Ovi is destroying Outlook 2010 Contacts categories

Just bought a Nokia C2-02 and am running Ovi suite 3.1.1.90 and Outlook 2010 on Windows 7 (connecting via USB lead). I'm having problems getting the sync to function properly between the three of them. After several frustraing attempts and loss of data, I decided to start over from scratch — I deleted all contacts from the phone and from Ovi suite and backed up my Outlook contacts in a separate file. Then I sync-ed with Ovi suite with the phone connected. I have about 1,200 contacts in Outlook but unfortunatley the C2-02 only holds 1,000 contacts (wish Nokia could have mentioned that in all the bumf I read through about it on their website before purchasing!). They sync-ed, but stopped at 1,000 (alphabetically up to Ss). Since then, it's been sync-ed a couple of times, as I experimented with the Calendar feature. On the last sync, Ovi has destroyed loads of my Outlook contacts data. The Outlook contacts all have detailed categories assigned to them in Outlook. Ovi has wiped the categories from the Outlook contacts! Re-assigning them would take hours in Outlook. Luckily, I backed up the Outlook file, but now I have this problem... how can I prevent Ovi from damaging my data again?
I don't ever want either Ovi or the Phone to update my Outlook data in any way. I just want to be able to sync my contacts and calendar appointments to the phone via ovi.
Any ideas about where I'm going wrong?
Many thanks

It could be that the limitations of the phone are the reason for your problems. How many categories do you have and how many contacts are assigned into those? The sync engine in Nokia Ovi Suite turns the Outlook categories into contact groups and Series 40 devices (like C2-02) can have 40 contacts groups and 100 contacts in a single group. If these limits are exceeded, sync results are rather unpredictable and some data is lost.
Since you cannot have all your contacts synced to your phone, you must decide which contacts you want to sync. Once you have made the decision, create another contacts folder on Outlook and split your contacts into two groups: the ones that are to be synced and the ones that are not. Once you have done this, go to Tools --> Options --> Contacts on Nokia Ovi Suite and choose the Outlook folder you want to sync with. Now you should be able to sync the selected contacts to your phone without further issues and data loss.

Tommi

    Hi to all.
I have an iPhone 5 and I want to import my Outlook 2010 contacts (about 500).
With iTunes 11 I wasn't able to find how to do!
Do you have a 'free' solution?
    Thanks

  • How to sync Outlook 2010 Contact Groups to my iPad and iPhone

I am trying to figure out how to sync my Outlook 2010 contact groups to my iPad and iPhone.  Also how do you manage the groups once on the device?  Seems they can only be selected and not edited.  I can get my Good contact group and my Windows Contacts contact group to sync but not my Outlook 2010 groups.  Any ideas?

Mac solution.  No idea if works on PC:
    Work Around:
    On your mac:
    1.  Open a new email
    2.  Insert name of an existing group into one of the "To" fields as usual.
    3.  Highlight all the resulting names in the "To" entry
[Highlight first name, and while holding shift, highlight last name and all will highlight[]
    4. Copy (Command C) the highlighted emails
    5. Paste (Command V) nto a pages document
    6. Remove the name and anything else preceeding the first < and also the first < of only the first entry whixh will look like this:
         [email protected]>,
    7. Remove the > of the last email which will look like this:
         , Jane Doe <[email protected]
    8. Copy the entire altered list from the pages document
9, Go to Contact Book and click + to add a new entry
10.. Name the entry (XXX Group for iPad) or whatever you wish to call it
    11.  Paste all the copied altered list into any one of the email entry spaces
    12.  Click on "Done"
    13.  Create new email On iPad and click on + in any one of the "To" lines and search for "XXX Group for iPad"  You cannot just key in XXX Group for iPad!!!!!!!, you must use + contact search.
    14.  Enter the selected iPad contact group into the "To" line.
    15.  All the entries will now appear in the "To" line and you are good to go.
Adding or deleting email addresses from the iPad group:
Easiest:  Alter the original mac group in the usual way and repeat steps 1-14 above.  It seems impossible to edit within the emai line of the iPad contact entry.
    Rediculously simple once figured out.
Happy emailling, but please send Bcc so that you don't spread your groups' email addresses all over the internet for spam, viruses, and other unwanted emails.  Be considerate and ask your recipients to notifiy you if they wish to be deleted from the lists you compose.

  • Outlook 2010 contacts not showing phone number in Lync 2013 client

    Hi,
We have Lync 2013 with Exchange 2010. Recently we started upgrading Lync clients from 2010 to 2013.
A few users started reporting that their local Outlook contacts does not show phone numbers in Lync 2013 (working with 2010)
I have installed the august patch which should solve this issue
981751 - Lync 2013 does not display telephone number of an Outlook 2010 contact in the contact card
Any idea where to look next?

    Hi Tobias Borgen Nielsen,
Lync expects all the phone numbers to be in the E.164 format, meaning they should be +1-111-11111111 etc. If they’re not like this, you will have to normalize them if you want Lync
    to publish them.

  • My outlook 2010 Contact Groups are not visible in iTunes; only syncs main Outlook Contact Folder, others not synching

I have an iPhone (running the latest device software) and have Outlook 2010 for PC on my desktop.  I have several Outlook 2010 Contact Folders/Groups but when I try to sync with my iPhone I only have the option to sync all of my contacts.
When I sync this -- the only Outlook folder/group that is synced is my main 'Contacts' folder/group.  All the rest of my folders/groups are not being transferred to my iPhone.  I've had this issue for a few months now -- and though I like the iPhone, my old Blackberry nev er presented this problem when it came to the simple base function of syncing.  Appreciate your help -- as I am out of answers.  Thanks.

  • IOS7 in iPhone4S cannont sync outlook 2010 contacts properly

For several years I've always been syncing my outlook 2010 contacts through iTunes to iPhone4S (iOS5) and everything has been going well.  However, recently after I updated to iOS7 and did the same sync thing as before, I found 25~30% of my contacts addresses has gone.  The only thing left in those addresses is country name like "US" or "CN".
I also found when I deleted the country names, the corrent addresses just popped out.  This looks like a bug but I hope this can be solved quickly because I have over 1500 contacts in my phone and I do not want to fix them one by one.
    I wanna ask following questions.
    (1) Has anybody encountered the same problem and whether there is a way to fix it without many trouble?
    (2) Is this an iTunes problem or iOS7 problem?  Can Apple fix it ASAP (if any guy of Apple is looking at this question)?
    (3) How come the problem didn't exist in iOS5 but now in iOS7?
Finally, with all respect, I don't want to discourage Apple but I felt the company of nowadays is different from the one when that genius was still working.  My experience with the iOS7's contacts is a very bad one while mine with iOS5's is good.

Sync problem solved by iOS 7.1.

  • Sync Outlook 2010' Contacts with iTunes

How can I define on iTunes settings, that My Outlook 2010 Contacts, will change the Contacts details on iTunes( and of course my iPhone 4 ) ?
    And vice versa ?

    * Outlook 2010 calendar
    * music
    from Macbook:
    * contacts
    OR

  • Cannot sync ipad with Outlook 2010 contacts. help

I called techsupport when I was unable to sync my Outlook 2010 contacts with my Ipad2. The techie told me I could only sync from earlier versions of Outlook (seems kinda dumb).  She said I could sync from my gmail contacts but when I tried this gmail told me "25% of the content in your content will change on your computer". Ideas?

    The iPad manual says :
You can sync contacts with applications such as Mac OS X Address Book, Yahoo! Address Book, and Google Contacts on a Mac, or with Yahoo! Address Book, Google Contacts, Windows Address Book (Microsoft Outlook Express), Windows Vista Contacts, or Microsoft Outlook 2003, 2007, or 2010 on a PC. (On a Mac, you can sync contacts with multiple applications. On a PC, you can sync contacts with only one application at a time.)
So you should be able to sync contacts from Outlook 2010.  I don't think Outlook 2010 was supported on the original iPad until iOS 4.2+ was installed, but the iOS on the iPad 2 has (I think) always been high enough.
What happens when you try ?

  • Help! iCloud deleted my Outlook 2010 Contacts!

I activated my iCloud account to back up my PHOTOS ONLY.  iCloud took my photos AND my Outlook 2010 contacts (in iCloud) but deleted them from my Windows 7 PC and I can't get them back!  My .pst file contents got wiped out.  Since I didn't check off the contacts box, there's no restore option on iCloud.  And Copy ALL + Export contacts only downloads the first one.  I have over 3000 contacts and will not download one by one.
    HELP PLEASE!!!

Honest to gosh...I swear iCloud is a code name for a virus Apple has unleashed on Outlook.
All of my contacts in Outlook 2010 are gone. They simply aren't there any longer since whatever happened when I put iCloud on my Windows 7 system.
When I open Outlook, on the left of that window are the various selectable views...i.e. Mail, Calendar, Contacts etc. When I select Contacts, I have two options. I can either select  "My Contacts" (which is Outlooks contacts....and that's the one that is EMPTY) or I can select iCloud contacts. The iCloud contacts is where I see my contacts.
Why did iCloud "suck" them all out of Outlook? Why did iCloud then delete them from Outlook? ....and the $99 question is how do I get them back to My Contacts in Outlook.
Look folks....DO NOT (repeat) DO NOT ever trust anyt software application from any manufacturer or service provider that has the word "cloud" attached. If you haven't already lost data to a cloud provider...you will...period.
Why wasn't I given warning that Apple was about to delete all of my contacts from my local computer, hard drive and Outlook?  Am I missing something here?
Anyway...can anyone help me understand what I need to do to get the Contacts back from iCloud. That's horrible people. People are people...and sooner or later someone is going to lose your data...or worse ..steal your data.
    I'm done...any help appreciated.

  • E71x, Ovi Suite 3.0.0, and Outlook 2010 Contact Sy...

I was unsure whether to post this here, or in the E-Series Forums - I believe this is primarily an Ovi issue, though.
I've had this e71x for about four months now. In all that time, I still have yet to find a lasting solution to my contact sync problems. It's always been something - device recognition, drivers, software updates... just name it.
When Ovi 3.0. was released, I thought, 'Maybe this update will resolve the problems, finally'. Well, It did - for maybe two syncs. Then we were back to errors. Specifically, error code '8004fd02' (see attachment).
That's what I see every time I try to contact sync. It seems to be a problem with the online Ovi, because every time I sync via the Suite, then check Ovi.com, I have a stack of seemingly duplicated contacts. And I don't mean the same person, listed a couple times, with slightly varying detail labels: I mean the exact same entry, repeated half a dozen times, but only in Ovi.com. The only pattern concerning which ones get duplicated, as far as I can tell, is a recent update. Everywhere else my address book is, by and large, updated accurately, although Ovi and Outlook do seem to occasionally diagree on semantics.
That's about the gist of it, at the moment *crosses fingers*. I just need to straighten that out so I don't have a dozen or more extra contacts to delete online and on my phone each sync. The Suite is consistently recognizing my phone though, so that's progress...
    Specs
    Win 7 Pro x64
    Outlook 2010 32-bit
    Ovi Suite v. 3.0.0.284
    e71x software v. 03.28
    Thank You.
P.S. I don't need to hear for the umpteenth time about 'unplugging and reattaching the phone', or 'checking for software updates', or 'making sure I have the drivers installed'. I've had plenty of time to check the basics by now -
