Overdrive media console

I upgraded to os5 and went to library to download book which downloaded but can't find book.  I emailed overdrive and they told me to upgrade but their is no upgraded version to download .  Has anyone else had this problem?

I have been in communication with Overdrive support without luck. There is a new update as of today 11/3/11 for overdrive version v3.2.07. Below is the message they sent me. However, I am sad to say this still is not solving my problem (but it might work for you).
Does anyone have any other suggestions? I have completely uninstalled iTunes and Overdrive, and I've checked the suggested settings. After installing this last update, I received an error message in iTunes that said, "itunes could not copy ["name of audiobook"] to the ipod cause an unknown error occured (-120)"
We're happy to report that OverDrive Media Console v3.2.0.7 has been released
and should resolve the issue that you are experiencing. You may download the
updated version from our website at the link below.
http://overdrive.com/Software/omc/
After installing the update, attempt to transfer an OverDrive WMA title to your
device. Once you have transferred a WMA audiobook to your device, a playlist
will be created for the audiobook where it can be played. Please note that WMA
audiobooks will not be listed in 'Audiobooks' on your iOS 5 device. You may
also need to take the following steps to move parts of the audiobook to the
created playlist:
1. Connect your device to your computer.
2. Open iTunes.
3. Click on 'Books' located under your device name in the left column of
iTunes.
4. Drag the parts over to the playlist created for the audiobook, which is also
located under your device name in iTunes.
5. Verify that the parts are in the correct order.

  • Can not find WMA files in iTunes, for borrowing library books with Overdrive Media Console

I have borrowed audiobooks from the library, using iTunes and Overdrive Media Console for years.  some months ago, I was suddenly unable to.  thought it was my old computer, so bought a new one.  took weeks to be able to get an upgrade from Windows, and when I was finally able to thought my troubles were over.
but, no,  now the Overdrive Media says it can not connect to iTunes.  someone at Overdrive said iTunes had to be the default player for WMA files, but I can not figure out how to make that happen, since there is nothing that looks like 'WMA files' anywhere on my computer.  any advice?  I can't afford to purchase audiobooks, and I really miss being able to borrow from the library.  this new computer has Windows 8 OS

There is a OneClickdigital ereader available in the App Store. Download that to your iPod to read pdfs and books from the library. And you might need to download the OneClickdigital eaudio player to listen to audiobooks from the library. Once both are downloaded sync you iPod again to transfer them.

  • Transferring protected WMA audiobooks to iTunes/iPhone using OverDrive Media Console

    Hi there,
My local library is now offering audiobooks. I have downloaded one, that went fine - I have the file and can listen to it. The problem is that I can't seem to transfer the WMA Audiobook to my iPhone using this software they provided (OverDrive Media Console), even though their website says that it can be transferred to apple devices (including my iPhone) and the library site says that this particular audiobook is permitted to be transferred to apple devices (including the iPhone).
When I try to Transfer using the OverDrive Media Console, I get this error:
"The OverDrive Media Console Transfer Wizard is not able to connect to iTunes. If you intend to transfer content to the iTunes Library and/or a supported Apple device, please note that iTunes v9.0.2 (or newer) is required. iTunes is available as a free download from Apple; visit http://www.apple.com/itunes/download to download iTunes. If your system meets this requirement, please close any open iTunes dialog boxes then attempt to transfer again."
I have read that others have had the problem, but there are few solutions emerging, from what I can see anyway.
I have went to this website (http://drmlicense.one.microsoft.com/indivsite) in my Internet Explorer browser and upgraded the Windows Media Player security version. OverDrive says my security upgrade version is 2.9.0.1.
My iTunes is up to date as far as I know. iTunes 10.4.0.80. Perhaps the recent update is something to do with this problem? I don't know. I am using Windows 7, and the OverDrive Media Console version is 3.2.0.5.
I have changed my iPhone settings to "Manually manage music and videos", as OverDrive requests this.
When I try to put these protected WMA Audiobook files into my Automatically Add to iTunes folder, I get an error message saying:
"One or more of the songs being added are in the protected WMA format, including the song "examplesongname01.wma", and could not be converted.
iTunes can only convert unprotected WMA songs. If you have the original CDs for these songs, you can import them using iTunes."
I have restarted iTunes, OverDrive Media Console, and my computer countless times. My home network sharing is turned off; I mention it as I saw someone had suggested that as a solution.
The two suggested solutions I haven't tried yet are:
    - convert them to MP3
    - uninstall and reinstall iTunes & OverDrive Media Console again.
I don't really want to uninstall iTunes. I have a lot of music and audiobooks; it takes half aday for iTunes to load them all up again. As for converting to MP3s; I don't know if this is legal. Plus, I don't know if these protected DRM files can be converted like that.
Ok, well I hope someone else was in the same boat & solved it. Otherwise it'd be a real shame if we couldn't get these protected WMA audiobooks onto our iPhones.
    Hope you can help.
    Thanks.

Once you have downloaded the audiobook to Overdrive Media (OMC), you need to connect the Apple device to which you wish to transfer the ebook, then use the transfer button on OMC.  That converts it to an mp3 file.  The ebook cannot be transferred to iTunes.  iTunes is simply the medium used in the transfer to an Apple device.  The tutorial below covers all the specifics.
Many libraries worldwide now use Overdrive Media Console, which comes in Mac an Windows versions http://www.overdrive.com/Software/omc .  Some find the mobile device transfer process confusing.  To load or delete a WMA or MP3 (Macs can only download MP3 books) audiobook onto an Apple mobile device see the "How to Transfer to a Portable Device" video in the guides at Step 7, then do the following.
    1. For Windows versions, you must first do a security update of Windows Media Player (even though you won't be using it) using Internet Explorer at http://drmlicense.one.microsoft.com/indivsite .
    2.  Open iTunes, plug the mobile device into the computer USB port and open the Overdrive Media Console.
    3. Highlight the mobile device in the left hand menu of iTunes and insure the "Manually manage music and videos" box is checked in the Summary Tab. If the mobile device storage is full, transfering will delete that portion of music necessary for the ebook.
    4. Highlight the book you want to transfer in the Overdrive Media Console and click the Transfer Button.   A window opens permitting you to click the boxes for parts of the book you wish to transfer.
    5. After the book has been transfered, when you click the disclosure triangle (arrow) to the left of the iPod, iPhone, or iPad in the Device section of the left hand menu of iTunes, MP3 books will show up under the Music subsection and WMA books will show up in the Books subsection.  Once the mobile device is disconnected from iTunes, MP3 books will show up in the Songs list of the mobile device and WMA books will show up in the Books list.
    6. To remove a book from a mobile device plug the device into the USB port and open iTunes. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of your iPod, iPhone, or iPad in the Device section of the left hand menu of iTunes so that you can see the device’s subcontents. For an MP3 book select the Music subsection, right click on the book and choose Delete.  For a WMA book, select the Book subsection, right click on the book and choose Delete.
    7. The Overdrive Media Console Guided Tour (videos) is at http://www.overdrive.com/Solutions/Libraries/tour/MenuWelcome.html .  The "Portable Devices" and "How to Transfer to a Portable Device" videos are there.
    8. To find a nearby library for ebooks search http://search.overdrive.com .  You can download the software, search for books and see tutorials without an account at the website of any library that uses Overdrive, however, you need a library card to download books.  At this library site, for example, the software and guided tour are at the bottom of the left hand menu.

  • I just installed the latest version of iTunes to my windows 8 computer.  I was downloading audiobooks through overdrive media console just fine until I downloaded this new version. It says it has been transferred but it's not in my iPod. Help!

I just installed the latest version of iTunes on my windows 8 computer.  I was trying to transfer an audiobook I downloaded through overdrive media console to my iPod nano. Overdrive says it was transferred successfully, but it is not in my iPod.  I have had no problems transferring audiobooks until I downloaded this new version.  Help!

I just realized that part of my post got cut off.  There was a message that i could not connect to the Apple store (and my genius stopped running).

  • Having issues with Overdrive Media console...

I have been using Overdrive Media Console to download audio books for about 6 months now.....but I recently upgraded to the iPhone 4S and since then, I will download books and transfer them to my iPhone, says that transfer was completed successfully, but when I unplug it from my laptop (Windows 7), they don't show up on my phone......under the audiobooks it says that I don't have any audiobooks and that I can download some in iTunes. I have done a search on the phone as well and they are not showing up at all. But when I plug it back into iTunes, there they are, right under books when I look at the content on my phone through iTunes.
I don't really know if this is a problem with the iPhone 4S, or iOS 5........it worked with no problems at all on my old 4 and iOS 4.3.
Any ideas why this is happening and what I can do to fix it? iTunes and Overdrive Media Console are all up to date and no settings have been changed since I last used it with my iPhone 4.
I listen to a lot of audio books and I am getting really tired of being chained to my laptop to listen to them, either through the actual Overdrive Media Console, or through my phone, plugged in and playing through iTunes.
Thanks for any advice on how to fix this.......

I am having the same exact problem.  I really hope this issue gets addressed soon.  I am an audiobook junkie. For the person above.  My 3G iphone still works with the overdrive media and the new iTunes software on my computer, so I am guessing it has something to do with the iOS 5.
This really does stink!  I listen to audio at least 7 hours a day. I answer calls as they come in with my bose headphones, and I was so looking forward to using siri with my headphones as I was driving.  Now my new phone will be in my purse and my old phone will still be connected to my hedphones listening to my audiobooks. Someday I hope to get this whole set up actually in sync and compatible with each other.  I love my new Iphone 4S though.  What an awewsome phone!!

  • Overdrive Media Console app for old ipod touch with ios 4.2.1

A friend recently gave me an "old" ipod touch. According to my itunes software, Its os is now up to date with version 4.2.1. I want to download the app for Overdrive Media Console, but current version 4.6.2 of Overdrive requires requires ios 4.3. Is there a way to download an earlier version of the app that will work with my ipod touch? Thanks for your reply.

Your only way is if you have the version that was compatible on your computer such as in the recycle bin/trash or in a computer file backup. In that case delete the current version that is in your iTunes App library and replace it with the older version. Then sync.

  • When trying to transfer book thru overdrive media console it says the selected portable player could not be found. Have set to manually manage don't know what to do

I don't know if I already asked the question so here I go again. I have previously downloaded public library audiobooks thru overdrive media console successfully hundreds of times on old ipod touch.  I just got another Ipod touch and I must have pushed wrong button somewhere because when I try to transfer the title from overdrive media to ipod a box pops up saying...
The selected portable player (ipod) could not be found.  I have set my new ipod to manually manage music and videos which is required.  Don't know what to do at my wits end.  Went to local apple store but they couldn't help me because third party is involved please help before I hurt someone lol
I have downloaded all available update ie media player, overdrive media, itunes

  • HT201272 I seem to have a version of overdrive media console that does not support wma audiobooks files. Is there anyone with this problem with a solution.

I recently installed the overdrive media console.  I was able to down e books and mp3 books but when I tried to down wma books. A message flashes out that the omc that I installed from the apps store is unsupported format.  The version of omc does not support wma audiobook titles.  Any suggestions.
    Daphne

WMA stands for Windows Media Audio...it is a Microsoft audio format that is not supported on the Mac or iOS version of the apps.   If you want to use the WMA audiobooks, you will have to use the Windows desktop app.  You can use MP3 audiobooks on any version of the app.

I am getting this error message - Error 0x80004002 - when trying to transfer an audio book from OverDrive Media Console.  It was working a couple of weeks ago.  It keeps telling me to downloan iTune9.0.2 (or newer) but I have the most up to date version of iTunes.  Also tells me the device is not connected, but it is.

The publisher of the book seems to have restricted copying of the book on to other devices. Contact the book distributor.

  • Overdrive Media console not working with iTunes when transferring audio books.  Any suggestions?

Overdrive Media console not working with iTunes when transferring audiobooks.  Some parts don't transfer.

Robin, I have the 4S too. Here's wha I've been doing. Well, I am downloading wma books, but it is super time consuming and annoying. First, shut off genius in your preferences in iTunes. Also change to spoken podcast for speed. Then, you start to transfer from Overdrive. It will create a playlist with your book title. Open up books though because you need to keep an eye on it. It may download like three parts and then you may have a grey one. When you get the grey, cancel the transfer, delete the greyed part, exit iTunes, re-enter iTunes, and then try to download the remaining book parts. I usually have to re-enter iTunes three or four different times during a book. When your book is downloaded, all black and none grey, open up the playlist folder and double check that all parts made it in there. If not, carry them from the books folder to the playlist and then move it into numerical order.
Re non bookmarking problem. I now have a new habit of checking what part I am on before i shut off my phone or switch to another book. It does save where you were, it just doesn't show you. For instance, if I start part three and then play music, and then go back to the book playlist, it will appear as if we are back to the beginning, but if I go to part three, it will start up from where I was. So, just start checking and then it is easy. I am flabbergasted that no other proper solution has been offered by Overdrive. This has been a problem since October. I also wish they would acknowledge the problem on their website as well as post what version number of update they have. I have 3.2.1.0 and think that's current. Does anyone have newer than this. Good luck, and happy commuting!
An easy, quick workaround is to plug external speakers into your laptop and take it with you in the car. A bit unwieldy, but I can't commute without books.

  • I cannot stream video from my local public library on my iPad Air 2 using Overdrive Media Console

I am unable to stream videos from my local public library on my iPad Air 2 using the Overdrive
Media Console App. I can stream videos on my older iPad 1st generation.  Anyone else
    having his problem?

The app gives you instructions to browse to the Overdrive site and put in your Zip Code. You can do this from Safari on the iPad. When you find your local library, you will be asked to log in with your Library Card and PIN. When you select compatible content, the Overdrive app will automatically launch, where it will give you the ability to download content segments, or even all segments. It will also help you keep track of when the book will expire etc. The books are broken up into many segments so that you can manage how much content is stored on your iPad. I did this just this morning, and downloaded 8 of 38 segments of the book 2666.
