Overlays to control chapters - like Flash- Is this possible?
I realize this is a tall order, but I thought I'd post in hopes there's some Quicktime wizard out there who may know if these are possible:
I'd like to have clickable overlays on my Quicktime video that control which chapter a user goes to. So the video will play up to a certain point and then the user can choose which chapter they go to next.
If this is possible, can this Quicktime then be exported to an flv file that keeps the functionality?
I think perhaps you misread Tangier's statement...
QuickTime has a boatload of capability built right in. What is missing is an authoring tool *similar to Flash* to give content creators the ability to leverage that capability.
Adobe once provided something in GoLive before they bought Macromedia, and Totally Hip gave us the ill-supported and massively overpriced LiveStage Pro. But apart from that, nobody did much with developing a good sprite editor and programmer for QuickTime because you could just do it all with a Flash track instead. Heck, even Apple used Flash tracks for interactivity in QuickTime movies. Then along came QT 7.1.3 that broke flash tracks, *without warning*.
Some years ago, I visited a Hong Kong web site that was presenting television news. The site crashed my browser when I tried to watch video, because they were using a combination of Windows Media, a custom ActiveX control, and a very complicated bit of JavaScript to present a news clip with audio in two languages and subtitles in three. Had they used QuickTime instead, all of that metadata (the three languages of subtitles) and the two audio channels and the video track could all have been handled natively by QuickTime alone.
The power is there. What we need is (a) some reasonable assurance from Apple that it won't all be abandoned in QuickTime X, and (b) some good tools for making use of it.

Please help! We got a used Mac Mini and we don't have the former owner's password, so we can't install anything like flash player. Does anyone know how to get around this? I don't know how to wipe the hard drive, and the support online doesn't seem to work.
As posted previously:
Reinstall OS X without erasing the drive
Do the following:
1. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
2. If the drive is OK then quit DU and return to the installer. Proceed with reinstalling OS X. Note that the Snow Leopard installer will not erase your drive or disturb your files. After installing a fresh copy of OS X the installer will move your Home folder, third-party applications, support items, and network preferences into the newly installed system.
If installing Leopard the process is similar in some respects. If you wish to begin anew then after selecting the target disk click on the Options button and select the Erase and Install option then click on the OK button. To install over an existing system do the following:
How to Perform an Archive and Install
An Archive and Install will NOT erase your hard drive, but you must have sufficient free space for a second OS X installation which could be from 3-9 GBs depending upon the version of OS X and selected installation options. The free space requirement is over and above normal free space requirements which should be at least 6-10 GBs. Read all the linked references carefully before proceeding.
1. Be sure to use Disk Utility first to repair the disk before performing the Archive and Install.
Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger, Leopard or Snow Leopard.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. Now restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
2. Do not proceed with an Archive and Install if DU reports errors it cannot fix. In that case use Disk Warrior and/or TechTool Pro to repair the hard drive. If neither can repair the drive, then you will have to erase the drive and reinstall from scratch.
3. Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When you reach the screen to select a destination drive click once on the destination drive then click on the Option button. Select the Archive and Install option. You have an option to preserve users and network preferences. Only select this option if you are sure you have no corrupted files in your user accounts. Otherwise leave this option unchecked. Click on the OK button and continue with the OS X Installation.
4. Upon completion of the Archive and Install you will have a Previous System Folder in the root directory. You should retain the PSF until you are sure you do not need to manually transfer any items from the PSF to your newly installed system.
5. After moving any items you want to keep from the PSF you should delete it. You can back it up if you prefer, but you must delete it from the hard drive.
6. You can now download a Combo Updater directly from Apple's download site to update your new system to the desired version as well as install any security or other updates. You can also do this using Software Update. -
Overlay live video feed with flash animation
I am using a webcam to allow people see themselves on a screen. I would like to overlay the video with some flash animation (simple graphics of planes, cars etc.) going across the screen.
How do I achieve this?Hi IEC,
Having just finished an app that has two ROI overlay layers ontop of a
static image, I might be able to give you some ideas. All of the below
assumes that you know basic Labview programming.
- I have not used IMAQ yet, and so am not sure what front panel control
type will render the live video images. But, I'm not sure that matters.
- If you can place an XY Graph over your video display on the front panel then we have it made
- stretch the size of the XY Graph so that the plot area matches the size and placement of your video image panel
- make the plot area of the XY graph transparent.
- you can also make the border of the XY graph transparent
- if you want a scale for your video then use the scale of the XY Graph to show the scale of your video images
- then it's just a matter of defining the XY points of the ROIs that you want to plot on the XY Graph
- if you want multiple ROIs then each can be a different color by making them different channels to the XY Graph
- if you just want a few straight lines, and want to be able to move
the lines around in realtime then you can get a little fancier:
- turn on the cursor legend for the XY Graph
- create two cursors for each line that
you need (a start point cursor, and an end point cursor)
- set the color and cursor style as desired
- in your main loop:
- use the XY Graph "crsr list" property to get the XY positions of the various cursors
- those cursor XY positions become
points of line segments fed to the XY Graph to plot (draws a line
between the cursors)
- In realtime, as you move the cursors, the line segments move accordingly
In my particular app I had to provide a mechanism for the user to
create ovals, rectangles, polygons and freehand ROIs. Then I also
needed mechanisms to rotate, pan or expand/compress the ROIs. This is a
bit more challenging, but very do-able.
Hope that helps,

"Show Transform Controls" Equivalent in Flash CS4? + Other Questions
Hi everyone.
I've been using Adobe Flash CS3 & CS4, and I still find it ridiculously hard to navigate around that Program sometimes, mainly when I have to deal with a Pre-made Flash website that needs Editing.
Allot of people Label layers, Symbols, etc... poorly, so it's hard to find your way around.
I would like to know if these is any Equivalent of "Show Transform Controls" (from Adobe Photoshop), in Adobe Flash CS4.
I have loads of Layers to deal with, and the only way I can get to edit the Layer, is by double clicking on them, then I go to it's timeline and settings.
Most of the times I can't even see some of these Layers/Buttons, as they appear invisible on the Stage/Preview Screen.
How can I more easily Work with my Layers in Flash CS4?
It would be allot easier, if I could click on the Layer in the Pallet, and see an outline of where it is on the Stage.
Or if I could edit the settings of a Layer, by clicking something in the Layers Palette.
I am also trying to figure out how I can change the color of an image to Black/White, I only know how to do this with the Motion Tween Option, that gradually changes the color over those given seconds. I don't want an animation, just permanent color change.
Also when I am moving a Object in one layer,
when I exit and view a different layer, I see that the "Shared" object also moved there too, which I do not want.
Is there any way to unlink these by chance?
Is any of this possible?
Please reply soon someone.
Thanks,
-Andrew[Note]: "View layer as outlines" Does not help me to see where those "Invisible" layers are.

How to access the Overlay Creator control in JavaScript.
Hi friends,
How can i access the overlay creator controls. like slideshow, Image Sequence.
Thank you.
[ Nav ]We have not exposed access to the overlay creator controls via scripting interfaces. Any responses you see elsewhere are using unpublished mechanisms that we do not support in any way.
Having said that, I'm definitely interested in exposing a supported way of doing this. Would you mind sharing your scenario? If you don't want to post it in this thread, send me a private message. Thanks!

Sorry folks - don't mean to take my frustrations out on the innocent but I am sick of always having to run in circles trying to get what my creative cloud membership pays for. I finally got a new laptop and I'm stoked because it's the first one I've owned that will be able to run Adobe stuff without batting an eye (okay within reason - it's still a laptop! lol!). Anyways, the problem is Windows and some other programs along with Adobe. I've had to reinstall everything like four times now. But if I can get Windows to behave and stay stable - I can work on some delayed projects.
So I got to reinstall CC and after 4 times this searching and hunting for apps is really getting on my nerves. First, why can't Adobe put the real Flash Player in with the regular download on the CC login? I know we got the plug in with IE but I can't use it with Acrobat Pro. I'm embedding vids and stuff in PDF's and the only thing that's worked so far is that actual player. Flash Builder along with Flash Professional don't help either. About a week ago, I tracked the real "Flash Player" down but this time - I can't find it to save my life. Every time I get to click on the DOWNLOAD THE LATEST VERSION OF FLASH PLAYER link - it sends me back to a CC login page or back to the IE instructions. I've only logged into my account ...uh...about 25 times now if I counted all the open tabs right.
Okay so I get tired of searching all over for the Flash Player I need and decide to jump over to Adobe Story. I've got some other aps downloading and those will probably finish in about six to eight hours. But Story Plus isn't a download and it's included in the CC membership to. Now that program I liked. I had a bunch of projects saved and it has taken me a bit to get back over there to check it out but guess what.
I log in and it says I'm on the free version and my projects are gone. The more I search, the more Adobe insists I get the Story CC Plus with my membership - but that's not what I've got on my screen when I log in. *sigh*
I checked my membership status just in case - yes, I'm coming up for my renewal next month but there's no problems with my status and my bill shows current. So now I'm getting really frustrated. I see a nice little link that says get Premium support with your CC membership. Oh yeah? Click! They lied again. No matter how hard I look, the links only send me in circles (I"m bookmarking this page otherwise it will vanish into the nether too! )
So now I get to go pull my backups for my script that is no longer on Story Plus. Wonderful. I'm not going to go look at membership again. I'm really close to cancelling as it is - so I'm gonna go chill out and wait for stuff to download.Flash Player is free, and you might ask for help in Flash Player

Function returning control via CType. Is this risk-free?
I want an easy way to get a TabPage's child (user)control without writing CType() functions everywhere.
For this I created a function that returns the control via CType:
Private Function ChildIRCControl() As IRCControl
Return CType(Me.TabControl1.TabPages(Me.TabControl1.SelectedIndex).Controls(1), IRCControl)
End Function
Now, is this risk-free to do or are there any chances that it will bug or don't work in some cases?
Thanks
//Visual Vincent
EDIT:
Now to rephrase and explain my badly written question:
The user is able to create new tabs, and for each new tab a IRCControl (which is a UserControl) is added to the tab's controlcollection.
Now there's no problem doing the above. BUT since the tabs are created programmatically, I cannot get the control inside the tabpage without some kind of cast function.
Example of creating a new tab:
Private Sub CreateNewTab()
Dim IRCc As New IRCControl 'This is a normal UserControl.
Me.TabControl1.TabPages.Add("New Tab")
Me.TabControl1.TabPages(Me.TabControl1.SelectedIndex).Controls.Add(<a control that has nothing to do with this question>)
Me.TabControl1.TabPages(Me.TabControl1.SelectedIndex).Controls.Add(IRCc)
End Sub
Now to access the UserControl in the currently selected tab I need some kind of Cast function. I use CType for this:
CType(Me.TabControl1.TabPages(Me.TabControl1.SelectedIndex).Controls(1), IRCControl)
But typing this long CType function in every If statement needed and every Loop used takes time, and is horrible to read.
Now, will it work just like the normal CType if I access it like this instead?
Private Function ChildIRCControl() As IRCControl 'The UserControl
Return CType(Me.TabControl1.TabPages(Me.TabControl1.SelectedIndex).Controls(1), IRCControl)
End Function
Private Sub ModifyTextBox() 'Example
ChildIRCControl().TextBox1.Text = "Hello World!"
End Sub
Hope this explanation is better for you guys, and sorry for not bringing all this up before.
I hope your day has been better than yesterday, but that it's worse than tomorrow...
Please mark as answer if I solved your problem. :)Now, is this risk-free to do or are there any chances that it will bug or don't work in some cases?
To make it safe you would subclass the Tab and TabPage controls and make this method a function of the new Tab. Then, that class would include code to ensure that only your custom tab pages were added, and that for each added tab page the first
control was the correct type - presumably creating it automatically or from a value passed to it in the constructor. That control is then a property of the tab page, and there is no need to use the Controls collection or do any type conversion.
The problem is that you actually have no control over the order of items added into the Controls array if you are using the designer. Even if you are sure that each tab page has one of the controls, it might not be at index 1.
You could scan the tab page Controls collection, but if there are several of that control type then you also need a way to know which one you really want. That's what your code should be checking. If you correctly identify the control in
the collection there is no need for CType - it's already the correct type. You can check the type without trying to do the conversion by using TypeOf. See
https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/0ec5kw18.aspx
Thanks for the answer.
I guess I could have added this to my initial question too: I'm creating the TabPages and UserControls programmatically and that's why I need to use some kind of Cast function. There are two controls in each tabpage, and they're added in this order:
Private Sub <Some kind of sub>()
Dim IRCc As New IRCControl 'The UserControl
<The new TabPage>.Controls.Add(<The other control>)
<The new TabPage>.Controls.Add(IRCc)
End Sub
So the only thing I wanted to know was if I could do this:
If ChildIRCControl().TextBox1.Text = "blahablaha"
ChildIRCControl().RichTextBox1.Text = "blabla"
End If
Instead of writing the long CType, or any other cast function all the time,
If CType(Me.TabControl1.TabPages(Me.TabControl1.SelectedIndex).Controls(1), IRCControl).TextBox1.Text = "blahablaha" Then
CType(Me.TabControl1.TabPages(Me.TabControl1.SelectedIndex).Controls(1), IRCControl).RichTextBox1.Text = " "blabla"
End If
as it's both a readability and writability nightmare.
And at last I apologize for the badly explaining question that I wrote.
I hope your day has been better than yesterday, but that it's worse than tomorrow...
Please mark as answer if I solved your problem. :) -

Overlaying adobe air sdk in flash builder 4.6
After overlaying adobe air sdk in flash builder 4.6 i am getting this error in my flex mobile project "Could not resolve <s:ViewNavigatorApplication> to a component implementation.". I have followed the steps mentioned on this link "http://rubberduckygames.com/how-to-overlay-abode-air-sdk-over-flex-sdk/". Can anyone please suggest me what i need to do in order to get this work.
Finally Figure it out..
geo = new Geolocation();
geo.addEventListener(GeolocationEvent.UPDATE, onLocationUpdate);
has to be executed before checking if it is muted.
geo.addEventListener(GeolocationEvent.UPDATE, onLocationUpdate);
Is what requests permissions from the phone to use the gps.
Hope this saves someone alot of time.

How do I make my ActiveX Control behave like a LabVIEW native control?
When a user drops my ActiveX control onto a Front Panel and then views the Diagram, I would like him to see a terminal outputting a specific property value instead of the reference number. In short, I don't want him to have to go to the extra step of creating a Property Node to access the property value.

You can make it drop a prewired property node when they drop the control.
It isn't hard, but there are a few steps involved.
To do this, make a VI that has your control configured the way you want,
and on the diagram have it wired to a property node with the correct
selection and direction. You should also make an icon that will show
up in the palette. Save this VI somewhere like user.lib. Now
you need to edit the palettes and add this as a Merge VI.
Open the Controls palette and click on the ... button. If using LV5,
choose Edit Controls and Functions Palette from the Edit menu.
Once editing the palettes, make your own palette set and give it a name.
Now choose a place in the palettes to add the .vi file. Right click and
Insert and Custom Control(s)... This will bring up a file dialog that
is filtering for .ctl files. Change the filter to allow all files.
Select the .vi file that you saved earlier.
To give this to others, you may want to make this a bit differently.
You can place the VI and .mnu file into user.lib and a few other places
and it will automatically be added to the LV palettes.
Anyway, once the VI is available in the palettes, it will merge the VI
contents into the VI, exactly as the 3D graph does.

Is this possible with flash?
I have a client that needs a CDrom with data update
capabilities.
I've never have done something similar, but I thought some
like this could
(or not!) be done:
> The application would create a folder on the user's PC
(wich could be
> assigned by him, or into a default location)
> Would check a URL for updates, and download them into
the previously
> created folder
> the it would read the contents from that updated folder
Is this possible? One one the many problems would be to have
the flash app
remembering the 'Updates Folder' path.
Any help would be great.
Thanks in advance,
Jorge Olinohi,
this is possible only with a help of third party application
like mdm zinc or flashjester or mprojector. flash itself doesnot
has this capability as it is made for web mainly.

How to control the step motor in this situation?
I have a PHI TRIFT3 ToF-SIMS instrument. The instrument comes with a default
software. However, the software don't offer fine step motor control. I want to control
the step motor using Labview.
I got some info from a Japanese engineer of the company.
The step motor controller is connect to a card in ISA slot. In the default software, I
can send command like D2000(distance 2000) and A100(acceleration 100) to "port 2"
to control the motor. I have a manual of the commands.
However, I don't know how to send command from Labview. Here is a joysticker
connected to COM1, COM2 is used for other vacuum control. The joysticker can also
control the motor..Here are some reply from the company about the control.
"We do not use special driver for control the step motor.
This is just sending the serial command via RS232C per command instruction I
sent you before. The only difference is, to simplify the hardware, we just talk to data acq
module(wave form card) via PAHOST card(installed in ISA bus slot of the PC)
to passthru the RS232C command to stepper motor control unit.
If you try to talk to step motor. just send the RS command from Labview
platform. (of course need to connect the step motor controller from PC,
default TRIFT PC does not have a spare COM channel, might be need to add
serial etension card or add the computer for Labview control)
"TRIFT PC passthru the RS232 command throught ISA bus to PHI data
acquisition box to stepper motor control.
Joystick handled by default software , convert to stage movement
command X and Y then send thru to ISA. "
I tried to use the Basic Serial Write and Read.vi to send command to COM1 but I always
get an error"1073807246 ocurred at property node(arg 1) in VISA configure Serial prot(Instr).vi->
Basic Serial Write and Read.vi Possible reason: VISA: the resource is valid, but VISA cannot access
it." I think this happens because the default software is also open and trying to control COM1.
What should I do to accomplish the step motor control? Thanks a lotJust to start from scratch, have you verified that you can do basic communication with your serial port, ie successfully perform a loopback test? Please let me know, and we will go from there.

Hi

code and I just see a flash embed?

With all honesty.
I have been using flash ever since its first version (flash
2). Big time flash fan,
working with it literally on daily basis for over 8 years.
There are some projects I
will never consider flash for. I don't like the fact the you
can't easily copy content
(copy paste), well you can live text selectable but it does
not look as neat within
all the other flash content. You can't actually bookmark part
of it and return just to
that part later on. Even tho we do have bookmarking ability
(way to fake it), you still
need to load the entire file all over in order to open that
bookmark section.
I don't like flash on sites that are meant to be information
providing. Take for instance
university, cooking recipe sites or any where you should be
able to flip back and forth
exploring multiple links with easy and quick download.
In some cases, regardless my long sentiment to flash, I will
strongly advice against flash
usage. Some sites are so much nicer done in classic css and
simply well design images or
beautify photography. So nice in itself that do not need to
be wrapped into flash.
I do like the combo of HTML, CSS and Flash. Sensibly use to
improve the aesthetics, and
because with flash is so easy to created really complex
animation, you can have very great
results accenting your site with small add ons here and
there.
Best example of my long time favorite will be KB Homes.
http://kbhome.2a-archive.com/
Very nice flash menu combine with Java script drop down,
smooth roll over, neat colors and
generally eye pleasing. This is what I consider the best use
of flash.
Now, core of my business is CD presentations and Microsites.
This is when I will use flash
from A to Z. These are not meant to be long lasting. A
Microsite exists for as long as
there is no new product to replace it. Usually lasts for 5
months. There is no need to upgrade
or modify the content. It has to be visually appealing,
dynamic and aggressive to make
good impression of the product you exploring. Take for
instance mobile phones or cars.
Often site like that will compensate for shortcomings or the
fact that product it's simply not
as good as one from the competitors. You can manipulate it by
adding on complex animation
and videos with good sound. These, as I said, are meant to
have short lifespan.
Another type is when client simply want to add on content
himself and does not know much
about Internet, computers or anything for that matter. I have
been working for few architects
and Interior designers. I create CD which dynamically build
gallery based on number of images
in the Cd's folders.
Navigation adjusts to the image size and reposition all the
menus automatically. All they have
to do is add on jpg files into folder, my program makes list
of it and build the presentation.
This is when I find most use for flash and for full flash
made project.

Hi - Re Keynote I'm trying to figure out how to create a music album (as an artist) on USB flash drive, (accessible by both Mac and PC). What I want is a background picture with 'click-buttons' to play each track listed, and play in order (like a cd) - also similar for embedded videos and photos etc. This should all be on the one page.
Is this possible with Keynote, or any other software package for Mac (am using Macbook Pro) ?

Yikes, it sounds like you've been doing a lot of work on this project... Unfortunately, however, this isn't the Adobe Encore forum, but the Acrobat.com forum.
