Overdrive Media Console/iPhone Problem Resolved-"iTunes is not responding, bring iTunes to the front and check status.

I could not download books from Overdrive Media Console from my iMac desktop. I realized if I turned off iTunes Match in my iphone, it fixed the problem. On your iphone...Go to "Setting", scroll down to "Music" and turn off iTunes Match. i Tunes match is a music subscription service that I had purchased a few weeks ago. I could not figure out when I tried to download audiobooks from Overdrive I got the following message "iTunes is not responding, bring iTunes to the front and check status". Problem solved. I hope this helps others who are experiencing the same problem!

I'm assuming you are talking about audiobooks and if so, just download all the parts in overdrive media console then locate them in your finder. Go into Itunes and go File > Add new files to Library. Go select all the mp3s and upload them onto your library. Sync your iPhone with it and that is what has worked for me Hope this helps!

  • Converting to MP3 causes iTunes to Not Respond while using 50% CPU usage and makes my computer stutter

Anytime I attempt to "Createa an MP3 Version" of a track, it will take a REALLY long time to work.
Right now I am attempting to convert an audio book I have which has 88 tracks.  Once I start to convert anything more than 1 track at a time, iTunes immediatly becomes "Not Responding" and takes up about 50% of my CPU the entire time.  It seems like it's doing something in the background but it won't even update the screen anymore, creating weird effects on my screen (Ghost menu bars show up at the top of my screen, etc.).  In addition, once iTunes becomes non-responsive, my entire computer starts to "stutter" meaning that every other second everything momentarily hiccips and stop for a split-second.  This means that while iTunes is converting any multiple MP3 files, if I drag the mouse across the screen, it stops every other second.  Any videos that I try to play pause every other second briefly.  Basically, my computer becomes almost unusable.  Plus, while iTunes is working in the background, different programs randomly jump to the front of the screen.  I will try to be using my web browser while iTunes is working in the background.  Then, suddenly, iTunes pops back up to the foreground in front of my browser (put still won't be responsive to clicks).  My notes program will also flash windows in front of my web browser while surfing, again, only when iTunes is running in the background.
    I really don't understand:
    1.  Why it takes so much time to convert any file to an MP3 file.  Even converting a single track takes a few minutes.  I'll let my Macbook Pro (with Windows) sit for HOURS upon hours trying to convert the 88 track audio book and it always freezes up and never comes back.
    2.  Why iTunes becomes non-responsive so quickly and won't allow the screen to update once it starts "thinking."  It caps out around 50% of my CPU power so it's not like it doesn't have the headroom to refresh the screen while it works.
    3.  Why does iTunes' working in the background affect every other program I am running?  I don't mind if it uses up CPU cycles in the background, but if it makes my computer unusable while doing so, it's really not worth it.
I should state that I love Apple products (even though I use Windows on my MBP for school purposes).  However, I absolutely DREAD having to do anything with iTunes anymore because it has become such a hog on my computer.  Someone please tell me that there is something wrong with my iTunes and/or a setting I should change.  I have already re-installed iTunes from scratch before and that didn't help.

Not a solution, but if the Podcast feed is dormant, why not unsubscribe?
As to the file structure for media on the device it is deliberately obscured as a countermeasure to casual piracy. See Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device. Content put on the iPod by a non-iPod aware product is going to treat it like any external drive. The iPod firmware won't read that media.

  • TS1389 I paid for a year of Music Match but my iphone tells me I am not subscribed. I have the receipt and acknowledgment from Apple. Why is the iphone doing this?

New to iPhone and thought Music Match sounded cool. Apple acknowledges my payment but the iPhone says I;m not subscribed. PRetty sure I'm suing the correct Apple I.D. and password. Any ideas out there?

I have done that and it is definitely on.  My husband has the exact same phone and I upgraded his IOS at the same time, but this problem is not happening to his phone (we are also on the same plan, so our service should be the same).  Our settings appear to be identical and my phone is showing the 3G symbol at the top, so I can't understand why it won't access the network.
I've turned it on and off twice and have reset all settings with my iTunes account, but it still isn't working.
I'm not a complete idiot with this sort of stuff - I have tried all the obvious things.

  • Overdrive Media Console can't recognize iTunes after 12.1.1.4 upgrade

I have successfully used Overdrive Media Console to transfer audiobooks to my iPod Classic (160GB) for a couple of years.  However, after upgrading iTunes to current 12.1.1.4 version on my PC (Windows Vista), when I try to transfer either MP3 or WMA audiobooks, Overdrive says it cannot connect to iTunes.  I have uninstalled and reinstalled both iTunes and Overdrive multiple times without success, and have reset my iPod.  Overdrive support advises that this issue sometimes arises when iTunes upgrades, but that its current version of Overdrive Media Console, which I have, has fixed this issue with iTunes 12.1.1.4, and they are "unable to duplicate" my problem using current iTunes and Overdrive versions.  Any suggestions?

You may find that the version of iTunes found here works better with your third party software.
iTunes for Windows (64-bit — for older video cards)
Like all 64-bit versions of iTunes prior to 12.1 it is a 64-bit installer for mostly 32-bit code.

  • ?How do I remove  audio books I got from the library using overdrive media console

How do I remove audio books from my ipod touch  I received from the library using overdrive media console?

To remove a book from a mobile device plug the device into the USB port and open iTunes. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of your iPod, iPhone, or iPad in the Device section of the left hand menu of iTunes so that you can see the device’s subcontents. For an MP3 book select the Music subsection, right click on the book and choose Delete.  For a WMA book (Windows), select the Book subsection, right click on the book and choose Delete.

  • ITunes is not responding after transferring files to iPod Touch

I upgraded iTunes to iTunes 8.2.0.23 last week. I have a first generation iPod Touch (8 GB) running v. 2.2.1. Since upgrading iTunes, after copying new files onto my iPod Touch, both iTunes and the Touch indicate "Syncing in progress" for several minutes after the files have been copied. Eventually, the Touch's screen will stop displaying the syncing message and turn itself off but iTunes stays on "Syncing in progress". I am unable to eject the Touch (although I know I don't have to). In fact iTunes is completely locked up. When I go to the Windows Task Manager, it shows that iTunes is not responding. I end the task there and it closes iTunes. This happens every time I add new files to the Touch.
I've read in various discussion pages about similar problems occuring but they all involve Version 3.0 Touch's or iPhones. Perhaps this is something particular with iTunes 8.2.0.23. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The issue was, I store my music on my Windows Home Server and had my iTunes library connected to it over the network. When I transferred my music locally to my computer, the issue stopped. So, I guess the answer is, don't sync your iTunes library from a Windows Home Server.

  • Unlocked iphone 4 from Belgium--screen not responding

I bought an Iphone 4 from Belgium (unlocked by law) last week. I tried to synch with Itunes without a SIM card (no micro SIM cards in Turkey yet). I disconnected phone from PC upon a message saying "no SIM, disconnect". Then I noticed that the screen (slider) is not responding at all. The Apple Center checked the phone and said the screen and digitizer could be defective. My question: Did I miss something? Could it be that w/o a valid SIM at the activation locked the screen? How can I check that I had purchased a defective phone or not?

I have found a valid SIM card, tried with it. It did not change anything. Then I flied to Brussels to the store I bought IP4. I explained to the Customer Service what I had experienced. They checked the device, confirmed that it seemed to be defective and it had to be sent to Apple Netherlands for repair, and I had to give them a Brussels address and waith for the result for 4-5 weeks. I objected to this situation. IP4 came defective out of the box and I was unable to do any operation on it except connecting it to Itunes and activating. I requested a replacement. Their response was "Since the phone is activated, we can not replace it as a rule". I insisted and spent almost an hour discussing with the store manager. I told them that I was misguided from the User Guide, messages on the IP4 screen and suggestions in this forum. (Sorry Wjosten, you were trying to help with good intentions...). Anyhow, at the end they replaced it.
    My suggestions (from this story):
    1. The User Guide and messages on the screen should be revised. Instead of "... insert a valid SIM card to activate the phone..", this should be used: "... in order to activate the phone FUNCTION, you should .....". In other words, I have learned that, even before activation, the slider on the bottom of the screen which says "slide to unlock" should be operational.
    2. For people, planning to buy IP or any Apple product from another country, think twice and be careful and consider the risks. Mine was an unlucky case, but it costed me a lot. Also, at the end, my perception of the quality of Apple products are ruined. Apple is known to produce high-tech, high end and expensive devices. It is difficult to understand why Apple does not provide international warranty and why it exhibits very different customer services (In USA, it seems, it is very easy to replace a defective phone). I paid a significant amount (639 Euro) from a reputable store, and ended up with an unacceptable procedure (4-5 weeks wait time for repair) for an out-of-box defective phone..

  • Purchased and downloaded an app.to IPhone 6, but it will not respond.

I purchased and downloaded an app to my IPhone and opened it, but it will not respond.

    @barbara251
Visit the Appstore and see app requirements, because I noticed you are running 6.1.2
If it supports, try re-installing the application and test.
I would delete the application with the steps below
settings>general>usage>manage storage>find the app and tap on it>delete the app>reboot the device>reinstall the desired app
If unsuccessful, contact the developer for further assitance

  • Transferring protected WMA audiobooks to iTunes/iPhone using OverDrive Media Console

    Hi there,
My local library is now offering audiobooks. I have downloaded one, that went fine - I have the file and can listen to it. The problem is that I can't seem to transfer the WMA Audiobook to my iPhone using this software they provided (OverDrive Media Console), even though their website says that it can be transferred to apple devices (including my iPhone) and the library site says that this particular audiobook is permitted to be transferred to apple devices (including the iPhone).
When I try to Transfer using the OverDrive Media Console, I get this error:
"The OverDrive Media Console Transfer Wizard is not able to connect to iTunes. If you intend to transfer content to the iTunes Library and/or a supported Apple device, please note that iTunes v9.0.2 (or newer) is required. iTunes is available as a free download from Apple; visit http://www.apple.com/itunes/download to download iTunes. If your system meets this requirement, please close any open iTunes dialog boxes then attempt to transfer again."
I have read that others have had the problem, but there are few solutions emerging, from what I can see anyway.
I have went to this website (http://drmlicense.one.microsoft.com/indivsite) in my Internet Explorer browser and upgraded the Windows Media Player security version. OverDrive says my security upgrade version is 2.9.0.1.
My iTunes is up to date as far as I know. iTunes 10.4.0.80. Perhaps the recent update is something to do with this problem? I don't know. I am using Windows 7, and the OverDrive Media Console version is 3.2.0.5.
I have changed my iPhone settings to "Manually manage music and videos", as OverDrive requests this.
When I try to put these protected WMA Audiobook files into my Automatically Add to iTunes folder, I get an error message saying:
"One or more of the songs being added are in the protected WMA format, including the song "examplesongname01.wma", and could not be converted.
iTunes can only convert unprotected WMA songs. If you have the original CDs for these songs, you can import them using iTunes."
I have restarted iTunes, OverDrive Media Console, and my computer countless times. My home network sharing is turned off; I mention it as I saw someone had suggested that as a solution.
The two suggested solutions I haven't tried yet are:
    - convert them to MP3
    - uninstall and reinstall iTunes & OverDrive Media Console again.
I don't really want to uninstall iTunes. I have a lot of music and audiobooks; it takes half aday for iTunes to load them all up again. As for converting to MP3s; I don't know if this is legal. Plus, I don't know if these protected DRM files can be converted like that.
Ok, well I hope someone else was in the same boat & solved it. Otherwise it'd be a real shame if we couldn't get these protected WMA audiobooks onto our iPhones.
    Hope you can help.
    Thanks.

Once you have downloaded the audiobook to Overdrive Media (OMC), you need to connect the Apple device to which you wish to transfer the ebook, then use the transfer button on OMC.  That converts it to an mp3 file.  The ebook cannot be transferred to iTunes.  iTunes is simply the medium used in the transfer to an Apple device.  The tutorial below covers all the specifics.
Many libraries worldwide now use Overdrive Media Console, which comes in Mac an Windows versions http://www.overdrive.com/Software/omc .  Some find the mobile device transfer process confusing.  To load or delete a WMA or MP3 (Macs can only download MP3 books) audiobook onto an Apple mobile device see the "How to Transfer to a Portable Device" video in the guides at Step 7, then do the following.
    1. For Windows versions, you must first do a security update of Windows Media Player (even though you won't be using it) using Internet Explorer at http://drmlicense.one.microsoft.com/indivsite .
    2.  Open iTunes, plug the mobile device into the computer USB port and open the Overdrive Media Console.
    3. Highlight the mobile device in the left hand menu of iTunes and insure the "Manually manage music and videos" box is checked in the Summary Tab. If the mobile device storage is full, transfering will delete that portion of music necessary for the ebook.
    4. Highlight the book you want to transfer in the Overdrive Media Console and click the Transfer Button.   A window opens permitting you to click the boxes for parts of the book you wish to transfer.
    5. After the book has been transfered, when you click the disclosure triangle (arrow) to the left of the iPod, iPhone, or iPad in the Device section of the left hand menu of iTunes, MP3 books will show up under the Music subsection and WMA books will show up in the Books subsection.  Once the mobile device is disconnected from iTunes, MP3 books will show up in the Songs list of the mobile device and WMA books will show up in the Books list.
    6. For a WMA book, select the Book subsection, right click on the book and choose Delete.
    7. The Overdrive Media Console Guided Tour (videos) is at http://www.overdrive.com/Solutions/Libraries/tour/MenuWelcome.html .  The "Portable Devices" and "How to Transfer to a Portable Device" videos are there.
    8. To find a nearby library for ebooks search http://search.overdrive.com .  You can download the software, search for books and see tutorials without an account at the website of any library that uses Overdrive, however, you need a library card to download books.  At this library site, for example, the software and guided tour are at the bottom of the left hand menu.

  • I just installed the latest version of iTunes to my windows 8 computer.  I was downloading audiobooks through overdrive media console just fine until I downloaded this new version. It says it has been transferred but it's not in my iPod. Help!

I just installed the latest version of iTunes on my windows 8 computer.  I was trying to transfer an audiobook I downloaded through overdrive media console to my iPod nano. Overdrive says it was transferred successfully, but it is not in my iPod.  I have had no problems transferring audiobooks until I downloaded this new version.  Help!

I just realized that part of my post got cut off.  There was a message that i could not connect to the Apple store (and my genius stopped running).

  • Overdrive Media console not working with iTunes when transferring audio books.  Any suggestions?

Overdrive Media console not working with iTunes when transferring audiobooks.  Some parts don't transfer.

Robin, I have the 4S too. Here's wha I've been doing. Well, I am downloading wma books, but it is super time consuming and annoying. First, shut off genius in your preferences in iTunes. Also change to spoken podcast for speed. Then, you start to transfer from Overdrive. It will create a playlist with your book title. Open up books though because you need to keep an eye on it. It may download like three parts and then you may have a grey one. When you get the grey, cancel the transfer, delete the greyed part, exit iTunes, re-enter iTunes, and then try to download the remaining book parts. I usually have to re-enter iTunes three or four different times during a book. When your book is downloaded, all black and none grey, open up the playlist folder and double check that all parts made it in there. If not, carry them from the books folder to the playlist and then move it into numerical order.
Re non bookmarking problem. I now have a new habit of checking what part I am on before i shut off my phone or switch to another book. It does save where you were, it just doesn't show you. For instance, if I start part three and then play music, and then go back to the book playlist, it will appear as if we are back to the beginning, but if I go to part three, it will start up from where I was. So, just start checking and then it is easy. I am flabbergasted that no other proper solution has been offered by Overdrive. This has been a problem since October. I also wish they would acknowledge the problem on their website as well as post what version number of update they have. I have 3.2.1.0 and think that's current. Does anyone have newer than this. Good luck, and happy commuting!
An easy, quick workaround is to plug external speakers into your laptop and take it with you in the car. A bit unwieldy, but I can't commute without books.

  • Itunes + Overdrive Media Console = Error 39

I am running parallels on my macbook so that I can use OverDrive Media Console to get audiobooks from my local library. I previously used ODM on a pc to load files into an ipod without a problem. Now, when I transfer files from ODM to itunes to be loaded onto my ipod, I get an error 39.
I am not syncing any other files onto the ipod, I have selected 'manage files manually', and have adjusted the AAC encoding settings to those specified by ODM.
What else can I try to fix this?

If you have figured this out by now, please post the solution - I am having a similar problem getting the audiobooks into my iTunes. I also used to download everything on a Windows Vista laptop with no problem. This is my first Mac, and I'm hoping there is some way around this error.
