Oversaturated colors in ML. Can't calibrate them!

Hi!
I was so happy to upgrade my MacPro 2009 to the newest OS, but now I rally regret my decision... Colors have blown up, oversaturation is my profile now:( Red is screaming.
I've got ColorMunki Photo. Calibration is completed with wrong result. Have no idea what to do:(

You don't say how old your previous Mac was, but if it's been 5 years of more since you upgraded your hardware, there's really nothing wrong. Unless you're buying among the cheapest monitors on the market, pretty much all computer display panels are wide gamut and will make your older screens look lifeless in comparison.
That said, you could be having an issue with the ColorMunki software. As in, it needs to be updated to work correctly with Mountain Lion. Check at X-Rite's web site. We use EIZO monitors with our Mac Pros, and the ColorNavigator monitor profiling software they come with doesn't work at all in ML. This using the exact same computer and monitor, which work just fine in Snow Leopard or Lion. EIZO is expecting to release a Mountain Lion update sometime mid September.
Also, if you're referring to colors in previous images suddenly being very vivid, that's also not really an issue, depending on how you save your RGB images. For instance, if you save everything with Adobe RGB as the embedded profile, that can make a huge difference. Example: the bright, saturated reds in a given image looked perfect to you on your old monitor. Problem, the old monitor could only show you the richest red it was capable of, not the color actually possible in its color space. Now you display the image on your new monitor. Reds the old screen couldn't display pop out like they've been changed, when in reality, your new monitor is simply showing you the color that was always in the image. Closer than the old one could, anyway.

That is not a feature of iPhoto - suggest to Apple - iPhoto Menu ==> provide iPhoto feedback.
Additionally I have no idea what you are saying here

    Hi, try this...
Bootup holding CMD+r, or the Option/alt key to boot from the Restore partition & use Disk Utility from there to Repair the Disk, then Repair Permissions.
    Reboot.

Kees, the color profiles are still stored in your user library in
    ~/ColorSync/Profiles/
I can't find them back in  the /library/colorSync/Profiles.
Are you looking in the System Library folder /Library/colorSync/Profiles  at the top level of your system drive?
As you probably know, your User Library is hidden since Mac OS X Lion.
You can reveal it from the Finder's "Go" menu in the main menu bar:
    Finder > Go
Then hold down to options-key ⌥, until Library appears in the drop-down menu. Select it and open the Library.

  • I can't calibrate any color profile for my iMac's display!

I think I accidentally deleted the color profile for my iMac's display
and now it won't let me calibrate any profile! All the colors are bright and washed out.
When I go to the display>color preference panel I get an error sound whenever I click ANY color profile, and it doesn't load. When I click "calibrate" it gives me the message: "Can not calibrate the display. The factory profile for the display could not be found."
But I wasn't even using the factory profile, and it won't let me choose any other ones, either (though a whole list does show up!)
I tried repairing/verifying the profiles in the ColorSync Utility, but it didn't help.
Is there somewhere I can download the profile and install it? I'm running a white 20" Core Duo 2GHz iMac (summer of 2006), if that helps.
    Thanks!

    seenew,
I'm wondering if you would have any luck with resetting the PRAM? PRAM settings hold some of the display preferences I believe.
See: "Mac OS X: What's stored in PRAM"
If not, I am wondering if reapplying the Combo update for 10.4.7 might correct the display calibration issue or at least return it to the default?
I don't think that recreating the .plist file for displays will help.
As far as I know you cannot "download" the profile.
sorry if those suggestions don't help,

  • Can Not Calibrate the display. The factory profile for the display...

I have an apple cinema display 20" and a mac powerbook g4 (1.25 GHx PowerPC g4, 1.25 GB DDR SDRAM) with os 10.4.9. All of my software is up to is date.
I used to be able to calibrate my colorsync profiles. My computer's hard drive recently failed and I had it replaced and the system re-installed (If any of you live in NYC, I took it to tek Serve, and they know what they are doing).
Now when I try to calinbrate my monitor I get the error "Can Not Calibrate the display. The factory profile for the display could not be found." Like I said I have updated to 10.4.9 but this hasnt solved my problem. I have restarted my computer, and this has also not solved my problem.
Any help!?! Please! This is important to me as I do color work for print and I need to see colors accurately When I use my computer.

I fixed it already. There was indeed a problem in the preferences. In my case I removed the whole preferences folrder to the desktop (which forces the computer to rebuild it fresh) and it worked fine! Then one at a time 'as it was needed, I put back the preferences for other applications (mail, itunes etc). Turns out no preferences was better than whatever corrupted preference was in there causing the problem. You know what I mean. If no preferences are there the applications start over building it new automatically. So it was like a preferences restart. sorta.
Unfortunately, since I dont have applecare I had to spend 50 bucks on the phone with apple to figure this out. It's amazing how long it took them to actually pinpoint the problem. Hopefully if anyone gets that error in the future they'll find this post on google and save some bucks.

  • How can I get my printer to print in color? I can only print black and white

HP Officejet 6500 E710n-z-------windowsxp      My printer will not print anything in color.   How can Iget my printer to print in color?  I can only print in black and white.    It is a new Printer and we just installed it 2 wks ago.

I am not sure I understand ''it still will not print. ''
If you cannot see any content on pages you printed or in print preview, the cause might be margins which are set too high.
#In order to check the margins, we need to go to ''File'' > ''Page Setup''.
#Once this is done, switch to the ''Margins & Header/Footer'' tab.
#Check what's set there under ''Margins''.
The following are the default values for ''Margins'':
    '''Right''': 12.7
    '''Top''': 12.7
    '''Left''': 12.7
    '''Bottom''': 12.7
Check these values accordingly and change them if necessary.

  • Oversaturated colors on exporting from CS5.

    Hi everybody,
I'd like to try to ask to the forum something that I'm not able to understand.
I just downloaded the trial of the new flash cs5 and I was playing around to have a look at the new version.
    What I did:
    - picked a png file of a logo, previously exported from illustrator and imported in flash, then exported the whole thing in swf, then embedded in an html page and looked at it on a wide gamut monitor on safari: colors oversaturated, just like when opening, in photoshop, a picture which has no profile;
    - tryed again, this time opening the png in photoshop, assigning srgb profile and re-saving the png: again oversaturated;
    - tryed again, importing directly the illustrator file, which already was srgb: oversaturated.
Meanwhile, a friend made an flv from an mp4 of mine, which is a slide show of jpeg srgb pictures, and when he embedded it on my site, I saw again wrong colors.
I'm wondering if it depends on my wide gamut monitor, on flash, on safari, or what else.
Did anyone noticed this thing? Any hint?
Thank you, hope someone can help!

    Ok, now everything is clear.
I found some explanations about the issue. It seems that it concerns a system with OSX, Safari and a wide gamut monitor. Flash nullifies color tags in the pictures, Safari displays non-tagged pictures as they are monitor-profile tagged... and since the monitor profile is a wide gamut profile, voila, oversaturated colors.
In fact, trying to use Camino browser on the same system, everything works fine and the colors are perfect.
Now, to whom this issue should be addressed? Adobe or Apple?
Meanwhile I'll go browsing with Camino or setting the monitor in srgb mode for internet.

  • Can I calibrate the screen of new ipad

i just got an new ipad last week but i found out that the screen is greenish.(everything looks like there is a green layer on it)
i went to the apple store and borrow my friends new ipad to make sure it is really greenish.
there is no protective film on my ipad.
    so my question is,
    1) can i calibrate the screen color?
    2) if i bring my ipad to apple store, i do they check?
ps. you can not really see the greenish if you don't compare with other new ipads. but when you compare it, it's really obvious.

You can't calibrate the screen. Yes you can have the iPad checked at an Apple Store. If there is an obvious problem with the screen, your iPad will be replaced.
Have you tried rebooting the iPad?
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.

I am using photoshop to make textures for my pinball simulator. I've learned how to add color with the lasso select but I want the textures to look better so I wanted to add in more, so I was wondering if I could create a bit-map or normal maps? So I guess, the easiest way to say it is.

  • Jagged edges because of oversaturated colors with XDCAM EX

    Hi,
i want to export a movie created in after effects as XDCAM EX 1080i50. My problem is, that i get jagged edges in the output file because of the oversaturated color im using in my After Effects composition. In the picture below you can see the star with the magenta color which has the jagged edges. With yellow i dont have this problem. Is there a Matrix of supported colors in XDCAM EX or another solution for this problem?

The stars above have all been created in the same layer. Blue and Yellow looks ok but the magenta has always the jagged edges. I get sharp edges if i change the color to less magenta and more white. It has to be something with the colors. I already tried the effect of broadcast compatible colors or how it sounds but without succes.
My workflow for export / import:
    Export in after effects cs 5.5 to QT422 HQ 1920 x 1080
import in premiere cs5.5 in XDCAM EX sequence 1920 x 1080
    export to XDCAM EX 1920 x 1080 i 50
if i export in premiere to QT 422 HQ it looks ok also with the magenta.

My projects icons turned to orange in Aperture?
Ana Candano, what is your Aperture version? Earlier Aperture versions - until Aperture 3.2.4 had colored icons, Aperture 3.3 and later are gray in gray. Do you have two versions of Aperture installed?
When you post back, list your version of MacOS X and the versions of any Aperture.app you can find with Spotlight on your Mac.
Frank, the thread you pointed to, was a different question, but probably is related. It would be good to know how it has been resolved.
