Overclock a i5-4670K on a B85M-E45 does not work

Hi
I have a MB, B85M-E45 with an i5-4670K which i cant OC. In bios setup i cant evan set it from deafault.  Feels like it wont recognize that the CPU is a "K" version. When trying to use OC Genie the computer won't start right. The solution then is to reset the bios and then it works but not OC.
Is it a Bios issue or what?

Bxx board are not able to OVERCLOCK

  • [solved] H67MA-E45 does not boot

    motherboard:H67MA-E45
    cpu: i5-2400
    memory 2x 4gb corsair DDR3 (XMX8GX3M2A1333C9)
    +keyboard + DVI-D display
I've tried booting with everything else disconnected but all I get is those four beeps, ta-taaa-ta-ti. all four leds on a motherboard are also lit. nothing on a display.
result is the same with all four following trials:
    memory A in slot1 and memory B in slot3
    memory B in slot1 and memory A in slot3
    memory A in slot1
    memory B in slot1
if I boot without memories, system get's in to loop where it boots, shuts down and reboots.
this makes me think that memories might be ok as in single memory case they both work same way.
I tried re-mounting CPU but it made no difference.
I tried resetting bios  but it made no difference.
Motherboard, CPU and memories are all new. I am replacing broken stuff (My assumption is that motherboard and it's capacitors caused the failure) so I can not completely exclude power supply being faulty but I don't think this is very likely.
    any ideas?

decided to do one more try before going to sleep...
for some reason, cpu / motherboard did not automatically wake up my display, right after boot I disconnected and reconnected the display cable and now it is up and running.
    so there went my sleep

  • MSI E350IA-E45 Wake On USB does not work

I spent hours trying to get the computer to be able to wake from my usb devices. I enabled it in the bios and in the Windows 7 device manager. However, it doesn't work. The motherboard cuts off power to the USB when in S3 sleep mode. Has anybody been able to get Wake From USB working on this board or is it false advertisement?

Mine works with a USB mouse but not Bluetooth mouse.... My BT also has issues on cold start, until I jumped the 5volt pin to the 5v stand by on the power supply

  • Does MSI B85M-E45 support 4K UHD Support? - which is correct???

    I want to know if the MSI B85M-E45 motherboard supports 4K UHD ? (3840 x 2160 resolution).
When I read the overview of the MSI B85M-E45 motherboard it says it does supports it (it is mentioned in two different places)
However, when I see the 'detailed specification' it says the following :
    1 x HDMI port, supporting the maximum resolution of 4096x2160@24Hz, 24bpp 2560x1600@60Hz, 24bpp 1920x1080@60Hz, 36bpp
    So why don't they mention 3840 x 2160????
Can someone at MSI clarify the situation??? Why don't they mention it?? Which is correct on of them must be wrong?
I need 3840 x 2160 at 30Hz on the HDMI port. This is to support a UHD monitor.
This site, wont' let me post links to MSI own web site!

So anything less than that should be covered... It wasn't a list, just maximums.

  • Downloading drivers and such for B85M-E45 online

Hello. When replying, please bear in mind that I have no idea of what I am doing whatsoever.
I am currently setting up my new pc with a B85M-E45 type motherboard. My pc does not have a optical drive since I did not think it would be necessary, and I can see that the stuff I need can be downloaded online, so that is just great. Problem is, I have no idea of which files to download and where to find those. I got two DVDs with the pc, one called Drivers & Utilities, another one called Afterburner I think.
My pc runs a 64 bit Windows 8.1.
Would someone be so kind as to show me exactly what to download from MSI's website?

    Hello,
You can find all the drivers and utilities >>HERE<<. Just pick your OS and download.
From the "Drivers" section you surely need:
Intel VGA Driver (Only IF you don't have dedicated graphics card like AMD or NVidia)
    Intel Chipset Driver
    Intel Management Engine Driver+Microsoft hotfix
    Realtek PCI-E Ethernet Drivers
    Realtek High Definition Audio Driver
    And from "Utility" section:
Command Center (worth to have it to monitor and control fan speeds, CPU temps etc)
    Network Genie
Fast Boot (if you plan to use FastBoot feature from BIOS)
Anything else you can install but might find useless. Nothing from Utility section is required, but you may find those I have listed to be useful.

After setting the system togheter I am not able to transfer any video out to my monitor. All cables are correctly attached according to the manual, all the fans are working etc, but no video. The monitor is working perfectly on other systems so I supect there might be somthing wrong with my motherboard or my video card.
Does anyone know what can be wrong?

Have you flashed the mainboard bios to the most recent version?

I would say "RMA the motherboard" but 2 MSI B85 boards having problems with HD7790 cards...strange.
Lots of things can cause this issue especially with AMD cards and if you have an under sized psu as well, there is nothing strange about this.

  • Why is that 785GT-E63 bios does not allow GPU overclock?

Why is that 785GT-E63 bios does not allow GPU overclock?
while other motherboard on the same price range or perhaps cheaper allows it.
Anyways there are software solution but I hope a bios support would do. My old Geforce 8300 supports overclocking GPU via bios.

From my past experience, I would try uninstalling CCC and install ATI Tray Tool, or ATI Tools and see if you can OC a bit that way - if you do remember dont OC far just a tad as it will likely cause heat issues and onboard GPU is fanless.

  • 785GTM-E45 - Will not boot

I purchased a bare bones system from Tiger Direct for a basic livingroom multimedia pc to basically run Boxee and we browsing.  The kit included: MSI 785GTM-E45 DiabloTek Barebones Kit - MSI 785GTM-E45 Motherboard, AMD Phenom X4 9750 CPU, CPU Fan, Patriot 2GB DDR2 RAM, Seagate 500GB HDD, DiabloTek Elite ATX-Mid Tower Case, 450W Power Supply (Here is a link to the system: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/searchtools/item-Details.asp?EdpNo=500255&sku=B69-0367&SRCCODE=WEM2675N&cm_mmc=email-_-Main-_-WEM2675-_-tigeremail2675).
I have built several systems in the past and I have never had an issue before.  I received everything in the mail and assembled but the system would power up for about 3 seconds then turn off - essentially the cpu fan would turn on then off immediately.  After doing some troubleshooting it turned out to be a bad power supply.  TD shipped me a new case and I transferred everything over and it now turned on just fine and stayed on.... BUT it would never load the bios, etc.  I have cleared the cmos, reseated and double checked for extra mounting pins on the MB case, reseated the ram.. no fix.  I even followed the "flow chart" here: http://www.msi.com/service/cannot-boot-up-properly/
I have unplugged everything and put the motherboard on a nonconductive surface...same result.  Unplugged everything and unplugged the RAM hoping to get some system error beep.. NOTHING..ugh
The motherboard powers up, CPU fan turns on, the HDD spools up and runs but that is it.  No USB ports light up, the DVD drive does not come to life and there are no system beeps and the monitor never gets any input from the motherboard.  I am not running a seperate video card - just the onboard video.
What are some next steps for troubleshooting to get the system up and running?

Exactly!  No beep codes at all.  I unplugged everything including RAM to see if I could start troubleshooting component by component but with no beep codes.  I have been swapping out RAM/HDD/removing from the case and starting it up on a non-conductive surface, you name it...no boot and no beep...

  • Overclock i7 Not working ? why?

With i7z i am noticing that my overclock on my 3700k is not working. it works under windows. however not linux? why is this? i7z only report 3900mhz with mprime running. windows 8 goes to 4700 as my overclock in the bios is set to.

I was wrong: the xfce4 applet does not display the correct speed; nor does /proc/cpuinfo which is really crazy:

  • Z77A-G45 & 3570k Overclock not working in Windows

hi my specs in my signature. my problem is overclocked frequency is not working after 1min in windows.
i did the exact same settings at this post because we've got the same mobo and cpu

i see 4.4ghz in bios but i have problem in windows. when windows loads i run cpu-z quickly. i saw the 4.4ghz with "4400.00Mhz , x44, 100bus speed" but when windows loads all my startup programs than goes into idle mode my problem starts. i stress the cpu with aida64 or intel burn test my cpu stuck at max 3.4ghz which is stock speed for my cpu. i cant pass 3.4ghz.
whats wrong with my mobo or cpu ? do i need a bios update ? i always afraid of updating bios
and there is one more thing. when i overclock with just increase the cpu ratio to 44, overclock works both in bios and windows. but there is another problem, in windows cpu not downclock when idle it works always 4.4ghz. eist,c1e,overspeed protection and c-state options are enabled, and windows power option is "balanced".
why am i not succed at the overclock  please help me thanks

i found why my cpu goes above 3.4ghz. after windows loads i open cpu-z to check oc speed, after cpu-z i open real temp thats what limits the cpu speed. in real temps settings disable turbo option is active, i deactivated that and i saw my overclock speed but my temps are high i guess(?) for 4.2ghz and i want 4.4. i turn back to stock speed

What exactly do you mean by "x1.0" strap? You mean the memory multiplier/ratio?

just overclocking using the FSB results in failure to boot at (iirc) anything above 105??
This system architecture is not designed for significant changes to the base clock.  Overclocking is supposed to be done via the multipliers/ratios only.  The behaviour you describe is absolutely normal.

  • Z68a-GD55 Overclocking issues (OC settings not working on reboot)

    Hi all;
Quick synopsis of my issue - Z68A-GD55 board, I5-2500k chip;  overclocking the CPU to 4.2 Ghz, bios version .50 according to Live Update 5 scans.   Whenever I reboot my machine,  the CPU returns to default settings (Intel quick boost,  chip running at 16x multiplier idle, 33x under load instead of 42x constantly).  I don't know why the overclocking settings won't affect my machine after reboot.   I've tried updating the bios to .60 via Live Update, but it doesn't seem to take.  When I look in the BIOS settings, it still looks like my OC settings are there, but the CPU still only runs at 33x.  Any hints / help?

Sorry about that;  let me try again.

This is what I've tried so far for overclocking settings :
    1) Set the multiplier to something close to the base setting;  say x38. No Voltage changes.    Boot into windows, stress test with prime 95; everything looks ok.  Reboot the machine,  and the system acts as if the multiplier is still x33, even though the BIOS reads x38.
    2) Using the OC Genie to test;  this sets the multiplier to x42, CPU Voltage to 1.350 (and a few other settings I don't have access to at work, at the moment).   Boots fine into windows, passes prime 95 tests;  I've played BF3 for hours at this setting.   I reboot, system runs as if the BIOS were back at default.

  • MSI B85M-G43 could not detect Gigabyte R929OC 4GB 3X Windforce

I recently build a new PC a month ago and have been using it for 3 weeks then random black screens problem started to occur.
It started right around the time after I updated to catalyst 14.4 w/o the beta. At the same time i noticed windows update has updated some files which i did not note down what it was. Also Noticed that startup list had some new programs running.
I proceeded to disable the programs in startup, undo the latest windows update and finally reinstalled windows 8.1
Nothin works and I am left with black screen, which i realised that to be actually the mobo not detecting the card once i got a vga screen plugged in to mobo onboard graphics and went to BIOs to see.
Previously my BIOs were updated to latest through the liveupdate 5 program, which itself updated to liveupdate 6. For some reason I dont like programmes sitting at the back constantly checking for updates, so after updating those, I deleted all those programs. The updates also took forever to download, I figured i will download/install individually in future. Now that I do a search there is no live update 6?
Just to make sure, I have reflashed the BIOs to E7823IMS v3.6 again through the m-flash inside BIOs, but did not choose the BIOs + ME option as i dont know what it is. After reboot, BIOs version remained there, checked for ME and there's the version number 9.0.21.1462.
    BIOs version:  E7823IMS v3.6
    ME version: 9.0.21.1462
Prior to the Win8.1 reinstall, my OS was sitting on my SSD in non UEFI mode, I chose to install in non-uefi as i dont know what it was then. When i tried to reinstall, somehow the boot priority identified the SSD as UEFI first, so i wanted to give it a try and proceeded to install win8.1 in UEFI until reboot failed. Then I decided to installed my win8.1 on my HD in non UEFI instead. The system, as usual, works using the integrated graphics and mobo could not detect the graphics card in the only PCIe 3.0 x16 slot. Should I plug it into the PCIe 2.0 x16 slot and try, It never occur to me until now as I thought that was the only slot my graphics card could use.
    Please help

try to update your bios again but use the BIOS + ME option as it will flash not only your bios but Intel ME at the same time.
Note: Don't remove your USB during bios flash as the system will restart for I think around 2 times and plugging out USB might kill the MB bios.
Did you modify any settings in the bios setup??
If updating bios not can't work, try to plug your card to second PCIE slot and see if it could boot or not.
