Overexposed Face with a Marquee Twist

I can draw the marquee squares or elipse. I can draw them and constrain them and reposition them.
What I cannot figure out is once I have drawn the shape, let go of the mouse and want to THEN go and change the size & shape of the marquee, how to do it. How do I make the top/bottom of a circular elipse change? And then bring a side in? Do I have to keep re-drawing until I am perfect?
I have some images with some very tough lighting. I think the images were shot in the wrong camera ISO settings. So most of the pictures have 4-5 people in them and it is there faces that have this HUGE amount of overexposure going on. How can I isolate their faces to work on the exposure/lighting/color correction for their heads? And then select inverse(?) and correct the rest of the area?

To Re-size selection after using maquee go to top menu 'select' scroll down to 'transform selection' works just like free transform.
Not sure about the second question. Maybe try the magic wand tool with anti-alaised and contiguous checked. You can then expand the selection with select on the top menu - modify- grow then choose how many pixels to expand by. Maybe smooth selection out by feathering it a couple of pixels too. (in the same menu).
Select inverse- Ctrl+shift+i

Dealing with overexposed faces in old color photos

Am I correct in assuming that aperture can't really do much for recovering of detail for overexposed faces in non-digital photos?
I have tried various methods given by youtube tutorials but they did not have much of an effect.
These methods seem to be geared towards digitial photos .
Would scanning in at a higher DPI increase my chances or should I consider tracking down the negative and getting a bigger print struck?

Hi Jim,
Digital or otherwise, the question is whether there is any data that can be recovered.
Are the prints/negatives "blown" or "overexposed"?
"Blown" means the only luminance data there indicates pure white (which has no hue). "Over-exposed" means the data is lighter than you want.
If there is no data showing anything but pure white, there is nothing you can recover using any process (in a darkroom or with a computer).
If there is data that has a lower luminance than pure white, you should be able to make it more visible by lowering the luminance (and increasing the saturation).
Scanning at a higher DPI will not recover any data in any blown area. It will just give you a finer gradation of existing data.
To see where you have non-white data, crop to the face and slide the Highlights slider all the way to 100. Blown pixels will remain white.
The film negative may contain more data than your print.

Ipod mini hard drive goes crunch and now get Sad face with IPOD

I've notice that after I installed new ITUNES and Updater software, my mini has the following problems:
1. Click to the song and it just sits there and then it might skip over a the next song or songs before playing, like it is frozen
2. I hear the hard drive - spinning and hear this crunching sound -
3. Now I get the sad face with the ipod icon
So would restoring my ipod help or should I take it and get it fixed, and how much would that cost

Is this noise you describe really a crunching noise - like a can being crushed, or more of a rhythmic or repeating clicking noise? It is normal for a drive to amke clicking sounds as it reads and writes to the drive. When this noise becomes rhythmic and repetitive, it can be a problem. If it is indeed a click-click-click type of noise or pattern, it could be that the drive is stuck. This can sometimes be corrected by tapping the iPod's left or right side against your palm firmly. I have revived several iPod mini's this way, and have not had it produce any ill effects. However, do note that you try this at your own risk and only if you are comfortable with the possibility or doing more damage. However, my opinion is that A) The iPod doesn't work right now, so there isn't much to lose, and B) you could save on a costly repair if it DOES work.

- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

- Try another cable
- Try on another computer

FF5 error parsing CSS font-face with url inline base64 data

Firefox 5 refuses to parse CSS @font-face with url inline base64 data.
I use the declaration:

Tried with different mime types (font/ttf,font/otf,font/opentype,application/x-font-ttf etc.), with or without charset specification, with or without quoting the font family name, with different specifications:

Finally I got it work! Thanks, cor-el, you pointed me the right way to solve this problem.
There was problem with the encoding too (there was part of the font missing at the end, because of the bug in the program - I forgot to flush the buffered output stream), after then I was able to download the same copy of the TTF. - I didn't know about the possibility to put the entire url data to the location bar and try to download it, thanks cor-el.
But it still didn't solve the problem ... the problem was, that the base64 stream was divided to multiple lines, like

Strange that I do the same for images (jpeg, png) and there is no problem with base64 string divided to multiple lines.
But anyway, I'm fine with that.

ADF Faces with Facelets (Menubar)

i using ADF Faces with the jDeveloper (11.1.2) and currently i have a little problem. The menu bar is not usable when i using facelets. It seems to me that the component isn't working.

You could have just explained your problem rather than making us download something.
You have a few issues:
1). You are using Facelets templating to include your content and header - however, content and header are full pages, not fragments - thus you have multiple f:view tags and af:document tags (this is why you have problems with the menu not dropping down). Have a look at ADF templates in the documentation if you'd like to see how ADF templating works.
2) Your menus aren't set to do anything. <af:commandMenuItem text="open" id="cmi1"/> - there is no action/action listener associated with your menu item, so indeed it does nothing - this is what you will see when you fix problem #1

ADF Faces with NetBeans Visual Pack

Hello all,
I have NetBeans 5.5.1 installed with the Visual Pack and I am looking to try out other libraries with it, in particular ADF Faces from Oracle.
Does anyone know how to import the components into the NetBeans Visual Pack? They download from oracle as[b] adf-faces-impl-10_1_3_0_4.jar and not as a complib extension, which NetBeans prefers.
Please if anyones has any experience with getting this to work let me know. Or if you think it can't work let me know as well?

My ipod shows an unhappy face with a website name!

Hi. I had my ipod since nov 8(birthday) and right now when I turn it on it shows an unhappy face with a website saying apple/suppot/ipod.. this was odd this was the first time it happened to me. I turn it on and if u listen closely to the ipod u can here start to run and it shuts off in 3 seconds repeatedly. When i charge it it gets really HOT and when i hold the left button and the middle button(4th generation) and I try disk mode, it happens all over again.. can somebody please tell me what to do.. I was thinking of buying a new battery but I don't know if thats the case. i heard about this corrupt 4generation story but i hope it hasn't affected mine yet.. also on the bottom of my screen it says corrupt file and says run chkdisk... so can somebody please give me answers to my problem, i don't really want to spend another 300$ on another ipod!

Have a look at the ADF Developer's Guide for specific instructions on menus (the ADF Developer's Guide for Forms/4GL Developers has the information in section 19.2).
You can put javascript handlers on the components to get keyboard event handling.

ADF Faces with ADF BC

I'm trying to map a <af:table> to an ADF Business Component. I can retrieve the records and I can also navigate doing Next and Previous, but I cannot do a Delete of a record. Do you know if there's any kind of "work arround" to use ADF Faces with ADF BC to do a delete or update, etc.?
Here is the code, you can notice the: <af:tableSelectOne> tag to put the radio buttons colums to select which one to delete, and you can also notice the action="#{row.markForDeletion}" for the commandbutton to perform the delete.
Jonas Jacobi wrote in his web blog on August 16 that he was going to post some samples for this "work arround" but I think he never posted them.

Any idea when it may be available? Would it be a better idea to implement the table in plain vanilla JSF, and when ADF Faces is ready for ADF BC then do the migration?

i dont think so any drawbacks using Jdeveloper with any database.....its a open product ... You can use it with Sybase, MySQL, Oracle etc etc..

In all honesty, if you want to do ADF development - JDeveloper is the only game in town... yes, I know you can make it work, but it's not going to be productive. If you are talking about ADF Faces only, you may be able to configure the taglibs + etc in Netbeans, but not sure it's going to be fun. If you want to bring ADF Business Components into the mix, it's going to be unworkable.
One thing you could look at doing is to use something like maven - and then use Maven to generate the Netbeans artifacts.
Caveat: I've not done this before and cannot comment on how workable it will be.
Why don't you want to use JDeveloper?

I think I knew one customer who used this combination.
We don't have a specific tutorial that shows you how to use iBatis with ADF Faces, but at the end of the day any of the tutorials we have that shows you how to use POJO or a session facade to front POJO will be applicable to iBatis.

Face detection presents faces with no picture

I have a large Aperture library and have been going through it over time to name the faces, but Aperture keeps presenting me with "faces" that don't have a picture.
This happens in two places, if I've selected a named face and I'm looking at or confirming faces for that name then I get some faces offered to me where there is no picture of the face:
And in the faces view before selecting a name, where you are presented with unnamed faces to name, I get offered faces like this:
For Aperture to show these to me it presumably must have a photo somewhere, so presumably this is something to do with missing thumbnails or previews. I have done a complete repair/rebuild of my library - which had no effect - so I'm stuck.
Has anyone else seen this; any suggestions on how to get these photos to show an image?

It's not that faces doesn't work at all - I can see, name and get suggested faces with the library as it is - so I don't see what I'm going to prove by creating a new library.
I wanted to be sure that Aperture is working correctly, if the library has no issues.
You suggest my faces database might be broken - what does that imply - is no repair possible?
You have tried the built-in repair options - repair library, rebuild library. If you have enough disk space you could try to rebuild the library by importing it into a new library. Add some images with faces to it, before you import your old library. This will recreate the library and the Faces database. I cannot guarantee that this will solve the trouble, however. When I had a similar problem, only manually repairing the library package by replacing the "Faces" database inside from the backup did help, but you have added too many faces since the last working backup to go this way.
