Overclock with MSI Ultra KT4 MS6950 motherboard

Hi, anybody know how to overclock Athlon XP2000+ on MSI Ulta KT4 MS6590 motherboard, I 'd tried to set FSB to 166Mhz, but it went blank screen.

an XP2000+ and FSB166?? lol you nuts?
its like 12.5x166 = 2.1 ghz!!!! you have to unlock it to reach the low multipliers (8x, 9x, etc)
Try from small boosts, like FSB 138, 140, etc etc
when you reach your top oc speed (depends if you RAM can handle that high settings)
ive heard that the KT4 Bios doesnt like high fsb speeds, and i tested one and only reached FSB 140 top, so maybe future BIOS revisions will correct that
good luck!

  • Overclocking with MSI KT4 ULTRA

    Hi,
I'm currently overclocking my XP 1600+ Palomino to just under an XP 2200+. My Idle temp is 39C and 47C at Load. My CPU is still locked and I'm running at 167FSB x 10.5 = 1758Mhz / 334 Mhz DDR. So far this is the highest stable overclock I am able to get with my current config. I want to get up to atleast a FSB of 180 - 185 to give my GeIL 512MB DDR433 PLATINIUM some sort of challenge, but I can't get the board to post at anything higher than 168FSB. Is it my board topping out or my CPU? What kind of overclocks is everyone else getting with their KT4 ULTRAs? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks  )

Hehe so u think all is about MHz!!!????
If u think so go and get some education about overklocking!
I have reached 209FSB!!! Thats overkill!
And im running my system now on the min level x9 Multippel.
And that wil give me a damn strong and powerfull system, I can overklock it to reach the MHz frequence to but i dont right now, i must get a new mobo first, MSI is only !!!
Its up, i wil get a ABIT, or EpOX mobo. then i+ll show u  :D
Hmm i have a picture if u want.
But i dont know how to make a link to it, becouse i dont have a webpage now.

  • MSI GeForce GTX 970 with MSI Z68A-GD55 (G3) motherboard

    Hi!
I have seen a similar issue here that was resolved with the help of this forum. (https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=251322.0). I still want to ask my questons however, since I have a slightly different situation.
I recently bought a new Graphics card, a MSI GTX 970, to replace my older EVGA GTX 570. After installing it, the time it takes to startup the computer is quite a bit longer. The very begninning of the startup process is the part that takes longer, I see a black screen and "B2" in the lower right hand corner, with the older GPU this was seen for a few seconds but now it stays that way for about a minute. After that I see some random colors in stead of the MSI logo and then the regular "Starting Windows" image appears, from there the startup is as fast as before.
When the computer has started it seems to work perfectly, and the new graphics card is great, everything on "ultra" in games etc.
I guess the way to resolve this issue is to update BIOS. I am a bit afraid of this however, of the risk of destroying something.
What would be your suggestions? Is it better to update bios or to leave it as it is, since the computer works? Are the any risks with keeping this bios version, that seems to have some issue with the graphics card?
Any help would be greately appreciated!
    /Johan

    Ok, thanks for the advice.
I have started looking at the instructions and have downloaded the installer and the bios file. It seems Norton Internet Security has some problem with the installer.  When I start the installer it reaches the point when it shows the current bios version, after that it is interupted by Norton. The reason that Norton gives is that it has found something called "Suspicious.Cloud.9.B" in the file b4.bks. How should I react to this?

    Hi,
I would love to overclock my q6600 from 2.4 to 3.0 Ghz.
I've bought a new cooler and placed it.

    Thats right, as 10acjed said
    (2x) 1 GB DDR2-800 DDR2 SDRAM (6-6-6-18 @ 400Mhz) (5-5-5-15 @ 333Mhz) (4-4-4-12 @ 266Mhz )
I can also choose 800 Mhz like the picture of his, but the adjusted dram frequency differs and 800 will result in like ~999.
Btw the dram Mhz is on generally on [auto], but that is the same as 800.
So I set it to 667, So the adjusted dram freq will be around 830.
that could be your problem right there. Is that when you are running at 300 FSB??
Try it at 533 and see what happens... If it is at 830 when set to 667 and you try and raise the cpu  higher its also raising the ram higher, probably causing an issue..
I am still pretty sure you are hitting a wall with that board, its just not a great overclocking board. I am extremely disappointed with my NEO-F as far as overclocking goes. But its been running stable for about 3 years now so its a good board....
If all else fails run it at 300 - 320 (as high as you can get stable) and put the ram at 667 so it runs around 830, ou will have a nice moderate OC...

  • Turbo Overclock with MSI P67-GD55

    Hey,
I'm trying to overclock my 2500K, but I don't want it to run always on the OC Clockrate. Now I read it should be possible to change the Turbo Multiplier so the OC only applies when heavy CPU Power is needed. When I check my BIOS and go to Overclock>CPU Features. There I find: core 0 on 37x,1 on 36x, 35x,34. But the problem is, that I can't change these values. Is this locked at the GD55 Motherboard?
    System specs:
    Latest BIOS version
    Intel Core i5 2500K
    MSI P67-GD55
4 GB RAM Kingston HyperX 1600Mhz
    Samsung Spinpoint F3
    Nvidia GTX275

Please read this article to better understand the turbo boost technology. http://www.legitreviews.com/article/1501/2/
The technology applies max turbo boost to 3,7GHz only on lighter loads, i.e. when one core is being used. As sson as more than one core is under load the turbo boost will reduce until under full load the processor will only run at 3,4GHz. This ensures smooth transitioning between loads and a better performance under loads. There is no reason to disable this.
Furthermore, you will find when your PC idles, the clock frequency will actually go down to 1,6GHz or there abouts to conserve energy and reduce heat generation. Under light loads the Processor may run anywhere in between the minimum and maximum defined Intel clock frequencies.
If you were to increase your CPU multiplier to say 40 and leave everything else alone, then the maximum core clock applied will be 4,0GHz, but the PC will still reduce back to idle when there is no load. Give that a try and observe the behaviour. Download CPU-Z to monitor the voltages and frequencies.

  • Incredibly terrible overclocks with MSI GTX 670 PE/OC

Been using my GTX 670 PE/OC for about a month now. Since the card was supposedly made with overclocking in mind, I decided to give overclocking a try. To my astonishment, the card is perhaps the worst card I've ever had for overclocking. Using MSI afterburner with voltage turned all the way up and power limit at 114%, I could barely overclock to +20 on the core and +600 on the memory. Even at that overclock, BF3 is crashing all the time, especially when I'm doing well. Its incredibly frustrating. The only reason on got the Power Edition from MSI was because it was supposedly designed with overclocking in mind. Had I known it would be so terrible at overclocking, I wouldn't have gotten it. Am I overclocking this card wrong or is this card a dud?

Overclocking is a matter of the individual sample. One might clock great while another of the same model won't. A great board design is useless if the gpu is just a bad draw. The memory doing + 600 Mhz is an absoluely astonishing clockrate only very few GTX670 or 680s would make.
Note that overvolting the GPU is locked due to Nvidia forcing MSI to and any set voltage will result in no more than 1.175v unless you have an unlocked vbios and the right Afterburner version (2.2.3 or 2.2.5 beta 1). Please read >>How to use MSI Afterburner<<
For further assistance add your system specs.

  • Obtaining 2400MHZ with MSI 6712 KT4

    Hi All,
I have recently purchased the MSI6712KT4 motherboard along with an Athlon XP 2400+ processor.
Looking at the CPU support for this motherboard MSI suggest a FSB of 133 and ratio of 15.  This setup only gives 2GHZ.  It appears I am unable to achieve the full 2.4GHZ.
Could anyone please advise if this is correct of if it is possible to obtain the full speed?
    Thanks,

    Thanks grabbie,
I'm more than happy with the setup.  Just wanted to verify I had done right and was getting all I should.

  • Sudden shutoffs with MSI K8N Neo4-F motherboard

I have reviewed other posts on this forum and it appears that this is usually a PSU problem, but mine is somewhat recurring, so I thought I would post to check.
I built this computer ~3 years ago. After a couple of years I would experience random shutoffs. Either when I was using the computer or not, the computer would suddenly shutoff without warning ~ once or twice a day (often but not always associated with reading/writing to a second hard drive as part of a backup routine). In order to start the computer again I have to unplug it, wait for the flashing power light to turn off completely and then plug it back in again.
I replaced the power supply with a RAIDMAX Hybrid 2 RX-530SS +3.3V@28A,+5V@34A,+12V1@20A,+12V2@17A, [email protected], [email protected] and the problem was corrected for several months.
A few days ago the problem reappeared exactly as it was before. What is the probability that it is again the power supply? Could something about the motherboard be frying the power supplies? I don't have access to another one so I would like to narrow it down before I have to replace something. Replacing this old 939 motherboard won't be easy, so I hope to avoid this.
    Thanks!

I got a new one of the Raidmax power supply, which did not resolve the issue. Because the same exact configuration had worked for over 100 days (and for about 2 years with a previous, weaker power supply), I decided it was the motherboard. I realize this wasn't an ideal power supply, but again, the fact that this configuration had worked for so long indicates to me that it is very unlikely to be the power supply (unless the motherboard has become more picky with time).
I replaced it with a ASRock 939Dual-Sata2 and everything appears to be working great now!
Thanks for everyone's suggestions. I thought I would update the status so that other people searching in the future would know that replacing the motherboard could solve these problems (although because I didn't replace with the same motherboard I can't be 100% sure that it was solely to blame here).

  • Cant overclock with MSI G41 P33 MOBO!!

Hello, and thanks for reading, and maybe helping..I Have a core 2 quad q9550 and im trying to overclock to a 3.4 or 3.5 But it wont let me!!.. when i get into bios and try, it just wont do it not even to 2.9 and its a 2.8 processor...I have set it up as follows in BIOS C1E Disabled...EIST Disabled...Spread spectrum Disabled....Then I set my clock speed and NOPE!!! what am I doing wrong please someone HELP!!!!!! Should i optimizer settings first?? Or what??

A G41 board is way no oc board. Add your system components explain what you are exactly setting in bios.

in the second link there is a client called ClockGen, is it any good to try ? Or is it better to use Bios for OCing ? I have read what was written there that the client is better to use than the Bios , but do you think this client is really good to use it instead the Bios ? Or is there another client to do the job better than this client ?

but i dont now if i could use my RAM that i own now. could you help me out.

None the less that Corsair kit should work although a 4x4GB kit is not optimal for a dual channel system (as 2x4 or 2x8GB would be ideal). That matched 1.5V kit should none the less work.

  • MSI 915G Combo2-F motherboards & SLOWDOWNCPU.EXE

    Hi,
I have built about 20 systems for clients this year (containing MSI M/B's) but recently, after putting together 2 identical systems with MSI 915G Combo2-F motherboards and Intel CeleronD 331 (2.67GHz) CPU's a problem has arisin after a short period of use by my clients (2 weeks from one and a couple of days from the other).
When the PC has booted into the Windows XP Pro (SP2) desktop, if quickly displays the icons on the desktop then the screen full goes a colour sometimes blue, but othertimes brown or whatever.
The PC has locked up as the caps lock won't respond from the keyboard.
I've then booted the PC's into safe mode and checked out the boot locations in the registry, the file SLOWDOWNCPU.EXE has been set to boot on startup from the location C:\WINDOWS\INF\MSI.
Now I assume this program was loaded upon installing drivers from the MSI M/B CD, but I have not installed any utilities, only LAN, VIDEO, AUDIO & INF drivers.
Once the entries have been deleted from the registry, the machines booted up normally and haven't had a problem. My question is, what is this file and why is it having an adverse effect on these systems?

I still have no idea, where did this SLOWDOWNCPU.EXE come from to be exact?

To me, I still feel that it's a spyware as I've yet to encounter the same thing after installing so many MSI system.
1 thing for sure is I did not install any of MSI proprietiary software.
    seems to be MSI application:
SlowDownCPU.exe -->  (MSI Computer Corporation) SlowDownCPU utility.  Disastrous motherboard utility found on PCs built with specific MSI motherboards.  This utility is supposed to increase the compatibility of those motherboards with Windows XP SP2.  Well, all it does is generate startup delays,  “Failure to load hardware monitor driver”  errors, random computer crashes or seizures, random shutdowns, and random reboots.
there is no info what exactly "fix"...
