Overlapping events display in Ical 4

Hi - I'm getting erratic displays of events since upgrading ical. Old behaviour was separate events with the same time into a new box - now it overlaps and hides the other event. Any way to fix this?
Also - is there a way to display time in 15 min increments in day view?
Thanks

I totally agree. This drives me insane. Or rather, it is the sole reason why I am trialling a range of other alternatives instead of iCal.
The current behaviour appears to assume that if there is an overlap, you would always want to correct it so it does not matter if it is unusable in the meantime. Frequently, I need to keep track of other activities that are running parallel to my own appointments, which are recorded in other calendars and should be displayed side-by-side with my appointments while both being readable. iCal makes this completely unworkable.
Please please please Apple, fix this, at least as an optional preference. It's grossly broken.

  • Events added in iCal don't display in Google Calender

I'm using my google address for iCal as I don't have a MobileMe account.
Events added in Google Calender display in iCal, but events added to this account in iCal don't display in Google Calender. I have tried subscribing to my Google Calender in iCal, but the address isn't recognized by iCal.
I have even tried deleting and re-adding my Google Calender, but still no joy.
Are the calenders I am using in iCal and Google the same calender, or are they actually different calenders with the same username? Someone help me sync the **** calenders!

I want my iCal events from my HOME calendar to display in my google calendar.
I DO NOT want to move my iCal events to my google calendar.  I have way too many.  So, why won't my iCal events show up on my google calendar??  My google events show up on my iCal. It's a SYNC. They should be the same.
I'm sorry my answer to Clint is not what you want.
iCal and Google on their own do not do what you want.
There are/were some third party add-ins that worked in the way you describe that were mainly developed before Google Calendar had CalDAV integration.

  • ICal Lion makes it very hard to read overlapping events

iCal Lion makes it very hard to read overlapping events: often one can only easily read one of them. How can we get the interface in iCal for Snow Leopard and before when they were placed size by size rather than on top, and thus obliterated.

Use Terminal.app to turn on the iCal Debug Menu -
    defaults write com.apple.iCal IncludeDebugMenu 1
Then in iCal go to the debug menu > Top Sekret (sic) > Uncheck "use iPad style event layout."

  • Unreadable overlapping events in iCal

I want to have events start at the same time. This sometimes results in ugly, unreadable overlapping events in weekly and daily views. Are overlapping, readable events possible?

I can tell you my solution, as I had the same exact (Jan Feb 2009) problem.
I work for a web development firm and we were playing around with an ICS auto-generator. That is a web app that auto generates an iCal (ics) file so that one could place it on a web page as a link, then someone could click it and the event would auto-place in their iCal (or Outlook, etc.) application. We tried it with event X (which worked as we thought). But...
The entry was the cause of my crazy overlap, as when I removed it my iCal went back to normal. So...
If you've recently clicked on something on the web that populated your iCal - REMOVE IT! We're back to the drawing board (and no, we did not deploy it publicly).

  • ICal 7.0 (Mavericks) - overlapping events view

In Mavericks, iCal 7.0, I noticed that when two events are in overlapping times, you no longer see them literally overlapping, but instead off to the side of each other. This is annoying, because there's less text visible, and so I can't read both events. Even when you click on one, you don't see the whole listing. You have to double click the event to read it. Anyone know of a fix to revert to visually overlapping events?

    Hi,
Calendar Groups are but not on iCloud or other CalDAV calendar servers (I don't think they ever have). It works in the "On My Mac" section in Calendar.

  • Background events cover overlapping events that are in the foreground.

Background events cover overlapping events that are in the foreground.
When I have 2 overlapping events, clicking on one to bring it to the foreground keeps the text of the background event visable and obfuscates the froeground text.
    Anyone else seeing this?

I'm not familiar with the manner in which TimeLog creates its vCal records in iCal, though I've seen what may be similar problems involving iSync with the records in iCal which are automatically created by the Address Book. Of a set of 27 records, for example - all of which were created by entering a contact's birthday in their Address Book record, and all of which appear identical in iCal - only three would ever synchronize.
Because all of them synchronize properly with The Missing Sync, which replaces iSync and the iSync Palm Conduit for synchronizing Palm devices, I confident that the problem is not with the Address Book or with iCal, but rather, with iSync itself. In addition to reproducable problems with iSync itself and with the iSync Palm Conduit, there are clearly some problems with the underlying Sync Services mechanism.
Sync Services is a complex technology, which baffles even developers at times. A recent undocumented change to it under Mac OS X 10.4.3, for example, modifies the push-pull mechanism for groups of changed and unchanged records in such a way that if any unchanged records are associated with changed records in a specific group, the unchanged records may be strippped away - and therefore deleted - during a synchronization event. That is obviously not supposed to happen. Three changed and two unchanged records in a group of five should remain intact: the two unchanged records should not be deleted, but reportedly are under some circumstances.

  • Repeating events display all wrong when I print

I've recently begun using iCal after years as a big fan of Now Up to Date, because I didn't like how NUTD printed my calendars. Now, however, I have a similar problem with iCal. Many of my events are repeating. When I print in month view, the event displays as "Ben's Bir....EPEATING]" The word repeating takes up useful space in my calendar. How can I hide or delete it?

Sorry, I just saw your post from April. The only way I was ever able to resolve this problem was by editing each event. Kind of a pain!

  • I was deleting particular events in my iCal but now all of the events in that category have gone from iCloud and all of my devices.  How do I get them back?

How do I restore events in my iCal and iCloud?  I was deleting particular events that weren't relevant to that week and then all of the events in that category have disappeared.  I want them back.  How do I do this?

did you ever get an answer?  The same thing just happened to me!

  • How do I get rid of event details in iCal in iOS?

I'm trying to learn how to get rid of event details in iCal on my iPhone. With the event itself "edit" comes up when I touch the item. For event details, however, the "edit" option does not appear.

Not quite sure what you mean by "details", but after touching Edit for the event, touch the lines with the name and location and a cursor shows with the keyboard to edit those.
Note that you won't be able to edit Exchange synced calendars.
Also note that "iCal" is the OS X app.  The iOS app on your iPhone is "Calendar."

  • Is there a way to get an alarm for my events for the iCal on the iPhone 4?

Is there a way to get an alarm for my events for the iCal on the iPhone 4?

    Greetings,
See page 113 of the iPhone 4 user manual: http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/iphone_user_guide.pdf
When you add an event to the Calendar.app of the iPhone 4 there is an "Alert" option which should give you the desired result.
    Cheers.

  • How do I delete duplicate events in my iCal?

Using SyncMate to sync my calendar and contacts from my Droid X to my iMac (MAC Office doesn't work since I upgraded to Lion).  Seemed successful.  However, I now have duplicate events in my iCal.  How can I delete the duplicate events?

    Hello Linda,
Duplicate calendar entries can definitely clutter up iCal.  I found an article that has specifically addresses duplicate birthday entries in iCal.  You can find the steps under section titled "7. Clean up birthdays and use the Birthday Calendar" in the following article:

  • Not able to edit event names in iCal

Since upgrading to Snow Leopard, I am not able to edit event names in iCal once they are created. I am able to edit all other items in the event, but not name. I have tried double clicking, using the inspector, etc. to no avail. Any ideas?

I tried getting rid of duplicates in FontBook. I tried deleteing the iCal.plist file and restarting my mac. Nothing works. I can not edit any entry in any way except to drag it to a new place. I also can't open iCal Preferences. I have iCal 4.0.1 - is that the current version?

  • Overlapping characters displayed in spool for dunning in thai language

    Hi Experts,
Our requirement is to create a dunning form for Thailand(displayed in thai language).
We have created a thai oriented printer(Thl1).We have also created a smart style and the font is helvetica(in order to display thai characters).
We have a problem when the spool is generated. The characters in the spool(both english and thai) appear overlapped.
What can be the reason for this?
My hunch is that since we are using helvetica font the spool is not generated properly.(ie spool cannot take helvetica font)
Since dunning is a sap standard program we cannot directly convert to otf format instead of generating a spool.
This problem has been bugging us for a long time.
Can any of the sap mates please suggest a solution for this?
