Overclocking complications on KT4V running Athlon xp 2400+ HELP!

Hey, I have a KT4V running a AMD Athlon XP 2400+ but it was only running at 1.5 gHz instead of 2.0 gHz which is what it was supposed to be running at... so, like an idiot, I went into my BIOS and set the clock speed at 133 MHz x 15 instead of 100 MHz x 15. I saved my settings and restarted my system and AWW CRAP...the display won't work (and probably other things). The monitor doesn't even acknowledge that it's plugged in. All my system fans are running, but really nothing else. What do I do!?
Guh....
Muzz

Alright, got it going again. Thanks a TON to both of you

  • KT4V and AMD Athlon Xp 2400+

Ive got a KT4V motherboard with a Geforce MX 440 Graphics card, 512DDR PC2100 Ram and an AMD Athlon Xp 2400+ Cpu. I was wondering wether anyone could tell me anything i could do to make my system run that bit faster without overclocking.
Im gonna get a new case soon with a better power supply and cooling so im glad to hear any suggestion for overclockin as well. Its not gonna be watercooled or anything like that so i cant go extreme with the fsb and stuff.

problem is your ram, your best o/c is lower multiplier, read the wire trick thread as you need that and then run it at 166 fsb or a bit more
but chances are at 166 your rams not going to boot being only pc 2100
so leave it be as far as multiplier and raise fsb a bit at a time
due to the multiplier bit your chipset uses at around mid 140 fsb it will not boot as agp and pci will be out of specs to much

  • Overclocking Athlon XP 2400+ on Msi KT7 Turbo 2

i have a kt7 turbo 2 mobo with athlon xp 2400+, would like to overclock this. My mate has the Combo-L and all you have to do is change the clock speed. I cannot find a way of overclocking my CPU on my turbo2 board can any1 plz help?
    Cheers Guys

your mobo has a kt133a chipset and as far as i know, the highest fsb it reached with a pc133 ram is only 147. and the maximum multiplier with that mobo is only x15. you could try x9 multiplier. 9x=17x it boots without an unlocked processor..

  • K7T Turbo2 and Athlon XP 2400+

    Hello everyone !
I have a question about K7T Turbo2 motherboard and BIOS update.
Here it goes:  I reacently bought Athlon XP 2400+ and installed it on my mobo.
But after reboot my PCU wasn't recognised and I read on MSI website that I had to
upgrade my BIOS from 3.5 to 3.6 ( I think, don't remmeber the version ) . So I did that too
and this time bios showed my CPU as XP 1800+. I said there is something wrong with CPU or
they gave me a wrong one, but NO. After reading the manual I realised that that XP 2400 uses
266 insted of 100 ( standard that came with mobo )and that I had to remove J17 jumper to make it
work and also had to change options in BIOS --> like FBS 133 and multiplier 15  to get XP2400.
Reason that I'm expling what I did is to let you know what stuff I did before I came to this forum to
ask a Q. Anyway after all of that fuss PC works and shutdowns OK. But ( yeah there is a but ) now insted
of starting at once I need to press power button one time -> and you can here power starting and lights
showing but system not starting. Then I push and hold button for a few sec to shut it down. After
second push of power button system starts as normal. It looks like it need a bit of warm up ( like my car in winter time ) before it actuali start. Is this a BIOS error becouse it can't start the system with ONE
push of the button? Never had tha problem with Duron CPU and old BIOS. Need some help ..
    Thanks

    Hi!
I think I solved your problem! It seems that I had exactly the same problem and the same settings you have. Then, I read this Trouble Shooting Guide at:
    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?threadid=1131&sid=
    which says:
"As for mulipliers with AMD CPU's, just set them Automatic, as they are hardcoded on the CPU themselves and will allway's be correctly, even if if you think the BIOS doesn't know it."
So I changed the multiplier from BIOS from 15 to Default, and now it starts up great even at the first time! Even my CPU benchmark score with PCMark2002 free went up from 5195 to 6344 so now it actually works much better than with the multiplier 15!!
Try this before buying a new PSU and tell if it helps...

    THANX to member ZachM.
Hey, one more problem. I thought the wiring trick was to connect two pins under the CPU but the pic in the link made me more confused. The thing i have to do is to put the wire into the socket or to connct the two pins of the CPU? Can you give more info about this?

  • KT4 Ultra and Athlon XP 2400+

Although I made every possible previous check, any attempt I make to set up FSB to 133MHz, ends up with a crash and I need to reset the BIOS to restart (stable at 100MHz!, crash at 112 MHz, through Fuzzy logic).
    My configuration(newly purchased):
    MSI KT4 Ulra (Amibios)
    Athlon XP 2400+,
    RAM: 512kB 333MHz (PC 2700)
    Is there anything I missed?
    Some help?

Thanks. This is of course what I did at first (and then several attempts): setting 133MHz FSB in the BIOS and as I said the result is "black screen" and need for BIOS reset to restart! I am afraid I cannot find any hint in the trouble guide....!

  • Athlon XP 2400 shows as Duron 1400 on KT4 Ultra? - Help!!

Today (16th) I noticed the PC acting a little sluggish so I decided to check the system properties to see that my processor shows as a 1400 Duron when infact its an XP 2400. Since I only noticed it being slow today - i'm guessing something must have happened.
About 7/8 MS critical updates came today - so I installed them as I always do and I assumed since they are the only things I installed - one of the updates may have caused the issue so I removed them all. . still nothing. I then did a system restore to 2 days earlier on my system (Win XP Pro) and still it shows as a Duron 1400 both in Windows and the BIOS.
I havent changed anything in the BIOS for the last 6 months - I havent updated it either.
I have used several CPU identifying utilities - both AMD and independent - non of them see it as an Athlon XP 2400. I am the only person who uses this PC so nobody could have even swapped the processor or anything as I am pretty much around the PC the whole time (incase u were thinking that!!)
Does anyone know why my Athlon XP 2400 processor is showing up as a Duron 1400 all of a sudden when I havent made any major system changes? Is there an update/fix/patch I need to get to sort this out? Is it a common problem?
    System Spec:
    Athlon XP 2400
    Motherboard - MSi 6590 (KT4 Ultra)
    BIOS - AMI v 07.00T
    Memory - DDR 512MB x2
    Thanks for any help!

thanks for your help guys! I opened it up and saw some dust on the CPU block and fan - but nothing more than I have seen before - but I gave it a good clean anyhows... I also decided to replace the CMOS battery because even though it was showing a voltage in the BIOS, given that its the battery that came with the M/B when I first bought it 4 years ago - I thought it was time to change it.
After the clean and the battery replacement - the system was back showing "Athlon XP 2400" in both the BIOS and system settings so I'm guessing it was down to the CMOS battery. So thanks for the help! I'm glad to have it sorted now! I have however discovered the Northbridge fan is dead so I'm gonna still have to open it up in the next few days to replace that! If only that were as easy to find as a new battery was lol ...
    thanks for your time!

  • Athlon XP 2400+ with XP 1800+ frequency! (KT4 Ultra, Athlon XP 2400+)

I just bought a MSI KT4 Ultra (MS-6590) +  an Athlon XP 2400+, but the mainboard detects only a XP 1800+ and the frequency is also as slow as the 1800+! i tired to overklock the CPU with FuzzyLogic 4 but it crashed! HEEEEEEEEEEELP!

Have you set the FSB frequency to 133 (MHz) in BIOS? Default value is often 100.  )

Are you selecting the music to sync to the iPad? Try it this way.
Connect the iPad to the computer and launch iTunes.
Click on the iPad name on the left side under devices.
Click on the Music Tab on the right.
Click on all of the albums or playlists that you want to sync - or the entire library if you like.
Click on the Sync Music Heading.
Click on Apply in the lower right corner of iTunes
Do you have your sync preferences set to Manually Manage Music And Videos in the Summary Tab of iTunes? If you do, deselect that and try again.

  • I'm suddenly seeing 2-point black boxes around any desktop icon I highlight, and around various elements in any window I'm working in. I have a G5 PPC iMac running 10.4.11.  Neither restarting the machine nor running Mac Warrior has helped.

Thanks! I often inadvertently turn on the voiceover when I use the wrong keys to send an element to the back in Quark. Funny, I turned off the voiceover on my own, but never noticed that the black boxes had gone away until I saw your post.

Device Manager which is in Control Panels
I strongly recommend AIDA64 to show everything, temps, fans, chips, drivers and versions
http://www.aida64.com/ Windows has better tools to show you every service and knick and cranny

  • Overclocking K7T266A Pro 2 and Athlon

Please advise me for the best Voltage value when overclocking my Athlon 1700+  CPU. With default value I reach safe and stable to 138Mhz CPU FSB.
I'm interested what are your voltage values and other settings on that board that I can play it safe on my system which is very stable at the moment for more than four months.
    My other BIOS settings:
Configure SDRAM Timing by : USER
    SDRAM Frequency : HCLK
    SDRAM CAS# Latency : 2
    Row Precharge Time: 2T
    RAS Pulse Width: 5T
    RAS to CAS Delay: 2T
    SDRAM Bank InterLeave: 4
    SDRAM Burst Length: 8QW
    SDRAM 1T command: Enabled
    Fast Command : Enabled
    Ciao, Davor.

If your not getting anywhere with the 3.6 bios downgrade to the 3.3 or 3.2 bios. Some people have found that Bioses above 3.3 don't overclocking that well. For example on my Pro 2 board I can't overclock at all past the 3.3 bios. Also in testing of 3dmark, Sandra etc I found that all bioses past 3.2 slow down compared to the older bioses. So you might get a decent peformance boost just from using an old bios. I know it doesn't make sense, but that's what I and a few others, Mr Steveo notable, have found.
As far as voltage goes, as a  rule of thumb never go 10% of stock and make sure your using a high quality HSF. Something like the AX-7 of Alpha 8045 would be ideal.
For settings try burst length 4qw instead of 8, and try disabling the 1t and Fast command. Then run Sandra and 3dmark and see what the results are. For some people, myself included, benchmarks went up when disabling these features even though technically on other boards these usually speed things up. I'm not saying this will happen for you, but its at least worth trying.
There is also a bios settings guid at http://www.amdmb.com you might want to check out.
