OverClocking Center, no gui opens (Win7, 870A-G54)

Dear all,
this is my first post in this forum. I have a fresh install of win 7 64 bit on msi 860A-G54, and I downloaded the latest OverClocking center.
It installs fine but when I run it it does not open any window.
Should it not? It is running however (visible in task manager) and if I try to start it again I get a message that is is already running.
Does this ring a bell? Anything I could try, or more info I could give?
I heard other startup-programs could cause problems, but I'm not sure how to investigate.
   cheers, ddoobb
more details, 6 core amd. And radeon 6950_DCII-2DI4S-2GD5 with all the drivers and software running.

>>Posting Guide<<
click on your Start menu, in the search field right at the bottom type in: Config sys
The pop up will have a selectable item called "System Configuration", probably the first one at the top. Click on that to open the System Configuration dialog.
Click on the TAB "Startup" and you will see all your startup programs. You can select or deselect whatever you want, but be careful as some may halt your system on start up if they don't start. Only you know what you have loaded on your system and what was selected as auto start.
As far as OverClocking Centre; my advice, forget it, delete it, remove it. Use your BIOS, as Windows based utilities to achieve this without inherent problems, still have to be developed.    Sorry if that disappoints you, but thats my honest opinion.

  • MSI 870A-G54 Blue Screen & Corruption Issues in Windows 7 64-bit

I am having periodic blue screen and corruption issues in Winodws 7 64-bit with my MSI 870A-G54 system.  I have a Phenom II X2 560 BE processor, 2 4GB DDR 1333 DIMMs (first bank - unganged), 2 2GB DDR3 1333 DIMMs (2nd bank - unganged), 2 Hitachi 1TB 32MB Cache HDD's in a RAID 0 array, two Galaxy PCIe2.0 GT9500's, 550w power supply, internal DVD drive, and 1 1TB Seagate external 3.0 USB drive.  After I load all the supplementary drivers from the MSI site (ensuring I use the 64bit versions), my system becomes unstable.  I even tried the new motherboard chipset drivers from AMD (10.12).  I am running the latest firmware as well (17.7).  The system in not overclocked in any manner and I experience the same results with fail-safe and optimized settings.
I have tried isolating the issue after loading each driver, but due to the random nature of the issue, I am not having success.  I have also performed memory and CPU tests that report no errors.  Any ideas?
    Thanks for your help...

  • Does 870a-G54 NON FX Motherboard now support Vishera CPU's after bios flash?

I have the non fx version of the 870a-g54, I have the latest bios flashed on my motherboard right now and in the description of the bios update it reads "- Update AGESA code for Vishera CPU"
So is this support for FX cpus now ?
Is the 870a-g54 FX board the same as the mainboard non fx with just support for FX out of the box?
I'm confused, I would really love to upgrade my CPU, I know my motherboard has weak power phasing so I won't be overclocking at all if I did upgrade.
    THoughts?

OK, here's a list from MSI I found that support Vishera, if anyone can prove otherwise then go by this list. There is no sense going back and forth without definite proof, as far as I'm concerned the proof is this list.

Right there -> 890FXA-GD65 ,white socket , has FX support. So white or black it simply has to be tested and stated to work.
It was stated to work with FX 5 months before the CPU release. And this is just one example
Anyway i would say FX  CPU-s SHOULD be used with boards released last year ,just to be safe it doesn t blows up when the CPU reaches some Turbo State.
FX series needs proper VRM stages.

  • 870A-G54 Problems

Ok so i mounted the board, connected everything started running from the cd etc.. the cd drive and winki operating screen worked just fine for a while.
I went out and purchased a new hard drive and windows 7 because i couldn't validate my old version of xp. so the time comes to install windows, i boot up the system, open the cd drive and then i have second thoughts about which disc i needed to use 32b or 64b, so i go look it up for a few minutes on a laptop in another room. Finally when i come back the disc drive has closed itself and wont open again, the screen said to insert disc and then restart to load from cd drive. i power off, turn it back on and my disc drive wont power on and i cant get any visuals.
I dont think it can be my drive or my psu because when i disconnect my cd drive from the MB it turns on just fine, but when i connect them it just shuts down.
Any help you can give would be MUCH appreciated!
IF its any help i have a corsair psu and a phenom processor

  • NF980-G65-THE TEMP PF CHIPSET IS VERY HIGH?OVERCLOCK CENTER?HYBRID POWER?

    HELLO TO EVERYONE
I HAVE RECENTLY HAVE BUILD A SLI-GEFORCE-NF980 BASED SYSTEM. MY BOARD CAME NEAR HALF THE WORLD . I LIVE IN IRAN AND I PURCHASE IT FROM AMERICA .IT WORKED VERY WELL IN FIRST RUN .AND SLI WORKED BY A CLICK (I STRONGLY RECOMEND USE SLI WITH NVIDIA CHIPSET BASED MOBOS).ALSO THERE ARE SOME ISSUE . A SATA CABLE DIDN,T WORKED AND WITH A CABLE CHANGE EVERY THING WAS OK. IN THE OTHER HAND THE SYSTEM IS NOT QUITE AS I THOUGHT.( ATHLON II 635-2.9 GH-2 9800GT ONE OF THEM IS PASSIVE COOLED( GIGABYTE) OTHER HAS A SMALL FAN( ZOTAC SYNERGY)
    NOW I HAVE SOME QUASTION:
1-THE TEMP OF CHIPSET IS VERY HIGHT( ABOUT 100 C) OTHER COMPONENTS ARE GOOD.WHAT IS PROBLEM?I HAVE SEEN SOMEBODY HAVE THIS PROBLEM.IS IT BECAUSE HEATSINK PROBLEM OR BIOS AND SENSOR PROBLEM ?IF IT IS NATURAL SO I TRY USE IT AS A WATER BOILER!!
2-THE CPU FAN SPEED ISNT STABLE.IT IS LOW AND SUDDENLY GOES UP AND THEN COME DOWN. WHAT IS PROBLEM?IS IT AMD CPU CONTROL ALGHORITM?
3-I SEARCHED MANYTIMES AND AT THE END I DIDNT FOUND A STRAIGHT TALK ABOUT HYBRID SLI AND HYBRID POWER. I HAD TWO CHOISE MSI-NF980 AND ASUS-M4N98 EVO . I DIDNT HAVE A CHANSE OF MISTAKE.AND FINALLY I CHOOSED MSI BOARD BECAUSE OF LAYOUT AND STRONG LOOKING FEATURES .BUT BOTH OF THEM HAVNT CORRECT INFORMATION ABOUT USING HYBRID SLI AND A BIG DIFFERENCE: ASUS HASNT ONBOARD VGA . ACCORDING TO NVIDIA WEBSITE THE GPU'S LIKE 9800GT AND GTS 260 ONLY CAN USE HYBRID POWER NOT GEFORCE BOOST.HYBRID SLI ONLY WORK WIH ONBOARD VGA OUTPUT.IT MEANS ASUS BOARD CANT USE HYBRID POWER .NOW I TEST TEMP AND SOUND AND STABALITY OF SYSTEM IN WIN XP AND  I DONT HAVE WIN7 YET SO I CANT TEST HYBRID SLI( THIS IS WORK ONLY IN WIN VISTA AND WIN 7) . IS THERE ANY ONE ADVISE ME ABOUT  A HYBRID SLI SETTING IN WIN 7?
4-I THINK OVERCLOCKING CENTER IS NOT POWERFULL THAT MUST BE. FOR EXAMPLE IT HASNT SETTING FOR THE WAY TO WARNING(MESSAGE ,AUDIO,..). IT CAN ONLY CONTROL 2 FAN THAT PLUGED TO MOBO ALSO THE MOBO HAS 3 FAN PORT.THE ONLINE HELP OF THAT IS MISSING.IT DOESNT ACT ACCORDING TO SETTING AND FOR EXAMPLE SCREAMS FOR A GOOD TEMP.I USED SPEEDFAN AND IT WAS VERY POWEFULL . IT COULD SHUTDOWN FANS COMPLETELY THAT OVERCLOCKING CENTER COULDN'T DO THAT.
I HOPE OTHER REVISIONS ARE MORE POWERFULL.
5- I WANT USE A HEAVY AFTERMARKET AIR COOLER( WITH  WEIGHT ABOUT 800 gr) . IS THE MECHANICAL PROPERTIES ALLOW TO DO THAT WITHOUT ANY DAMAGE?
    THANKS FOR ANSWER

Give the guy a break. I read the damn thing and it wasn't that bad. He probably had to run it trough a translator program.
100c is a false reading according to a Sr. mod for this board. Ignore that temp sensor.
    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=133425.0
Turn off AMD cool n quiet if its bothering you, Get a monitored CPU fan and use the target temp feature that throttles your CPU fan when it is not under load. My system is silent at idle / web surfing and loud as an airplane when I am gaming. Not a bad trade off because I am overclocked quite a bit. I set the temp target to the lowest and then set the fan throttle to 50%. If your CPU fan is still variable when Idle check your CPU fan install, you may need that heavy cooler. I think that you will get a new metal cooler bracket with the new cooler, mine came with one. The board is very strong and should be able to handle the 400gr.
Hybrid SLI is a waste for you if you have a 9800GT.  The Hybrid SLI will drop your performance DOWN to the 8300 on board video. Additionally the Hybrid power is overrated IMO. I totally disabled my onboard video and have 2 9800gtx's running in SLI.  Win7/Vista gives you the benefit of using two monitors and using SLI at the same time as well as directX11. Other than that your not missing anything. Hybrid SLI is really meant for people that can only afford another 8300 GPU.
The power of the 9800GT is so much better it makes using the 8300 onboard useless as a physicsX proc also. Take my advise and forget about the onboard GPU unless you destroy your 9800s.
I agree, the MSI and the NVIDIA OC tools SUCK for this board. I blame NVIDIA however, its their chipset. The best thing to do is to just use the BIOS. Speedfan is a good tool for fan manipulation, but I have yet to find a good OC tool for windows. The BIOS profile storage is a good tool. Save your basic settings and then tweak and save those profiles, its a great help. I wouldn't expect a windows based OC tool to be released either. This board is kind of a white rhino.  Like you said Asus has 1 MSI has 1.  I do think it is a great MB though!
    Good Luck!

  • 870A-G54 problems with bios, ram and CnQ

Hello i have some weird problems with my mobo.  CnQ dont work i dont know why , in bios all options are turned not automaticly but forced to be "enable" ,and still my procesor multipler and voltages don't change , at the beginning after installing win7 64x it worked but now no :/.
2.next i have problems with memory i have corsair xms3 2x2gb [email protected]  at old bios(AH0) my memory just did'nt want to work on 1.6k in dual channel and 1,2 slot i tried even to use default voltages tested by corsair (1.65V i had to use 1.66) result it dont work. after putting them into 3,4 slot it works even on 1.5V not 1.65V then i used to have them on 3,4 slot      do u think that 1,2 slot is damaged ?.
3.Problems by bios. I updated my bios to the lastest version (from software downloaded from msi.com  probably it had name "live update 5") , of course updated by usb stick .Then after update i see that my ram looks like reserved bios showing me that i have 2gigs of ram -.- (but only on 3,4 slot x.x) after change slots (1,2) it working and see my full ram (4gigs). Is that HD0 beta version of bios ? it looks like that .I don't see my logo screen it looks like that option was cut off from the bios , i don't see any "corporation" logo while booting the system.
I though that msi making solid motherboards as u can see i have many problems with this mobo.

  • 870A-G54 V3.1 instant FF on POST, all board LEDs and fans on.

Trying to get  a 870A-G54 V3.1 working. I get instant FF on a PCI POST card, all the blue LEDs and fans are on, so is the red LED on the overclock button. I have 16 gig of new Patriot DDR3 plugged in and an AMD Phenom 2 X2 555 CPU I know is good because I pulled it off an AM2+ box it's been running in for a while.
The board is a used freebie, condition unknown due to the giver not having an AM3 CPU to test it.
I have no other AM3 CPU or any other DDR3 RAM to try. Is there any way to make it load the latest BIOS off a USB stick? Or am I going to have to dig up some old single core Sempron just to flash the latest BIOS? I've run into this problem many times over the years, pretty much since the first PC boards with flash BIOS.
Or could it be that a 330W supply just isn't enough, even with a piddly little low profile nVidia GT520?
Would be nice to know if the board's just defekt or if it's something fixable. In some searching on this, I've found this same instant FF issue with this exact model MSI board quite a lot.
Right now this board is shoved to the back burner, I ordered a surplus/new OEM board from a different manufacturer, and will also get a nice 80% efficient 500W supply. I've a system to get built and fiddling with a problem board isn't getting it done.

1: what is the boards serial number (leave off the last 3 digits)? (should be on the rear of the board so I can give you an idea of what BIOS version it has)
Only number is by the CPU socket, B316023***
    Quote
2: what 330W PSU? (if its a split +12v Rail unit then that could very well be the problem as it will be anaemic to say the least and barely passable)
    Ultra ULT-350P label says (+5V 25A +3.3V 18A 150W), (+12V 18A 216W), (-5V 0.6A 7.2W), (-12V 0.6A 7.2W), (+5VSB 2A 10W)

3: also was the 8pin EPS CPU power Header plugged in?
4 pin plus the other 4 pins connected to two separate drive power wire bundles with a dual molex adapter.

4: what sticks are those DDR3 units eg: 4x4GB??? and what speed are they rated at?
Patriot PS000562 4GB PC3-10600 1333Mhz. Hmmm, the label lies! Fine print says (2X2GB)Kit. 8 gig will be enough. Got them in an online auction lot from a computer tech school that closed. They're from 2 different batches, T-0009264 and T-0009267. Solder mask is a slightly different shade of green and the PCB material is different color too. Trace layout and chips are the same.
I have an Antec "earthpower" 500W supply ordered. It has an 8 pin connector.

  • 870A-G54 RAM R/W test failed

    Hello
I build a new system for a friend. I tested it for 2 days non-stop, she had the new computer for a week when this error started to appear. Sometimes (not everytime), when you power up the computer the memory count stops at 4096, beeps twice with error RAM R/W test failed. Also it only detects half the RAM installed (4GB) If you press F1 to continue, it boots to windows OK, but sees just half memory. So far I tried reseating all memory modules and swapping first 2 with the last 2. Also tried to disable DCT Unganged Mode. All settings under Cell menu are default, there is no overclocking. Could it be a faulty RAM module? Motherboard problem? Anybody has any ideas?

I've just got an 870A-G54 ( http://eu.msi.com/index.php?func=proddesc&maincat_no=1&prod_no=2057 ) and have a Athlon II x3 450 in there. I've tried to get Cool'n Quiet working but it's simply not throttling the CPU. Both AMD Overdrive and windows system-panel show the speed to be 3.2Ghz on all three cores despite the PC idling.
    - The power-management is set to minimal.
    - Cool'n Quiet is "enabled" in the Bios - also tried "auto" to no avail.
    - I've installed the drivers from the website. Whenever I try to install them again I get a message saying they're "already installed". I can't seem to find a way to uninstall them (nothing in add/remove panel). I've even uninstalled all my other AMD processor drivers/utilities (i.e. Overdrive), but it /still/ says I have the drivers installed.
Using Windows XP SP3 32 bit.
Note: I have not, overclocked, nor do I intend to.
Any suggestions on how to remove the driver and re-install it? Or, what else may be wrong?
    Thanks.

Ok, fresh install of XP SP3 on a separate partition. Absolutely nothing changed from the base install (apart from the mouse-buttons swapped). I try and install the Cooln'Quiet drivers from the MSI website (bottom of - http://eu.msi.com/index.php?func=downloaddetail&type=driver&maincat_no=1&prod_no=2057 ).
When I try and install it, it gives an error saying:
"The machine does not have a supported AMD Athlon 64 Processor".
This happened with this partition of XP too, but I couldn't replicate it so thought maybe it was my memory or I was going crazy. CPU is still reporting 3.2Ghz.
The download page states: "• AMD Athlon™ 64/Sempron™/Turion™ 64/Opteron™ systems". My processor is an "Athlon II". Looking at the date and the version number, the drivers are very out-dated. The other version I aquired from who-knows-where is XP 1.3.2 for XP and almost a year later. The MSI page has 1.2.2.0. The Athlon II's date from 2009 onwards according to wikipedia.
So where do I get current Cooln'Quiet drivers?
Also, as mentioned I've tried both "Optimized" defaults and "fail-safe" defaults in the BIOS with CoolnQuiet enabled. No change.

  • MSI 870a-G54 Hard drive problem.

About a week ago i reinstalled Windows because it started to slow down (virusses and what not) And as soon as i reinstalled everything (programs games etc etc) One of my harddrives used for games did not show up at the bios and at My computer.
So this entire week i've been trying to get it to work again and i've narrowed down the problem today to the BIOS and/or motherboard not giving the power to the HDD in order for it to start and be recognized in BIOS and Windows.
What ive done to come to this conclusion:
    - Reinstalled Windows twice,
    - Replaced CMOS Battery,
    - Flashed the BIOS to every BIOS setting the MSI website had to offer. None worked for the HDD to get powered up again.
    - Moved CMOS jumper,
    - Changed SATA and powercables on harddrive,
    - Tried the HDD on another test PC i had and reformatted it there as well,
    - Only hooked up the not working HDD to the PC, (HDD did not spin up, and came to the conclusion at this point that motherboard or BIOS is the culprit)
    - Unplugged the powercable to the not working HDD and plugged it back in when the PC was running and i could feel it spinning up, after this i restarted the PC so that the HDD would still get power and it was recognized by the BIOS and Windows and i could use it. As soon as i shut down the PC entirely and restarted it the HDD would not spin up. And i had to unplug power to the HDD and plug it in again and restart PC for it to work properly.
    - Checked for bad sectors nothing found,
Everything else is working perfectly. Except that one HDD not getting the power when booting up the PC.
The HDD in question is the "Samsung HD502HJ 500gig" used for Steam games.
    PC Specs:
CPU: AMD Phenom II x4 955 Black edition. Put on a new CPU cooler last summer (Cooler master Hyper 212 Plus)
    Mobo: MSI 870a-G54
PSU: Antec EarthWatts EA650 (650 Watts)
Graphics card: Powercolor PCS+ HD5870 Put on a custom cooler last summer (Arctic Cooling Accelero Xtreme 5870)
    RAM: Kingston ValueRam 1333Mhz DDR3 (8gigs 4x 2gig) Bought 4 gigs extra last summer
HDD1: Seagate ST3160812 AS 160gig used for Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit (Works perfectly)
HDD2: Samsung HD204UI 2TB used for Storage / Other games than i have on Steam. (works perfectly) Bought last summer with the cooling/system upgrade
HDD3: Samsung HD502HJ 500gig used for Steam games. (Does not work anymore after reinstal) Bought 2 years ago along with the rest of the PC
I am completely at a loss here as to what the problem is. I do not have the funds to buy a new piece of hardware at this time (i think the entire week of struggle would back that up for me lol...). And ive basically tried everything what i know and what i've found through Google and friends. Might have been better going straight to MSI forum and post my problem here but narrowing it down to this not only helps me but the person that is going to post below in this thread as well lol.
Thanks in advance and i hope to hear from anyone soon.

Try drive in different PC, as it looks like it died.
HDD's always spinup as soon as power is applied, ergo I think the drive died.
Ive tried it already in 2 different PC's and i have to apologize here for not mentioning that earlier in the topic.
The drive spins up perfectly in both of those PC's and ive checked for bad sectors on both of those PC's as well and it showed that the drive was 100% healthy on both PC's
The drive was working perfectly fine before the reinstallation of windows. Thats why i dont think the drive has died. Because it would be weird that the drive just suddenly gave up right when im reinstalling windows..
It also doesnt add up when i plug the powercable back into the drive while the PC is running and it spins up then and works perfectly until PC is shut down. Thats why i had it narrowed down to the BIOS and/or Motherboard being the culprit.
My best guess is that its software related because the PC does boot up so its not a hardware problem.
    P.S.
A friend of mine said that it could be a powersaving issue. But ive looked into the BIOS and i could not find anything about it.

  • After updating to iOS 8 notification and control center won't open when unlocked

Ever since I updated my iPhone 5s to iOS 8, the notification and control center will not open while my phone is unlocked. I checked to see if I had it disabled in settings and it turns out I did not. I switched the Access Within Apps as well as the Access While Locked on and off anyway but still nothing. I can only pull the notification and control center open while my phone is locked... it is extremely annoying. I know I'm not the only one though because my friend who updated to iOS 8 on his 5c was having the exact same problems. Some help would be much appreciated. Thank you!

So yesterday vibration suddenly started working again, after nearly two weeks with the problem above. I have no idea why, I didn't change any settings and the only app that was updated yesterday was Facebook messenger...

  • 870A-G54 vs. 870A-G54 FX

    Hi,
I was wondering if an 870AG54 will support new bulldozers, and now I find that MSI is making such the same mainboard with the same bios, just with black cpu socket, calling it FX, that support new am3+ sockets, and asking 20-30EUR more for such thing..
Any chance to get AM3+ support for "usual" 870A-G54????

    great news!!
checked stores again, FX version cost approx the same as non-FX version, so hopefully its not just some marketing move, and MSI will support older MoBos with AM3+ bios's - we are waiting for am3+ support to curent AM3 boards MSI!!
at last, bulldozer(FX) CPUs from first reviews is flop so no bother at all att..
