Overlays stick on screen

When I make adjustments in the timeline, the timecode (and other) overlays seems to just stick on the screen and never disappear. Anyone else have this problem? Tried searching for this but cannot even find a topic.
I am using a PowerMac G5 and an iMac G5. Both are 10.4.6 and Motion has been updated to 2.0.1.
I have had this problem on at least a couple of computers. I have an academic license and a consumer license copy and both of my machines have this issue.

Do tool tips in other applications stick? How about your Dock, does it sometimes slide halfway on the screen and get stuck? Or do Dock tool tips like application names or folder contents sometimes stick?
These are OS issues that seem to be related to how the OS talks to the display card. You might try searching the Tiger forum, tough to say if you'll find an adequate answer. I see this sticky tool tip in the Finder but no other applications.

  • Headphone Jack sticking and screen turning on

I bought a sim free palm pre (non plus!) a month or so ago from handtec UK and now the sound intermittently doesnt work. its like the headphone jack is sticking which ive seen is common but when there is no sound the screen randomly turns on like i pressed the unlock button. So i think its a dodgy connection on the slider because when i blow in the slider/headphone jack it fixes it for a bit then it comes back, which is annoying because it drains my battery quicker.
    Any ideas?
P.S i spoke to someone on palm live chat and they said to run webos doctor, (i dont think its software tho) but i thought id try it anyway so when i entered the serial number it said its invalid!!!!! Then i discovered theres another sticker underneath the sticker with the imei and serial numbers on the box which says its a movistar phone. When i tried this serial number to download webos doctor it said for movistar and i dont want to use this incase it locks the phone to that network :/
So im stuck as to whether to try and get the phone fixed or see if theres an easy fix but i just dont know what to do

I think you are correct, I would think it is the headphone jack connector. You can try some compressed air in a can in the jack hole, or maybe a little contact cleaner that has some very light lubricant in it to try and free up the micro switch in the connector. The exercise the switch by quickly inserting and removing the headphone jacks plug. I you do not have any luck wit this process you would be forced to get a repair or replacement.

  • Overlay shows blank screen on 6800GT?

I have never been successful with overlays. I'm using ForceWare 84.12 on GF 6800GT. Using Media Player Classic to playback any kind of video files. If I set to playback with Overlay, I will get only blank screen on the single monitor I have. Every other playback mode works fine - system default, VMR7, VMR9 etc, except Overlay where I got nothing. There is no complain or error message popup for selecting Overlay though. But I just don't know how to get my video playback appear on Overlay settings.
    Any help?

Video overlay has nothing to do with codec. It's a technique graphics card use to organize full-motion video content into a frame buffer, then feed it to GPU's RAMDAC, and to send it to the computer screen. The good about video overlay is it doesn't require CPU processing power (if graphics card support it). If this frame buffer is being fetched by VMR (DirectX), then certain processing power will be needed.
NVidia cards surely support it. But somehow it doesn't really work out what I wanted it to be on my system.
Driver could be a big suspect, but I am using a full WHQL compliant ForceWare driver.
Or it could be something very wrong with my OS

  • Notification bubbles stick on screen

    Hi there,
I've got a problem with Notification Center in Mac OS X 10.8.3 that popped up just recently:
Notification just stick on the screen after I click on them. The clicked button stays pressed, nothing else happens. I cannot dismiss these notifications other than logging out and logging in back again.
This is a screenshot of the typical situation:
Any idea how I can fix this?
The menu bar holds only Apple supplied items but MenuCalendarClock iCal and DropBox.
    Thanks in advance,
    Mark

Try trashing the Finder preferences file.
The file is in Users / ~ / Library / Preferences. This is the hidden Library, not the one at the root level.
In Finder, hold the Optiion key down and click on Go in the menu bar. There, select Library. Preferences is in that folder.
The file you want is com.apple.finder.plist
    Trash that file.

  • Brightside, turn off overlay on lock screen photo

I set a photo I like as my lock screen, unfortunately this phone does not do a slide show of favorite PHOTOS like my LG Voyager.
Turned off the ERI, have no banner loaded, and turned off the CLOCK on the display settings control, and the darned thing overlays a darkening (translucent but grey) bar across the photo where the ERI would be located, and another MASSIVE one where the clock would be.  Any way to turn that off?

if your only issue is with notifications (not sure about texts), this seems like the easiest to fix, in terms of blurred screen; because you DO NOT have to have your notifications display on the lockscreen. You SHOULD be able to have them display in the notifications center swipe down; but so long as they don't have to display on the lockscreen there should be no reason for the iOS to blur the background.
there IS an option to remove an app TOTALLY from notifications, if necessary.
so maybe the only question is: what is more important: your notifications showing up on the lockscreen or your lockscreen image.
to me, i don't care where my notifications display. certainly don't need them on my lockscreen.
my main blur issue is NOT with notifications; but with audio playback; because iOS thinks it has to display the audio controls on the lockscreen, which blurs the wallpaper. But, when I hit PAUSE, I can get the screen to go back to normal (using by toggling screen ON/OFF). hopefully there is a way to remove that from displaying on the lockscreen, since the control center has the same audio controls and is also accessible from the lockscreen.
    hope this helps.

  • IOS 8.1 Landscape View Sticks After Screen Lock

On iOS 8.1 on my iPhone 5, I've noticed a screen rotation bug. When my screen is in landscape mode and I click the screen off, it will not go back to portrait mode when I press the home key to reawaken the screen. The screen lights back up in the landscape mode it was last in, but when I move my phone into portrait mode, it doesn't rotate into that mode. It remains stuck in landscape mode until I exit the app I am using and relaunch it. I've seen this in several apps. It's most common for me when using the Messages app. The bug is nothing serious, but it can get a little annoying. Has anyone else noticed this problem?

I did a hard reset. Seems to be working...for now...

  • Some Preferences not sticking ie screen saver jump back to random after setting a particular screen saver

I set a specific screen saver in the preferences file, after a reboot, random savers box is always checked. Also when I move items to the side bar they stay there until a start-up after which they have disappeared.
    Thx  AL

I think that it is something wrong with kernel and graphic drivers but i'm not able to solve it from the beginning of using of Arch by me.
I'm not so sure this issue is software-related only because in my case it seems the laptop screen enters power-saving mode (10-min timeout) on its own without any events logged (as shown by dmesg) so my next thought was OK, I'm going to get rid of this issue disabling the screen power-saving timeout in the BIOS and set it to never power down or something like that and from then on managing power mode manually; ie: when I want to power down I will just use systemctl suspend/hibernate which work fine ... problem is: there are no related options in my BIOS for such timeout.
The only timeouts I have are in /etc/systemd/logind.conf set to 30min (#IdleActionSec) (commented) by default so these are not in effect because the screens goes blank after 10m which is less than the (default) 30m in logind. Maybe setting loggind to 9m (un-commented) to catch the event before the machine-default one ?
    IdleActionSec=9min
    IdleAction=suspend
Will check it and report back.

  • Windows sticking to screen

I don't know if this is just something that happends due to the new 'Retina Display' on the new MBP's but i'm finding when i'm on safari for a while, when i get out of it leaves an outline of the safari window screen on the desktop... Is this normal? and if not how can i fix it?

  • Screen colours inverted, also flickers back to normal

    Model: HP15-N096EA
When the laptop is turned on the screen colurs are inverted i.e. blue becomes orange, white becomes black etc. at times it flickers back to normal colours i.e blue shows as blue etc.
I have checked magnifers invert colours isn't turned on but when I do turn it on the inverted colours switch to normal colours obviously. There is also a vertical shimmer like every other vertical line is missing or phases in and out.
I have booted into safe mode to see if its a driver issue but the colours are still inverted, I've booted into the BIOS and again the colours are inverted and just to cover all bases I booted a live DVD of Mint Linux 17.1 and the legendary green of the mint distro was a lovely lilac. I've also tried high contrast i.e. Left ALt + left Shift + Print Screen.
My feeling is its the graphic chip or the monitor and I'm hedging more towards the monitor. Tomorrow I'll do a screengrab to see how that comes out and will also connect to an external monitor to see if the flicker and shimmer is still present.
Considering this is literally a month and 6 days out of guarantee it pretty bad, I would have expected a bit longer from a laptop before it started failing.
Update from Yesterday: I did a screengrab from the HP using the snipping tool in windows 7, this showed the colours inverted i.e. negative, I saved that screengrab to a USB stick and opened it up on my Mac, the image showed correctly i.e. not as a negative.
This is the image that is displayed on the laptop, there is no colour inversion, none of the graphics settings appear incorrectly set, I did actually set all settings back to defaults.
This is the screengrab from the laptop as it displays from another computer, which, in my case was my Mac. The screen appears to be displaying correctly, hence the screengrab image below but for some reason it is displaying an inverted image - Its like there is an overlay on the screen.
    Could the inverter be faulty?

    Hi @chubby_ninja ,
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have looked into your issue about your HP Pavilion 15-n096ea Notebook and issues with the graphics.  If it shows while connected to a different monitor then it is not the graphic card, it is the LCD screen or the cable.
I would replace this as it is the least expensive. Display panel cable 732066-001 Page 97 of your manual. Or you could take the Notebook to a shop so they could test each of the cable and LCD screen.

  • Proximity sensor sticks

My iPhone's proximity sensor has all of a sudden started sticking to "screen off" even after I remove it from my ear. It's getting very annoying, especially when calling companies with those menu driven phone answering systems. Anyway, does anyone else have the same problem?, and does anyone know how to fix it?
    Thank  You..

Basic troubleshooting steps clearly outlined in the User Guide are restart, reset, restore from backup, restore as new device.
Have you tried ALL the troubleshooting steps?  If you have and you're still having problems, then you'll need to bring your phone into Apple for evaluation and possible exchange.

  • Image/File overlay mask

I am a commerical photographer and the one feature that CaptureOne has, that Lightroom does not, is an image overlay. A TIFF, jpeg or pdf file can be placed on top of your image and the transparent parts will allow your image to show through. The overlay is like a layer. You are able to drag it around, resize and adjust it's transparency.
Almost every photoshoot now relies on being able to see masks that the Art Director has created in InDesign to be overlayed on the screen so we can make sure the shot is working in their layout. This is more than just getting the dimensions right, there are design elements and blocks of copy to work around. CaptureOne has had this feature for a long time and during a tethered session it has become absolutely vital. OnOne software promises layers in Lightroom soon, but no one really knows how this will work. As new images appear, they should come up with the image overlay automatically visible.
There a LOT of commerical shooters looking to use Lightroom instead of CaptureOne now that tethering has become much more mature, but the overlay really is THAT important. I plan to shoot into Lightroom, but had CaptureOne watch the folder so when i need to see the overlay it is available, but this is definitely a hassle.
    Thank you,
    greg

There is a poor mans trick to test your photo within a page layout without leaving lightroom. in the print module add a custom watermark to your page and there use a full page png file with transparency to add your layout over your photo. Works just like a real layer would and there is even some cool thing about this trick. When printing contact sheets the overlay stays and you'll get a page showing you a nice overview of which of your photos works best with the layout.  But I add my vote to the feature request. Real overlays in tethering and maybe as a adjustable overlay in Develop would be really helpfull.

  • Pro book is acting strange..rainbow ball under cursor sticks and a bar code takes over ....have to force close

My pro book is actn strange......the cursor and rainbow ball sticks on screens and a bar code takes over...everything freezes and I have to force close but it seems to be happening more frequently and getting worse......can anyone help please..getting really worried

What do you mean by "a bar code takes over?"  If your cursor is degenerating into something that looks like a bar code, you have very serious problems.  Possibly hardware problems.  Try running Apple Hardware Test.  If that comes up with problems, contact Apple for service.  If not, it doesn't necessarily mean there aren't any hardware issues, but you'll need to move on to other possible cures.  Test in safe mode (hold down the shift key at startup) and in a different user account and report the results here.  If you continue having problems in both those situations, try reinstalling the system.

  • When I open PSCS5 it doesn't look like a stand alone function. It looks like an overlay.

I am new to Ps and have open it for the first time and it looks like an overlay to my screen is this normal. Ithought it would look like a stand alone function much like when I go in to lightroom4. When I watch some of the tutorials it does seem like a stand alone. I guess I am missing something really really basic. Sorry for dumb question.

Here you go managed to get a screen shot. As you can see this is what the screen looks like when I have PS open. It is not in its own box like for example lightroom as per below image where light room is in its own box if you know what I mean.

  • App audio plays while Kindle Fire screen is locked

I am hoping someone has found a solution to this issue:
If I put my Kindle Fire to sleep using the power button, when I wake it back up, the app's audio begins playback while the screen is still locked.
All the other soft keys on the device control the app and the audio as expected.
As far as I can tell, it seems that when the Event.ACTIVATE fires, the app runs and Amazon just tosses a screen-lock overlay on top. My app is running at full frame rate (and playing audio) underneath the screen lock, but there are no events I can listen for to tell when the unlock happens.
I'm probably missing something, but shouldn't there be an event type in the NativeApplication class that we can listen for? Everything I've tried so far doesn't work.
I haven't submitted this to Amazon yet, but it seems likely to be rejected. Any ideas appreciated!

Yeah, this is a problem I had to solve about a year ago. Android's guidelines suggest you should pause your game on a DEACTIVATE event and then require user input, like a tap on a pause screen, before resuming your app. So that's what I ended up doing. I built a semi-transparent pause screen that overlays the entire screen and app, and then unpauses on the next tap. And I also had to handle resizing the pause screen when the app auto-orients.
For audio I'd originally built a sound class that listened to ACTIVATE and DEACTIVATE events and would pause themselves accordingly, but I ended up tying their pause/unpause mechanism to the app's pause resume.
Oh, and you will probably want to build a lock parameter into your pause method, so that in some situations the only code that can unpause the app is the code that passes the same lock/unlock string. Otherwise, you might find your app resuming when it wasn't suppose to.
Hope that helps. Oh, and testers with the Samsung App Store sometimes think they are designers and sometimes may reject your app because they say the pause screen should have gone away automatically. Don't listen to them. Try filing a petition explaining your app is following Android guidelines or just resubmit the app and hope for a different tester. And one of the first tests a Samsung tester does is power off and on the screen and see if your app can handle it correctly. So yeah, they are tougher than Amazon.
But warning. The worst is Google Play. If one app goofs up and inadvertently violates one of their guidelines they may just ban your entire account - nevermind that you may have a 100 other apps published through that account. And they will tell you nothing. Not the name of the app that caused the violation, or even what the violation was - just a "please read our guidelines again." And it could be something as seemingly innocuous as key word stuffing in the apps description - but you won't know what caused it. Sorry, now I'm venting a little. But if you need to publish a large number of apps consider finding a way to spread them out over multiple accounts if you can to protect yourself.
