Overview of all available keyboard layouts

Where do I find pictures of all keyboard layouts for the N900?

As Nokia is not able to use right image material on their web site I'm trying to find out what the actual layout of the device I order will look like.

  • Gnome 2.28 GDM Keyboard layout

    Hello,
    A few months ago I installed Arch + Gnome 2.26 and never had problems since then until I upgraded to Gnome 2.28. Now with the rewritten GDM the keyboard layout (for entering the username because I don't like select-your-user-from-the-list-thingies) is set to USA (qwerty) while the rest of my system is completely BE (standard, no variant) layout. Before the upgrade also GDM was 100% BE, but now the username is USA and when I want to enter the password it changes immediately to BE (because in the panel down I chose BE). Is there a way to also make the username respond to the BE layout?
    ==> What works in BE?
    TTY's
    password prompt of GDM
    gnome session
    terminals
    ==> What works not in BE and responds to USA layout?
    GDM username prompt
    How weird is that? My system is setup as described in the beginners guide (keyboard layout in 10-osvendor.fdi file + hal + evdev) which was system-wide until the update.
    I looked around and found some similar threads, but only complaining about keyboard variants, which is not my issue. Also on the Gnome forums, there is no-one with this problem. I checked all config files and XML files related to GDM I could found, but nothing helped.
    I noticed that with the Ubuntu Karmic Beta live CD, upon entering the keyboard layout from the boot screen, everything was BE as I want it to be. It proves to me it's all possible, but I can't find how.
    Any help would be appreciated!

    That's very interesting, thanks for the link. Sure, it's possible that way, but a few weeks ago there still was a GUI for it and now everything has to be done manually again. That sounds very much like a regression to me Anyway, that's not really the point. GDM documentation pages tell us that the system keyboard layout is used to login and that every user logging in can choose their preferred session. However, our system languages (which are different than USA) are not detected correctly and there is no option to override this in custom.conf.
    /apps/gdm/simple-greeter/recent-languages

        Set to a list of languages to be shown by default in the login window. Default value is "[]". With the default setting only the system default language is shown and the option "Other..." which pops-up a dialog box showing a full list of available languages which the user can select.
        Users are not intended to change this setting by hand. Instead GDM keeps track of any languages selected in this configuration key, and will show them in the language combo box along with the "Other..." choice. This way, commonly selected languages are easier to select.

    Has someone the answer to the questions I asked earlier:
    1. Will I still be able to update gdm via pacman -Syu after rebuilding gdm with this patch?
    2. And will there come an official Arch GDM update with this patch to solve the problem or is the only way to get it solved dealing with the patch now?

  • Keyboard layouts

    How do you show all the keyboard layouts?  It only shows 3 slightly different layouts, and they're all Qwerty variants.
    How do I get the Playbook to show more than 3 keyboard layouts?

    It matters not at all. I'll take what I can get.

  • [SOLVED] Not all Dvorak Keybourd Layouts work!

    Hi everyone,
    I hope this is the right place to ask that question.  I am using a Dvorak keyboard layout for about a year now.  However, as I am native German and I do use Emacs a lot, I adjusted the Classic Dvorak Keyboard with some additional features such as adding Umlauts to the layout, switching Control/Caps_Lock, Alt/Tab and making it easier to stroke certain sequences, like $/{, which often occur when typing maths.
    The default Dvorak layout that comes with Arch Linux is the so-called Simplified Dvorak Layout.  I am more than happy to write my own layout-file, however, it doesn't seem to work the way I tried.  Here is what I did so far:
    I found all the keyboard layouts, including the Dvorak Simplified one, in the following directory:
    /usr/share/kbd/keymaps/i386/dvorak/dvorak.map.gz
    As root:
    cp /usr/share/kbd/keymaps/i386/dvorak/dvorak.map.gz .
    gunzip dvorak.map.gz
    cp dvorak.map dvorak-prof.map
    vim dvorak-prof.map  # Here I changed stuff, e.g.flipping Control/Caps_Lock
    gzip dvorak-prof.map
    cp dvorak-prof.map.gz /usr/share/kbd/keymaps/i386/dvorak/
    I did everything as root as to make sure that the resulting files dvorak.map and dvorak.map.gz have the same reading/writing-permissions as the original dvorak.map and dvorak.map.gz.
    For testing I typed during a X-session:
    bash-3.2# setxkbmap dvorak-prof
    Error loading new keyboard description
    New interestingly, I get the same error when loading any one of the other Dvorak layouts, apart from dvorak:
    bash-3.2# setxkbmap dvorak-l
    Error loading new keyboard description
    bash-3.2# setxkbmap dvorak-r
    Error loading new keyboard description
    bash-3.2# setxkbmap ANSI-dvorak
    Error loading new keyboard description
    bash-3.2# setxkbmap dvorak
    bash-3.2#
    The last command being successful.  So, the failure of loading my modified layout file is not necessarily due to a failure in parsing the modified dvorak-prof.map, though I don't know how to check this.
    So my question is: What's wrong with dvorak-l, dvorak-r, ANSI-dvorak and dvorak-prof?
    Thanks for your help!
    Cheers,
    Thomas

    Hi Thomas,
    i am a native german too and some time ago i found the dvorak thing and was very fascinated.
    Especially when i saw the one for programmers. However, i spent one day fiddling around with
    keyboard layouts, googling about it etc.
    At least i took another Approach.
    In the file
    /usr/share/X11/xkb/symbols/de
    you can find the layout for germand dvorak, i adopted everything
    to fit my needs. But what was not possible in there was to make
    the "b" key on my keyboard act as Backspace so i called for xmodmap
    and created a .xmodmap file in my home folder.
    And while i was playing i decided to remap the escape function to the
    the caps lock key and vice versa.
    So everything i wanted was possible with that approach.
    I start it all with:
    setxkbmap -model pc105 -layout de -variant dvorak
    xmodmap ~/.xmodmap
    Here is the relevant part of the symbols/de file:
    // German Dvorak keymap by Thorsten Staerk (www.staerk.de/thorsten)
    // Have acute and grave as dead keys, tilde and circumflex alive as they are needed
    // in many programming languages.
    // to use this keymap, use a 105-key-keyboard and the command setxkbmap -model pc105 -layout dvorak -variant de
    // source: http://www-lehre.informatik.uni-osnabrueck.de/~rfreund/dvorak.php
    partial alphanumeric_keys
    xkb_symbols "dvorak" {
    include "us(dvorak)"
    name[Group1]="Germany - Dvorak";
    key <TLDE> { [ dollar, asciitilde ] };
    key <AE01> { [ ampersand, percent ] };
    key <AE02> { [ bracketleft, 7, apostrophe ] };

    key <AE08> { [ parenright, 2 ] };
    key <AE09> { [ plus, 4 ] };
    key <AE10> { [ bracketright, 6 ] };
    key <AE11> { [ exclam, 8, exclamdown ] };
    key <AE12> { [ numbersign, grave, dead_grave ] };
    key <AD01> { [ udiaeresis, Udiaeresis, apostrophe ] };
    key <AD02> { [ comma, semicolon, less ] };
    key <AD03> { [ period, colon, greater ] };
    key <AD04> { [ p, P, quotedbl ] } ;
    key <AD05> { [ y, Y, bar ] } ;
    key <AD08> { [ c, C, copyright, Cacute ] };

    key <AD10> { [ z, Z, zabovedot, Zabovedot ] };
    key <AD11> { [ question, ssharp ] };
    key <AD12> { [ slash, backslash, dead_acute ] };

    key <AC02> { [ o, O, asciicircum, Oacute ] };
    key <AC03> { [ e, E, EuroSign, eogonek ] };
    key <AC04> { [ i, I ] };
    key <AC05> { [ u, U ] };
    key <AC06> { [ h, H ] };
    key <AC07> { [ d, D ] };
    key <AC08> { [ r, R, registered ] };
    key <AC09> { [ n, N, nacute, Nacute ] };
    key <AC10> { [ s, S, sacute, Sacute] };
    key <AC11> { [ l, L, lstroke, Lstroke ] };
    key <AB01> { [ odiaeresis, Odiaeresis ] };
    key <AB02> { [ q, Q, at ] };
    key <AB06> { [ x, X ] };
    key <AB07> { [ b, B ] };
    key <AB08> { [ m, M, mu ] };

    key <BKSL> { [ minus, underscore, hyphen, diaeresis] };
    key <LSGT> { [ adiaeresis, Adiaeresis, bar ] };
    include "level3(ralt_switch)"
    And here goes my .xmodmap:
    keycode 56 = BackSpace
    keycode 9 = Caps_Lock
    keycode 66 = Escape
    keycode 27 = p P p P quotedbl
    keycode 28 = y Y y Y bar
    keycode 31 = c C c C copyright Cacute
    keycode 32 = t T t T trademark
    keycode 38 = a A a A at
    keycode 39 = o O o O asciicircum
    keycode 40 = e E e E EuroSign
    keycode 45 = r R r R registered
    keycode 52 = odiaeresis Odiaeresis Home Home Home
    keycode 53 = q Q q Q End End End
    keycode 54 = j J j J Prior Prior
    keycode 55 = k K k K Next Next
    clear Lock
    add Lock = Caps_Lock
    Some things are redundant, but i was to lazy to delete them.
    Maybe this helps you to achieve what you want.
    And i think you may have to adapt some keys to the correct
    keycode, depending on your keyboard.
    You can find the correct keycode with 'xev'.

  • Finding a keyboard Layout

    Hello,
    i've been using PC computers but I switched recetly to Mac systems. I added (via system preferences) the arabic keyboard layouts (Arabic + Arabic Qwetry). However, both layouts are different from the standard PC keyboard which confuses me when typing in arabic and makes it hard for me to type in arabic very quickly.
    so is there any place I can find some arabic keyboard layouts to be installed on Mac?
    thanks

    The problem is that it is hard to me to learn another layout because I type without looking and my keyboard has only english letters writtin on it
    If you will tell me what corrections need to be made to the Arabic Windows I can try to fix it.
    Keyboard viewer only shows me available keyboard layouts without telling me how characters are organised in each layout
    It doesn't sound like you understand what Keyboard Viewer is yet. When you have the Input Menu in front of your in System Prefs/International, find the box next to Keyboard Viewer and check it. Then select Keyboard Viewer in the "flag" menu at the top right of the Finder. A virtual keyboard will appear on your screen, and its keys will change when you change the flag in the "flag" menu.

  • Keyboard layout indicator applet freezes in GNOME

    Hi all!
    Keyboard layout indicator applet freezes in GNOME. This means that I'm not able to switch layouts by clicking on applet and applet doesn't show current keyboard layout The only way to solve this - delete applet from The Panel and place it again.
    This strange behaviour began after latest GNOME updates.
    How can I solve this "correctly"?

    Problem dissappeared with this in xorg.conf:
        Option "XkbRules"    "xorg"
        Option "XkbModel"    "pc105"
        Option "XkbLayout"    "us,ru"
        Option "XkbVariant"    ",winkeys"
        Option "XkbOptions"    "grp:alt_shift_toggle"
    Seems that GNOME doesn't like "ru(winkeys)" in "XkbLayout"

  • Unable to change keyboard layout for all users on Windows Server 2012 R2

    Hi,
    I have a requirement where I need to support national keyboard layout for Danish for all users on that machine. When I ran the powershell with script Set-WinUserLanguageList
    -LanguageList da-DK it only sets the Danish keyboard layout to the specific logged in user.However the for other users its same English(US) keyboard which is not expected.
    Please help me how to set the Danish keyboard for all users on the machine. Its Urgent!Thanks

    Hi Mike,
    Thanks for reply.
    But I need to configure everything using powershell script. Is it possible to use powershell script to setting group policy/ adding logon script ?
    These are pretty basic administration tasks and almost always quicker to accomplish with the GUI. Why do you want to use a PowerShell script?

  • My keyboard layout has changed. I no longer have an @ key.

    About an hour ago, my keyboard layout changed (but only when using firefox) so that, for example, Shift+2 no longer produces @, but rather double quotes ("). Also, pressing the [ key now produces nothing, but the next key I hit after it will produce a hat. Example, the [ key and a g will give ^g. There are other peculiarities, such as the / key now shows é, and a few others.
    Everything I check on the internet seems to be telling me the problem lies in my keyboard layout settings in Windows, and possibly having to press LeftAlt+LeftShift (or just Alt+Shift) to readjust them, or bringing up the language bar, etc. But all of my efforts to fix language indicate to me that I'm currently operating with a US keyboard layout (which is what it`s supposed to be), and again, this ONLY happens in firefox and no other programs.
    Any ideas?

    See:
    * http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/The-Language-bar-overview The Language bar (overview)
    It is possible that you have switched the keyboard layout by accident.
    * Make sure that you have the Language bar visible on the Windows Taskbar.
    * You can do that via the right-click context menu of the Taskbar: Toolbars > Language Bar.
    * Check the keyboard language (keyboard layout) setting for the application that has focus via the icon on the Language bar.
    * You need to do that while Firefox has focus because Windows remembers the keyboard layout setting per application.
    * The default keys to rotate the layout is a combination (Ctrl+Shift or Alt+Shift) that can easily be used in Firefox to activate a menu item.
    * To avoid an unintentional switch assign a specific key sequence (Alt/Ctrl+Shift+number) to select keyboard layouts and remove the key combination to rotate layouts (Alt+Shift or Ctr+Shift)

  • [8.1 pro update1] Windows KEEPS changing and reinstalling keyboard layouts regardsless of IgnoreRemoteKeyboardLayout

    Windows 8.1 is driving me nuts beyond believe once again. I have 8.1 Pro update 1 English, installed from the VLK iso from our Volume License / SPLA account. As we are a Dutch company, the Location is set to The Netherlands, as well as the date/time format.
    Therefore in my keyboard settings the language is Dutch (NL) but I set my keyboard layout to US, as below:
    As you can see there are no other languages our installed. This worked for years with Windows 7 and before with XP. Windows 8.1 however KEEPS changing my keyboard layout to plain Dutch making my keyboard unusable. The language bar in the systemtray, or whatever
    it's called in this OS, shows THREE layouts, which are actually 'selectable' and work as if they were installed. However, they are not 'really' installed, as per the screenshots above.
    This is driving me completely mad. Why on earth is Windows making descisions for me which I should be making myself? In addition, in my oppinion Windows should NEVER change somthing as trivial as a keyboard layout by itself. People don't change switch keyboard
    even when logging on to a remote system that has a different layout configured. Whoever came up with this 'automatic switching per application' idea once again had no clue of real-life usage at all.
    I've added those two languages I do NOT want to my keyboard layouts and removed them. Sure they are gone then, and as only language NLD with layout US is left, the language bar in systray is gone as well. After a few days all three are back, and my keyboard
    is producing wrong characters again.
    I've tried with regvalue HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Keyboard Layout\IgnoreRemoteKeyboardLayout set to 1, to no avail at all. It just keeps changing. This should help to prevent my keyboard when changing when I RDP to one of my servers.
    The advanced settings in Language don't help either:
    'let me set a different input language for each app window' is unticked.
    Override for default keyboard is now set to Dutch - US, like I want it. Doesn't help either.
    I cannot reproduce it on demand, settings do NOT change when connecting to my RDP server(s). They do NOT change when I open any of my used programs, being IE, Chrome, CMD.exe, notepad and a few others. It shouldn't either as I disabled the 'keep settings
    per application'.
    I have changed the keyboard shortcut from alt-shift or whatever it was to 'none'.
    How to prevent Windows 8.1 completely from changing the keyboard layout I use? Is there any way to check WHY or WHAT actually changes my keyboard?

    This might be really late to this post but I've been having this issue while playing games, particularly those which are complex enough to require Control, Alt, Shift. At first like some people here suggested
    Windows Key + Space was the cause, but even after removing all alternate layouts (for reference, I want the UK layout, but it was switching to the US Layout) it was persisting.
    This post pointed me in the right direction, go into your Language Options
    > Change Override (Advanced). At this stage I've noticed there is the Switching input methods section, look for
    Change language bar hot keys and here I fount Alt + Shift
    was being used for switching Between input languages - a key combo I'd probably hit quite often just purely by accident. You can change the key sequence to no binds.
    I haven't fully tested it, but it appears to be working for now - and I hope its an extra option for people to look at if they're running into this issue.

  • HT2435 How do I see fonts in a keyboard layout

    How do I see fonts in a keyboard layout so I know which key to use to print a non-letter character, like in Wingdings,for example.

    To add to Tom's excellent info. PopChar in its current form is unusable. At least if you're using non Unicode fonts, it is. You cannot in any way make it show you glyphs in a font that do not have Unicode values assigned to them, and that includes many Unicode fonts! As an example, here's Adobe's Caslon Pro Italic from Font Folio 11. It's a Unicode, OpenType font:
    Note the large gap of glyphs with no Unicode value assigned to them between 02C7 and 00A4. None of those will ever appear in PopChar under any setting, so you would have no idea these swash, ligature, dingbat and other glyphs even exist. Ultra Character Map will show all of them.
    This is just one of many, many Unicode fonts which contain glyphs without a Unicode value assigned to them.
    I doubt you'll see a return to a Keyboard Viewer that will show the glyphs of a chosen font, so you'll have to rely on an app like Ultra Character Map, or (ugh!) Font Book so you can see all glyphs in one font.
    Using the Character Viewer isn't a great choice. Yes, you can choose Dingbats to see all dingbats, but that's a concatenation of all dingbat glyphs. As I recall, it doesn't even tell you what font a dingbat is in when you select it. So if you have a half dozen or more such fonts open, you need to have all of them available all the time in order to be sure the one you chose is used in the document. Which means you also have to send every possible font that may include a dingbat you used to the printer to make sure they have it.

  • [SOLVED] After a crash, my languages and keyboard layouts are gone!

    So my CPU hanged, I rebooted, unfortunatelly a lot of my personal (and perhaps system) files were corrupted. All my personal GNOME settings were set to default. I had to wipe out the entire ~/.config/dconf folder in order to regain the capability to customize everything again. So all was left behind was my keyboard layout. So I went to `Regions and Languages` and... all but the system language (English) options were gone, including the layouts!
    I just reinstalled the groups gnome and gnome-extra, no to avail
    What can I do?
    edit: stupid me! The layouts were 'hidden' in the tiny window size of the thing!

  • Safari changes my keyboard layout when on password field

    Hi,
    after upgrade to Safari 5, I got really strange problem.
    I have two keyboard layout configured, U.S., which I use regulary, and Czech, to which I switch on rare occasions when I need to write something in my native language. I have configured keyboard shortcut Shift-Cmd-Space for switching between those layouts.
    Now, the problem is that whenever I enter a password field on a web page form in Safari, it immediately switches to the Czech layout and disables the U.S. one, so I even can not switch back! The keyboard shortcut does not work and the "U.S." item in the keyboard indicator menu is grey.
    This is extremely annoying. Does anyone have an idea what is causing it and how can I fix it?
    Also, I think (but I'm not sure) that I have sometimes seen this before. But now (probably after Safari 5 installation) it happens on all the passwords fields I tried (even on pages I never visited before).
    regards,
    Bob
    mid-2008 15" MacBook Pro, Snow Leopard, Safari 5, all available updates. In the Language & Text section of the preferences, I have following settings:
    Language: First English, then Czech, then the rest.
    Formats: Region: Custom (mostly czech with some tweaks)
    Input Sources: Keyboard & Character Viewer checked, Czech-QWERTY checked, English checked. Selected "Use the same one in all documents", checked Show input menu in menu bar.

    Problem solved! I have installed Keywurl some time ago (I really missed Firefox's bookmark keywords). After I upgraded to Safari 5, Keywurl said "Ooops, I'm not tested with Safari 5, disabling myself", so I did not suspected it. But out of deseperation, I tried to remove the plugin completely from the disk. And it worked! No more problems with keyboard layout in password field. Strange, but at least it works.

    [  2186.780] (WW) AllowEmptyInput is on, devices using drivers 'kbd', 'mouse' or 'vmmouse' will be disabled.
    Add this
    Section "ServerFlags"
    Option "AllowEmptyInput" "no"
    EndSection
    EditL If the above didn't help, read this http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Xor … d_settings

  • Keyboard layout keeps switching after 10.9.4 upgrade

    After the recommended upgrade to Maverick 10.9.4, all of us in my group have the problem that the keyboard layout keeps switching every time a new Word document is opened (and possibly on a number of other occasions).
    We have MacBookPros 2011, 2012, 2013, all regretting having upgraded to OsX 10.9.4. As per instructions, mine's a Retina late 2013 and got a 2.8 GhZ i7 with 8GB 1600MHz DDR3, 500GB SSD - no performance issues!
    There have been two discussion threads as far as I can see; none with a solution.
    "Fixing" the keyboard to a single one is not an option for polyglot people like us who actually need several keyboard layouts.
    I have fed back to Apple as recommended weeks ago, but to no avail so far.
    This persistent problem is driving all of us mad. Does no one on this list have any answers? Surely there's some setting somewhere that turned a perfectly well working system (10.9.3) into one that's costing us tens of minutes every single day (10.9.4)?
    Thanks in advance,
    Alexander

    There is a box that no one had mentioned...
    System Preferences---> Keyboard---> Input Source---> Uncheck the "Automatically switch to a document's input source. The input source is used until the document is closed."
    kafetzou... You may want to delete the Turkish keyboard so that the English is on top of the list. Then re-add the Turkish keyboard, this will make it under the English. Though I don't know if this will help your problem, or the box that I mentioned above.
