Overheating/Lagging

Not sure what's wrong; but, I have closed all programs running in the background and turned off McAfee yet my computer continues to overheat and shutoff.  While watching videos, the audio flows but the i get about 12 frames a minute.  I even lowered the quality to see if that would work but it remains the same.   Its not an issue with my internet as I have other devices that run smoothly.   Not sure what else I can do to improve my laptop's performance.  Any help is appreciated.

The retina display will use a bit more battery than the non retina display will. What sre you going to school for? I agree with the form factor you are choosing.
A 13" for most folks at college is pretty ideal unless you are majoring in a heavy graphics, photography field os tudy. In that case I would want the 15.4" retina for certain.
I don't think you will have any issues between the retina or the non-retina with over-heating.
I have bought several things over the last few years off the Apple website and have had no issues.
Good luck on your hunt!

hi guys i just FED UP from posting all my bad reviews telling sony that this update couldn't fix the issues from the notification freezing sound, overheating, lag, battery drain, missing everything becausde all my alarms, reminders and ringtines coming from the earpiece not from the loud speaker. i sent an e-mail to sony customer service telling them that my phone became useless and i have no option to do any thing and i wrote all the issues. they replied : a fix for the issues will be included in a new software release that will start rolling out as soon as possible.(without giving any specific date). i repaired my mobile via SUS and still the same i repaired it via pc companion and still the same i did a factory reset and still the same i went to sony service here in egypt and they told me this is a bug that sony should fix we can't do anything. what i am suppose to do now?!!!!!! nokia n95 is older than my mobile with more than 5 years and has no issues at all!!!! i don't care about the warranty i need to downgrade to 4.3 jellybean again, i live in egypt and i need FTF file that suitable for my region i dound alot of FTF files on xda developers and other sites but i couldn't know what is the correct one for me and i also need the steps with links.

Ah..I read through it. I found these instructions:
run SUS and repair your phone
    go to C:\Program Files\Sony Ericcson\Update Service\db\13740270\blob_fs\
Copy the 2 largest files you'll find there to C:\Flashtool\anynameyoulabeled it as
    Run FlashTool
    Click Advanced > Decrypt Files
Source folder : C:\Flashtool\anynameyoulabeled it as
From Files, select all (Click & Ctrl + A) and click -> to move the 2 files to Files to convert
    Click OK
    Wait patiently till it finishes...
I don't have the FlashTool programme. Where do you download this or is it just a folder you created?
Thanks and sorry for the noob questions.

  • My Qosmio G50-129 keeps overheating, extreme lag

i bought a Toshiba qosmio g50-129 and i have had it for about 9-10 months.
Now, every time i play a game, it overheats and i get so much lag that it gets down to 3-5 Frames per second.
This occurs every 1-2 minutes and lasts for 30-45 seconds, it makes a lot of noise and makes my computer lag a lot.
    Is it " broken"?
I have always handled it very carefully, never got virus. i even formated the C: drive to see if it the problem was gone, it was gone for about 5 days, i only downloaded world of warcraft.
    What ive tried:
    Update all drivers.
Closing all other applications, all unnecessary processes.
    Reducing graphics to abseloutely minimum.
It has 512 mb graphic card, nvidia gmt 9600 or smthing.
    4gb ddr3 1k mhz RAM
    2,66GHZ processor. intel core 2 duo t9550

    Hi
What graphic card driver did you use?
You should always use the Toshiba graphic card driver since such driver supports an overheating protection!!
Last week I read on 3rd party page that original nVidia graphic card driver has been removed from nVidia page because it caused a GPU overheating
Hopefully you didnt use the graphic card driver from nVidia page
    Second question;
    Do you use latest BIOS?
    If not, please update this!!!

  • Qosmio Q50 - game lag - is it overheating?

    Hi all,
I took a break from playing games for a few months to concentrate on my studies. I started playing them again recently, but after about 10 minutes the fans become really loud (probably working at their full power) and the game lags to the extent that it is unplayable. The fans then calm down and the game plays normally again for another 5 minutes and then the same process occurs.
    The process:
1-> Launch game and play for about 10 minutes
2-> The fans become very loud and the game lags greatly lasting around 1 minutes
3-> The fans calm down and the game plays smoothly
4-> After about 5 minutes we go back to step 2
I didn't used to experience this problem, and I do not know why I am suddenly experiencing it. Is my laptop overheating? Why would the game lag when the fans are working at there hardest and not when they are working quietly? Wouldn't it make more sense that the laptop would run smoother when the fans are working harder because the system should be cooler?
Is there anything I could do to fix this?

    >Why would the game lag when the fans are working at there hardest and not when they are working quietly?
Fans work faster and harder because of the higher temperature.
The CPU and GPU would be clogged down to reduce the heat dissipation
What does this means? This means that both chips would run slower and this could affect game performance.
Is it more clear for you? I recommend reading some threads here regarding this theme

  • Macbook Pro Overheating and Lagging

    Hi.
About 2 weeks ago my macbook pro began lagging a lot. At first I thought it was my flash player, since it was lagging videos and flash sites on every browser, but then I realized it was lagging on programs and applications as well, such as Skype and Photobooth.
I called apple support twice, and after helping me with some memory issues and some update issues, the lag still persisted.
I visited an apple store today and brought my laptop to the genius bar. It wasn't laggy at the genius bar, although maybe it simply hadn't overheated in time (I didn't think it was overheating until after I returned home).
They formated my laptop and I thought that would fix the problem but it didn't!
It lags like crazy when I run a website or photobooth or anything, and I noticed the laptop gets REALLY hot really fast. I'm not sure if it's overheating for sure, but I would like some more suggestions before I take a second trip to the apple store (which is far from me).
    Thanks!

for lagging problem, you can solve at Disk Utilitty ( repair disk permittion)
for averheating, you can try to install Gfxstatus( googling, its freeware). Use this aplication to monitoring overheating issue,we can control booth of fan.to minimize heat.
    good luck.

Hellomy problem is this, I have a HP Pavilion dv4-1225dx (S / N: [Personal Information Removed] P / N: NB200UA # ABA) and when I start to play (Warcraft 3) 5-15 minutes after you start the game. my computer starts to heat (makes a sound like a jet engine xD) and the game becomes very slowI have tried to solve this problem: closing process and updating the video card driver (Intel (R) 4 Series Express Chipset Family) and there is not improvementThe overheating problem also occurs when watching videos on youtube or when I open an application for a long time (FLASH APP)I am colombian and my english is not very good, however, I hope you understand my problemi tried get help on the forums in spanish, but there was no responseplease help

    Hi,
Your machine is NOT a gaming machine therefore we (I'm not a HP employee) don't expect it could play that game. You may want to read few comments down here:

  • Having trouble with kernal_task, fan, overheating, and lag issues with my Macbook Pro. What should I do?

I've had this problem with my Macbook Pro for the past few months. I am starting to become increasing dissatisfied with this product since it's less than even a year old and going through so many problems. I've taken at least 10 trips to the Apple Genius Bar in the past year.
    I've had issues with
    1) erratic trackpad
    2) wifi connection timeouts
    3) kernal_task taking up 300% of my CPU, my fan become crazy and just having my laptop lag to the point where I can't even use it.
I sent in my laptop for repairs last week again and they replaced my logic board and some other things. I recieved my laptop back yesterday, but I'm finding the same exact problem is happening again this morning. I still have warranty and set up another appointment for a few days... but the amount of trips I've taken is really starting to irritate me and my problem still isn't solved. What should I do? Is there another way to solve this or should I just keep going back to Genius Bar...
I regret buying this laptop. =\ It was so expensive but yet has so many problems. I've never had to deal with anything this cumbersome with my past few laptops.

If you've taken it back for the same problems over and over again, I suggest that you start asking for a replacement. Ensure that you've backed everything up to an ext HD and removed your personal data and information. IIRC, repeating problems warrant a replacement.

  • Yesterday for the first time that I can remember that I ran into massive lags on a 720p video I was watching on a website, was my Macbook overheating?

I'd owned my Macbook for about a year and it's a Macbook 2009 mid model 2.13ghz and I ran into a weird bug yesterday. I had Xat chatroom open which is a flash chatroom and Cinemassacre Angry Video Game Nerd video open yesterday and I heard my fan running loud and non-stop. While I was watching the video the video was showing up like still images instead of in motion. Does that mean my Macbook was overheating if it was turning Video Motion into still images? I shut down my Macbook and started it back up. I hope its not linked to my ssd harddrive. Also, this is the first time I think I ran into this bug. When I'm laying in bed I have my Macbook resting on a dresser desk like a flat piece of wood because I think thats better for ventilation than it would be to just laying on my bed. I might have had my Macbook on for 5-7 hours with nosleep(a program to stop the macbook from sleeping) on. Could that have caused some problems?

Always make sure the ventialation slots are never covered otherwise it can overheat.

  • Win7 Client got mouse lag with roaming profiles

    Hello!
I got several clients, served by a Win2008r2 AD. Those clients supposed to have roaming profiles. Now if I enable them, there is a mouse lag, like the pointer is always in delay, also if you click, you notice that it takes longer than
    normal.
If I logon with a local profile, none of that problem occurs.
    No event logs
No change when use a fresh/new profile either
    No rootkit/virus etc.
    No overheating the hardware etc.
Does someone have an idea where I could look?
How I could diagnose a problem if I have GPO's interfering?
    Thanks
    Roger

    Hi,
are your users potentially running multiple different OS versions?
Do you use custom mouse drivers on some of your hardware?
A possibility I see is mouse configuration information in the userprofile. if that information does not match what is expected, such issues can occur.
If the issue occurs, verify the mouse settings from control panel.

  • Screen goes wacky after possible overheating

I recently updated my phone to iOS 8.2 (I didn't skip any versions, I was just lagging ~2 months behind on downloading 8.2). Soon after (though I'm not sure it's related) -- within a week -- my phone got really...wonky. I have a YouTube/video link to showcase my issue. It seems to happen after several minutes of use. I will then set it down for several minutes and it works fine again.
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9WNWURn5UXQ
I was using the GPS for directions on vacation and it would get really crazy on me and I'd place it in front of the vent blasting air conditioning and it would quickly become responsive again. Either I looked like a loony putting my phone in front of the vent and it happened to "come to"...or it may be an overheating issue. However, when I leave my phone in the car on a hot day and it "overheats" it displays a message warning about temperature and will not respond or work until it cools. I have not been receiving any sort of message since having these issues.
The phone has been kept in an Otterbox since day 1 and there was no "event" that seemed to cause this issue (no drops, water exposure, extreme temps, etc.). It was a very humid day and it was in my pocket while I worked out with some noticeable sweat on the screen (with screen protector), but it wasn't until ~10 hours later in the day sitting in my room with no apparent cause that it got freaky on me.
Does anyone have experience with a similar issue or recognize this? I don't have Apple Care, I got the phone in 11/2014, and I don't have an Apple Store near me. I feel like once it's diagnosed I could go from there...but I really don't even know how to research the issue.

Well, IBM/Lenovo was replacing motherboards in T4x/R5x series, no questions asked, within warranty, which was three years standard for most units at the time.
However, experience has shown that most of the T4x units suffer this problem as a result of physical strain on the chassis, namely holding the laptop with one hand with the LCD open. That's why one has to handle these units carefully, and buy them from someone whose user patterns they know.
To put it this way: I own several units that belong to the series deemed to be problematic because of the GPU isssue, and they're all on 24/7 without a peep. This list includes T41 (ATi Radeon 7500) as well as T42p and R50p (both with ATi FireGl 2).  All of these are out of warranty, but have been acquired from original owners with known user habits. For this reason alone I've paid a premium price for each and every one of them, although none could be deemed perfect in any other respect. Caveat emptor applies. No eBay-originated T4x/R5x machines in this house, unless accompanied by IBM/Lenovo factory warranty.
Furthermore, if you start researching any laptop model (apart from possibly ToughBooks) on the Web, you'll find out that every single one of them has some type of a design flaw, some are just scarier than the others.
Good luck with whatever you choose to do.

  • Bootcamp overheating/freezing and quitting programs.

I'm having a constant issue with my MacBook Pro 13" intel core 2 duo processor blah blah blah.  I have partitioned the HDD to put bootcamp on it cause, let's face it, compared to the other bad excuses of computers (pc's) I have owned and played on, this computer is superior.  Well I take that back.  I seem to be having an overheating issue.  At least I think it is.  90+c.  I've read on other sites that this is normal (WHAT??? That's extremely hot so to say that's normal is a falacy) and that I should expect this (seriously?).  Anyway all complaining aside, my problem lies with the fact that apps freeze and inevitably quit in bootcamp.  I'm not sure why this is considering the ones that do it mostly are not graphic intense nor do they use much CPU.
I'm not even sure if this is hardware related or that the heat is really doing something to it (which in my case I would definitely believe the heat is affecting it a lot more than anything else but what do I know?  90c isn't hot at all for a machine /sarcasm).  I would blame the apps except its more than one which is too coincidental.  I don't even get any error reports or anything.  They just lag out, freeze and quit.  No ifs ands or buts.  The worst part is I update my drivers and my graphics driver BSOD's everytime I run a flash (YouTube vids are flash right?) vid.  I have Windows set in basic mode and very minimal things running (updater and obviously bootcamp but that's usually it) when I'm using these apps.  Games are what is doing it it seems.  I set graphics low to see if that fixes it.  Nope.
I guess what I want to know is, after all this skimming through many pages and not finding any answers, could someone please help me?  If not on the crashing then at least on the drivers and heat issue.  I really mean it when I say 90c is not a safe temp even if they say it is.  With my technical experience (I'm no pro but I know a thing or two) a normal temp when running simple apps should be around 56c max.
Thank you in advance for any helpful information you might have.  I hope to be enlightened.

  • Apple iMac overheating or busted?

I have a 2.8GHZ C2D iMac from Mid 2008. I have been running Windows 7 via bootcamp fairly extensively. This morning I was on my bootcamp partition and the screen suddenly turned completely white. The computer was completely unresponsive, so I turned it off. A minute or two later, I turned it back on. It powered on fine, the start up chime sounded, but then it immediately and repeatedly sounded until I turned the computer off. I was worried, so I powered it down and unplugged it. At this point, I had to leave for work.
At first, I thought I had fried the graphics card. Now I think it just overheated. I used the computer a ton yesterday (almost all day), but it was off overnight and only on for an hour or so before it did this.
    Any thoughts?

Pax, have you find out how to fix it yet? I have the EXACT same problem. I run windows 7 extensively and the computer get very hot. The first sign would be the IMAC starts to lag. I tried to restart but when the white screen comes back on it's stay there for about 5 mins+, then there's a folder with ? mark starting to flash.
Anyone knows how to fix this?

  • Unavoidable lag in After Effects

After Effects CS6 is experiencing tremendous lag for me on 2 computers. It makes it very difficult and time-consuming to get work done at all.
Both of my computers are iMacs - the first one is the 2010 model with Snow Leopard installed, 4gb of RAM; the second is the latest model (just purchased) with Mavericks installed, 8gb of RAM. For both iMacs, it only takes a very small amount of footage, effects, etc. to get it to start slowing down. I usually work on the newer one for all work-related projects, but if I'm working on something as simple as a 5 minute long .mov with no effects applied to it, I have to keep the RAM preview at quarter quality and still have to wait around 10-15 seconds for it to render a single frame. Then I have to cut down my work time to just an hour or two to prevent my machine from overheating itself.
I often like to use the paint effect to add details to my projects. I've noticed that on my new iMac, applying about 30 paint strokes on a white solid and then waiting for about a minute will cause After Effects to bring up the error message "unable to allocate memory", so I have to shut the program down. None of my other programs do this. I've used everything from Photoshop to Maya to even Minecraft with little to no RAM trouble whatsoever, but After Effects is different. It's as if it has zero tolerance for even the slightest hint of using up memory.

I updated to 11.0.4 as suggested. So far I have not noticed a great change in the render speed, but I'll keep testing it out to see what it can handle.
The paint engine in After Effects being dated is strange to me because it didn't always lag the way it does now. On my same computer about a year ago I made an empty composition (2000x1200) in which I used over 1,000 paint strokes for a single frame for 5 frames, and only on the fifth frame did it START to lag like it does now. It just started "acting up" a few months ago and has never changed back.
16 gbs of RAM may be ideal for using After Effects properly, but even so - a crisp, brand new iMac with 8 gbs should at least work decently. But for me, it works worse than my older computer.

  • Premiere Pro is lagging on my brand new computer.

    My Stats are
    Intel Core i7 (4th Gen) 4720HQ / 2.6 GHz
    16 gig ram DDR3L SDRAM
    NVIDIA GeForce GTX 860M - 4 GB GDDR5 SDRAM
    Cache L3 6MB
    2TB internal HDD
    Editing 4k 29 fps mp4 running at 60,000 kbps
I just bought a brand new laptop that was supposedly able to edit 4K video with Premiere Pro CS6. It is an Acer Aspire V15 Nitro Black Edition with the above stated stats.
I bought a laptop because I need to do editing in more than one location and was told that I was going to be able to get away without having a desktop by using this computer, yet the program continues to lag significantly.
    Any suggestions???

...I agree with Bill....I have the same laptop as him and upgraded the memory and drives like he did to achieve good performance. You machine has a better CPU and GPU than ours. As I have seen my laptop go over 20 GB of system memory use on certain complex timelines, I would suggest adding more memory...16GB these days is a little marginal...Bill and I have 24GB and if you can max it out at 32GB, that would be the best. Whoops....just saw your specs and it says maximum memory is 16GB in two slots only.....I'm not sure if only 16GB will hamper 4K editing or not...you can monitor memory use with "task manager" to see if it maxes out, ( make sure your memory settings are correct in PPro "preferences" ).
If you have the M.2 slot , using  the XP941 would be a HUGE speed improvement. PPro needs two separate drives ,( unless using the XP941 ), to work properly in most cases. Using Crucial M550 SSDs are a good choice...they offer similar performance to the Samsung 850 Pro series at a lower price. Any single spinning hard drive will be a bottleneck with 4K...and most other footage. A 5400rpm drive makes a good paperweight, or, missile to be hurled at your TV screen !! Some newer laptops offer various storage configurations....check and see what yours are. Again, just saw someone from Acer telling a customer that your M.2 slot is limited to SATA III speed and is NOT PCI. In that case, the high speed XP 941 would be out, and you would have to use an M.2 SATA III SSD in that slot AND a second SATA III SSD, ( 2.5 inch ) in the other slot. One to be a boot drive with Windows OS and pagefile and programs....the other with all media, project files, cache files, previews, etc. You can experiment putting cache files on boot drive,or, previews, too, because of the high transfer speed of the SATA III SSDs.
Check out B&H or New Egg for deals on those SSDs, being careful to get the EXACT correct size M.2 SATA SSD for your particular slot. Your performance should increase greatly.....the single spinning slow HDD is the root of all evil !!...banish it !!
Bill is also correct about safely overclocking the GPU to achieve better performance. I use the free "MSI Afterburner" utility to overclock the memory clock to 903MHz over the native frequency, bringing the total to 2907 MHz and I tweak the core clock just a little, up 30 MHz. When exporting a complex timeline with many CUDA accelerated effects, this overclock has reduced my exporting time as much as 25%. There is NO overheating....with a different program I could probably increase the memory clock even more, but, this is good enough.
One thing to note...Eric Bowen here on the forum has shown in his testing that the newer Creative Cloud versions of PPro are much better at handling 4K than CS6, or, other previous versions. I know I experienced a noticeable improvement with the newer version on other codecs as well.
    Good Luck !
