it's looking for the store match first, not the date, then the store)
    store.store_no (left outer join) event.store_no (gives all 71 event records, as expected, but not the ones that aren't there at the bottom, like the help states)
    I thought of subreport too, but you can't like on what's not there.
    does anybody have any clues?
    BTW, I'm using 8.5 but can change to 10.
    Thanks,

    Carl,
    Thanks so much. I took we a while to get the formatting correct, here's what I ended up with:
    SELECT
        store."store_number", store."address1"
    FROM
        "sac"."store" LEFT OUTER JOIN (SELECT * from "sac"."posj_event"  WHERE  posj_event."business_date" = {d '2009-07-08'} ) ev  ON store."store_number"=ev."store"
    WHERE
        ev."store" is null
    ORDER BY
        store."store_number" ASC
    My original report was set to look for CurrentDate-1, which translated to {d '2009-07-08'} will that still work here?
