Overclocking Z77A-G43 with i5 3570k, stuck @ 38x
Hi guys,
First, my configuration:
Intel Core i5 3570K - Unlocked version
MSI Z77A-G43 (BIOS v. 2D)
GSKILL DDR3 1600 Mhz
Windows 8.1
Since 2 days, I flashed my bios and now I have a unsolved problem.
Before it, my O/C was at 4,3 Ghz (100 x 43). Thus, MSI Live Update showed me a update (v. 2D) for my BIOS (MSI Z77A-G43 aka 7758) and I flashed it.
After the first boot, Windows crashed with a BSoD and I went to BIOS. But now, I can't adjust CPU ratio as well, only 38x maximum whereas before 16 to 61. So I look up into this forum and can't find solutions. I have made energy savings changes, Clear CMOS and more, but nothing working.
I note that "Core Ratio Limit" option disappear of my BIOS ...
I downgrade to my former version v. 2.6 and more (2.7, 2.8, 2.A ...) and hope that everything was back to order but ... No.
I don't know what to do, if someone has a idea ... Thank you in advance for your answers
After 2 or 3 BIOS flashing, downloading of 2D version and installing Intel ME Driver 2 times (Both MSI's and Intel's Servers), I hope it will be a success and it's nice !
Honestly, thank for you answer, you make me feel happy not to blast my mainboard because of a bad upgrade ^^.
Thank so much for your help. Sea Dog

Black screen at boot MSI Z77A-G43 with HD7850
Hi,
I've tried everything You suggested in this topic. I've upgrade and downgrade bios (official 2.3, 2.4, 2.8, 2,9 / beta 256, 281,296) few times but still is black screen at boot. Now i'm on the newest beta bios 296 and still same issue on Sapphire HD 7850 with my Z77a-G43 board. I know for sure that sapphire working well because I've checked on other mobo with even worst PSU (400W instead 550W Volcano). Before hd 7850 I had gtx460 and swith those few times and always gtx460 works fine, so I don't understand anything right now.
Tried different slots, also clear cmos.
Board: MSI Z77A-G43
Bios: Version 296
VGA: Sapphire HD7850 1GB
PSU: Modecom Volcano 550W
Intel Core i5-3570k
MEM: Kingston 4GB 1600MHz
HDD: 2xSSD
Without OC
OS: Windows 7 64bit Professional
Can You help me somehow, maybe I did not check something else?Quote from: The CPU Whisperer on 22-April-13, 16:06:05
Do you see the same problem on bios 2.90?
The Z77A-G43 seems the have difficulties accepting HD7xxx AMD VGA cards lately.
It seems that the problem is gone. I thought of it being an ATI driver issue ~ but not even the latest didn't fix it. But since I flashed to BIOS 2.9 I haven't encountered the problem anymore. So I believe something is fixed between 2.3 to 2.9.
However my problem was a bit different that the OP has.
Oh, and I said this on other thread so I say it here too: MSI and Asus 7xxx cards haven't faced the kind of issues Sapphires are having. I'm so glad to my choice... as I almost picked Sapphire but then read comments on Newegg which weren't in favor for Sapphire. -
Z77a-G43 with I7 2600K no Video
I have been pulling my hair out, I recently purchased a new Z77a-g43 mother board and an I7 2600K processor. Everything posts fine and I installed win7 64bit and installed the drivers, but when it reboots it starts loading windows and then just shuts down. I have narrowed it down to the on board video driver. If I uinstall it then the system works fine. When I try to re-install the video driver and reboot then it then shutts off while booting. So if I press the F8 key and boot back in to the last known good time it boots up with the standard vga driver. For specifics, I am running 16gig of DDR3 Patriot Sector 5, with the mb and processor and 2 2TB Hitachi drives.
The bios on the board was 2.2e which is not even list on the website yet. Hopefully this is just a bios issue and will be fixxed in the future.Looking at it with live update it show 2.22 as the current version on the board installed right now. I can't check remotely what is reported in the bios, but on the board I returned, it reported it has 2.22e . The one available online was reported as 2.22 . I backed up the 2.22e then reverted or assumed it was reverting to the 2.22 without any change. I returned the board thinking it was bad, only to have the new board do the same thing. On the new board, I did not check the bios version from the bios as I did with the other. MSI Liveupdate is reporting 2.22 current.
I do have the 2.22e backed up though. Maybe this was a beta released fw. -
Hi, just wanted to check with you guys regarding my settings and values.
I'm running the 10.8 Bios and running Mushkin Redline XMP1866 1.50V 2x4GB, Noctua DH14 air cooler, Creative Xfi Titanium, Seasonic SS-620GM (Bronze) in a CM Stacker 2 case.
On VCore Auto and 45x turbo multiplier (core ratio limits are default 38/38/37/36), my idle VCore is 0.960V and on load it's 1.300V (1.28 on CPUZ).
While playing with the droop from 100, 87.5, 75, and 50, the voltage is still the same.
I'm in the tropics with high humidity and ambient temp of 28C(it's 34C outside -_-) so with both stock and OC settings idle temps are 44C and during prime95 small FFTs it goes to 93C.
I was running a P8Z77 V-Pro before but it was faulty. On that MB this chip on offset vcore used to run 45x at 1.25V, and at 44x it could run 1.15V (temps were sub 90).
Do I have no choice but to go for a fixed VCore?Aside from the Noctua cooler, I have 2x120mm exhaust fans at the back (1 is positioned at the Noctua cooler so it's like a 3 fan 2 radiator sammich), 80mm exh on top, 80mm in on side, and 2x120mm intake at front (2xCM HDD bays). The psu is located on the bottom of the tower drawing in from below and venting out back.
PS: I loaded default values and reflashed the bios and now the VDroop control is working.
EIST/C1E enabled, Long/Short/Turbo limits/durations increased. SA is 0.97, pll at 1.81
Now at 45x with 87.5% droop, VCore at 1.29 on load
While running IBT on High, temps are 90 97 97 93 across cores (0-3). 1 and 2 peak at 100.
With 75% droop temps are lower by 3 degrees but I get WHEA errors. -
Z77A-G43 Memory Timings Messed Up
I'm having trouble with the memory on my computer, and eventually after some searching, I found out that the timings are off (11-11-11-28 instead of 9-9-9-24). I don't know how to change the timings, and I've looked around on the internet for a while and I haven't found anything on manually setting the timings. The XMP is set to 9-9-9-24, but when I enable it and reboot, nothing has changed, and it still fails MemTest86. If someone could tell me how to change them, that would be great. Thanks.
Edit: Sorry, I completely forgot, here are the specs:
Intel i5 3570k @ 3.4 Ghz (no overclock)
Z77A-G43 BIOS v2.4
G Skill Ripjaws X DDR3 1600 Mhz, 8 GB, 2 sticks
Powercolor Radeon HD 7850, 2 GB
OCZ Agility 3, 120 GB, SSD
Windows 7 Home Premium
OCZ ModXStream Pro 700W, 25ATry with just 1 stick of ram then the other, see if one stick is defective.
If you are able to enter bios, load optimzed defaults first.

and I'm sure there are more than 4 that are compatible?
There are, I usually just stick with Corsair or Mushkin because they have always worked for me. -
Z77A-G43, What does Intel ME do?
Hi, I've just built a pc with the Z77A-G43 board, I5-3570K CPU and Windows 8. I'm wondering what does Intel ME do? I've googled it and it looks to be for remote management of the PC. I don't need that so do I still need to update the ME part of the bios and install the driver in Windows 8? There is a stickie in this forum saying it is important to do so. Just wondering why its so important and what ME actually do.
Thanks.Quote
In the end, I've uninstalled the drivers from windows and disabled the hardware device in the device manager.
Do what you want, but that makes no sense to disable or remove an integral part of the chipset's ability to do it's work. There are two parts, the firmware imbedded in the chipset, & the driver for the OS. Why hamstring the system even though you don't see any obvious benefit of it? There are no UEFI/BIOS settings or settings in Windows related to it you can mess with. One function is to properly coordinate RAM initiation during the POST sequence. Has something also to do with temp monitoring last I remember reading. For whatever reason, the easily available information on all that it does has appararently been made systematically difficult to find.
Not all the functions of a systems components are visible and known to us. When the P67's came out, ME was a hot topic, as some boards didn't have the firmware installed, and it caused all kinds of problems.
Current IME mystery functions makes good fodder for the conspiracy theory crowd. -
Z77A-G43 No onboard VGA,HDMI and DVI, No audio
I have a Z77A-G43 with a i5-3350P processor. I connected my monitor (Iiyama) on the on-board VGA port. After installation i started up the computer. I could see the the computer was starting up on the keyboard but i did not see anything on the monitor. My monitor has two inputs, VGA and HDMI, so i tried the on-board HDMI-port. Again no picture.
Then i put in a videocard in the PCIe slot and connected the monitor on the VGA output of the videocard.
I started up the computer and now i could see the start-up on the monitor, so the monitor and VGA cable are oke.
After installation of the software i saw that there where no speakers attached. Tested the speakers on a other the computer and the are oke. So i have allso a problem with the on-board speakeroutput.
It is a new motherboard and i went back the the shop and got another motherboard, installed it and started up the computer. I got the same problems with this new motherboard as with the one i had before.
I checked all the connections seferal times and did not find anything wrong.
With a videocard i could see in the BIOS. All the connected hardware was recognized.
What could be the problem with the on-board VGA, HDMI and the on-board speakeroutput.Quote

How far has the build progressed? Got the OS installed yet? You have to have the audio driver loaded before you get the audio to work. -
MOVED: z77a-g43 cold boot overclock issue

Hello all,
I have this weird issue with cold booting while overclocking. I've tried very hard to diagnose the problem but have been unable to find the culprit.
So I'm using an i5-2500k with the mobo in the subject. I have flashed the BIOS to the latest (2.4). So everytime I try to overclock by using a different multi (it can be as subtle has x34) the system will fail the overclock while cold booting. What I mean by that is if I do the overclock from the bios then save&reboot it will load in windows and be totally stable under IBT. I can achieve any kind of overclock up to 4.7 Ghz and it will be totally stable.
BUT, as soon as I do a shutdown of the system, upon booting (cold boot), the computer will try to boot but fail at it. I'll be prompted by the bios to reload default.
I've tried various combinaisons to no avail. I even tried to underclock the processor to sub x33. I don't understand what could be wrong. It seems as soon as I switch to anything else then auto on the ratio, it won't boot from shutdown. Weird.
Thanks in advance for your inputs.

https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=165305.0I was told that Z77A-G43 should be just fine for my needs. Couple years ago I bought high end MB and it was a mistake, they are putting there so many useless stuff for which I need to pay ... (like firewire which I never used).
Z77A-G43 is fine for me but I was not aware before buying about all of its limitations. It is quite ok now when I figured out in UEFI where the needed options are hidden. Probably on better board I would be able to get from 200 to 400 Mhz more from CPU but to do that I would need to take off the IHS and pay almost 2 times more for the motherboard. (and pay for useless stuff like two quick PCIE ports (I am not planning to have a SLI/Crossfire), dozens of SATA ports etc.) If there were good board in decent price I would bought it but I do not need a motherboard for a homemade datacenter
Regarding Lucid earlier I had Abit (also the lower end) and I am not used to be virtually limited by having minimazed bios options or lack of software support. Of course this was different vendor with different business approach.
Asus cheap boards like P8B75-M have support for Virtu MVP ... so it's doable and affordable but MSI wants to have an argument over selling more expensive boards. Now I totally get their marketing strategy.

Three beeps when booting new computer with MSI Z77A-G43 Mobo
I just built this pc and pressed the power button. Nothing happens for a few seconds and then I hear 3 beeps from the PC speaker. It powers off by itself and opens again, with 3 beeps again, and repeats this until i press the power button to close it down forcefully.
Board: MSI Z77A-G43
Bios: I am not sure, but the box says Click BIOS II

MEM: Corsair
HDD: 1 TB Western Digital Caviar Black
COOLER: CoolMaster Hyper 212 EVO

try each stick in slot 2 individually as you may possibly have a bad stick?
if the first suggestion doesn't work remove the CPU and check the socket as you may have a bent pin in there causing the issue? -

Z77A-G43 OC 4.3 with power saving work , Thanks xmad
Goes up @ 4.3GHz on full load, then come down to 1.6GHz idle( perfect) try with prime95 about a hour, temperature when up to 71c then between 58-65c
Set all to auto, then enter the cpu features.
Set the power levels short / long to 255 and the power duration to 2 seconds.
Then increase the turbo speed there to w/er you wish 4.2-4.5 are typical everyday overclock settings.
( OK mine if i'm not mistaking it's 1-core ratio limit [43] ,
2-core ratio limit [43] , 3-core ratio limit [43] 4-core ratio limit [43]
Pic attached
Other settings needed.
Vdroop: 75-100% ( NOT available on mine)
Pll : enabled
Overspeed protection: Disabled
Enhanced Turbo: Enabled
Ok now i'm experimenting a little bit, i try 44 for ratio but crash after prime 95 working
Should i adjust vcore small step at a time?
or other setting? thanks

Ow hi guys
I just found this while I've been searching and reading up on overclocking and I was wondering if you guys can just help me out? I will continue to read up and learn more, but is it possible to kind of give me a step by step of what to do with this exact board & Bios?
I also have the Z77A-G43 OC & i7-3770k and from the looks of the reading I want to get to 4.4ghz
I've read the posts and see the pics, but where should I start & what exactly should I all change before starting up windows & running prime etc
Any help would be appreciated aimed at a beginner like me would help Overclocking is just something I'm really learning about now.
TY
Mine is running At 4.3GHz with auto vcore, with Antec water cooler 920 no issue so far..
On reboot, click delete to enter bios then do same setting has me but with Vcore auto, save and reboot, in window under click center , check your clock speed under load, it will give your i7-3770k stable clock zone..
Look in here, the last one https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=162043.0
If you don't mind to try overclock genie first in the bios, I sure would like to know if it does anything for you, cause mine it's only capable to OC Genie the GPU only, . I wrote to company about it but no reply yet..
But it might be a cheap board but you can still overclock it anyway.. -
Problem with Z77A-G43 After bios updating
Hi guys
I purchased my main a week ago, the bus of my rams are 1600 but main detect it 1333. So i updated my bios of 2.7 to 2.10 with live update 5, after the updating progress finished my pc restarted, it doest give any picture and after 20 sec reastart again and again!
I shorted the jumper, i brought out the battery but it didn't have any result. Please tell me a solution. And forgave me for my poor english. My pc:
Msi z77a g43
2*4gb 1600
Core i5 3570k
Sapphire 7790 dualXRAM defaulting to DDR3 1333 is common as the SPD profile of the chips is set for that. For 1600, either manual setting is required or X.M.P. can be tried if the modules have X.M.P. profile.
Live Update bricked your board. Solution is to take the mainboard to a shop with an SPI flash programming device, or obtain RMA for an MSI Service Center, or contact your reseller for instruction.
Next time you need to flash, do it the safe way;

Z77A-G43 no SpeedStep with manually set multiplier
I have bought Z77A-G43 mainboard with i5 3570k. When I put multiplier to Auto then in idle the multiplier goes to 16 but when I put any value (non-Auto, like 34) then it stays that way all the time also in Idle.
Other case is that mainboard have offsets but Vcore is not going down in idle if you do not have enable at once C1E and EIST. Should it work only with EIST option ?
I have Windows 8 Enterprise trial.
I tried many things but it still does not work without having Auto there (I do not want to have auto).
Please inform me how to turn on SpeedStep on this mainboard without loosing the ability to change multiplier.I was told that Z77A-G43 should be just fine for my needs.
