Overprint preview - default

CS2 - Is it possible to have "overprint" preview on by default?
Regards
Nina Storm

I'm not sure if this is the answer Nina, but I am trying this option from the Help Menu.
Choose either Edit-> Preference-> Display Performance (Windows) or InDesign-> Preferences-> Display Performance (Mac OS), and make sure Preserve Object-Level Display Settings is selected.
Choose View-> Display Performance, and make sure Allow Object-Level Display Settings is selected.
With the Selection tool or Direct Selection tool, select an imported graphic.
Do one of the following:
Select Object > Display Performance, and choose a display setting.
Right-click (Windows) or Control-click (Mac OS) the image, and choose a display setting from the Display Performance submenu.

  • Overprint Preview is on by default

All of a sudden the Overprint Preview is one when I open a document. How do I turn it off by default>  This just started after several years of InDesign work and I can't get it so turn off. Any Ideas?  Thanks. AZturtles

    Hi Peter
Thanks for the response to me question about Overprint Preview in InDesign. The attached screen capture will illustrate what happing with the text. I can toggle on/off with the View>Overprint Preview but it is always on when I open the documents. Does this screen capture help define the problem/
Oh, by the way, InDesign is registered to my wife so perhaps you could answer to [removed by forum host]  She works for Arizona State University and gets the Adobe products cheap but we must register them to her.
    Thanks

  • Is there a way to turn on Proof Colors and Overprint Preview by default?

I prepare graphics mostly for print, so I like to turn on the Proof Colors view and Overprint Preview views. It's a pain to turn these on for each document. Is there a way to make these the default viewing settings in Illustrator CS6?
I tried creating an action to do it, but the Insert Menu Item command in actions causes Illustrator to crash every time, and the help file seems to say that View commands are unavailable to actions. So I'm not sure if that's a bug. Oddly, Photoshop has the very useful File> Scripts> Script Event Manager that let's me turn on Proof Colors (via an action) whenever a document is opened. It works very well. However, Illustrator does not appear to have these options. I found the View> New View options in Illustrator. They let me create a view that turns on Overprint Preview, but absolutely refuse to turn on Proof Colors. So it's the same number of clicks and pointless. Sheesh!
    Thanks!

Not sure about Proof Colours but you can select Overprint Preview in the New Document dialogue.
    Preview Mode > Overprint.

  • Getting overprint preview preference in Adobe Acrobat 9

    Hello,
yesterday I installed the Adobe Acrobat 9 Trial and I tried my plugin.
Does anyone know how to get the overprint preview setting?
In older version of Adobe Acrobat I'm using following code:
    AVAppGetPrefBool(DSAVSettings[prefNumber].m_section, DSAVSettings[prefNumber].m_name, (ASBool)DSAVSettings[prefNumber].m_requiredValue_9);
m_section is "Originals" and m_name is "OverPrintPreview".
In Adobe Acrobat 9 it always returns the default value m_requiredValue_9 which means that the setting can not be found?
Do I have to change the value of m_section or m_name or do I have to use an other method?
    Thanks for your help!

I'm having a problem with securing specific fields. Not sure if that can be done. I have a form that I created in LiveCycle Designer and the forms contains fields that create a basic calculation for example (Qty+Price=Total). I want those fields to be field out by our sales people and I want them to save the form with the info. field in and email to customer as a quote basically, but I don't want the customer to be able to change those numbers, but I do want the customer to fill in other portions of the field. Having a problem doing this cause Acrobat is only letting me secure the whole form and not just portions. Is there a way to only secure portions of a form. Please help ASAP.
    Thank You

  • Overprint preview

I'm using CS2.  Is there a way to get overprint preview to be the default mode for InDesign display?  I'm getting really tired of having to select it every time I launch InDesign.

I doubt you can script it in CS2 because there are no scripting events. In CS3 or later you can set a script to run any time a document opens.
In CS2 you could assign any key command you want and at least avoid the menu.

  • Acrobat 9: Overprint Preview

In v7, the option to view a file in OP Preview was on the main menu bar (Advanced, I think). I could toggle it on and off at will. Convenient.
In v9, the only place I find any OP setting is in Preferences>Page Display. Is this correct?
If so, can I assume Use Overprint Preview>Automatic will toggle on OP Preview when a file has overprinting and not when the file has none? Is this the setting most of you use?
With this setting, can I assume the only way to turn off OP Preview when viewing a file with overprinting is to return to preferences settings?
    Thanks.

You are correct, Overprint Preview > Automatic automatically detects if there is content in the document that requires overprint preview to display it accurately. Changes to the preference should be immediately visible, without having to quit and relaunch. Are you getting different behavior? If so, what OS are you on?
There is one other way to toggle off overprint preview temporarily when it is enabled by the preferences. WIth the Output Preview dialog open, there is a checkbox to turn on/off Simulate Overprinting. This on/off toggling only works while the Output Preview dialog is open.
Color Warnings view in Output Preview should still highlight the objects that are set to overprint. Additionally, you can use Preflight to determine if there is overprinting content in the file. There currently is no message bar or overprint indicator icon.
Also note that, even with the Never setting selected, overprint preview is automatically enabled when the Output Preview dialog is open.
I hope this cleared up your questions?

  • Overprint preview in Adobe Reader

    Hello,
Is there a way to preview colour separations in Adobe Reader (overprint preview). I create Illlustrator files with overprint preview and save as pdf for my customers. When white is on top you can't see the other colours underneath.
Adobe Acrobat is OK with this because it has an option to preview colour seps.
Would appreciate a reply on this as my customers are not happy
    Best Regards

Is there a non-confidential example of this PDF that we could view?

  • Overprint Preview, RGB, Image Resolution Acrobat v9

I recently started using Acrobat 9. There is 2 things I'm looking in V9.
    1- Overprint Preview
2- All image resolutions in a HiRes pdf. I see a custom check profile called "resolution of color & grayscale images is between..." but I want image resolution is ...
3- Flag any RGB images used.
    ThankYou

I'm sorry what I mean if a pdf have 35 images I would to see the image resolution of all of them independently if they are 72 or 600 dpi.

  • Overprint Preview question and another issue...

    Hi...
    CS4, Win XP.
    Overprint Preview question:
The other day i sent a file for printing (poster) in PDF and CS2 formats. For some reason, the printer converted the file to a .tif and then printed. Parts dropped out... Both the PDF and CS2 files looked fine.Description follows:
    1/ Background black
2/ Design element over the black (blue lines to form a wave).
3/ Logo in red and white. Plus a line of text in red. And other text in white.
The white of the logo vanished. The red line of text kind of vanished... printed very faintly and only (i think in parts). Printer tried to do a patch job of printing the line separately and pasting... anyway... to cut a long story short, he wanted the final output in .tif. OK...
So, i converted to tif and sure enough... those parts vanished... did a search here and found the solution - view file in Overprint Preview and then in Attributes, turn off the Overprint Fill... so all well...
So, the question is, why does this happen? And, how, do i know in advance that x or y is likely to cause a problem? I have noticed in Bridge that sometimes, parts of a logo or a line of text does not show... but looks fine in AI or Acrobat... now realise the cause, but not the reason.
    The other issue...
Same black background(s)... placed Photoshop file/s with a transparent background... Prints fine at the printers (various machines and media) ... But on the laserprinter an HP Color Laser Jet CP1510 series, there's a dark patch around the image (the actual file area).
    Again, any ideas?
    Cheers...

    Hi PrepressPro...
Many thanks for your earlier inputs, but not quite sure where you got the idea that i want someone or anyone to play detective... i've understood the Overprint problem... and moved on. If anything, maybe i was just musing and wondering if any particular action turns on "Overprint Fill"...
Or maybe, i was referring to the second question which has not been resolved yet... Quoting it below for easy reference:

To elaborate, the pix above are product shots which have been cut out and placed on a transparent background... The PS file is then placed in AI CS4 with the object option selected to maintain transparency. The transparent area is printing darker on the printer above. But is fine when sent to commerciqal printers...
Attached is a scan of the problem...

  • Quick keyboard shortcut to show Overprint Preview

The old Command+Shift+7 to toggle Overprint Preview doesn't seem to work in Acrobat Pro 9. Is there another way of quickly toggling this function without having to enter Advanced>Print Production>Output Preview?

Wow, guess I need to reinstall Acrobat 8 because it makes for a faster production tool. I thought I was upgrading. Guess I'll never see the logic or reason in the things Adobe does when producing new versions.

  • Modify PDF documents to activate the "overprint preview"  the document opens in Acrobat 9 / X

    Hallo ,
I would like to modify PDF documents that the document automatically activate the “Overprint Preview” option if they opened by using Acrobat Reader, Acrobat Stand. or Acrobat Prof. Version 9 or X.
It is important that it makes no different what is selected at the General Preferences settings (K+STRG)--> Page Display --> “Use Overprint Preview”.
It is possible that the PDF File / Data change the settings to “always” at the General Preferences --> Page Display -->“Use Overprint Preview” settings.
Has anybody a good idea to solve this problem?
    Thanks for our help.
    Ralf

I had the same problem and my solution was to disable the PDF extension that came with Firefox 4 which belongs to another company. I found out that it wast interfering with ReaderX. I unabled it and restarted Firefox. I have had no problems since then. Go to Tools, Add-On and click on Extensions and disable the PDF extension. I hope this helps

  • InDesign crashes when i export a pdf, overprint preview and package

    I am using CS6 on a MacBook Pro. I have version 10.8.5.
I am working on a manual (original file not created by me).
I was trying to pacakge all the files together but it kept crashing. I do not see the blank window some people have been seeing when this happens. I only get the window about letting Apple know about the problem and submitting the problem to Adobe.
Under Preflight all systems are fine, I have the green light.
I checked that paragraph styles, character styles and master pages did not have fonts missing.
I went through all files and noticed some eps's did not have fonts converted to outlines so I made them outlines and relinked them.
I also changed all RGB to CMYK.
I converted the file to an IDML, reopened InDesign. I also resaved the file to a different name.
These did not seem to help unfortunately.
If there is no visible problem, what can one do? At this point I am trying to pdf one page at a time to see if I can pinpoint as to where the issues lies.
InDesign also crashes when exporting a .pdf and when I try to run an overprint preview. So strange..

Well I don't get why this would have been the problem, but I removed the logo that was on the cover and on the back. Since the logo was all vector, I copied it and pasted it into InDesign (so no links). This allowed me to create a .pdf and to package. This logo has been used several times over and over so not sure why this was part of the issue..

  • After saving a PDF with a Spot UV layer, all of the highlights and detail under the spot color are flattened in Overprint Preview. What am I missing here?

I'm attempting to print some business cards with a Spot UV coating. I have a layer above the artwork with a spot color (set to green per the printer's request). Underneath is a logo, essentially a red circle with some highlights and depth. My issue is that, after exporting a PDF, all of the highlights and detail on the red circle disappear in Overprint Preview (it's there when I hide the Spot UV layer, but missing when I hide the Spot Color). What can I do to retain that information?
    Thanks!

Let me know if you need different screen grabs. Thanks in advance.

  • Pixelated images and overprint preview

I have a few images already inserted in a document which are all in CMYK at 300 dpi. When I zoomed in on them, they appeared just like they did in photoshop, nice and clear.
Last night, I started having trouble with the images appearing pixelated when I add them in. I couldn't find any differences in my workflow in bringing them in, which is the strange part. They are all 300dpi. When I placed some images last night, they appeared pixelated when I zoomed in. Also if I chose Place and just clicked one time, they would appear huge, more than the size they were intended to be, which makes me worry the document may not be setup right, but I cannot find anywhere to adjust the dpi of the document. I have it set for Print, 6x9 size but I dont see where you would modify the dpi for the print setting.
I made a flattened psd image which shows up in InDesign's info window as 300 dpi/cmyk but when I add it, it tried to make the image huge. So I used a different method and scaled the image into the area I wanted it and it still looked very pixelated when I zoomed in.
I looked around and turned on the setting overprint preview and the image cleared up. I am about to be placing a lot of images in this document to finish the book so I am trying to get a better idea of what is going on first and make changes to my document if needed. My question is - If the image doesn't display well when overprint preview is off, do I need to worry if it looks good when its turned on?
Pic 1, overprint preview on. Pic 2, overprint preview off.

Yes I understand this. I was just worried because strangely, other images I had placed before I did this one were not behaving in the same way. I had scaled them down, which is the only difference I could find. I was just very concerned thats all. I know it may have been a simple question but I am finishing a huge project and just about to drop a lot of work on prepping the photos for my book, so I wanted to double check the process very carefully to make sure I wasn't about to repeat a mistake somewhere 100x...

  • Making preview default viewer for pdf files

    Hi,
On my macbook I have the preinstalled 'preview' software and I've recently installed Adobe reader. I much prefer using preview for some functions, but since I installed Adobe reader all pdf files automatically open in that program. I've noticed that when I choose the software to open file with Adobe is now listed as 'default'. Does anyone know how to make preview default rather than Adobe reader?

    Hi James,
Chose any PDF file you got already and select it ones ... now get info and a NEW window will open.
Now, somewhere ad the end of this NEW window you will see *Open with* select Preview and select ALL.
    Close the window ...
Now the next time you open a PDF it will be opening with Preview.
    Good luck ...
