Overzealous podcast syncing and random reorganization

i tunes wants to sync the entire library of my podcast archives, and not just the 1(or 3 or whatever) most recent unplayed that i have designated. so when i plug my ipod into my computer i get the message that there is not enough room to copy the requested files and this message pops up repeatedly whether i click ok or cancel. my podcasts are getting dumped into my recently played folder whether or not they have been played. there is no podcast folder in my ipod, though at one point there was, but before that there wasn't.

I have the same problem (which seems to have occured in cinjinction with the 7.1.1 update). On the synhcing preferences general tab I have "sync only checked" selected. This seems to override the "sync only last three" setting on the Podcast tab when all my podcasts are checked (in which case iTunes attempts to download all of my podcasts). I believe this to be a software bug.
I can work around this by either unslecting the "sync only checked" option on the general tab (downfall is that my whole music library transfers), or uncheck all my podcasts then check only the ones I want transferred (tedious and manual).
Anybody else found a fix?

Podcasts syncing in random order

I just downloaded itunes 9 and 3.1.1 for my second gen ipod touch. Now my podcasts appear to be in random order on the touch. They are in order in itunes. Any idea on how to sort them so they play by date episode?

Just as an update, I did spend about an hour working with Apple Support and a product specialist going through this problem. We tried several things but bottom line this is a bug with the interface between iTunes and iPodTouch OS 3.1.1.
If you create a manual play list - e.g. drag and drop items onto a playlist, then you can sort and manually drag it to the iPod under iTunes Devices and the sorted list shows up on the iPod correctly. When you create a Smart Playlist - say the most recently added 25 podcasts, and manually move it to the iPod the sort stays mostly correct, but in my case the playlist on the iPod correctly showed the sort for 23 of the 25 podcast, but two older podcasts from the drag-n-drop playlist showed up on the iPod instead of the other 2 that should have been there.
Also, as soon as you use use the iTune Sync button, the list gets randomized again.
I also asked about downgrading the iPod software back to 3.1.0, but was told that there is no way to go backwards once the update is on the iPod. It only authenticates if you are trying to put on the current or new release.
So in the meantime, for me it means I won't be using my iPod Touch for any podcasts, but instead have blown the dust off my old 30Gb iPod (pre-classic), which does not have a problem with the playlist sort - but then again it doesn't use the same OS 3.1.1...

Catalog partially and randomly synced with disc. Have to find and sync A LOT. Help! :(

I am just getting started with LR4. After installation, the catalog is only partially and randomly synced with my hard drive. (Windows 7) It seems I have to find and sync way too many files. There are some files which don't appear in the catalog at all. So I uninstalled and reinstalled the program and the problem is the same. Did I miss something or do I have a corrupt program? Can I find and sync my entire pictures file at once?

Well, that's a clear indication that the files in question indeed are alreaday somewhere in your catalog; Lightroom is usually right about that. They might not be in the place you expect them to be though.
You might want to look carefully through the folder structure in Lightroom and see if there are any strange folders you don't remember creating.
One thing that might have happened during one of the imports is that instead of choosing 'add' in the import window, you had 'copy' selected. When doing that, files end up in the place defined in the right hand column of the import window. Depending on what was selected (or what was there as default), LR has created a folder e.g. with the date of the pictures as name, inside an other folder, etc.
I encountered this kind of problem myself. An example of what happened:I have my files in folders named by date, in hierarchical year-month-day structure. Using the 'Import' function, I wanted to 'add' the '2011-05-12' to my '2011-05' folder, but erroneously selected 'copy'. Due to the selection I made last time I 'copied' files on import, the folder ended up in the folder '2011-04' - which I didn't notice at first. After the import, I couldn't find the 2011-05-12 folder, and when trying to import the whole 2011 folder with all of its subfolders, it told me that there are no pictures to import as all were already in the catalog. Like in your case, only unchecking 'don't include suspected duplicates' let me see the missing files.
So try to see if you can find folders where they shouldn't be or folders with unusual names. If that's the case, remove them from the catalog, and your problems will disappear.

Why am I getting this error message every time I open iTunes? I'm giving the option of Sync or don't Sync and click sync and there are no problems. Videos randomly sync and desync

This is not a CPU usage issue I checked. Video will play fine then at random intervals De-sync and stay that way I've done things like clear the cache the everything is fine but after some time has passed lets say 10-20 minutes it then De-syncs. Is there something i can do about this on about:config? Maybe there is something wrong with the cache what are the default settings on each option in about:config relating to this. I have already tried using reset Firefox on trouble shoot still persists. So the options should be set to default maybe a bug, a setting didn't get set right in reset?

Recent crashes of certain multimedia contents (this includes Youtube videos, certain flash games and other applications) in conjunction with Firefox are most probably caused by a recent Flash update and/or a malfunctioning browser plugin such as Real Player.

I have two podcast menus and iTunes crashes when sync'ing

I have used iTunes for my podcast subscriptions for years, but suddenly after donwloading a new podcast, i now have two podcast menus i my navigation bar.
I moved the last podcast from podcasts to books hence it was an audiobook, but the menu item remains, and i no longer get the count for items i havent listned to, yet.
Furthermore, the last downloaded podcast still remains in the menuitem but without any media in it.
I have now deleted the podcast container, and restarted iTunes, but all that got me was two podcast menus where one is just empty.
Finally, iTunes crashes everytime i try to sync my podcast subscriptions, iTunes crashes
I' running Lion 1.7.2 (with server) and iTunes 10.5.3 and no updates are available in either the appStore nor software update.
Everything (except Server) is in Danish.
Anyone have an idea on what to do?

Which helped me a bit to solve it that way. Apparently iTunes thinks that the original Podcast entry in the Library is a kind of playlist, which can be deleted. The new one can't. So, I needed to resubscribe to my podcasts in the new one and delete the old (right click/control click) on the Podcast item and choose delete.
So there may be two ways to fix it. Hope this post helps out others in the future.

iPhone 4s with latest software cancels sync at random times. When I manually manage music and re-sync it it still cancels the sync half way through, but shows all songs I manually copied on the phone within iTunes. On unplugging the songs dont display.
Have already tried changing the language, doing a hard reset, updating the itunes software, unchecking all songs and only checking the songs I want synced, deleting the songs that the sync stops at from iTunes. Still doesnt work.
Any ideas? Not too bothered about the syncing part if necessary I can manually move music I just need to know how to make it display on the phone when it is not plugged in to the computer?
Dont say wipe the phone and start again thats not an option for me.

Instead of deleting I just re-imported everything over the top so iTunes has the links again. Now more songs have imported but when I get to a certain group of songs it cancels the sync.
I can see all the imported music I import on my phone but most of it is not clickable to play.
What happened originally was I cancelled a sync mid way, since then when iTunes tries to sync it always cancels at a certain point. Is there a way to effectively clear the cache of iTunes so it doesnt remember cancelling the sync before. I have tried updating iTunes and it doesnt work. Maybe if I uninstall then re-install?

Like I said all songs and podcasts start like 30 sec in them jump back to the intro then to the end then the middle. Its quite crazy.

Solution to iPod Touch Podcast Sync Problem

Like many of you, I had problems syncing my podcasts to my iPod Touch. I have the newest model with 2.1.1, and I had the same problem where (in iTunes) I would drag and drop the podcasts onto my iTouch and nothing would happen. They would not be listed as a Genre, in the Podcast section, or anywhere - but my memory would be sucked up in a proverbial iTouch black hole!
*The intermediate solution:* Create a smart playlist on your iTouch called "Podcasts" where "Podcast is true." That's the only rule you need and in that new podcasts you will see all of your invisible podcasts you copied
*Why this happens:* The podcast section on the iTouch only will show UNPLAYED podcasts, once they are played, they "vanish" but really they are just invisible (unless you have that smart playlist). This is obviously a glitch to be fixed in either the next iTouch update or iTunes update. In order to delete unwanted Podcasts, you must go into the smart play list and delete them from there.
I HOPE THIS HELPS!

I discovered that if you uncheck edit the Smart Playlist and uncheck the Live Update box, you get the option to delete podcasts. The bad news is that I could still not get the wanted podcast to load again into the regular podcast lists (and I made sure to mark it as new before I tried.)
This is a serious on-going issue for me, as podcasts seem to randomly become invisible. I downloaded three hours of a radio broadcast from this morning, each of which was a separate podcast. Hours 1 and 3 showed up just fine, but hour 2 only showed up in the smart list. I hadn't listened to any of them yet, as they were all brand new today.
What's seriously annoying is that this has clearly been an issue for some time on the Touch. My old 60 gig never had a problem with podcasts. It's enought to make me nostalgic.

How to Disable iTunes-iPhone Podcast Sync?

I recently reformatted my computer and was re-syncing my phone and had to sync it with the new library.
I have it so only unplayed episodes are synced, and recently the Podcast app or iTunes or whatever has been a total mess. It will remove the episode from the phone, but will show the removed episodes on the phone, sometimes as that I still have to listen to it. I have to manually delete it then, which gets really annoying.
This is not the big issue.
The problem is this terribleness led me to delete all of my podcasts on my phone by swiping left and removing the podcast itself, not the episodes, thinking I'd be able to resync it cleanly on my phone. Instead, when I started looking at podcasts on iTunes, I noticed it had removed all of the podcasts and, when I checked the folder that holds my podcasts all of them were gone.
So I'm done with letting iTunes manage anything regarding my podcasts. This is just stupid, and thankfully I backed up iTunes because previously I had iTunes randomly remove podcasts.
I don't know who decided this was a good idea, but they need to be fired as it's the stupidest thing I've ever seen. WHY WOULD YOU DELETE ANYTHING ON MY COMPUTER?
Anyway, how do I turn this off? I hate it and can't take it any more. I just want to manually sync from now on without automatic syncing, like I've done for years.

I think I may have found out how to do it. Turns out there's a setting in Edit -> Preferences -> Store that says, "Sync podcast subscriptions and settings."
Needless to say, this setting creates complete nightmares for people who want functioning podcasts on the iPhone without using some other app.

Podcast syncing / general syncing woes

I don't want to sync podcasts. I want to manually control what podcasts go onto my iPhone and which ones don't. I really dislike syncing and I just don't want to have to deal with it.
However, when I uncheck 'sync' under the podcasts tab of the iPhone menu, it deletes the Podcasts folder and I can no longer move any podcasts over. If I try to move them over, it moves them over as music, not as podcasts.
On my old iPod, this was never an issue. I was always able to manually update whatever I wanted. Is this not possible with the iPhone?
What's really frustrating is that I have told it never to sync music. That I will do all music syncing myself. However after I DLed two songs using the iTunes app in the iPhone, I got the issue where apps randomly shut down on me. So I had to delete them all and go for a sync. When I synced the apps, despite the fact that I told it never to sync music, it went ahead and deleted the two songs I'd DLed off of iTunes. Now they're gone for good and apparently there's no getting them back.
Is there a way just to say 'never sync anything except apps'? Or even 'never sync anything, I will always tell you what to do'?

One thing that might help.
If you want to tell the iphone what to do and not have it auto sync anything, manually manage would be the way to go.
When you connect the iphone, you will see this option near the bottom of the summary screen.

If you haven't been able to connect to the iTunes Store:
Make sure your date, time, and time zone are correct in Settings > General > Date & Time.
Note: Time Zone may list another city in your time zone.
Make sure that your iOS software is up to date by tapping Settings > General > Software Update (iOS 5 or later) or connecting your iOS device to iTunes and clicking Check for Update on your device's Summary page.
Check and verify that you're in range of a Wi-Fi router or base station. If you're on a device with cellular service, make sure that cellular data is turned on from Settings > General > Cellular.
Note: If connected to cellular data, larger items may not download. You may need to connect to Wi-Fi to download apps, videos, and podcasts.
Make sure that you have an active Internet connection. You can check the user guide for your device for help with connecting to the Internet.
