Overdrive Media - use of WMA files

Hi: I cannot load WMA format files onto my Playbook. When you use the Overdrive Media Console on the PB, it says you must go to your computer and download the audio files there and  transfer to the PB (The console works fine for E books and MP3 files). However when I go to the computer and try to transfer the files, it does not detect the PB even though I can see it as an external device. Any ideas on how to use these?  Thanks

Not strictly true, I'm fairly certain that WMA files are supported by the PlayBook, but not by Androind devices?
Seeing as Overdrive is an Android app that may be where the problem lies.
When you plug the PlayBook into your PC, you should see a new drive appear in 'Computer', and that's where you copy your files to.

I have a recorder that outputs wma files. How can I get garageband to use my wma files?

I don't think that GarageBand can use wmas, but there's always good old conversion, and GarageBand can definitely use mp3s. Personally, I recommend media.io for stuff like this, but of course it depends on the size of your files. Otherwise I don't know that there's anyway to get GarageBand to work with them...

  • Can not find WMA files in iTunes, for borrowing library books with Overdrive Media Console

I have borrowed audiobooks from the library, using iTunes and Overdrive Media Console for years.  some months ago, I was suddenly unable to.  thought it was my old computer, so bought a new one.  took weeks to be able to get an upgrade from Windows, and when I was finally able to thought my troubles were over.
but, no,  now the Overdrive Media says it can not connect to iTunes.  someone at Overdrive said iTunes had to be the default player for WMA files, but I can not figure out how to make that happen, since there is nothing that looks like 'WMA files' anywhere on my computer.  any advice?  I can't afford to purchase audiobooks, and I really miss being able to borrow from the library.  this new computer has Windows 8 OS

There is a OneClickdigital ereader available in the App Store. Download that to your iPod to read pdfs and books from the library. And you might need to download the OneClickdigital eaudio player to listen to audiobooks from the library. Once both are downloaded sync you iPod again to transfer them.

  • Transferring protected WMA audiobooks to iTunes/iPhone using OverDrive Media Console

    Hi there,
My local library is now offering audiobooks. I have downloaded one, that went fine - I have the file and can listen to it. The problem is that I can't seem to transfer the WMA Audiobook to my iPhone using this software they provided (OverDrive Media Console), even though their website says that it can be transferred to apple devices (including my iPhone) and the library site says that this particular audiobook is permitted to be transferred to apple devices (including the iPhone).
When I try to Transfer using the OverDrive Media Console, I get this error:
"The OverDrive Media Console Transfer Wizard is not able to connect to iTunes. If you intend to transfer content to the iTunes Library and/or a supported Apple device, please note that iTunes v9.0.2 (or newer) is required. iTunes is available as a free download from Apple; visit http://www.apple.com/itunes/download to download iTunes. If your system meets this requirement, please close any open iTunes dialog boxes then attempt to transfer again."
I have read that others have had the problem, but there are few solutions emerging, from what I can see anyway.
I have went to this website (http://drmlicense.one.microsoft.com/indivsite) in my Internet Explorer browser and upgraded the Windows Media Player security version. OverDrive says my security upgrade version is 2.9.0.1.
My iTunes is up to date as far as I know. iTunes 10.4.0.80. Perhaps the recent update is something to do with this problem? I don't know. I am using Windows 7, and the OverDrive Media Console version is 3.2.0.5.
I have changed my iPhone settings to "Manually manage music and videos", as OverDrive requests this.
When I try to put these protected WMA Audiobook files into my Automatically Add to iTunes folder, I get an error message saying:
"One or more of the songs being added are in the protected WMA format, including the song "examplesongname01.wma", and could not be converted.
iTunes can only convert unprotected WMA songs. If you have the original CDs for these songs, you can import them using iTunes."
I have restarted iTunes, OverDrive Media Console, and my computer countless times. My home network sharing is turned off; I mention it as I saw someone had suggested that as a solution.
The two suggested solutions I haven't tried yet are:
    - convert them to MP3
    - uninstall and reinstall iTunes & OverDrive Media Console again.
I don't really want to uninstall iTunes. I have a lot of music and audiobooks; it takes half aday for iTunes to load them all up again. As for converting to MP3s; I don't know if this is legal. Plus, I don't know if these protected DRM files can be converted like that.
Ok, well I hope someone else was in the same boat & solved it. Otherwise it'd be a real shame if we couldn't get these protected WMA audiobooks onto our iPhones.
    Hope you can help.
    Thanks.

Once you have downloaded the audiobook to Overdrive Media (OMC), you need to connect the Apple device to which you wish to transfer the ebook, then use the transfer button on OMC.  That converts it to an mp3 file.  The ebook cannot be transferred to iTunes.  iTunes is simply the medium used in the transfer to an Apple device.  The tutorial below covers all the specifics.
Many libraries worldwide now use Overdrive Media Console, which comes in Mac an Windows versions http://www.overdrive.com/Software/omc .  Some find the mobile device transfer process confusing.  To load or delete a WMA or MP3 (Macs can only download MP3 books) audiobook onto an Apple mobile device see the "How to Transfer to a Portable Device" video in the guides at Step 7, then do the following.
    1. For Windows versions, you must first do a security update of Windows Media Player (even though you won't be using it) using Internet Explorer at http://drmlicense.one.microsoft.com/indivsite .
    2.  Open iTunes, plug the mobile device into the computer USB port and open the Overdrive Media Console.
    3. Highlight the mobile device in the left hand menu of iTunes and insure the "Manually manage music and videos" box is checked in the Summary Tab. If the mobile device storage is full, transfering will delete that portion of music necessary for the ebook.
    4. Highlight the book you want to transfer in the Overdrive Media Console and click the Transfer Button.   A window opens permitting you to click the boxes for parts of the book you wish to transfer.
    5. After the book has been transfered, when you click the disclosure triangle (arrow) to the left of the iPod, iPhone, or iPad in the Device section of the left hand menu of iTunes, MP3 books will show up under the Music subsection and WMA books will show up in the Books subsection.  Once the mobile device is disconnected from iTunes, MP3 books will show up in the Songs list of the mobile device and WMA books will show up in the Books list.
    6. To remove a book from a mobile device plug the device into the USB port and open iTunes. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of your iPod, iPhone, or iPad in the Device section of the left hand menu of iTunes so that you can see the device’s subcontents. For an MP3 book select the Music subsection, right click on the book and choose Delete.  For a WMA book, select the Book subsection, right click on the book and choose Delete.
    7. The Overdrive Media Console Guided Tour (videos) is at http://www.overdrive.com/Solutions/Libraries/tour/MenuWelcome.html .  The "Portable Devices" and "How to Transfer to a Portable Device" videos are there.
    8. To find a nearby library for ebooks search http://search.overdrive.com .  You can download the software, search for books and see tutorials without an account at the website of any library that uses Overdrive, however, you need a library card to download books.  At this library site, for example, the software and guided tour are at the bottom of the left hand menu.

  • OverDrive Media files cannot be used on iPods or Mac computers

Our local library at "'librariesonthego.library.on.ca" offers audiobooks on loan. Regretfully it seems I can't use my iMAC G5 and iPod nano to download & play the audiobooks because the audiobooks use DRM technology from Microsoft which is not compatible with iPods or OS-X. In order to take advantage I must use a PC and I will need to purchase another mobile player device.
The library has posted the following notice:
"+At this time, OverDrive Media files cannot be used on iPods or Mac computers.+
+Our media titles, provided by OverDrive, Inc., use DRM (Digital Rights Management) protection technology from Microsoft Corporation. Unfortunately the iPod (and Mac) currently support neither DRM-protected Windows Media Audio (.wma) files nor Windows Media Video (.wmv) files.+
+OverDrive, along with hundreds of online media providers, is hopeful that Apple and Microsoft can reach an agreement that would enable support for Microsoft-based DRM-protected materials on the iPod/Mac."+
Apple is usually on the forefront of such digital media developments and, it can be argued, it's work in this area is the reason for it's current success. Accordingly it seems a shame that
Am I missing some obvious point or is Apple actually an unwitting barrier to greater and more prevalent uses of it's own hardware and services?
What do others think of this?

Even though Overdrive now has MP3 audio books, you still can't download from the public library (or any library) with your Mac because the MP3 books still require Overdrive Media Console, which runs only on Windows. Overdrive claims that they will be releasing a Mac version of the Media Console sometime this year. I'll believe it when I can run it.

  • HT201272 I seem to have a version of overdrive media console that does not support wma audiobooks files. Is there anyone with this problem with a solution.

I recently installed the overdrive media console.  I was able to down e books and mp3 books but when I tried to down wma books. A message flashes out that the omc that I installed from the apps store is unsupported format.  The version of omc does not support wma audiobook titles.  Any suggestions.
    Daphne

WMA stands for Windows Media Audio...it is a Microsoft audio format that is not supported on the Mac or iOS version of the apps.   If you want to use the WMA audiobooks, you will have to use the Windows desktop app.  You can use MP3 audiobooks on any version of the app.

  • Can WMA files be burned into Cd format using Creative Media Sour

If so - using what version. I have recently had to "back track" my instsallation to version 00.2 in order to get everything to run properly. But this version does not support conversion of WMA files to the cda foramt.
    Thanks

Version 00.2?? I have version 3.30.2. Where did you got the 00 version form??I am sure the version 3.30 supports conversion from wma to cda format. Otherwise, use Windows Media Player, or the Creative Audio Converter to convert from wma to mp3, then burn those mp3 with Creative Media Source. To get Creative Media Source 3.30.2 go to the Downloads page and search for it. It is free, the same as Windows Media Player.

  • Can't access WMA files using flip4mac plug-in

I'm a new mac user who just bought a macbook this past weekend. I realize that the below is perhaps a microsoft software issue, and not an apple issue (the apple care service people said as much and dismissed me), but the microsoft forums provide no solutions to my issue.
I've downloaded the newest flip4mac (version 2.1) which folks here here suggested, windows media player 9 (which doesn't seem to do anything other than open a blank window with a play and stop button bar at the bottom), and tried running both safari and firefox (with and without "rosetta"), yet some WMA files still won't run.
Most vexing to me is my inability to listen to game day audio from www.mlb.com. The audio player on the website appears but there's no sound and no playback bar (with the play and stop button, streaming time elapsed, etc.). This is similar to other websites. For example, on fan590.com, if I want to "listen live" I get the separate player box, and their load up advertisement plays flawlessly, but the actual streaming audio is blank, without any playback bar.
Before downloading flip4mac, I got a message (like a missing puzzle piece on firefox) telling me I needed a plug-in, but neither browser could detect which one I needed. Now, having installed flip4mac, I no longer get that message, the missing puzzle piece is filled in, but no playback bar.
This is so frustrating because it appears many others have installed flip4mac and report no problems at all, yet this issue persists for me. Is there a certain setting I'm not selecting? It is something basic I'm not doing as a function of me being a mac novice? Or am I doomed never to have access most WMA content from my macbook?

I use flip4mac also and when I use safari to view WMA files, flip4mac is automatically launched.
Here is the forum for flip4mac:

    Good luck!

  • How do I extract *.odm (Overdrive Media) files on my Macbook Air

I'm running OS 10.6.7, OverDrive Media Console for Mac v1.1 and have download and install (I think correctly) Flip4Mac.
I can download the .odm file but can't extract the .wma files - I get this message: This version of OverDrive Media Console does not support Media in the 'WMA Audiobook' format.
Does anyone have a way around this?  I really want to be able to listen to .wma books from my library.
    Thanks.

Thank yes - that would be the easiest - but I'm not talking about listening to it, I can work that part of the problem out myself.
I'm wondering if there is a way to basically run an odm download script on a Mac? to get the wma on my drive.

  • Wma files getting error message the media being played is of an unsupported format

I have tried many methods of moving wma files from my pc to my 8310.  Some work and others trigger the error message "the media being played is of an unsupported format"  Why some work and other don't is mysterious to me.

See this KB for supported media formats:
KB05482 Media types supported on the BlackBerry smartphone
Now, that is for the native BB media player...if you are using this app you say you installed, then your query needs to be addressed to the app developer...
    Hope that helps!

  • Zen Micro - copying WMA files with DRM using WM

I have Windows 98SE and Windows Media Player 9. I was wondering, if I get a Zen Micro, will I be able to use WMP 9 to copy DRM-protected WMA files to my device, or do I have to use the Creative software? I read in another post something about the 2.x branch of the firmware being needed for Plays For Sure compatibility -- does this mean I would need this firmware to use WMP? Does the 2.x firmware have the fixes for the battery drain problem, etc.
One more question. With my Muvo TX FM, Windows Explorer recognizes it as a removable dri've, and I can drag-and-drop non-DRM MP3s directly to it. Is this possible with the Zen Micro?
    Thanks,
    Huck

  • How to convert WMA files (from Windows Media Player) to play in iTunes

How do I convert WMA files (from Windows Media Player) to now play in iTunes?

Use Edit > Preferences > General tab > Import Settings to set your desired import format and bitrate. Note there is no point converting 128k wma into 320k mp3, you'll just get bigger files with no improvement in quality. Once you have set your import settings just drag & drop the files you want converted into iTunes.

Something about choosing "manually", but I cannot find anything on the iTunes page that allows me to do this. I can't see it in help or tutorials, or anywhere.
