Overscan with 1080p Mitsubishi 57731

I've read alot about HDTV's having overscan occur when hooked up to a computer. I have my Mac mini hooked up via the DVI input with 1080p accepted as native resolution. Overscan occurs and I'm forced to format a 1080p reduced mode to remove the overscan but it does take about an inch away from each area of the screen. My problem is the reduced mode isn't nearly as sharp the normal 1080p(I'm older and my eyes strain more now). Anyone have any experience with this brand TV(Mitusubishi 57731) or using the switch res program to remove the front porch settings etc? Also if I change the front porch settings etc will that prevent a full 1080p signal?

+I've read alot about HDTV's having overscan occur when hooked up to a computer.+
Yes, and this is especially true of DLPs and other RPTVs (rear projection TVs) because, by design, they are set to have overscan. They never actually show their true resolution on the screen. So even though your Mits has a 1080p engine in it, you never see that many pixels on the screen.
+I have my Mac mini hooked up via the DVI input with 1080p accepted as native resolution.+
Well, from reading your TVs user manual on-line, I'd say you are lucky to have gotten that far. Pages 89 and 90 do not present a very rosy picture for being able to do that. For example, page 89, under section titled "PC Viewing" it says, "Your Mitsubishi TV can display resolutions from standard VGA (640 x 480) through XGA (1024 x 768) 60-Hz refresh rates only." So that's good you got it to run from 1080p from the mini. The manual for that TV suggests that shouldn't even be possible.
+Overscan occurs and I'm forced to format a 1080p reduced mode to remove the overscan but it does take about an inch away from each area of the screen.+
As stated, in a DLP set, overscan is always present. It's just not obvious with typical source material like TV and movies because you can't tell where the edges are to begin with. A computer's output is totally different in that regard because where the edges are is made very obvious by things like the OS X menu bar and dock.
+My problem is the reduced mode isn't nearly as sharp the normal 1080p(I'm older and my eyes strain more now).+
That's because scaling is taking place and there is no longer a one-for-one relationship between pixels in video memory and pixels on screen. The 1920 x 1080 pixels are being squeezed into a reduced area and the clarity will suffer.
+Anyone have any experience with this brand TV(Mitusubishi 57731) or using the switch res program to remove the front porch settings etc?+
I own a Mits LCD 1080p TV that I have hooked to my mini and it's working nicely, out-of-the-box, and I didn't need to use SwitchRes X. But I don't own a DLP set so can't comment specifically on configuring SwitchRes X or DisplayConfigX to try and get the display working better. It may not even be possible. Certainly you cannot get true 1080p to display native with all the pixels on the screen. That just can't happen.
+Also if I change the front porch settings etc will that prevent a full 1080p signal?+
No, fiddling with porches does not alter the original format. But neither does it typically have any predictable affect on the image size displayed on a digital TV set.
Have you tried the AVS Forum? There are a couple threads there that might be of interest to you, and at least you'd be communicating with people that own the exact same or similar TV.

  • HT3209 Why can't I see an HD movie I purchased? My computer is compatible with 1080P content?

I just purchased an HD movie and it's fully downloaded, however when I try to play it, it doesn't do anything, it seems like itunes is working on it but nothing happens. My computer is compatible with 1080P Content? Can anyone help?

It worked for me by going to System Preferences, Display, and changing from "Best for Retina Display" to "Scaled" then moving the slider all of the way to the right (more space). Evidently, the native resolution for Best for Retina Display is not truly HD, but it can be adjusted to an HD standard.

  • My external 27" AOC display only runs with 1080p

My external 27" AOC display only runs with 1080p, even though my 27" iMac is capable of 2560x1440 via the attached mini-DisplayPort to DisplayPort cable. How can I get 2560x1440?
When I run recovery mode, then I get the full 2560x1440 pixels. But when I boot back to 10.9.2, then I can only choose a maximum of 1080p.

After some hours I found a solution...
But let me vent a little bit first: My MacBook Air, which I have not yet upgraded to Mavericks, is able to drive the AOC display through DisplayPort at full resolution without a problem.
Even an older lenovo Notebook with Windows 7 immediatelly used the intended resolution when hooking up the 27" screen. Windows 7 outplaying Mavericks. Oh boy...
So it seems, that Mavericks introduced some "improvement" that limitd "unknown" displays to 1080p...
By the way: Clearing PRAM didn't resolve my issue. Neither did holding down the Option key when klicking in the "Scaled" button in the screen resolution area of the system preferences for my screen.
Anyway: I found out that I can use the plist file for a DELL 27" screen, which google found for me, copy this to /System/Library/Displays/Overrides and then rename the folder and file to match the ID I got back from ioreg.
Obviously one has to be careful when mixing hardware data in this way. But since a modern screen will simply refuse to be driven with a signal that is out of spec, and since there are not too many different 27" pannels with 2560x1440 out there these days, this felt like a pretty safe thing to do... Your mileage may vary though!
Unfortunately I don't have a plist editor installed. Thus I can only look at the XML contained in the plist file. With the plist editor from Mac (-> dev tools) it should be possible to edit available resolutions directly (in hex).

  • MacBook overscan on 1080p

I recently connected my MacBook to my new asus ve246 24 inch monitor. The monitor has a 1080p max resoultion and is connected to the MacBook using a minidvi to hdmi cable. Now when I use the monitor in clamshell mode (the MacBook screen is closed and picture is only on monitor) it seems like the display is fine but when I check in the settings, the overscan button is checked. If I unchecked it, it displays a 1 inch black bar on all sides of the monitor and the picture also isn't sharp anymore. The resolution stays the same at 1080p for both with overscan and without overscan. I have overscan on right now and resolution is set to 1080p but am I watching real 1920x1080 or is is scaled up version of a lesser resolution??? I have also checked my monitor many times, it has no setting to scale or anything like that. Also my MacBook does recognize the monitor because it says ve246 on the display screen. Another thing is that when I look at a 1080p test image online, it covers the whole screen like it supposed to and doesn't go off. But for some reason the text doesn't feel as sharp to me. Does anyone know more about this?

  • What spec macbook pro is best for working with 1080p 50fps?

I have recently purchased a Panasonic X900 camcorder and record started to record in 1080p 50fps, when uploaded I notice that everything is lagging in FCPX. The spec of my macbook pro is 2.3 GHz Intel Core i7 with 8 gig of RAM any suggestions?
    Thanks

What year MBP?  Thunderbolt RAID and more RAM will help.  But you're limited to your built in GPU, which is the biggest factor.
Make proxy media and edit with that.  Switch back to original media when you're ready to export.
Right-click the Event the clips are in.  Choose "Transcode Media", then check off Create Proxy Media.
In Preferences, Playback tab, for Playback select "Use Proxy" while editing.  This point FCP X to the proxy media.  When ready to output, change it back to Use Original/Optimized Media.  Then FCP X will point to the original/optimized clips and read those for full rez output.

  • Trouble with 1080p on MacOS but no Windows

the maximum I can get out of my intel 20" iMAC with MacOS is 720p. I get some flickering at 1080p. The 59.9HZ option is greyed out and only 60HZ can be used. (incidentally this used to happen with old powermac which had an ATI 9800 and it would flicker with 60 but not 59.9 so 59.9 seems like the right choice).
In Windows, via boot camp, I am able to drive a 1080p signal just fine although apparently at 60HZ.
So, this seems like a driver issue with respect to the ATI card. Anyone else noticed this, or have any ideas?
    Thanks
    -V

Which version of the ATI card are you using? 128MB or 256MB?
Keep in mind that OS X is much more graphics intensive than Windows XP. OS X will push the limits of your graphics card sooner than Windows. Maybe that is why you are getting the flicker?

  • Sequence for FCP 7 - Confusion with 1080P

I keep trying to put my clips (1080x1920 square frame 25 FPS, progressive) into a sequence. It keeps prompting me to automatically change my sequence to "fit" the clips, so I say go ahead and do it. Then I check the sequence and it is at HDTV 1080i (16:9) 1920x1080. However, this is progressive footage, not interpolated. What gives? I can't seem to change it to 1080p. i looked in easy setup, preferences, etc. I restarted FCP and created new sequences; nothing changes.
What did I overlook? My video is from a Canon 5D, 25 FPS. The other footage (from a GF1) was sent through Compressor to make it match the Canon footage. ALl of the footage is sitting pretting in the bins, plays in the sequence, but I'm worried how this will look later. It looks OK on my HD progressive scan monitor.
Any suggestions would be appreciated, as I am reluctant to get to into this until I sort out the 1080i setting, as my footage isn't 1080i.
    Cheers,

    Thanks Ben
I ran everything throug Log and Transfer to create Pro Res 422.
Good call on the field dominance; it is set to none.
Does this mean I'm good to go? I used the Log & transfer, that part seems fine. I did not create LT clips, as I'm not familiar with the nuances of all this...at least not yet .
Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

  • DVI to HDMI overscan issue 1080p

    Hello,
I have a LCD Samsung LE46A656 FullHD and a new macbook pro late 2008.
And have the 1080p resolution sized in mac osx but on the lcd left and right a black free place.
i see this thread, and a solution for 720p, now i search one for 1080p:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=6405017
    Please help me

If you go to "System Preferences" and check "Displays" when it's connected to the LCD, is "Mirroring" selected?
Sometimes if you use a photo with a black background as your desktop background photo, an attached Monitor will appear completely black . . . unless "Mirroring" is selected.
May be your problem is harder to solve than my solution, but doesn't hurt to try.
Let me know if that solves it.

  • Authorization issue with 1080p videos

I deleted the movies Toy Story 1, 2, and 3, and upgraded them to 1080p.  Now when I try to play them on my ATV3, I get a message saying that authorization is required.  Other movies purchased with the same account work OK.  I tried deauthorizing iTunes, signing out of the iTunes store on the iMac and ATV3, but nothing has worked.  I also tried deleting one of the movies again and redownloading, which had no affect.  I sent email to apple support, and they just sent a link with instructions to do the same things I had already tried.  I read in a couple of other threads that apple was had trouble with their authorization servers, but that was back in March.
Any suggestions to resolve this issue would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi,
check that the role(s) are transported from your DEV and your QA, and that the user has the correct role(s)
Check as well in your QA transaction RSSM for your ODSs objects; it might be that by transporting the ODS, some authorizations have been applied by default.
    hope this helps...

  • Why photoshop CS6 doesn't send the print order with the Mitsubishi CK60DW?

The printer driver works because I am able to print on other applications, but that is not the case for Photoshop. Photoshop is able to print with any other printer but not with Mitsubishi's. There is no error message or anything, when I click the button for printing it works as if it would have already printed but nothing appears on the print queue list and nothing happens at all. Does anybody knows what could be the problem? The OS I'm using is Mac's Mavericks

About the only thing I can suggest is to click on "Print Settings" and see if anything looks off.
This is a screenshot taken from CS6 under Mavericks.

  • Compatibility of imovie9 with 1080p and 1080i compact digital cameras

New compact digital cameras are now appearing on the market with video labelled 1080p and 1080i. For example, Fuji F500 EXR with 1080i and Casio EX-ZR100 with unspecified 1080.
My question: is either of these formats (1080p and 1080i) compatible with iMovie9 in terms of both input and output (that is, will iMovie9 accept the clips from the camera and export a 1080p mov file)?
If the answer is "no", is there a work around?
If the answer is "yes", does 1080p have any advantage over 1080i?
Note: I am sure that this question has been asked already, but I was unable to find a definitive answer on the Discussions forum.

most tv's which support 1080i also support 720p it's basicly the same signal where 1080i just fake a higher res by making the signal interlaced

  • How to comunicate with a Mitsubishi E150 HMI through RS232

I am trying to get data from a Mitsubishi E150 HMI.
Can I do this using LabVIEW?
It comunicates through RS232C and I I only have the register addresses: register D12 for pressure and D22 for temperature

    Hello,
If you can read from the instrument through the serial port, you shouldn't have any trouble reading that data in LabVIEW.  All you need to do is configure the port in MAX (or the device manager if you are using a built in serial port) to set the baud rate, termination, etc.  It will show up in the VISA Resource Control/Constant in LabVIEW as COMx (by default), where x is the port number.  In LabVIEW, go to Help>>Finder Examples and from the folder tree, browse to Hardware Input and Output>>Serial>>Basic Serial Write and Read.vi to find an quick example of serial communication.  All port configuration can actually be done through this example in LabVIEW.  All you do is send a command to the instrument (with proper termination) and read back the response.  Please try this out and see if are able to read from your instrument.  Please post back to this forum if you have any trouble!
    Have a great day!

  • How to combine (720p 60fps) with (1080p 30fps)

    hi all
I have adobe premiere pro CS5 and a gopro hero HD2
So my question is : How can i edit one single movie coming from footages shot with different qualities, like 1080 at 30 fps and 720 at 60 fps ?, what kind of sequence should i open at first on the software?
The thing is: I can do it, there is no problem in that but as I want the best quality I want to know exactly what to do. Like if I open a sequence of 720p and 30 fps and then import footages at 720p and 60fps is it gonna turn it into 30 fps?
Other question: If my footage is a 720p, what is gonna happen when I export it at 1080? I'm gonna loose some quality right??
    thanks

Other question: If my footage is a 720p, what is gonna happen when I export it at 1080? I'm gonna loose some quality right??
Some is an understatement. Better downscale 1080 to 720. Always much better than upscaling. As to the framerate, with some 30P and some 60P, you will be better off with 30P altogether.
