Overriding iPhone calendar into iCal

How do I override calender synching between my iPhone and desktop Mac iCal so that the calendars on my iPhone replace those in iCal?
It seems as part of the MobileMe debacle, my desktop iCal calendars are messed up with alot of erroneous entries. Those on my iPhone (original version, sw 2.0) remain correct. When I try to sync thru iTunes, the erroneous iCal entries are added to my iPhone - and if I delete the calendar in iCal and sync, it erases that calendar on my iPhone.
I can get the calendar back by restoring from backup on my iPhone, but I can't seem to figure out how to make the iPhone data override iCal - like the good ol' days with a Palm when you could direct the hotsync conduits.
Any thoughts?

Turn off calendar sharing in settings > iCloud, you will be prompted to keep your calendars on your phone when you do so. You can then turn calendar sharing on, when you do so you will be prompted to merge your calendars.

  • Synch iPhone calendar with ical?

I have a problem synching a Calendar on iPhone with iCal on Mac (Lion 10.7.5) - no matter how many times I perform the Synch in iTunes, the Calendar in my iPhone does not appear in the iCal on my Mac
I recently tried using iCloud with my Calandars but it was a disaster experience as it took two days to synch the calendars with no good result, so I have abandoned iCloud. Synching my iPhone calendars with iCal has been a problem ever since
    Any ideas?

It appears (per the current iPhone user manual) that one has to "share" events from one's iPhone iCal to one's iCloud iCal, event by event. Do this by selecting the event you want to "share," selecting "Edit," then scroll down to "Calendars," select that and then select the calendar to which you wish to TRANSFER the event.
You may also simply select "Calendar" when viewing the event and TRANSFER it to another calendar via that quicker route.
PS:  I have not yet figured out how to enter a new event directly into my iCloud iCal via my iPhone without entering it on my iPhone iCal before I then TRANSFER it.

  • How to import calendar into iCal?

I am trying to import a calendar into iCal. Here is my AppleScript:
    set theFile to "Sample.ics"
    tell application "iCal"
    open theFile
    end tell
    tell application "System Events"
    tell process "iCal"
    tell window "Add events"
    click pop up button 1
click menu item "New Calendar" of menu 1 of pop up button 1
    click button "OK"
    end tell
    end tell
    end tell
I have specified a full path for theFile in the actual script. Here is what happens when I run it:
The iCal icon starts jumping and the script just stays running. If I hunt around I can find the "Add events" window and it is just sitting there waiting for interaction. If I click the pop up button and select New Calendar then click OK the file imports like I wanted and my script errors out saying it can't find the "Add Events" window. Clearly my script loads the file into iCal fine. Then it has problems. Here are my guesses as to what goes wrong:
    1. maybe the "Add event" window is modal and iCal won't respond to the script until the window is dealt with.
    2. maybe the pop up button is not a pop up button and is some other UI element .
    3. maybe there is an issue with focus
    4. maybe I have no clue, should stop speculating, and someone will help me.

I'm stuck too. Although the Accessibility Inspector describes the “Add events” window as belonging to iCal, the script seems not to see that window as a UI element of iCal:
    tell application "iCal"
    activate -- essential statement!
    open theFile
    end tell
tell application "System Events" to tell process "iCal"
    return UI elements
    end tell
    --> {window "iCal" of application process "iCal" of application "System Events", menu bar 1 of application process "iCal" of application "System Events"}
It doesn't even seem possible to bypass the process by using the keystroke command.

  • I am trying to download a calendar into ical and keep getting this message-Some of the events in this calendar have alerts that open files or applications.  What am I doing wrong???

I am trying to download a calendar into ical and keep getting this message-Some of the events in this calendar have alerts that open files or applications. Remove alerts or cancel
What am I doing wrong or missing??

I have this same problem in October of 2013. I am unable to import .ics files into Lion that I exported from my Snow Leopard MacBookPro without losing all of my future events (which all have alerts attached). All of the events from BEFORE today's date are successfully importing, presumably because they are no longer expected to trigger alerts via Apple Mail. After my first unsuccessful attempt, I learned that iCal was communicating with iCloud by default. I have since turned off iCloud, but I have not found a solution to the problem. Harvey

  • How to import Lotus Notes or Outlook calendar into iCal ???

Is there a way to import calendar data from either Lotus Notes or Outlook calendar into iCal ? Is there a generic data type file that I must first get the calendar file into before importing into iCal ?

The file must be .ics. I used to simply use Missing Sync to get my calendars synced up, however it's not yet supported in Leopard.
So, in order to get my office Outlook data over to Ical, I simply used the following "macro"
    http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=136194
Simply follow the instructions...it worked well for me. all my work data got transferred over.

  • Importing Now Up To Date Calendar into iCal

I have been using NUTD for ten years. It is now starting to crash often with the latest OS software. So I would like to import my entire NUTD calendar into iCal. However, I cannot figure out how to do this. I have looked at discussions on the subject, but they all seem to be several years old. Any new ideas on doing this? I have a Bed and Breakfast and need the past ten years calendar info, plus the reservation info that goes out three year from now. So I need to import 13 years worth of calendar data.

I just did a full migration from Now Up-to-Date to iCal and was successful using a tip obtained elsewhere. The key is to pass the data through Excel and Palm Desktop. Now can't export vCal yet and iCal won't import tab delimited text. However, Palm Desktop can import tab-delimted text and export vCal.
I don't think you can successfuly create multiple iCal calendars from the Now categories going through Palm Desktop; I didn't try that. To make sure it worked out, I did it using multiple export/imports doing one Now category at a time by passing it through Excel. Here's a summary of the steps:
    1. Export your date rage from Now in tab-delimited format.
    2. Open the export file in Excel, sort by category.
    3. Extract all entries for each category into separate workbooks, save each as tab-delimited text file format.
    4. Open Palm Desktop and create a new calendar for the category (e.g business, personal, special events, etc.) Save it in a temp place like your desktop.
    5. Import the text file to the new Palm Desktop calendar
    6. Export from Palm Desktop to a vCal file
    7. Create a new calendar in iCal for the category to be imported
    8. Import the vCal file into that calendar.
Repeat steps 4-8 for each Now category.
There were some anomolies I couldn't explain (like some single-day all-day events becoming two-day events in iCal), but I just cleaned those up manually.
Repeating events in the Now Calendar will become multiple single events in iCal. Also, if you have any commas in titles or notes, the process of passing through Excell wil put " " around those entries in iCal. If this bothers you, you could pass the saved Excel text files (from step 3) through a text editor (Text Wrangler works best, TextEdit should do it also) to delete the quotes if you want.

  • How to sync iPhone calendar with iCal on Mac?

When I migrated to iCloud, I lost all iCal data on my computer, but still have it on my iPhone. Any way to force iPhone calendar data onto my Mac? I have tried refreshing the calendar and turning the calendar on and off in my Mac's iCloud preferences.

Your profile indicates you are running Leopard v10.5.8.
You mac must be running Lion v10.7.2 in order to enable iCloud on your Mac.  Apple - iCloud - Learn how to set up iCloud on all your devices
If everything is up to date and you've tried turning off Calendars and turned it back on and that didn't work, go to ~/Library/Preferences
Move the com.apple.systempreferences.plist file from the Preferences folder to the Trash.
    Restart your Mac.
~ (Tilde) character represents the Home folder.
For Lion:   To find the Home folder in OS X Lion, open the Finder, hold the Option key, and choose Go > Library

  • Is there a way to import a pdf calendar into iCal?

My employer issues my calendar in pdf format. Is there a way to import this into iCal? Either directly or is there a way to automate a conversion to some format and then import?
    many thanks in advance.
    b737guru.

    Hi b737guru,
pdfs might contain visually structured graphics, but they don't necessarily contain internally structured data. Which is what you'd need for a conversion to the iCalendar format, the format that iCal's .ics files use. So I don't think you're likely to find an easy solution.
Your best bet is to try and get the data from your employer, before it is printed/formatted to a pdf file. If there are enough of you campaigning, they might consider .ics as an alternative to .pdf. Google Calendar, FaceBook and Microsoft Outlook can read .ics, which makes it fairly universal.

  • Importing Outlook calendar into iCal

I am relatively new to Apple and one of the few things that is taking the gloss off an otherwise happy experience of working in this new environment is my inability to import my Outlook (2003) Calendar from the work office into iCal on my home iMac. I would be grateful if anyone could tell me if this is possible, and how it might be done so that I do not overwrite the appointments I already have entered in iCal. Thanks.

Don't blame Apple for this. Blame Microsoft. ALL of Microsoft's products (Outlook, Windows Media Player, Microsoft Office, etc.) were created in proprietary & closed formats, designed to keep you "locked in" to Microsoft and Windows as long as possible. Microsoft makes it nearly impossible to move any of your data out of their products and into a competitor's products.
Apple, on the other hand, has designed all of their products with open standards and open formats, so your data is never "locked in" like it is with Microsoft.
In the meantime, luckily you can use the product Outlook2Mac to get your data over from Outlook's calendar to iCal.

  • Can I open a Shared Wiki Calendar into iCal??

    Hello
I am new to iCal. I am trying to find the best way to have shared calendars. The route I was going down was to create a Wiki with a calendar and try to find a way to open the calendar in iCal. Have anyone had any success with this? Or am I going down the wrong route. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. Dan

Not with Safari. an alternate browser such as iCab Mobile, with the browser ID set to something none mobile might permit that, but performance will be lacking. As currently deployed, iCloud as far as iOS devices are concerned, is design to inter-operate with specific apps, not a web browser.

  • Syncing iPhone calendar into a CSV format

This is my first time posting a question so let me begin by apologizing if I don't follow proper protocol. That said, does anyone know if iPhone/iCal can be formatted into CSV format??
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

The warning message is in regards to iTunes content and photos on your iPhone that were transferred from your PC that crashed. Certainly you included your iTunes library and all photos on your PC that crashed with your computer's backup along with all other important data?
Before syncing contacts and calendar events with an empty Outlook address book and calendar, enter one contact and one calendar event in Outlook. This will provide a merge prompt with the first sync for this data selected under the Info tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes, which you want to select.

  • I would like to combine both my macbok calendar and my iphone calendar into the same calendar. How do i do this?

how would i automatically combine my calendars on both my macbook and my iphone?

Yes, it's possible.  That's exactly how iCloud works.
First check your settings.  Make sure your phone and Mac are both signed into the same iCloud account in Settings (System Preferences)>iCloud and that contact syncing is enabled on both.  Then on your phone, go to Settings>Mail,Contacts,Calendars>Default Calendar (in the Calendars section) and select your iCloud calendar as your default.  On you Mac, open the Calendar application and go to Calendar>Preferences>General and make sure your iCloud calendar is selected in the drop-down list next to Default Calendar.
Then add a test calendar event on both your Mac and your phone, go to icloud.com from your computer and check to see if they both appear there, as well as on the other device.  If so, they are properly syncing now.  If not, let me know which one does not appear on icloud.com.

  • Import from Yahoo!/sbcglobal calendar into iCal - is it possible?

I run a PC at the office as well as a PC laptop of my own. However - my G4 is my main hub computer at home and from whence all roads lead to and from.
I am on sbcglobal (Yahoo!) for e-mail and one of the niftier things I can do is "sync" (via Intellisync software available for free from Yahoo!) my ENTIRE contacts and calendar from my office PC Outlook and export it into Yahoo!. I have determined that I can export a vCard file out of the Yahoo! contacts database and then import that into my Address Book (OK - some minor tweaks/editing needed on my part after the import) but EVERYTHING is there - very cool indeed.
Is there any way to do something similar with iCal? (presently I cannot seemingly export the Yahoo! calendar data either an iCal or vCal file). Will exporting it to a .csv (did I get that right) be of any help or just really screw things up?
advice, guidance, a helathy dose of reality, please
    thanks
