Override and replacing Tie class, logic never firing

I'm on Windows2000 Pro, running Oracle 9i and 9ifs (1.1.9).
I am trying to get an example from the Developer's Guide to work. It is the Chapter 17 (Customizing Content Type Behavior), Replacing a Server-side Tie Class, Complete Example (Example 17-31).
I have correctly compiled the java class into the custom_classes directory structure (with subfolders for the package), and I have changed the CLASSPATH to reference the class before repos.jar . I also bounced 9iFS. However, iFS just isn't calling that code (I guess it's still looking in repos.jar for some reason...?), based on my own tests and the java command-line program included in the Developer's Guide.
I have also tried various other things to get the code called and/or to determine whether or not the code is really being called. One thing I tried is to rename and repackage the example code, then update the classobject with the newly named/packaged server bean. Alas, this did not help.
Any suggestions or thoughts?

This morning the computer did not boot, so i went down to apple store and they looked at it and said its a logic board failure and needs replacement worth £350. The tech at apple store gave no explanation, why suddenly, my computer decided not to start at all and said to me it was a logic board failure for no apparent reason and requires replacement. I have maintained the laptop in a pristine condition. Now I feel I have been cheated. This clearly means the product is substandard as a £1100 laptop is not expected to fail in just over a year. My last laptop PC which was worth £450 served me for 4 years before it crashed and lived for another 2 years until I decided to get a mac. This is ridiculous. I don't have apple care at the moment which translates as pay to get it fixed. Anybody in my situation ? I want to sue apple for selling me a substandard good . Any thoughts? Should I go for another pc for £500 because there is no guarantee even after the laptop were fixed by apple for £350 it would last for another year. I need a reliable machine.

My question is that if there was liquid damage why did my MBP stop displaying the battery status right after the battery was changed secondly why didnt the apple verified Service centre tell me that there was liquid damage afterall I paid them the money for diagnosing the problem.
Is there a process i can followup on this problem

Find and replace by text and style

We have a fairly large RH HTML project (300+ topics so far)
most of which have a specific heading in Heading2 style. We want to
change all of these to a style based on Heading2, but not use the
Heading2 style b/c we don't want them to show up in the TOC. I have
created a new style and can obviously open every topic and manually
select and change each one - but I'm hoping that one of your RH
gurus will tell me an easier way. Is there anything comparable to
MS Words Find/Replace that will search the whole project for a
specific word in a specific style?

RoboHelp's Multi-File Find and Replace (in the Tools tab)
should be suitable for this job, and you can control each
occurrence as you choose. (Where this RH utility fails is when your
search string might sit on more than one line, which won't be the
case here.)
You'll run two replacement passes (spaces added to < &
> tags for proper viewing in this forum):
Replace < h2 > with < p class=YourNewStyle >
Replace < /h2 > with < /p >
The < h2 > and < /h2 > strings will never be
split between lines, so RH will catch every one.
BTW, Add me to the list of FAR boosters; it'll let you change
case, change file names, etc., etc., etc. Great tool!

You don't in the condition it's in. You will either have to get the phone replaced by Apple or pay a 3rd party to repair it.

Find and replace a table style

I have about 10 table styles in a document and I want to replace all of them with the #1 table style. Can this be done with Find and Replace?

You'll need to do this for each of the Table formats that need to be replaced.
Let's assume the desired format is "Format A" (a default FM style), and one of the formats to be changed is "Specs 2".
Click in any instance of a Specs 2 table.
In the Table Tag field, pull down and click on [Format A].
Click Commands > Global Update Options:
(*) All Properties
(*) All Tagged [Specs 2]
[Update]
If it works properly, you'll get a dialog:
OK to change all Format B tags to Format A?
[OK]
Additional global updates may be required to clean up any overrides.
Trying this on FM7 at home, it didn't always work. I don't know if newer versions are more stable. Personally, I never do it this way (probably because of prior experience), and I usually just hack the MIF.

What makes you think a replacement "will most likely go bad in the future"? Some have had to go back more than once; many haven't. (And many have not gone in at all.) There are many iBook users out there, happily iBooking away without any knowledge of the iBook Logic Board Repair Extension Program because they've never had a problem.
Get it replaced, free, NOW, and worry about the future when it gets here.

I want to search the given string array and replace with another string array using regex in java
for example,
String news = "If you wish to search for any of these characters, they must be preceded by the character to be interpreted"
String fromValue[] = {"you", "search", "for", "any"}
String toValue[] = {"me", "dont search", "never", "trip"}
so the string "you" needs to be converted to "me" i.e you --> me. Similarly
you --> me
search --> don't search
for --> never
any --> trip
I want a SINGLE Regular Expression with search and replaces and returns a SINGLE String after replacing all.
I don't like to iterate one by one and applying regex for each from and to value. Instead i want to iterate the array and form a SINGLE Regulare expression and use to replace the contents of the Entire String.
One Single regular expression which matches the pattern and solve the issue.
the output should be as:
If me wish to don't search never trip etc...,
Please help me to resolve this.

As stated, no, it can't be done. But that doesn't mean you have to make a separate pass over the input for each word you want to replace. You can employ a regex that matches any word, then use the lower-level Matcher methods to replace the word or not depending on what was matched. Here's an example: import java.util.*;

Overriding and hiding a method.. the difference?

the text says that "...a subclass cannot override methods that are declared static in the superclass. In other words, a subclass cannot override a class method. A subclass can hide a static method in the superclass by declaring a static method in the subclass with the same signature as the static method in the superclass"
what does this mean? i don't see the difference between this overriding and hiding of the methods? is it just the concepts??
what's the difference when i have a non-static method in the superclass overridden by a non-static method in the sub class and when i have a static method hidden by a static method in the subclass?

over-riding means that you declare an implemenation of some method on the current class that over-rides the implemenation inherieted from your superclass. Over-riding the toString method to print customer data would be a good example- the implemenation on the current class will be invoked, instead of the superclass. Because static methods are bound to a class, rather then instance, they can not be over-ridden. Instead, you can only replace that method with a method of same signature and name. Maybe this code makes it more clear:

//the implemenation of MyClass.toString will be
//invoked if it is over-ridden, even though Object.toString
//is being referenced
arg.toString();But, static methods, like Class.method() and SubClass.method(), have no inherieted functionality- they are totally unique methods that simply share the same name. I'm not sure if this explanation makes it clear or not, but the operative point is, there's no functional relationship between static methods.

Overriding or nulling accessibility class metatag (JAWS)

I am trying to disable the AccessibilityImplementation in parent components and allow children components, for example (disable a datagrid's accessibility implementation and allow the labels and text input (from that same datagrid control item renderers), to expose their accessiblity name to jaws).
I was able to do it, and it works perfectly using the monkey patch approach, I copied the source code from mx.controls.Datagrid.as and removed the line 534 [AccessibilityClass(implementation="mx.accessibility.DataGridAccImpl")] and it works as we need. We can also do our own AccessibilityImplementation as we need.
The question is.. can we from an extended class, set to null the accessibilityclass meta tag value

It's just another way to express my reply #2 in this thread.
There's a division of labour between methods and variables. Non-private methods represent the behavior of a type, whereas variables represent implementation and object state none of which should be exposed in a type. And because the purpose of the overriding mechanism is to modify the behaviour of subtypes, overriding really doesn't make sense for variables.
There's a greyzone here though and that concerns so called "properties". Are they behavior or are they state? Well, it's bad encapsulation to expose naked variables in a type so if a variable represents a "property" it should be embedded in a getter/setter pair. This means that "properties" should be represented by methods in the type. The question now is whether a subtype should be able to override and modify a "property" defined by the superttype? Well as a programmer you can prevent that by declaring the "property's" getter/setter methods final.
The conclusion I'm making is that naked variables never belong in a type so making them overridable makes no sense. If a variable represents a "property" it should be exposed via a getter/setter pair. The programmer then can decide whether this "property" should be overridable by declaring the getter/setter pair final or not.

Dumb Q: problem with Find And Replace window in Flash 8

Dear Flash Group,
apologies if this is trivial, it's my first day using Flash.
I downloaded a Flash project from

flash calls into a web service at localhost:8080. I used the
'Find and
Replace' window within Flash Professional 8 to locate the
string
'localhost:8080' and replaced it with plain 'localhost'.
However, when I 'Debug the Movie' (Ctrl-Shift-Enter), it
still tries to
access port 8080! Obsiously, my replace command did not do
what I thought it
would do. I opened the FLA file in a binary editor, and saw 4
more
references to 8080, One if them in 'Properties' of a
WebServicesConnector,
but I cannot figure out how to find the other occurences.
Checking on google, I see lots of people having similar
problems, but no
solutions
Any ideas?

reference?

That's really odd, actually. I'm on these boards every day,
and I've
never heard of this issue. I don't *think* the Find/Replace
dialog visits
panel contents, such as the Component Inspector panel, but I
wouldn't swear
to that.

Well, Flash is a professional IDE, of course. By definition,
if you pay
for something, you have acquired a professional product or
service. I know
what you mean, though. Flash itself rocks, but the Actions
panel can be
glaringly weak. Personally, I use SE|PY to edit ActionScript.

Find and Replace Issue Help Requested.

Hi all. I've been digging around for a couple of days and
can't seem to figure this one out. For starters, I have already
looked at the Regular Expression syntax and tried the MS word
clean-up option, but no luck. We have about 1,500 pages of content.
They are in DNN, so the pages are created dynamically.
Unfortunately, the page content was written in Word and then dumped
in DNN. We are trying to clean up the pages. We are grabbing the
content from Dot Net Nuke and putting it into Dreamweaver 8.0.2.
Then we are manually cleaning out things like:

"urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
and
<P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"
align=left>
We are using the Find and Replace funtion in Dreamweaver to
clean out these commands, but I know from the documentation, there
is an easier way to clean these pages.
Bottom Line: Since the pages are dynamically built, I know I
have to grab the page content and put it in Dreamweaver manually
and then put it back in DNN, but I am trying to find a way (using
Regular Expressions or something) to look for all the little
variances of MSO, <?XML, etc. in a straight shot. I would like
to find a way to use a wild card to look for all tags that have MSO
or Microsoft or ?XML in them and then replace them with a null
value. From what I can tell, the Find would have to use a wildcard
because the advanced find features don't carry what I am looking
for. Something like Find \<?xml * [<-wildcard] to \> to
grab the entire tag. The Find tag command doesn't work because the
tags I need aren't listed. Also, because the content is dynamic, I
can't do a Fins and Replace against the entire site for these
commands, but it would be nice to "Find" all of these items with a
single pass since the "Replace" value is always null.
The wildcard syntax and multiple Find instances are the main
questions. The wildcards seem to be character or space specific.
Sorry for the long explanation - I just don't want to waste
anyone's time typing responses to things I've already tried to do.

Glad that it did the trick. Just to help you understand what
I did,
there are two main sections, as follows:
<\?xml[^>]+>
and
<[^>]+(?=class=Mso)[^>]+>
They are separated by a vertical pipe (|), so they simply act
as
alternatives.
The first one searches for <?xml followed by anything
except a closing
bracket until it reaches the first closing bracket.
The second one is more complex. It begins with this:
<[^>]+
This simply looks for an opening bracket followed by anything
other than
a closing bracket. What makes it more intelligent is the next
bit:
(?=class=Mso)
This does a forward search for "class=Mso". It's then
followed by this
again:
[^>]+>
That finds anything except a closing bracket followed by a
closing bracket.
The bit that you need to experiment with is (?=...). It's
technically
called a "forward lookaround". The effect is that the second
half of the
regex finds <....class=Mso....>.

Find and Replace in RH HTML

After upgrading to RH8, all instances of "em dash" symbols in projects are now appearing incorrectly. When we insert the "em dash" symbol, we always eliminate any spaces before and after the symbol. All projects that have been upgraded to use RH8 now add a space after the symbol, which is incorrect.
I have also installed the RH updates and opened a project that had not been upgraded before the update installs...same problem.
Due to the size of the projects, I have tried using the Find and Replace feature within the HTML view; unfortunately, this did not work.
Has this issue been addressed with Adobe? I ran into a similar issue with the upgrade to RH7, where the HTML coding for em dashes would come through in the design view and final .chm output file. Does anyone know of a Find and Replace feature within RH that will allow me to remove every instance where a space appears after the em dash symbol? I have found the FAR tool but would like to avoid it if possible, as I have read it can corrupt RH files.

There was one other post recently about this but otherwise this problem had gone quiet so I don't know why you are seeing it in a project that was not opened before applying the patches.
So turning to FAR, it is not the program that corrupts files. It is what the user does with it. As we usually say, it can fix a project in minutes and wreck it in seconds. That is because the user has not thought about what the search might find. For example, you might search for "class" thinking about your topic content but of course FAR works a code level so it will remove all your style classes as well. That is where the corruption comes in, not the software itself. It's rather like blaming the car for the crash.
If you back up first, there is nothing to lose.
