Overriding prompts in Batch Action command

I have a question about using Find and Replace in an Action.
For a bar chart with negative values, Illustrator will generate the value on the axis using a hyphen (e.g., -1, -2, -3). I would like to change the hyphens to en dashes (–1, –2, –3).
I have 150 graphs, so the easiest way to do this would be to use an batch action on all graphs in a folder. I first flatten the graph and then do a find-and-replace:
The trouble is that I get prompted at each find and replace:
Of course I can click Find, Replace All, OK, Done each time, but this essentially defeats the purpose of creating an action.
Is it possible to suppress the Find and Replace window and set the action to Replace All without prompting?

Did you try clicking here to turn off the dialog? If you set up the Find Replace first it should work.

  • Is there any other way to use a Batch Action Save as Without Using Override "Save As"

    The problem im having is, Ive made a Action which uses the save option several times though the action. When i try to run a batch action it just overrides the last file. When I check the Override Button the action does not work becuase i used save in my action in ealier steps. The action works perfect with one picture when doing it manually but it would take forever to do 1500 pictures manually. Any help would be great.
    Im trying to find a way to run the batch file and have it save as a diffrent file name each time.
    Thanks for the Help In Advance

  • Automate  and  Batch actions

    I am converting tiff files to jpeg using the Automate then Batch Actions. I select my source folder and Destination folder. The program converts and send the jpegs to the Destination folder but it is also sending a copy of every jpeg to my DESKTOP. Nothing in my Destination folder shows the desktop as a destination. I set up a destination file on my e drive and it still sends the photos to the desktop.
    any suggestions I am using CS2 Photoshop.
    Thanks
    Randy

    When you created your action you probably recorded a File > Save as... (.jpg) commanfd and specified Desktop for the test file, as Geoff noted.
    When you engage the Batch dialog, specify the Destination folder AND as unintuitive as it sounds turn on option "(x) Override action 'save as' commands." That should get you over the hump.

  • Photoshop CS3 Batch Action Delimma

    I've run into a problem recently with batching actions in CS3 to process vector files like ai or pdf.  I record the open step to set import preferences then select override action "open" commands, but the program opens the image with the name of the file used to record the action instead of taking the name of the file being processed. The result is that the new files all have the same name and just keep overwriting the last one. I'm not touching the file name when I record the action. The only way I've been able to get around this is to manually open the files, then run the rest of the action. I know in the past, recording an open step with overide action open commands has worked to batch these types of files. Is there a way to set the import preferences while keeping the source file's name when batching?

    With ai files you could record your open step as Open As>GenericEPS.
    Then try the settings in the batch as below.
    For pdf files it's more complex.
    One way is to use the Scripts>Image Processor and set your open options for pdf's
    by opening a pdf, setting the options in the dialog and click ok to open. Close that image.
    When you process your pdf's with the image processor,
    you don't need any open steps in your action because the image processor
    should use the last settings used in the open pdf dialog.
    A couple of drawbacksof the image processor:
    1. If you want to change the open settings for pdfs,
       you have to repeat opening another pdf to set the settings.
    2. If you want to save in a format other than the three in processor dialog,
       with the file naming different for each file, that could be a problem.
    A better solution for pdfs might be the PDF Processor, which you get here:

  • Why can't I do batch actions from CS4 or CS5 Bridge now when I could before?

    Something has changed in my functions for doing batch actions in Bridge.  In CS5 Bridge I try to do a simple batch action of saving a DNG file as a jpg and closing the file.  When I attempt this I get a message saying 'The command "Save" is currently not available.
    I try to do the same thing in CS4 Bridge.  I go to the Tools menu and look for Photoshop in the drop down menu but it's not there.  This is how I do batch action processing with my Windows version of CS4 Bridge.  I am confused about what has changed when I was able to do batch actions routinely in CS4 and CS5 Bridge on my Mac.

    Something has changed in my functions for doing batch actions in Bridge.  In CS5 Bridge I try to do a simple batch action of saving a DNG file as a jpg and closing the file.  When I attempt this I get a message saying 'The command "Save" is currently not available.
    Batch using tools menu from Bridge to reach Photoshop should work as expected in both CS4 and CS5. If not then there is something wrong on either your system or install.
    Go to Bridge CS5 preference and look for the section Start Up Scripts and see if there is still a Start Up Script for Photoshop CS5 present and with a checkmark in front for activation. If not try first to restart bridge holding down option key and choose refresh preferences. This should retrieve the original Start Up scripts again.
    If your command save as is not available check the action and see what the save path for that acton is. If it is a copied action from an other system changes are that it still contains the save path for the old drive and if the script can't find it it provides a warning message.
    Also check if the drive you save to has both read and write permission.

  • Batch actions applied to artboards

    I don't see that this is possible but it would be really nice to apply Batch actions to all Artboards in a file, i.e.:  pasting an object in the same place on all boards.
    My workaround is to probably just attach it to another existing symbol but in cases where I have 50 artboards, it'd be nice to just control it through someplace like: Actions > Batch > Source = Artboards

    Also with java script.
    app.executeMenuCommand('pasteInAllArtboard');
    and as that states it is a menu command...
    Edit->Paste on all Artboards
    What version are you running?

  • Batch Action through Image Processor Leaves Files Open in CS4

    I am not sure if this is a change in CS4 or something that I am doing incorrectly. But when I run Bridge CS4 < Photoshop < Image Processor (running an action that I have been running since CS2) the files do not close in photoshop after running the action. In all prior versions of PSCS#, photoshop closed the file after finishing the action. The files all save properly. But having hundreds of files opened inside of photoshop causes the scratch disk to go low and slows everything down.
    What am I doing wrong?

    I haven't experienced that problem. But a related annoying problem with batch actions in CS4 is that if I minimize Photoshop while a batch action is running, the program interface minimizes, but the images open and close on the desktop still. In prior versions of PS, I could minimize the program and the batch action would go on in the background, invisible to me, while I could do other tasks. But now, when I run a batch to convert over 1000 files, each one pops open on the desktop, in front of any other open app's windows. It then closes and the next one opens, etc. Which means my computer is unusableduring any batch command.
    Very annoying! How could the QA and beta testers have not noticed this?

  • Batch Action creating .AI files unexpectedly

    Hi,
    I am having a strange issue.  I am running a batch action that deletes some art from WMF files, and then saves them.  When I run the batch, I am prompted to save an .AI file which is named the same as the WMF files that I am processing.  This occurs every for every file, stopping the batch to prompt for saving the .AI file.
    Does anyone have any idea why this is happening?
    Thanks,
    Tom

    Which version of Illustrator are you using?
    Also, describe as detailed as possible how your action is set up and show a screenshot of your Batch process settings.

  • Photoshop CC 2014 has lost all my custom settings, all my batch actions, all my custom desktops. Can't I import them from previous PSCC, or do I have to create everything over again?

    Photoshop CC2014 has just been installed earlier today, and it won't access all of my custom settings from the previous PSCC. I constantly use Batch Actions, always work in custom workspaces, and they're all gone. I can't find an option to retrieve them from the previous version, which seems ridiculous. It will take at least a full day's work to recreate this stuff that's sitting right there in the previous version. Isn't there someway to "update" the new version with my custom batches and workspaces at least?

    how do you get to user library preferences.  can't find it in the c drive
    The terms you used, "user library" and "c drive" are from Mac and PC architectures respectively.  Read the information at the link I posted more carefully - there are different sections for Mac and PC.
    Keep in mind the AppData folder is usually hidden by Microsoft,
    Also know that Adobe hasn't updated that page to include specific locations for CC 2014, so you have to look around just a bit when you get to the deepest folder.
    As an example, here's where my preferences are on Windows 8.1:
    C:\Users\NoelC\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CC 2014

  • Photoshop CS5 - Batch actions for PDF multipage files

    Good morning.
    One of my customer bring me a pdf files composed by 147 pages.
    Before I can print the whole file I had to remove a piece of the Header (common in every page at the same location) and a piece of the bottom left footer.
    What I did:
    - open a single page, create a new action -> select the area to be deleted, delete the content, select none, select the second area to be deleted, delete the area;
    - saved the action as "MyActionWillSaveMeLOTofTime";
    - File -> Automate -> Batch -> select folder with pdf file, select action and run
    Surprise surprise, pdf is not a supported file for batch.
    So I opened every single page (147!) with no-loss resolution (210x297mm @300dpi) (every file transformed into RASTER.... LOT OF TIME) than File->Automate->Batch->Action and Opened files as target.
    This way it worked... but it takes like 2 hours to finish, and every file needed the OK confirmation to save the file.
    After that I had to open Bridge CS5, select all saved files and put together again in a pdf.
    Result:
    - 2 hours of work with PC unable to perform any different action;
    - original pdf file 3.4MB -> final pdf file 98MB
    I wonder if there is a way with Photoshop and Bridge CS5 to avoid the raster process on the pdf pages so I don't need to waste time to perform similar action, because it seems my custome have a ton of other similar files...
    Or any other software that can do that (hopefully free, I can't buy an expensive program for that feature only).

    Hi,
    1. Why dont u try it in pdf itself?
    U can just crop the required area in pdf file using crop tool so it can be applied for all the pages at a time.
    2. If u trying to remove particular area on a pdf u can place a white box on that area using pitstop tool it can be saved as actionlist like batch processing and applied for any number of pages and files.
    Making this in pdf itself won't get u more file size. Size will be as equal as ur source file.

  • Batch action quit in same spot 2x in a row

    I'm running a batch action to make jpge previews of 10,000 Tiff files.
    First time I ran it, it quit after 3000 images.  I just deleted those and tried again,
    Woke up this morning and it quit right at the same place.
    How does one resume the batch where on image # 3001? thanks.

    The script folder would have had zero files as the ones that are ticked are located in different folders and they are for inter-comunication between apps.
    Yes that was a basic script Kevin, I have now uploaded a newer version that you can select files by file type and use subfolders if required. Have also implemented Fit Image so that Landscape and Portait can be different sizes.

    Adding a watermark is not possible in Bridge but it would still be faster to do that many files in two steps as Photoshop would not be opening huge files.
    I have another script for Photoshop "Picture Processor"
    http://www.ps-scripts.com/bb/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=3409&p=17675&sid=a58cc421e8f2dad091f34a4 f0d2e7931#p17675
    This will do watermarking and unlike most it will watermark to a relative size of the document. It can overwrite the original documents so duplicating is not required.
    All in all they are just tools to help a workflow.

  • Problem setting an action command

    If I create a JButton with an icon and no text, how do I set an action command for that button?

    well i created the button and added the action
    listener inside the constructor
    JButton bOne = new JButton();
              bOne.setIcon(back);
              bOne.setActionCommand("one");
              bOne.addActionListener(this);
              add(bOne);
    then inside the actionPerformed method I have:
    String actionCommand = e.getActionCommand();
    if(actionCommand.equals("one")){
                   bOne.setIcon("c1.gif");
    and it's giving me the compiler error:
    cannot find symbol
    symbol : variable bOne
    location: class Concentration
                   bOne.setIcon("c1.gif");bOne isn't in scope. It looks to me like it's local
    to some other methodI declared it inside the constructor

  • Export a batch action/list?

    Is it possible to save a batch action to a file, and then import that action to another user's computer?
    For example, Photoshop has an action list and you can export 1 action or a set of actions, then import it to another machine very easily (using save/load). I would like to do the same thing. If it's impossible, this is a major oversight.
    Thanks,
    Chris

    Batch sequences are saved locally as SEQU files, which can be copied from one computer to another.
    To find out the exact location(s) of these files on your computer, run this from the JavaScript console:
    app.getPath("app","sequences");
    app.getPath("user","sequences");
