Overriding access restriction in router

I have three wired computers hooked into a WRT54G2.  One computer I want to restrict internet access.  User can go into Network Magic basic and hit the refresh key and it will override the router settings.  Any suggestions??

Peanuts, thank you for the response.  The user does not have access to the password for the router, he doesn't access the router, the settings in the router appear to be changed by hitting the refresh button in Network Magic.  The use of the Network Magic password does not apply when just accessing the Map screen and that is where the refresh button is located.  Any other suggestions would be appreciated.  thanks.

  • WRT54G v6 Access Restrictions killing router connection

I've posted this question elsewhere, but an answer never came up, so I'm hoping to find a solution here
I have a number of sites I'm looking to block on my home network.  I set four access restriction policies (since you're limited on how many each policy can block), and it worked just fine.  The sites were blocked and everything went well for about an hour (give or take, I can't recall).  Then, my internet connection became erratic and started continually dropping.
The problem was that it wasn't my actual internet connection, but the router doing what appeared to be like a power-off refresh - the Power light would start blinking rapidly, and then it would either eventually reconnect on its own, or I'd have to reset the router.  No matter what, though, after enabling the access restrictions, I couldn't maintain a stable connection for very long. I know that these restrictions are the issue, because if I turned them off, it was fine.. and if I turn them back on, it acts up again. I downloaded the latest firmware, but that did not help.
The router didn't feel exceptionally hot (as I thought that might've been it), but the system allows for 10 policies to be enabled, so I don't think 4 should kill the whole system. I didn't see any type of other options in the access restriction policy panel that might be causing some type of internet connection interference, but I could be wrong. I'd really love to have these blocks in place, but I'd also love to be able to still access the internet at the same time
Any help or passed-on knowledge of what's going on would be extremely appreciated

It seems defective. But you can try reflashing the firmware and then holding the reset button for 30seconds after that. If that doesn't work then do a 30-30-30 reset. You might just have to use Open Dns if those suggestions don't fix the issue.
I don't work for Cisco. I'm just here to help.

  • Customizing blocking screen by Access Restriction of Linksys router

    Hi,
I've recently deployed the Access Restriction of my linksys rounter and it works fine. When I try visiting the website which I've set to be blocked, a screen with the message  "Website blocked by Linksys Firewall" is shown.
May I know how I can change this screen to another screen or change the message to another message (say something like "the website has expired") instead?
Thanks a lot for your kind help!
    Best Regards,
    Michael.

That would take a change to the firmware...not possible with the stock firmware. If your router supports 3rd party firmware (don't know as you didn't provide a model) you may be able to work around it, but it would take some fairly in-depth Linux know how.....

  • WRT160N V3 router ignores MAC address Access Restrictions, Filtering policies

I have added a list of 2 MAC addresses in the Access Restrictions for the access policy #1 and enabled it with Allow policy.  But one of my PC's MAC address which is not on the list of access policy #1 still can access the internet and ping websites.  I tried to add a Deny policy in 2nd policy for this PC MAC address and then it can not ping websites anymore.
The problem is why my PC with a MAC address not on the list of Allow Policy #1 can access the internet? It seems the router Access Restrictions don't work well.

I've already added Deny rule (blocking all LAN IPs) to all computers accessing my network in Access Restrictions Policy #1 but I leave one PC left to access the router web configuration.
Then in Acess Restrictions Policy #2, I added an Allow rule to one of my PC's MAC addresses (and its IP too) but the PC can not access internet and ping websites. It looks like the allow rule in policy #2 doesn't overwrite the Deny rule in Policy #1.

  • WRT54GX v2 : Access restrictions rules fails

    Hi,
I have updated the router (WRT54GX v2) with the last firmware "Firmware Version: 2.00.20".
I have setup some website URL to block in the access restrictions screen.
I tried several samples like :
    http://www.xxxx.com, http://*.xxxxx.com, www.xxxxx.com
Only one URL has been blocked one time. I tried again for 2nd time to access to the same website and then all url were allowed.
Currently all URLs blocked can be accessed.
Is there some people which have the same problem ?
    Thanks

Thanks for the suggestion.  I've tried it but no success. I have learned something interesting though:
With this hardware/firmware Wrtg54c v2.0 / Firmware 1.00.7 you cannot have 2 enabled ALLOW rules that apply to the same MAC address. If you try then ALL internet access for that device is blocked.
I guess that if you allow one time slot it aUtomatically denies everything else, and the deny overrides any second Allow you create. Like I say - this is a guess because in there is no documentation.
It is possible to have an ADD and a DENY rule for one device.  ie you can ALLOW internet access  6am to 11pm  and have a second rule to DENY access between 5 - 6 pm.  This seem to work for my limited testing.
I did want to test one rule applying to IP address range and another to a MAC address - and then I discovered that when you use the 'Assign Static IP' function - that also does not work. ie - give it a MAC address and tell the DHCP function to always assign it a specific IP has no effect.  Whether the IP is in the normal DHCP range or outside of it seems to make no difference.
Verily I say unto you "This firmware is a buggy".

  • Access restrictions - Any documentation or suggestions?

I want set up fairly simple internet access rules - but it's just not working. I cant find any documentation beyond the very basics in the manual. Can someone help me with the logic behind defining overlapping Access Restriction rules?
I'm assuming the restrictions work in the same way for all the simple wireless routers - but for the record I have a WRT54GC V2, firmware 1.00.7. I think that's the latest - cant find any upgrades to the firmware.
I can set up simple rules - allow/restrict a pc or group by MAC or IP address. That is documented, and easy. The problem comes when I try to combine rules.
Say I want a PC to have internet access 9 - 5, Mon to Fri, but allow facebook only between 1 - 2 pm on those days.
I set up the first rule to Allow 9 - 5 by MAC address and it works. I set up another rule for the same MAC address to Allow 1 -2pm , but block facebook.com. During that period (1 - 2pm) internet access works, and Facebook delivers a black screen "Blocked by Linksys Router" - As expected.
But at 2.01pm when the second rule is no longer active - all internet access stops. All sites just time out.
I've also tried defining 3 rules:  9am to 1pm, 1 - 2, and 2 -5pm, but that has the same result. All pages fail to load.
I've been playing with this for a while trying global DENY rules and adding ALLOW exceptions, changing the order I create the rules, etc - but I just cant make it work.
Any suggestions? am I missing something simple? or is it just a feature that does not work?
    Thanks.

  • E3000 Deny Access Restrictions not releasing

I've just recently purchased a Cisco E3000 router.
I've set up 3 Access Restriction - Deny policies using IP addresses.  Unless someone has a better idea I found I needed two policies to Deny from late at night (say 10.00pm) till first thing the next morning.  As this spans two days I needed a Deny policy from 10pm till midnight, and another for the next day from midnight till say 7.00am.
Now to my problem, the laptops get 'Deny'ed exactly as they should within a few minutes of the set time, problem is they do not reconnect the next morning after the Deny time has passed.
Cisco help wasn't any help, and wanted me to use Cisco Connect.  However the overly simplistic options it provides are next to useless for me.   The web option has more flexibility, if only it'd work.
Do I need to need to force an Allow to override the Deny but establishing a fifth policy just for this purpose?  Don't know if this'll work but I've got no other ideas.
    All help greatly appreciated

Anyhow, I'll answer my own question based on one nights experience.
Made the 5th (and last, don't know why all the reviews say you can have 10 policies, there are only 5) an Allow policy for the previously restricted IP addresses with the parameters of Allow everyday for 24 hours.
Last night the Deny policies as the first in the list worked correctly and the two restricted laptops had access back again at the set time.  So on a test of one night it's all working correctly.
The trick was the inclusion of a universal Allow policy as the last policy to force a release of the Deny policies.  I'll post again if it doesn't work at some point in the future.

  • WRT54G2 and WRT54G locks-up (freezes) when blocking web sites using Access Restrictions

I am convinced that a few Linksys routers such as WRT54G2 and WRT54G have a major issue when blocking web sites using Access Restrictions (Internet Access Policy). After a few hours of internet access by 15 wired users the Linksys locks-up and blocks all internet web access. The only solution is to restart the power on the router.
We are currently using a Linksys WRT54G2 v1 (firmware 1.0.04). We upgraded the WRT54G2 v1 firmware to the latest 1.0.04 version which did not resolve the issue.  NOTE: We were previosuly using a a Linksys WRT54G v1.1 (firmware 4.21.1) until the power supply blew a week after we started blocking web sites using Access Restrictions (Internet Access Policy).
Basically, we have a T1 internet connection and a hub connected to the Linksys router. We are trying to block several web sites such as facebook, myspace, etc. for 15 wired users. We do not use wireless connections.
This is the 2nd time it happened with 2 different models.
    Please help ASAP.
    Thank you,
    Lance
(Mod note: Edited post. Some parts off topic.. Thanks!)

Also,  you have already upgrade/re-flash the firmware of your Linksys Router you need to reset and reconfigure your router from scratch. Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds...Release the reset button...Unplug the power cable from your router, wait for 30 seconds and re-connect the power cable...Now re-configure your router...

  • Access restrictions timing off by 1 hour

I don't know if anyone else is experiencing this problem.  I have set access restrictions on my WRT610N router and they execute an hour earlier than set.
I checked the time zone settings, the system clock and all seem correct. I have a rule that is supposed to turn off access to the Internet at 11:55pm. However, the rule gets executed at 10:55pm.
This was happening on my first WRT610N which was also dropping network connections. So, I returned that unit and got a replacement.
The new unit does not drop connections but has the same timing problem.  The only solution I have found is to change the time zone to the next one that is 1 hour behind my time zone.
Please let me know if anyone else has experienced this same situation.

My ISP is on the same town as I am. The information they are supplying appears to be correct as my WRT54G uses the same information and its rules execute properly.
I think there is a problem with the WRT610N. My solution is temporary I hope that Linksys will fix this problem.

  • WRTU54G-TM Slow Setup Page and HTML Error on Access Restrictions Page

I have a WRTU54G-TM Wireless Router.  It has v1.00.21 firmware and I have done a reset with no solution.  Everything seems to work, except the setup pages load very, very, very slow.  Also in Internet explorer I get an HTML error on the access restrictions page. Resets don't help.  The router did not have this issue until about a month ago that I recall.  I can see on the access restrictions page the gray shading is all lined up except at the bottom on the page, like ther is some sort of issue in the html within the router.
One more problem, after I reset the router the saved config file I made would not change the default settings back, I had an older saved config file also, it would not work either.
Is this an issue with this firmware version?   Any one else see this?

Are you getting the same problem with another computer...?
Try using different computer and check if you are getting the same problem or not...If yes then,I would suggest you to re-flash/upgrade the router's firmware, reset the router and re-configure it from scratch..Do not use the save config file.

  • Access restriction in Universe

    Hi All,
In our environment we have 2 domain (US and Europe) and most of the user have id created for both the domain. We have 2 identical databases one in US and other in Europe. US database holds US information and Europe holds Europe data.
In our BO environment we have set the ad groups to create new id for each user Alias i.e if the user abcd has access in both US and Europe domain BO creates 2 separate ids for each domain (bo internally creates abcd and abcd0). We have only one universe and set of reports which has connection switching based on the domain user logs into BO (access restriction at connection level). This works absolutely fine, switches database connection depending on the domain user logs in.
Now we are hearing from our users that they can access the personal reports created under Europe login in US login (this because users has abcd and abcd0). So we decided to create enterprise id and alias the users from AD group (abcd --> alias AD abcd), if we do this the change the connection swap is not happening as the BOUSER always returns abcd as user and universe restriction is only picking the default connection.
    Thanks
    Srinivas

  • Problem with access restriction

I have about 50 to 80 users under my internet connection and i used the router 2500 and make there repeater of the single connection but i want to restrict many of the user on interner and some on timely but is not possible with this version of product, what can i do house, or what software do you suggest for me to use with this to restrict the internet access on this network.
Again, i try to use switch sf100-24 becos of the numbers of the cable to use that is more than 4 as we have only 4 port on the router for ethernet but if i connect it after few second it will make all the connection saying 'unidentify network' and it will not function again what can i do to solve this problem too please!!! help me house

Hi, you might perhaps consider getting a gigabit switch in order for those devices to be able to work with access restriction.

  • Access Restrictions for Time?

I keep trying to set access restrictions for my wrt54g router for time. There is no 12 for time so I'm selecting 11:55 pm to 6am but I keep getting an error message of, "end time must be bigger then begin time." I get this no matter if I select 9pm, 10pm, etc.........
    Any ideas?

You cannot choose a time frame through midnight. You have to split it in two rules, one before midnight and one after, i.e. choose 12am to 6am and 9pm to 11:55 pm.

  • Access Restrictions - Blocked Applications does not save

Under the Access Restrictions section it is possible to Block Applications.
I enter a name for the application, the port range (from and to) and whether it is TCP, UDP or both. I then hit ADD which adds the application to the list of Blocked Applications in the box above. I then scroll down thru that box to find the App and [>>] add it to the Blocked List. I then hit SAVE SETTINGS
Upon returning to the policy and the Blocked Apps list the record I just created is nowhere to be found. Not in the Blocked List or under Applications.
    What gives ???

    Wireless-N Gigabit Router
    Model: WRT310N
    Firmware Version: v1.0.06
    All PCs run VISTA
I don't see how a HARD RESET and POWER RECYCLE creates a fix for this. All that does is reboot the existing firmware and causes me to have to reenter all the router and security settings. The documentation for the lastest firmware (version Ver.1.0.9 build 4 12/11/2009) and the previous upgrade (1.0.07 build 14) does not include references to a fix for this problem. Has this been identified before and what firmware version is the fix included in ?
I have held off performing the 1.0.9 firmware upgrade as I have no confidence that this will fix this problem.

  • Downgrading firmware on WRT54G/access restrictions

I had a WRT54G.  Access restrictions worked.  I upgraded the firmware and the access restrictions no longer worked.
So after researching, it appears the firmware I upgraded to was buggy and the access restrictions didn't work with the new firmware.  I couldn't figure out how to downgrade back to what I had.
Called Linksys and ultimately they said they would send a new router.  I asked if it would have the old firmware that my router had previously, where the access restrictions worked.  Yes, they said.
New router arrives today.  Firmware is v1.02.2, June 7, 2007.  NOT the prior firmware.  Sure enough, the access restrictions still do not work on this router either.  I don't want to spend yet another two weeks trying to resolve this with Linksys.
Question:  Is there a way to downgrade to firmware where the access restrictions actually work for WRT54G?  If so,
what version should I downgrade to?
where do I obtain it? and
can I download the firmware and then install it using the administration/upgrade firmware tab on the router (even though it is a downgrade)?
Thanks very much for any thoughts.

Thanks for the suggestion, Badboy.  Unfortunately, although I could download the firmware and successfully load it onto the router, the access restrictions in that version do not work either.
It doesn't seem as though all prior versions of firmware are on the ftp site, ftp.linksys.com.  For example, I also have a wrt54gs v. 4 (speedbooster) with the same access restriction problem.  It currently has a firmware version loaded that doesn't appear to be listed on that website.  (I couldn't download prior firmware for that version that worked.)  So, perhaps prior firmware exists for the wrt54g v. 6 that is not listed on that site also.
Does anyone know if there is another site that has a more extensive collection of prior linksys firmware?
If not, I suppose I can call linksys again, but even if they send yet another router promising the old firmware on it, I suspect the message is just going to get lost between the promise made on the phone and the guy in the warehouse filling the RMA order.
